The Penn State child sex abuse scandal broke in 2011 at Pennsylvania State University, as a result of longtime former university football assistant coach Jerry Sandusky's sexual assault of at least eight underage boys on or near university property, and alleged actions by some university officials to cover up the incidents or to enable more.

More from about Louis Freeh, missing information from Freeh report, CYS, Gary Schultz, etc:
A letter to the editor. If you accept the scathing conclusions drawn by Louis Freeh in his July 2012 report, then you believe that Joe Paterno, Tim Curley, Graham Spanier, and Gary Schultz knew that Jerry Sandusky was a pedophile since at least 1998
Curious. Why wouldn't the Freeh report include the names of TheSecondMile's board members that Gary Schultz researched in 2001?
Contrary to the Freeh report’s unsupported assertions, testimony confirms that Joe Paterno acted quickly. He encouraged Mr. McQueary for doing the right thing by reporting the information. He appropriately and promptly conveyed the information — the very next day — to Mr. Curley, the University Athletic Director responsible for all Penn State sports programs and coaches, and/orp Gary Schultz, the Senior Vice President who oversaw the University Police Department. Joe Paterno, after learning the details of Sandusky’s crimes, would say before his death that, with the benefit of hindsight, he deeply regretted that he did not do more in 2001, and that if McQueary had told him he saw Sandusky raping a young boy, “We would have gone to the police right then and there, no questions asked. The reality, however, is that Joe Paterno did not appreciate the gravity of the 2001 incident and missed the red flags of child molestation. To Paterno, what McQueary was ineptly suggesting must have all seemed like a ...

Graham Spanier, Former Penn State president, arraigned in connection with Sandusky abuse scandal. Defense attorney Elizabeth Ainslie told reporters her client is "not guilty, absolutely" and disputed prosecutors' claims Spanier conspired with university athletic director Tim Curley and vice president Gary Schultz. Curley, the athletic director on leave until the final year of his contract expires, and Schultz, now retired, await trial in January on charges of failure to report suspected abuse and perjury. Like Spanier, they deny the allegations. Sandusky, 68, vigorously contested the charges but was convicted in June of 45 counts of abuse of boys, including violent sexual attacks inside campus facilities. He was sentenced last month to 30 to 60 years in prison. Spanier's lawyers put out a statement last week that accused Gov. Tom Corbett, who was attorney general when the investigation began, of orchestrating the charges to divert attention from questions about why it took three years to bring charges aga ...

Update on sexual predator Sandusky. HARRISBURG - Two Penn State administrators were arraigned Friday on new accusations they hushed up child sexual abuse allegations against former assistant football coach Jerry Sandusky. Bail was set at $50,000.

I am surprised that this is news on Oct. 16, 2012: Penn St. won't renew contract of accused AD Curley COLLEGE, Pa. (AP) — Penn State will not renew the contract of athletic director Tim Curley, who has been on leave since being charged last year with perjury and failing to report a child sex abuse allegation against Jerry Sandusky. University spokesman Dave La Torre says in a statement that the school has notified Curley his contract would not renewed when it expires in June. La Torre declined further comment Tuesday, citing a personnel issue. Sandusky, the former assistant football coach, is serving a minimum 30-year sentence. Curley and retired vice president Gary Schultz are scheduled to stand trial in January in Harrisburg on the perjury and failure to report charges. Both men have denied the allegations.

Holly Swanson: The Problem with Paterno-Blame by Holly Swanson on August 23, 2012 7:18 AM This is not the column I wanted to write. I talked myself out of it several times, but kept coming back to it because it’s that important. I will likely gain no friends by writing it, but I'm going to say it anyway. Joe Paterno is not the bad guy. I’ve had this opinion since November, but then I read the Freeh report. Or, rather, I read the summary of the Freeh report. It horrified me. I couldn't believe that Penn State leaders like Graham Spanier, Tim Curley, Gary Schultz and Paterno deliberately created a cover-up to protect Jerry Sandusky. But the evidence was apparently there. The Freeh summary said Paterno even knew about the 1998 shower incident and followed the investigation closely, but took no action. The full Freeh report is a time-consuming read at 267 pages. Since my kids demanded my attention, I had to wait several hours before I could go through the report in its entirety. If you haven’t read my c ...
Judge agrees no feasible evidence in Freeh report presented... Could sanctions, Paterno Legacy be regained? Two Penn State trustees who attended the news conference today called by former university President Graham Spanier's attorneys to respond to an internal investigation into the handling of the Jerry Sandusky child sexual abuse scandal found they had something in common with Spanier. None of them are ready to accept the findings by former FBI director Louis Freeh that insisted Spanier, former football coach Joe Paterno, athletic director on leave Tim Curley and former vice president Gary Schultz covered up a report of a child molestation to protect the university's reputation. Recently elected trustee Anthony Lubrano said following the news conference called by attorney Timothy in Philadelphia, "I have said that the conclusions reached by Louis Freeh are based on a very small number of unspecified emails and not in evidence, so I don't agree with his conclusions.” Today we heard from Judge Lewis an ...

This will proably stir up some good conversation and comments: In MY OPINION I feel that the sanctions against Penn State are a little overboard, this is why. The kids that are on the Penn State football team now are the ones being penalized along with all of those who played that had there wins vacated. They did nothing wrong. This is not an issue with the football program, its a institutional and moral issue. They did not break any rules pretaining to the eligibility of the players or any recruiting violations, none of what happened helped them win any games or gain any recruits. The people that need to be punished are, Jerry Sandusky, he will be prison for a very very long time, Joe Paterno, he is dead, Graham Spainer President of college at that time, Gary Schultz, VP at that time, and Tim Curly, AD at that time, all of these guys are the ones responsable for what happened not the players on previous teams or the current players. This is just a Knee jerk reaction to a very bad situation. So maybe they ...
In defense of Joe Paterno By David C. Harrison Louis Freeh's report on Penn State's response to Jerry Sandusky's crimes against children has now led to serious NCAA sanctions and the removal of a monument to coach Joe Paterno. The report alleges a cover-up by the quartet of former university president Graham B. Spanier, vice president Gary Schultz, Athletic Director Tim Curley, and Paterno. But the report itself shows the key decisions were made by only three of them. There is almost no evidence that they consulted substantially with Paterno. The report first considers the 1998 accusations that Sandusky showered with and molested a boy involved in his charity, the Second Mile. Authorities ultimately did not pursue the case, partly because the investigation was mishandled. But nothing in the report shows Paterno was in any way involved in the investigation or that he attempted to influence it. The only mention of the coach in this regard are two e-mails from Curley: "I have touched base with the coach. Kee ...
I in no way condone the actions of Jerry Sandusky, Joe Paterno, Graham Spanier, Tim Curley, or Gary Schultz, but I must admit that I do not understand why all the sanctions are being made against PSU. Everyone that is guilty of anything has either died, been prosecuted, or is facing trial. Nobody currently at PSU is guilty of any crime and they have also not breached any NCAA policies. Can anyone explain to me how harming the futures of their current football players makes this situation any better?
Moreover, the culture the presidents attacked at Penn State no longer exists. What is left of Penn State is not a combatant. Former President Graham Spanier has been fired and disgraced. Former vice president Gary Schultz and athletic director Tim Curley will be on trial for perjury. Joe Paterno's memory has been stained, a scar bandaged in chain-link fencing where his statue once stood. The university will be in hock for millions in liability payments to the victims abused on its campus and because of its failure to see what is in plain view in hindsight. It remains possible that the Freeh report didn't come down from Mount Sinai on stone tablets. The NCAA famously doesn't have subpoena power, yet it acted before the three central figures in the Penn State case who are still living have the opportunity to defend themselves -- and speak publicly -- in court. The Paterno family maintains that the whole story has not emerged. Emmert and the presidents didn't care to wait. Let's hope that their impatience do ...
From Dowd's Column today. This is how you do evil; "But Freeh learned the sulfurous truth: that it was Paterno who persuaded Graham Spanier, who was the university president, Gary Schultz, a vice president, and Tim Curley, the athletic director, not to report Sandusky to state authorities. Eager to protect the brand and their cash cow, they decided to rationalize. Euphemistically, they said they wanted to do the “humane” thing; so they warned Sandusky to stop bringing children onto campus. As far as the noble coach was concerned, Sandusky could simply switch the venue of his child rapes."
If the NCAA passes down the "death penalty" to the football team, then they are the ones that are shifting the focus to football. If we want true justice in this situation, the only ones affected by judgement (aside from Jerry Sandusky) should be Joe Paterno, Tim Curley, Gary Schultz, and Graham Spa...
Paterno/PSU: AD Tim Curley and VP Gary Schultz, both charged with lying to Grand Jury better hope King of the Road, Bobby Bowden is right that what Paterno and these PSU guys did was a terrible mistake and not a crime, and so, they only lied about a terrible mistake and not about concealing a crime in failing to report Sandusky. Actually, just lying to a Grand Jury is a crime. The Freeh report with 430 witnesses, 3.5 million emails and 267 pages (not as lengthy as Affordable Care Act) clearly states that in 1998, Joe P was aware and monitored the allegations by a woman complaining her son had showered with Sandusky, yet when asked in Jan 2011, before a Grand Jury, of knowledge of any prior incidents (before 2001 when Coaching assistant Mike McQuery informed him of Sandusky showering with young boy) regarding Sandusky, Joe P said no such knowledge. Also, report says Joe P, Curley, Schultz and Spanier concealed and conspired to protect Sandusky to avoid damaging school's image (callous and shocking beha ...
Sexism played role in Penn St. horror Updated Jul 13, 2012 5:08 AM ET By Jason Whitlock They want us to believe Joe Paterno and his title-heavy minions — university President Graham Spanier, athletic director Tim Curley and senior vice president Gary Schultz — didn’t fully grasp the depravity of Jerry Sandusky’s perversion. They, Paterno’s remaining apologists, want us to believe JoePa’s and Penn State’s sin had more to do with naivete than vanity. “The idea that any sane, responsible adult would knowingly cover up for a child predator is impossible to accept,” the Paterno family said in a statement. “The far more realistic conclusion is that many people didn’t fully understand what was happening and underestimated or misinterpreted events. Sandusky was a great deceiver. He fooled everyone — law enforcement, his family, coaches, players, neighbors, University officials and everyone at Second Mile.” They’re delusional and think we’re stupid. The Four Horsemen of Penn State’s ...
Anything new in this department? Coach is anxious to know where it stands. -- Penn State athletic director Tim Curley's e-mail to vice president Gary Schultz at 2:21 p.m. on May 13, 1998.
Pennsylvania Gov. Tom Corbett blew up at a reporter who questioned his handling of the criminal probe into Former Penn State football assistant Jerry Sandusky as an investigation revealed Thursday that top officials at the university had “total and consistent disregard” for Sandusky’s victims. Gov Corbett stated - as Attorney General of Pennsylvania- "We do not hold up investigations for anything," . . . hm . . . Coach Joe Paterno was a liar . . . athletic director Tim Curley is a liar. . . . Former Penn State vice president Gary Schultz is a liar . . . I would encourage Judge Freeh to continue his investigation . . . . for there is evidence to suggest Gov. Tom Corbett is also liar
The Freeh report is out with few surprises. - They knew of the incidents. - They refused to thoroughly investigate. - They DIDNT report according to the law. - They didnt want to KNOW!! - They buried it TO PROTECT THE Penn State brand (including the football program). Guilty: Joe Paterno, Graham Spanier, Gary Schultz, Tim Curly While a proponent of smaller government and less governmental regulation and intervention, here is a GRAND Case for needed and immediate governess. Paterno is dead. The other 3 are of no phyiscal threat to society and DONT need jail time, IMO, (allthough there most definately will be costly governmental expense prosecuting them). So how do we penalize these people? EZ - where it hurts the MOST!!! Strip them of ALL Retirement income and Pension and levy a HUGE FINE to boot! We need statutes to strip these type of offenders of ALL RETIREMENT benefits. The only possible conclusion is: Those 4 put Penn State University, the Football Program (and all PSU Athletics) and themselves ...
The meeting supposedly took place in 2001 in response to the now infamous shower incident reported by Mike McQueary. As we learned from CNN, Penn State's trio (VP Gary Schultz, President Graham Spanier, and athletic director Tim Curley) had initially devised a three-pronged approach to dealing with.
Sandusky saga not over. More details of emails between PSU Prez Graham Spanier, AD Tim Curley, and VP Gary Schultz on News at 10.
The Three Stooges known as Graham Spanier, Tim Curley and Gary Schultz should be in the jail cell next to Jerry Sandusky for their stupidity and selfishness
"vice president Gary Schultz, athletic director Tim Curley, and President Graham Spanier had initially settled on a plan in which they would speak with "the subject" -- Sandusky -- as well as his Second Mile charity and the Department of Welfare." Later, after speaking to Joe [Paterno] they decided it would be better for all parties to speak only to Sandusky and try to get him help on their own. Spanier does mention in an email that while he agrees with the plan, that they are leaving themselves open to criminal charges by covering this up. It appears the truth is coming out. I'm sure JOPA had nothing to do with any of this... SMH...
The article below is a little unclear in spots, and therefore can be open to different interpretations, but Tim Curley writes in an e-mail that after talking to Joe Paterno he is not comfortable with taking the next steps they agreed upon. He says that he is not comfortable talking to everyone but the person (seemingly Sandusky) involved. The question is, if you are talking to everyone but Sandusky who would you be talking to? One readily apparent answer would be the police and/or child services. This seems to be more clear when Graham Spanier, seemingly writing to Curley, says that he is supportive, but thinks they might be vulnerable if it is found out that they didn't report the incident. So it seems as if when Paterno discussed the situation with Curley they agreed to report it, but then Curley and Spanier chose a different route, knowing that there would most likely be problems when if it was discovered that they didn't report it. It also seems clear that Gary Schultz wanted to report it.
Embarassing and disgusting that Graham Spanier, Tim Curley, Gary Schultz and Joe Paterno all knew and did nothing!
Congratulations to Alba-Golden head coach Gary Schultz, who was just informed that he's the 2011 DCTF Class 2A Coach of the Year!
Hooray for a little justice lately. The Jerry Sandusky Affair. Shame on the following besides Sandusky himself: Dottie Sandusky, Wife and Most Disgusting One (Involved or Not). Justice has been served on Sandusky. It's a shame Joe Pa isn't around to see it. I am disappointed in the way the Penn Satae handled the whole matter. From the time they were given the information about Sandusky to the point that Jo Pa was fired. It is a blemish on the university that will take a long time to heal. I think it is time for the attorney general to bring perjury charges against Tim Curley, Graham Spanier and Gary Schultz. Jo Pa rest in peace!
