"Yeah, but do you trust the Freeh report?" - a thing I actually just heard
Freeh Report (just like the FIFA case) has been widely panned. Truth is Paterno had to be on a plane right after McQ mtg
Fun fact: The Freeh report basically placed the blame on football culture.
Update: family releases a statement saying the NCAA wrongly accepted the report as final:
Impossible to read the Report and not agree completely with the family appeal. This will ruin Freeh.

Just read your report, but have to disagree with the premise that the Freeh Report was an "independent report"

Ms Young needs some 'schooling...the Report most def was NOT Independent.

Freeh’s Directive & Procedures • What were the objectives of the Freeh report and what qualifications did/does the Freeh group have concerning University governance? • Why were the errors, inconsistencies, content & context incorporated in the report ignored? The following column is written and submitted by P. Woodward. Please feel free to post questions or comments: It has been 15 months since the tragedy and nightmare of the Jerry Sandusky child abuse scandal devastated Penn State University and everyone associated with the school. It is even more unfortunate that after everything that has transpired since the news of the shocking series of events broke across the nation, that we are still involved in legal actions and the monumental denials from the family of Joe Paterno about his involvement in the cover-up of the Sandusky case. The cover-up was the decision was made to preserve the "Penn State Brand", its lucrative football program, which, prior to the scandal was bringing in approximately $51 million a year. The interesting aspect of all of these happenings is that the school, the administration, the Athletic Director Dr. David Joyner, Bill O'Brien and his coaching staff and the players made tremendous strides in not only recovering from the disaster but ...
My winter storm forecast verification/mea culpa is coming later today, but for now we're looking to see highs in the mid 40s today followed by some rain/snow showers in Philly/north tonight as a slug of moisture from the storm stalled offshore passes through. Some spots could pick up a light accumulation from that--more likely north of the city. We'll stay on the cooler side tomorrow, but look for more spring-like weather beginning this weekend and into early next week.

Bob Costas has joined the rising ranks of the backtrackers from his earlier and premature rush to judgement on Penn State coach Joe Paterno. Costas completely called into question the accuracy and fairness of the Freeh Report and lamented its egregious lack of clear, factual evidence and "debatable" conclusions. Said Costas on the Kevin Slaten radio show: "The Freeh report is an indictment. Anyone indicted is allowed their day in court. Joe Paterno will never have his day in court. Fair-minded people should conclude there is doubt here and the other side should be heard." Gee. Ya think, Bob? This is why we alum continue to fight vigorously and without let up for truth and justice for Joe, however long it takes.

Last year Bob Costas came out and bloviated about the shortcomings of Penn State and Joe Paterno. Turns out he never read the Freeh report. Now, he has, and he has completely changed his tune...Funny, I haven't seen the corrupt ESPN reporting any of this. Listen to the interview beginning at the 10:50 mark.
Very thankful for birthday wishes from, friends, former students and family.
"people are so repulsed by what sandusky did and so startled that somebody somehow didn't observe it, figure it out, and stop him . . .that they think that anything short of a blanket condemnation of everybody there somehow translates into you being insufficiently concerned about the victims, and insufficiently outraged by sandusky's behavior. so no shades of gray, and no nuance in terms of culpability is permitted . . . the only way to express your righteous indignation is to say *** them all'. and that may be understandable, but it may not be fair." - Bob Costas. Bob Costas yesterday finally admitting he not only didn't read the Freeh report but had all his info fed to him from a producer. In response to another discussion on the PSAA candidate discussion site, I responded to another member with this on the subject of continued changes in the legislature: Jeff, as I am sure you also would like to keep discussions civil, the "no clue" allegation above is unwarranted. With a history of over 20 years as a board member-10 as Board chair working in a political environment my experience is deep. Additionally, having served as a registered lobbyist in the state legislature, my insight into the legislative process and motivation is also well founded. The relevance of the history of legislative involvement with PSU has been mitigated by the scandal of Sandusky. The acts of Jerry Sandusky are a stain upon the history of Penn State, State College, Pennsylvania, community professionals, law enforcement, and state government-to name a few! But, with every storm, a bright spot can appear. Parents are now much more aware of the dangers of perpetrators acting as opportunistic "friends" in kids social ...

This was published last night by Ryan McCombie, former Navy SEAL, who won a seat on the Penn State Board of Trustees last year to bring reform. Prior to moving to State College, Pa., in 1997, I spent much of my adult life in Third World, poverty stricken nations during my service as a U.S. Navy SEAL. There, when we had free time, we would often visit orphanages (yes, SEALs do have hearts). I learned to admire the noble souls that cared for these destitute and hopeless children. After leaving the military and moving to State College, I did as many others had done and became involved with The Second Mile, then a highly respected statewide, nonprofit organization for children who need additional support founded by former Penn State assistant football coach Jerry Sandusky. I was on the development committee for The Second Mile campus, participated in the Friends for Fitness program and went to the golf tournaments sponsored by the foundation. We believed this was a great charity, and we were doing great thing ...

My response was that we are NOT "moving on". I said I thought turnout would increase because MORE alumni are engaged after the shock of the past year and a half. We will move on, but only when we can have an honest and open dialogue about what happened, the Freeh report gets completely discredited and funds have been returned, and the TRUTH is found. Wherever it may lead. It's true we must have THE LONG VIEW in mind, but only after the immediate issue is dealt with in a manner that satisfies our right to know.

"Mr. President, Rodney Erickson, I have several questions about the Freeh Report." - Sen. John Yudichak
Position Statement When do we rise up, plant our feet, and take a stand? It’s been 16 months since the child sexual abuse scandal broke and, sadly, we have yet to defend our University. Instead, we are simply asked to “move on”. Well, it’s not that simple. We need due process for our University and our beloved Coach Paterno. We need to set the record straight. We must begin a deliberate process to disprove and invalidate the Presentment and Freeh Report. This fight will take time, but it must be done carefully by the Board of Trustees and University leadership. And, of course, we must apologize to the Paterno family. Penn State needs trustees who possess a genuine sense of duty and a fiduciary responsibility to their constituents. The board needs drastic change. I would remove the president and governor, reduce the size to 21, set quorum at simple majority, establish 9-year term limits, stop the cronyism, enforce transparency, and comply with the Right-to-Know Law and Ethics Act. The boa ...

My letter published in The Centre Daily Times, Feb 27, 2013 It's time for the University and Board of Trustees to take an active role in contesting/repealing the unjust NCAA sanctions that have so severely impacted Penn State, the football program, the Centre Region, and demeaned the reputation of a great coach. The Paterno Family report on the Sandusky scandal prepared by three very credible experts raises serious questions about the validity of many conclusions in the $6.5 million Freeh Report. The NCAA is back on its heals fighting lawsuits in Pennsylvania, the lack of its own institutional control in the University of Miami investigation, and criticisms nationwide. Except for comments by a few Board members, there has been no action by the Board to open a serious review of the Freeh Report. The consent decree prohibits the Board and University from joining the lawsuits, but they can certainly initiate and keep pressure on the NCAA through press releases questioning the improper NCAA process used to sa ...

In addition to her cheating, llying, stealing, manipulation et al, she had two job opportunities that I got her. All she had to do was portray herself in a womanly, humble fashion. One was with a sales job where she met her interviewer in a bar and got drunk with him. He of course, asked her out since she conveniently left out she was involved with me. The other was with IPC medical where she would've been given a 50 K job if she hadn't acted with such a sense of entitlement and arrongance. Their words to me, not mine. The guy was a friend of mine. Then she says I wouldn't let her take a job anbd tries to extort the $3000 grand a month from me and another $1000 for her loser son who wouldn't have been eligible even if were my own. He's 20 and can't hold a job either.
I hope people take the time to read this. Ray Blehar does an amazing job of taking a great deal of data and makes it easy to digest. It is 85 pages, but it will leave your mouth open at what a poor job the Freeh Report did on this. Combined with the Paterno's Report, it is dumbfounding how the mainstream media will not pick up on this.
A proposed NCAA regulation will get rid of solid green for the Bulls, and a handful of other schools.
The role of a trustee is to guide the long term success of the organization, to provide vision and insight, to have due care for the assets of the organization, and to provide governance to the organization. If that is the true, then I think WE would all like to understand WHAT was Freeh hired to do and what university-accepted PROCESS was followed to hire his group, HOW was he contracted and how was his effort SUPERVISED, WHO contracted him and WHO managed his progress and approved his invoicing, and WHY was the final report accepted without review, before comparing to WHAT he was hired to do. If you have fiduciary responsibility for the due care of the assets of the university, then you should have followed a clearly defined process. On the other hand, assuming a process was followed, then not being able to communicate clearly, with proper documentation, is NOT a proper way to perform the duty of a trustee. Lubrano believes the time has come to ask Louis Freeh to return some or all of the millions paid to him by Penn State. “As my Board of Trustees colleagues Al Clemens, Ryan McCombie and Adam Taliaferro have already stated, this analysis of the Freeh Report raises a number of extremely serious and troubling questions.” “The Freeh Report purports to be the result of something that it is not—a full and complete investigation. As a result, it does a disservice to all those parties it was intended to help—the victims, the university and the community at large.” At the time of Louis Freeh’s engagement in November, 2011, we were told that "He has complete rein to follow any lead, to look into every corner of the university to get to the bottom of w ...

For those people who aren't sure about the importance of the alumni trustee elections, the continuing contributions by Mr. Lubrano should clarify things for them. Imagine what the current challenges to the failed leadership would be like he he hadn't been elected last Spring. His recent call for a refund from Freeh for a report which was neither comprehensive nor credible in its conclusions is a good example. Obviously, the chances of getting a refund are slim, but his public comments demand that the overall BOT review a report which is flawed beyond belief. Mr Lubrano needs some additional voices of honest inquiry on the Board, and I am volunteering to be one of them.

Many Americans are content with the 9/11 Commission Report, but the two chairmen of the commission, Thomas Kean and Lee Hamilton are not. This entire blog is wonderful. But this breakdown of the notorious '430 interviews' is one of my favorites. If I'm ever in a bind and need a serious issue investigated I know I'm not contacting Louis Freeh. My six year old would suffice if I wanted the kind of report he authored.
It has been a little more than a year since the death of JVP. Then Penn State had to bear the brunt of the Freeh Report. After that we were hit below the belt by the NCAA and the inept leadership of Mark Emerett. Despite all that we have endured, we remained steadfast. Now, with time, comes the opportunity to allow those like Mr. Freeh and Mr. Emerett to choke on their lies and quick accusations against Penn State and JVP. Their falsehoods and selfish attempts to flex their muscles are beginning to crumble. Daily, I read of clear reasons to smile as the supposed truths that they rammed down our throats that were taken as gospel truths by most of the media are crumbling apart. The NCAA is, in my opinion, on the verge of realizing they are in over their swelled heads! Thornburgh said that he didn't know Joe Paterno very well, but he was approached by attorney Wick Sollers "for whom I have a great deal of respect."
use the Freeh report, so bias it reeks
report: willing to meet with me. Freeh's statement, Paterno not willing to meet with me. A juicy contradiction
add Freeh into that list...report was rushed so sanctions could be levied at upcoming football season
Hey u should hire Louis Freeh to make a report to blame it all on the fall person u fired and clear emmert. Need info contact
So Mark Emmert showed a new level of incompetence today. Very similar to when he said the (fact) Freeh report as "thorough."
Maybe the should hire Luis Freeh to investigate them, and then accept the facts of the report without reading it.
no surprise given NCAA mishandling of PSU and Freeh report
The NCAA insisted on adopting the Freeh report because it knew it literally can't get out of its own way as an investigative body.
Emert and NCAA are holding onto a lie wrt Paterno. It's a house of cards w/the Freeh Report, and it's going to implode.

The Freeh report was akin the the missing Weapons of Mass Destruction!
•Issues and Answers: •Child Sexual Abuse Scandal Victims: agree the university must handle each case based on its own merits, settle each claim ASAP •Coach Joe Paterno: somebody has to answer for Joe. There is absolutely no way Joe knew children were being raped in the Penn State football showers, and did nothing about it. He was wrongfully terminated by a so-called “anonymous” vote from the BOT that caved in to media pressure. These trustees should resign now, they have lost the confidence of Penn Staters everywhere. •Mssrs. Spanier, Schultz, and Curley: let the legal system play out. I am hopeful evidence produced during their trial will completely exonerate Joe. •University President: a nice guy but unfortunately our president was thrown into the deep end of the pool. He, along with the BoT, made tragic errors in judgment starting with acceptance of the Freeh Report. He later acted in a vacuum when he caved in to NCAA pressures without thoroughly examining the ramifications and r ...

I wrote a slightly shorter version of this commentary last Fall, and offer it now as a useful but simple snapshot of the Freeh Fiasco: Many of us have struggled with the Freeh Report since it was released, trying to understand why Freeh would come up with his theory that people at the top of the Penn State food chain knew about Sandusky and chose to hide his offenses from the authorities, despite having no clear evidence of a cover-up. Some Penn Staters believe that Freeh was directed by members of the Board of Trustees to develop a series of conclusions which implicated Coach Paterno, President Spanier, and others to divert attention away from themselves. We currently have no evidence to confirm that suspicion, but the theory is intriguing. However, there may be another simpler and less conspiratorial explanation for Freeh’s unproven accusations, one which involves the commonplace tendency of people to project their own perspectives and reactions onto others, and assume that everybody else sees things ...

Real INTENT of Freeh report was: deflect blame, attn from PSUBOT members intertwined with 2ndMile.using taxpayer dollars.
Yes. similarly opined on such reports in his recent article re Paterno's reply to Freeh Report.

Here's an article that takes a critical look at the Paterno report. = The Paterno report accuses the Freeh report of viewing Paterno through a "conspiratorial lens." Looks to me like the lens used by the Paterno report was rose-colored. = (My reply - by way of comment - is below)
Great article by my man in SI this week on Paterno and his family's rebuttal to the Freeh report. Great work as always.
Niether Freeh nor King & Spaulding report have smoking gun so I go with credibility of Thornburgh over Freeh.

Don't like to bash the locals. But, this columnist apparently decided to not read either report. His opinion is fine. His supporting "facts" are why so many people are frustrated.

Ivan Maisel breaks down the Paterno family report and compares it to the Freeh report with Don Van Natta Jr.
In this week’s Nittany Lion Sports Report, with Bob Long and Bryan McSorley, we broke down the Paterno family commissioned reports on the inadequacies of the Freeh Report, the media appearances of the Paterno family this week, and what these reports mean in terms of who and what blame is deserved in...
"In short, Mr. Freeh unilaterally anointed himself the judge, jury and executioner by deciding to redefine Jerry Sandusky's personal crimes as a Penn State and Joe Paterno football scandal," Wick Sollers, the Paternos' attorney from the law firm King & Spalding, writes in the Paterno family report. "That bell can never be unrung, but the many associated errors can be corrected."

From LARRY LEISE who wrote down the words of GREG BUTTLE! I watched the show, and it was SO AWESOME when he (Greg) said this! Larry Leise "Joe Paterno didn't conspire to do anything. The conspiracy to me was perpetrated by a cabal of trustees, and others that felt they needed a convenient way out to relieve Penn State of what had happened." - Greg Buttle, former player, on the Katie Show.
"This report debunking the Freeh Report could be the opening of a Pandora's Box for Freeh, the Board of Trustees, and the NCAA. It will force all of them to answer questions that need to be asked and answered. And it will happen either in the court of public opinion or in a court of law. It will also teach a lesson to those who can't or won't think for themselves, who are not nearly as smart as they think they are, not nearly as moral as they think they are and blindly believe everything they read by those who will willfully ignore the truth for their own self serving reasons."
Well, well, well, what have we here??.an eye opener, indeed...
"That it took this new report to point out all the lies, distortions, and blatantly misleading and biased aspects of the Freeh Report underscores how useless the mainstream media has become and how devoid they are of any journalistic standards or ethics. From the time the first dishonest and factually inaccurate reports by people like Sean Gregory at Time magazine and those at ESPN first started to flow, and then the response of the media the NCAA and others to the Freeh Report, the mindless and equally ignorant torch carrying mob has had their say. Now with this report which speaks for itself, and the unquestioned integrity and professionalism of the people who produced it, reason, facts, truth and justice will have it's say. As for the NCAA, their sanctions were nothing more than cheap grandstanding by Mark Emmert who behaved more like a sycophantic small town World War II burgomeister trying to curry favor with Nazis than anyone who had any respect for the truth, facts or the constitution. Emmert w ...
If you still think the Freeh report is credible read this..
After seeing new evidence that pointed out how deeply flawed and biased The Freeh Report was . Unless new evidence comes out to the contrary . I do not believe that Coach Joe Paterno had anything to do with The Jerry Sandusky Scandal and in No Way did anything to hinder the investigation . Sandusky had been investigated years earlier by Police and other authorities and was cleared . Coach Paterno informed the higher ups and left the investigation up to them ? It was up to them to set the wheels in motion to further investigate or exhonerate Sandusky . Coach Paterno had tremendous responsibilities to get back to . He'd hoped the other *** higher ups would do the right thing and sort it all out ???
Can't wait to see this Freeh Report completely fall apart. Suck it, media.

How can anyone short of the Paterno family buy this crap. Coach could have and should have done something, the quote below shows how desperate his family and the Penn State faithful are, so sad. "A touchy-feely guy who had boundary issues. Think about that: McQueary tells Paterno he saw something inappropriate between Sandusky and a young boy in a shower. And Paterno possibly thinks of Sandusky as a touchy-feely guy with boundary issues."

ESPN Video: Jay Paterno discusses the accuracy of the Freeh Report and the report his family commissioned to investigate Freeh's findings.
This Paterno Report is ridiculous. It shows how egotistical and self righteous one man (and his family) can be. For over a decade, one man chose to ignore the victims and their families "for the greater good" of the institution. And now after all has been revealed, that man's family are STILL ignoring the victims and their families by trying to reopen everything in the hopes to save the Paterno name. It is needless and selfish. Shame on them. Shame on whoever else is involved in this report. Let it go. Let people heal. Let the victims, the families, and the university move on. Okay, I am done.
The family of Joe Paterno is pledging to support programs to raise awareness of and prevent children from being victimized by pedophiles.
What is the difference between the Pope and Joe Paterno?
The freeh report was wrong about Joe Paterno. Wow couldn't see that one coming. Oh wait I did.
A report, privately commissioned by the Paterno family, will be released shortly. The report supposedly defends Joe and questions the Freeh report and the sanctions against Penn State. Good to see George R.R. Martin picking up a few bucks doing side work.
Friday afternoon, it was reported that the Paterno family, alongside a legal team, would release a counter to the Freeh report roughly 180 pages long. ESPN: Trustee: Penn State should re-examine report -
Jim Clemente (retired FBI and current Criminal Minds writer/producer) goes in depth on the case of Jerry Sandusky and the extent of Joe Paterno's involvement...
I finally finished reading the entire report.well, actually, all FOUR reports. As I said from the beginning, there is not one shred of evidence that Joe did anything wrong. The conclusion is that the experts missed the signs, yet Freeh blamed the dead guy. The experts blamed Sandusky. WOW! The media and the all of the government agencies with the trained experts who missed the signs really want us to focus on Joe. Joe wanted us to focus on educaton. I'll follow's Joe's wish. We will continue to educate for the kids, because that is the right thing to do. Jim Clemente is AMAZING. He explains Sandusky's actions in a way that an average persona is able to grasp. OMG, though, it was so long reading it all. My brain in tired. I wish they had published it on tape. Maybe then the lazy media would have learned something.but doubtful. They obviously don't care about the victims.
With the Paterno family responding to "The Freeh Report," The Bower Show gives their thoughts on today's show:
Nike co-founder Phil Knight says he also may have rushed to judgment when the Freeh Report was released after the Paterno family critique was released Sunday.
Pil Knight admits he made a mistake when he turned on JoePa after hearing the brief synopsis of the freeh report that was portrayed in the media. I made this statement without having read the report in full. When I later took the time to do so, I was surprised to learn that the alarming allegations, which so disturbed the nation, were essentially theories and assertions rather than solid charges backed by solid evidence. On reflection I may have unintentionally contributed to a rush to judgment. Once again, the truth is coming out and the Haters are slowly starting to realize how wrong they were. The problem is by trying to shame JoePa, Penn State and the Penn State community they hurt real victims by making innocent people feel shame and fear about coming forward. Shame on you!
but as the paterno report showed, there is no evidence in the freeh report.Just opinion. And also GJ isnt necesrly tru
Irony: Phil Knight accusing the Freeh report of grandstanding when he issues a statement that changes his opinion for the 3rd time on joepa
Nike co-founder Phil Knight said Monday that Joe Paterno was unfairly maligned by the unjustified and unsubstantiated findings of the Freeh Report.
The freeh report said the BOT did nothing wrong. Kinda funny how freeh was hired by them, isn't it?

what a joke. ESPN actually maintains its position but prints on its site that PS BOT never reviewed Freeh report. Astounding.
