Frick award for baseball broadcasting, HOF inductee, guest hosted the Tonight Show (Johnny Carson era), spots on the Today Show, and the Westminster Dog Show (the Film "Best In Show" parodied him with a character played by Fred Willard). Of course Dbacks fans know him for being a part-time broadcaster for the last 15 years. He did say he would be available if the team really needed him to work in an emergency. Oh, Community...sadly, now you're just like a show trying to rip off Community starring the cast of Community without the je ne sais quoi that made Community Community. I wish Fred Willard really did replace Chevy Chase...he was more replaceable while Dan Harmon definitely was not (which is made apparent by these first two episodes of the fourth season). It's unfortunate that NBC fired the wrong guy and ruined a great thing. Ah well, it was good while it lasted. We'll always have your first three seasons of comedic TV perfection.

The result was like watching someone have sex with your ex and do everything you know they hate. I didn't laugh even once. I am going to pretend that Community ended with the third season and be done with it.

So, I watched the Season 4 premiere of Community last night... Something felt missing. Something small, yet so insanely integral to the show that it went from being the amazing show that I fell in love with in the fall of 2009 into, well, something that felt too cliche, too normal, too safe. There's a problem when Fred Willard's cameo in the episode was a high point. (I like Fred Willard, but even his potential was wasted)

NOT COOL NOT COOL NOT COOL. So this new Community.its not the old Community. I thought that it started off pretty good. I liked some of the jokes and I sort of wish they just had the Stand in Pierce replace Pierce for the entire season cause I would have found that hilarious. Certain characters were done well but I felt like Annie was not Annie. Something felt off for the writing of her. Also Pierce's entire subplot in the episode is a literal rehash of a skit they did MUCH BETTER with Donald Glover in an earlier season. Greendale babies did not feel like it worked in my opinion it was weak. Also Hunger Deans I'm glad the whole episode was not strictly focused upon it as most of it fell flat. Overall a few good jokes but it just didn't feel right. Hopefully it manages to bring back its goodness although the whole Dean living beside Jeff thing was painfully stupid.

Know what, I don't I would.mind if Fred Willard replaced Chevy Chase.

The "Community" season 4 premiere got 1.8 ratings. I have no idea what that means in real numbers, but I know it's twice as good at the series premiere for "Do No Harm" and better than the season premiere for "Smash." :stare:

Fred Willard should stay on Community forever

The new Community episode was glorious. I'm kind of sad that it's ending, but I really can't wait to see the rest of the series.

Community, after ten months of hype you flopped BAD. As a big fan, I am truly disgusted. However, I did like the Fred Willard as Pierce part. (Side bar, The Office has won my heart back, this has been a great season.)

It's taken 8 minutes for the new episode of community to make me laugh. Welp. It was fun while it lasted.

Abed's happy place being a traditional sitcom complete with Laugh track and Fred Willard as Pierce as well as Happy Place Abed's Happy place being a saturday morning type animated show called Greendale Babies made me happy to see Community back, add that to the Phish references in Parks and Rec. 8-9 Thursdays is again the best hour of TV.

This is probably the first time I would say this about one of my most favorite comedy shows of all time, Community. "I'm SO mixed about this now" There were some few nice funny parts here and there, but its a not-so-good starter to the possibly last season...

Have all the time in the world thanks to Pixar's Finding Nemo, but I can't bring myself to watch the new Community. Legitimately scared to open this can of worms.

Watched the season 4 premiere of Community with Michael Johnson last night, and.it was pretty good. So that's excellent news (it didn't suck). But there is also something subtly different that's hard to put your finger on. We can call this the "it ain't Dan Harmon any more" factor. Lots of classic Community stuff, most notably Abed's "happy place within a happy place" (á la Inception), where Happy Place No. 1 is a Community 3-camera sit-com with laugh track on Abed-TV (replete with promos for upcoming shows like "Sword Cooks"), where Pierce is played by Fred Willard; and Happy Place No. 2 is an animated universe in which the characters are all smart-talking babies in diapers. But as is pointed out at extreme length on the episode thread on the Community reddit (already nearly 2000 posts), there is something different about the pacing, cutting, and camera work, and it's not obvious that this is an improvement. At the end of the day, isn't it better to have this Community than no Community? If anyone needs me, I've retreated into the sitcom in my mind.

well in the aftermath of a new episode of community: -I generally enjoyed this episode, didnt love it didnt hate it -The Troy and Britta story line was poorly handled(my hopes is that it gets better next week) - Fred Willard as pierce in Abed's head was fantastic i hope they handle the pierce departure with him replacing chase in the normal world with only abed noticing the change -Locking up Chevy Chase's pierce in an attempt to make a joke about Jeff fighting over balls was a quality joke(especially because he failed at it completely) - The hunger games parody was either underused or overly focused(will figure this one out later) -the pacing felt different but I'm going to chock it up to trying to cram entirely to much into an episode it would have been better had more happened on screen with the Jeff story line - New Jeff is fantastic especially with the inevitable story arc it will create with Annie approving of new and improved Jeff. Community handled their return without Dan Harmon with such finesse it was ridiculous. The ENTIRE episode was "yeah, things are a little different. But in the end, the stapler stayed in the same place."

Good news; Community is back. Bad news; the part with Fred Willard playing Pierce was only a fantasy. I think that sums up the general reaction to its quality.

I am really, really disappointed with the Community episode. I was so excited for it but it ended up being so freaking bad. I will watch a couple more episodes in hopes that it gets better. If it doesn't, I'll just have to stay happy with 3 seasons of actually funny, not stupid episodes.

Community was... awkward. I enjoyed it, but there was something about it. Fred Willard was spot-on, though!

For a second I thought they actually replaced Chevy Chase with Fred Willard as Pierce. My feelings? Same as my ethnicity (...mixed).

Whenever I see the FB "What's going on?" prompt, all I can think of is Fred Willard in The Mighty Wind and his catch phrase, "Wha' Happened?"

Let's just talk about how great the new episode of Community was. One spoiler, but not that huge for real. First of all, obviously it wasn't the best episode. Still, it was full of the show's signature self-referential humor (i.e., The opening scene with the laugh track was a nod to the fact that the show has new show runners. Also the part of Pierce being played by Fred Willard was DEFINITELY a stab at Chevy Chase's relationship with the show itself. Very clever.) I'm seeing people say that "Oh no, it's SO different." Well, of course it is. But it's still great. Keep watching everybody. It may not be Dan Harmon anymore, but it's 100% still Community. Happy Hunger Deans.

If the rest of the season is that bad, I'll be surprised if Community is still on in March.

You get it? Fred Willard is going to replace Chevy Chase. Chevy left the show with a few eps left this season. They may have actually went back to tape those parts with Fred Willard. Brilliant.

If you like Fred Willard, you should see him in the short-lived sitcom, "Back to You" with Kelsey Grammar, Patricia Heaton and Ty Burrell.
