Saturday Night Live leans on *** characters and situations the way Cinemax relies on fake breasts, and the season finale was no different. In a skit featuring the Vogelchecks, the family that likes to kiss a lot, *** son (Andy Samberg) brings his boyfriend home. The punchline is that, after numerous smooches, the family is stunned to watch Michael Sam’s celebratory kiss on TV. Well, at least their heart was in the right direction—and we got to enjoy appearances by Kirsten Wiig, Fred Armisen, Bill Hader, Maya Rudolph and Paul Rudd. From what I hear (which isn't much), and which most people can agree with, is that, the top four performers in Saturday Night Live history are Eddie Murphy, Will Ferrell, Dan Ackroyd, and Phil Hartman. Who can disagree? HOWEVER, my first two picks would be Fred Armisen, who can play anyone from Barack Obama to Lawrence Welk, and Maya Rudolph, who can go from dumb blonde model to Oprah. Give them the right wig, they can do anything.
The season finale of Saturday Night Live just finished...and WHAT A SHOW!! Host Andy Samberg...and TONS of cameos tonight: former SNL cast members Kathryn Wiig, Bill Hader, Mya Rudolph, and Fred Armisen.and comedic actors and former hosts Martin Short and Paul Rudd...and the regular cast. BIG FUN!

Social Media Latest: 'SNL' Is Reclaiming Its Turf via Social Media — Just in Time: If we take online comments as a scaled down version of the world at large, it's clear that 2014 global society is divided on three main topics: religion, climate change and which cast of Saturday Night Live was the best. As it stands, SNL has muscled through its 39th season amidst heavy criticism surrounding both a lack of cast diversity and a sketch model that, at times, seems to ignore contemporary culture. As clutch cast members Bill Hader, Jason Sudeikis and Fred Armisen, along with writer John Mulaney, departed before the season's start, the obvious question was whether or not a largely young and inexperienced cast could carry the show to new heights Read more...More about Entertainment, Tv, Television, Social Media, and Features

Matthew Perry: 'Why In The World Did We Stop' Doing 'Friends'? (VIDEO) 06/13/13 04:41 PM ET When "Friends" came to an end after 10 seasons and 236 episodes in May 2004, 52.5 million viewers tuned in to say goodbye to Monica Geller (Courteney Cox), Chandler Bing (Matthew Perry), Rachel Green (Jennifer Aniston), Ross Geller (David Schwimmer), Phoebe Buffay (Lisa Kudrow) and Joey Tribbiani (Matt LeBlanc). The numbers "Friends" brought in -- not only for its series finale -- are difficult, if not impossible to achieve today and no one is more painfully aware of that fact than Matthew Perry, whose latest comedy effort, NBC's "Go On," was canceled after its first season in May. So ... why did "Friends" end? Perry is now asking himself that same question. During a chat with more of comedy's leading men -- Jim Parsons ("The Big Bang Theory"), Jake Johnson ("New Girl"), Eric Stonestreet ("Modern Family"), Adam Scott ("Parks and Recreation") and Fred Armisen ("Portlandia" and "Saturday Night Live") -- for The Holly ...

One of the last great things that Fred Armisen gave the world as a cast member on Saturday Night Live (he left the show in May) was Ian Rubbish, a fictional punk rocker and lead singer of the Bizarros, who hates cops and the Queen almost as much as he loves Margaret Thatcher. SNL is Back – Can the Show Survive Its All-Star Exodus? Season 39 of Saturday Night Live kicks off tomorrow, and everyone is wondering how the six new cast members are going to do. They’ve got big shoes to fill: SNL vets Fred Armisen, Bill Hader, and Jason Sudeikis all moved on after last season. Most of the new cast members are relatively unknown, but you might recognize Beck Bennett from these AT&T commercials. It will also be interesting to see how “Weekend Update” works with two hosts. Seth Meyers will share hosting duties with second-year cast member Cecily Strong (aka the Girl You Wish You Hadn’t Started a Conversation With at a Party) at least until he leaves for Late Night in February. Get excited for tomorrow’s premiere with Tina Fey’s promo clip, and make sure to watch some skits from our old favorites.

NBC Officially Announces Six New 'SNL' Cast Members NBC officially announced the addition of six new featured players to Saturday Night Live on Monday -- Beck Bennett (from those AT&T "It's Not Complicated" commercials), John Milhiser, Kyle Mooney, Mike O'Brien, Noel Wells and Brooks Wheelan. The longrunning sketch show also announced that second-year player Cecily Strong will be the next to helm the "Weekend Update" desk, replacing Seth Meyers. Why This Matters: With the departures of show stalwarts Jason Sudeikis, Fred Armisen and Bill Hader (not to mention Seth Meyers at midseason when he starts his Late Night gig), the longrunning late-night sketch series is undergoing another big makeover. 3 Takes: B&C | THR | Variety
'SNL' Unveils Host, Musical Act for Show's Season 39 Premiere USA Today NBC's "Saturday Night Live" has announced hosts and musical acts for the first few episodes of the upcoming 39th season, and the headline is the return of former "Weekend Update" anchor Tina Fey to host the premiere. USA Today reports that Fey will host the Sept. 28 season opener, with Arcade Fire on tap as the musical act. The appearance will be Fey's fourth as guest host since she left "SNL" in 2006 to launch "30 Rock." Arcade Fire will also be making its fourth appearance. "For Week 2 on Oct. 5, Miley Cyrus, who made a grindingly big splash at MTV's Video Music Awards, will both host and perform as the musical guest," the story reports. "And Oct. 12, actor Bruce Willis returns for his second hosting stint, joined by Katy Perry, promoting her upcoming album 'Prism.'" The report adds: "Still no word on how producer Lorne Michaels plans to replenish the Not Ready for Prime Time Players lineup. 'SNL' lost Bill Hader, Fred Armisen and J ...

A Quote from Newsday about Bloody Bloody Andrew Jackson: What made Jackson so appealing was his demagoguery against Washington's establishment -- Henry Clay, John Calhoun, James Monroe, Martin Van Buren and Adams -- portraits in buffoonery as painted by Ed Huether, Jeremy Hudson, Tom Meglio, Ronnie Green and Brendan Noble. Although Portraits in buffoonery might seem an insult, it is a very well received compliment as our characters are such you might see in a Saturday Night Live skit performed by the likes of Bill Hader, Fred Armisen, and others. Please come see us this final weekend!

Looks like there may be some massive cast changes at Saturday Night Live this fall; Seth Myers is leaving to take over Late Night, Bill Hader confirmed this week that he is leaving as well, and now come reports from the NY Post that Fred Armisen is 100% done and that Jason Sudeikis is likely out the door, too. Myers is not actually leaving until the end of 2013, so he'll start the year with the show and then leave to get ready for his February debut on Late Night.

The futures of Fred Armisen and Jason Sudeikis are also up in the air as "SNL" breaks for the summer before Season 39. But one other departure is certain: Seth Meyers. Meyers will leave "Saturday Night Live" and take over as "Late Night" host when Jimmy Fallon move to "The Tonight Show," replacing Jay Leno. However, Meyers will stay with "SNL" through the fall before he takes over "Late Night."

I must admit, I am somewhat of a fuddy-duddy (pun totally intended), when it comes to contemporary music, but Alabama Shakes just blew me away on Saturday Night Live tonight! And like so much of the most wonderful music ever made (jazz and blues and bluegrass), it comes from the American south! BTW, SNL was incredibly funny tonight. Bill Hader, Fred Armisen, and Kenan Thompson are brilliant. Enjoy them while you can, because if history is any indication, they are about ready to go make some really crappy movies!

Saturday Night Live had their former 'Barack Obama,' Fred Armisen do the the hand off by giving the introductions in this skit, and although I think the newest member of their cast to take on the role of the President has a way to go in the being …
I have a feeling that Mayor Bloomberg is going to be harshly satirized by Fred Armisen tonight on "Saturday Night Live." Sure, he ended up 'doing the right thing,' but AFTER Mary Wittenburg of the NYC Roadrunners essentially withdrew her organization from the event because she, unlike Bloomy, has a moral compass.
I do not care what's going on in life, I don't think anything lifts my mood like Saturday Night Live. It's still a funny, funny, funny show. I love Kristen Wiig and Bill Hader and Andy Samberg and Fred Armisen and Jason Sudakis and every last one of those hilarious people.

To Ben, I should not have listened to your e-mail from a few months ago about Portlandia. I had heard good things about it, but was afraid to watch as I feared I might get hooked as I always do when I find a TV series worth watching. Well its happened again. I was hooked from the first episode which started with the music video "The Dream Of The 90s Is Alive In Portland", which I can't get out of my head and don't want it to leave actually. Kyle Maclachlan as the cool, hip mayor of Portland is a hoot every time he appears and this show simply confirms what I always suspected, Fred Armisen was vastly under-used on Saturday Night Live. Of course, I remember Armisen from EuroTrip where he was the horny Italian gent who molests the boys on the train, but that may just be my selective memory. By the way, Gus Van Sant's cameo as a moderator at the Blunderbust Film Festival is so dead on accurate about film fest moments I have attended, it was actually painful to watch. I've already memorized the first se ...

I must think I am a college student again. I stayed up until 1 a.m. (!!!) for the second time in three weeks because I got pulled into Saturday Night Live. SO FUNNY. I could not stay up for Saturday Night Live this weekend, but just saw the skit that spoofs the debate - and HOWLED. Jay Pharoah is OK as Obama, I thought Fred Armisen was better (but he really cracks me up in general). Jason Sudeikis was perfect as Romney. If you have not seen it, the basic implication was Obama did so poorly because he forgot to buy Michelle a 20th anniversary gift - and, of course, the Denver altitude...
Wait. Fred Armisen is STILL on Saturday Night Live? Yikes. He's the new Tim Meadows apparently.
Getting ready to watch Saturday Night Live tonight. I haven't seen it this season yet, but I hear that they have a black man portraying the president rather than the Fred Armisen in black face. I don't know how the liberal media let them get away with that for the past few years.
Obama's blend of cool and reserve has proven tough to imitate, and it's dragging down "Saturday Night Live."
The new Obama on Saturday Night Live is pretty good. Not that I'll ever watch the show, but thank god they don't have Fred Armisen in black-face anymore.

Fred Armisen has been on SNL so long that there are children that think the show is called "Saturday Night Live... with Fred Armisen!"
After several years of criticizing Fred Armisen's impersonation of Barack Obama on Saturday Night Live, Jay Pharoah (my choice for a replacement) finally assumed that role during the season premier this weekend. And I was not impressed. Disappointed, in fact. I'm becoming a hard-to-please, cranky old man.
In its 38th Season Premiere, Saturday Night Live poked fun of the upcoming 2012 presidential election.
Over the weekend on Saturday Night Live, President Barack Obama stepped aside and was succeeded by President Barack Obama. 'Saturday Night Live's new season began with a passing of the torch, as veteran Obama impersonator Fred Armisen introduced the show's new presidential imitator. 'I wouldn't want his job, right?' he joked.
Watching Saturday Night Live from last night. So far I'm not a fan of Jay Pharoah's Obama impression, bring back Fred Armisen.
Compare Jay Pharoah's Obama with Fred Armisen's on Saturday Night Live: Whose is better?
Thank you so much, "Saturday Night Live," for FINALLY letting Jay Pharoah portray Barack Obama. Fred Armisen is talented in other ways, but playing Obama has never been one of them.
You know what worries me? I watch Saturday Night Live, as I rarely do these days, and I notice Bill Hader's on the show. I do a little thinking, and I realize Hader hasn't LEFT the show. Man, it'll be eight seasons this year? It feels like he's been around longer than Fred Armisen. I remember when appearing on SNL for more than seven years was a RARITY. Nowadays, it's an accepted - almost REQUIRED - practice. At least I'm past the stage where I expect this show to be anything more than the weather-beaten *** it currently is. Also, what the *** keeps Armisen on the show? At least Darrell Hammond had the alibi of drug/alcohol abuse.
The 38th season of Saturday Night Live premiered this week with an opening segment featuring new cast member Jay Pharoah portraying President Barack Obama. “Obama” had been previously impersonated by white guy Fred Armisen.
So I was watching Saturday Night Live. I got excited when I saw Jay Pharaoh as Obama, because I thought that meant Fred Armisen was off the show. But, sure enough, he was in the opening credits. Ah, oh well. SNL is back!!! :)
Saturday Night Live's first show of the new season tonight. Good news- Jason Sudeikis stayed to do his Mitt Romney. Better news, they are finally using Jay Pharoah to play Obama instead of Fred Armisen.
"Saturday Night Live" is getting a new Barack Obama. Lorne Michaels told the New York Times on Wednesday that Jay Pharoah, a young castmember who is entering his first season as a featured player, will be taking over the role from Fred Armisen, who has played the president since the 2008 election.
Fred Armisen will still get to play Prince and Manuel Ortiz and Nicholas Fehn and the “What’s Up With That” sax player on “Saturday Night Live.” But he’s surrendering the role of Barack Obama to newer cast member Jay Pharoah, according to SNL mastermind Lorne Michaels.
Ever since Jay Pharoah joined the Saturday Night Live cast two years ago, comedy watchers have wondered if and when he would replace Fred Armisen as the show’s go-to Obama impersonator. Armisen’s Obama has not gotten rave reviews—and some have criticized the show, which has never had a plethora of b...
"Saturday Night Live" will use cast member Jay Pharoah, not Fred Armisen, in its President Obama sketches this season.
Lorne Michaels broke the news yesterday that when the new season of Saturday Night Live starts this weekend, it will be Jay Pharoah playing President Obama rather than Fred Armisen, who has played POTUS since 2008. Pharoah, currently a featured player (though that may change), has been honing his Ob...

'Saturday Night Live' elects a new Obama; Jay Pharoah to take over role from Fred Armisen
The New York Times reports that in the upcoming season of Saturday Night Live, President Obama will finally be played by an African-American actor, while Mitt Romney will be played by Jason Sudeikis. Obama has long been played by half-white, half-Asian actor Fred Armisen — a curious choice giv...
Relative SNL-newcomer Jay Pharoah will replace Fred Armisen as Saturday Night Live's resident Obama impersonator, according to an interview Lorne Michaels gave to the New York Times today. "Jay has been doing Obama in his act this summer, and Jay is coming into his own," Mr.
Saturday Night Live is not going to be as good without Kristen Wiig! The new season starts this saturday..PLUS Fred Armisen is no longer going to play Obama..Not cool.
When Saturday Night Live returns on Saturday, it's a safe bet the show will open Jason Sudeikis doing his Romney impersonation across from an Obama. But things are different this year. Fred Armisen is out. Jay Pharoah is the new impersonator-in-chief.
Election Day isn’t for another two months, but Saturday Night Live has already chosen a new man to sit in the Oval Office. Jay Pharoah will replace Fred Armisen as President Obama in the sketch com...
This week, Alec talks with Fred Armisen. Armisen has been a punk rock drummer, currently he’s a cast member on Saturday Night Live and is also the co-creator and co-star of IFC’s Portlandia. Armisen has always been ambitious; when he was a drummer, he recalls, he always "wanted much more...
I see that Fred Armisen, a Saturday Night Live cast member since 2002, is returning for another season. I was hoping he would FINALLY leave so they could find someone to do a credible imitation of Barack Obama. I'll bet Jay Pharoah could nail it.
Saturday Night Live alumni Fred Armisen is the co-creator and star of indie TV hit Portlandia. Alasdair Duncan talks to him about cross-dressing, video games and whether the people of Portland hate him.
It was created by Saturday Night Live cast member Fred Armisen. It's awesome and I love it!
Seamus and Rhiannon are at the table eating a snack together and they are singing... they sound like Garth and Kath from Saturday Night Live... you know, the singing couple on Weekend Update (Fred Armisen and Kristin Wiig) who never have their songs prepared beforehand and they make it up on their own (horribly). Yeah, that's why the kids sound like right now, lol.
I quite like Fred Armisen. He's a Saturday Night Live regular. You should check out "Party Down" if you've not seen it.
We have finished our 30 second short movie for the Be Serous For 30 Seconds project created by Fred Armisen (Saturday Night Live and Portlandia). Veteran "Saturday Night Live" cast member Fred Armisen has been impersonating President Obama since before the 2008 election and, if he stays on the show, could potentially do it for another four years.
Above Average is a new Youtube channel that features shorts from the people behind Saturday Night Live, 30 Rock and more. Here's their latest...
I just had a brand new life experience. I laughed at something Fred Armisen did on Saturday Night Live.
Listening to the Stones on Pandora reminded me of *** Jagger's recent performance on Saturday Night Live as host and musical guest! If your like me you think SNL is not as funny as it used to be BUT the guy still has it to this day and is even funny as a "bearded" hollywood actor and introverted insurance salesman. Look it up online if you didn't see it. He rocks with Foo Fighters and Fred Armisen kills with a karaoke impersonation.
VIDEO: Saturday Night Live launches Web series with Bill Hader, Fred Armisen and more!
Kristen Wiig never fails to make me laugh. She's my favourite in Saturday Night Live! Oh Fred Armisen and Bill Hader too. They're hilarious!
The first part of June marks "Talking Animals" 9th anniversary, & to celebrate each year, I always like to invite a special guest (at least, special to me!). So, for this week's show: It's Carrie Brownstein, who along with Fred Armisen of "Saturday Night Live," is the creator and star of the sketch series "Portlandia" And, she's been in not one, but two great bands: Sleater-Kinney & now Wild Flag. Carrie will speak with us live on "Talking Animals" this Weds, June 6 at 11am ET, on WMNF (88.5 FM) in Tampa, streaming live online at thanks!
At least we'll always have Fred Armisen. :-( (watching Saturday Night Live)
You know what they say about the Finger Lakes - if you can only squeeze in one finger on your first visit, just relax. The season finale of Saturday Night Live is clearly going to be all class, if Fred Armisen's line in the first sketch of the night is to be believed. The recurring Lawrence Welk Sho...
This film put indie rock drummer Fred Armisen on the comedy map. Less than four years later, he was a cast member on Saturday Night Live.
Ok all FB friends, Eli Manning is hosting SNL( Saturday Night Live for those that don't watch)!! It will be great I'm sure!! Fred Armisen does a great OBama and Jason Sudakis slays Mitt Romney!! Way to go Eli!!

Fred Armisen is the most underrated cast member on Saturday Night Live. He has always been hilarious.
As a reporter in a parody on Saturday Night Live, at least. Sofia Vergara joined SNL cast members Bill Hader and Fred Armisen in their coverage of the 74th annual Hunger Games, or as the Modern...
