I read stories from the past that Frances Bavier role of Aunt Bee she differcuit to work with because she was typecast
I tried to find more photos and I found this. It's NOT Aunt Bea!Analysis: It's true that actress Frances Bavier played the role of the matronly Aunt Bea on The Andy Griffith Show (1960-1968), but whoever is trying to convince us that she posed for the pin-up photo above is pulling our collective leg. It's actually a publicity still from the 1949 film Yes Sir, That's My Baby starring Donald O'Connor and, pictured in a bathing suit, Gloria DeHaven. DeHaven, born in 1925, was 24 years old when the photo was taken. Frances Bavier, born in 1902, would have been 47. Well, it was fun while it lasted!
A reader sent me this pic and wants to know if it is Frances Bavier, aka Aunt Bea of Andy Griffith Show. Any help??

Last night, I shared a picture someone had mistakenly identified as Frances Bavier, also known as Aunt Bee. I posted a correction that the picture is in fact, NOT Aunt Bee. However, I see today that said pic has gone viral. Again, the picture is NOT Aunt Bee!
Frances Bavier and Don Knotts pioneered the "key party" between takes in 1964.
Today is the 110th anniversary of the birth of actress Frances Bavier--or, as my generation knew her, "Aunt Bee":
The Andy Griffith Show - Dogs Dogs Dogs Sitcom first televised by CBS between October 3, 1960, and
Aunt Bee's Invisible Beau "Griffith died July 3, 2012, at his home in Manteo, N.C. His was 86."
On this date in 1960: "The Andy Griffith Show" debuts on CBS. A spinoff of "The Danny Thomas Show", Andy Griffith starred as Andy Taylor, sheriff of rural Mayberry, North Carolina. Co-stars included Don Knotts as bumbling Deputy Barney Fife, Ron Howard as Andy's young son Opie, and Frances Bavier as his Aunt Bee. The show was a tremendous success, and finished in the annual top ten for its entire run. The series aired 249 episodes over eight seasons, and launched two spinoffs of its own - "Gomer Pyle, USMC" and "Mayberry R.F.D.".
today in 1960: The Andy Griffith Show premiered on CBS-TV. It was about a sheriff and his deputy in a town with no crime. It starred Andy Griffith as Andy, Don Knotts as Barney, Ronny Howard as Opie, Frances Bavier as Aunt Bea, Jim Nabors as Gomer, Anita Corsaut as Helen, George Lindsey as Goober, Howard McNear as Floyd, Hal Smith as Otis, Jack Dodson as Howard, Paul Hartman as Emmett, Betty Lynn as Th///elma Lou, and Hope Summers as Clara. It lasted eight seasons and continues today in reruns.
Grandma's buried 2 or 3 graves down from Frances Bavier, "Aunt Bee" from "The Andy Griffith Show". I thought that was really cool, a legend near another legend. Goodbye, Grandma.
Andy Griffith, rest his soul. I saw a few episodes of the AG marathon on TV land. I have come to the conclusion that Frances Bavier,(Aunt Bea) in Hillary Clintons mother! Look at them! It is undeniable!!!
I am sure some people are getting sick of my TAGS posts, but I need to update an earlier post re: surviving cast members. As of 7-5-12, the surviving cast members list includes Betty Lynn (Thelma Lou), Elinor Donahue (Ellie Walker, Andy's love interest in Season One), Maggie Peterson (Charlene Darling) and Ken Berry (Sam Jones, who also starred in Mayberry RFD). This is, of course, in addition to Ron Howard and Jim Nabors. Sadly, we have lost Andy Griffith, Don Knotts, George Lindsay (Goober), Frances Bavier (Aunt Bee), Aneta Corsaut (Helen), Howard McNear (Floyd), Hal Smith (Otis), Howard Morris (Ernest T), Jack Dodson (Howard), Denver Pyle (Briscoe Darling) and Doug Dillard and Mitch Jaynes (two of "The Darlings," who in real life were members of the musical ensemble The Dillards). The beautiful singing voice of Jack Prince (Rafe Hollister) also is silent. :{
Actor-singer Jim Nabors is among those paying tribute to Andy Griffith, who died Tuesday at age 86. Nabors co-starred with Griffith in the classic comedy The Andy Griffith Show, which also featured Don Knotts, Ron Howard and Frances Bavier in its cast.
Rest in Peace Andy. My grandmother knew Frances Bavier (Aunt Bee) when they both lived in Siler City, NC.
The Danny Thomas Show episode that spun off the Andy Griffith Show is on today. "Sam Drucker" from Petticoat Junction plays the town drunk, named Will Copeland instead of Otis. Frances Bavier (Aunt Bee) plays the widow Henrietta Perkins, and "Aunt Lucy" is the Aunt Bee character. Very, very funny!
Do yourself a favor and watch this. Includes the amazing "Giraffes are so selfish" speech by Don Knotts. Genius.
The only reason I learned how to whistle.
Sad to hear of America's sheriff Andy Griffith passing. Do yourself a favor & watch this episode some time
She was Aunt Bea and he didn't pay you for sex and then tried to kill you but you ran away just in time, Frances Bavier and Norman Fell.
While doing some research, I came across something interesting (to me, at least). Remember "Mayberry R.F.D." - it was a spin-off of "The Andy Griffith Show" and debuted in September 1968? Aunt Bee (Frances Bavier) moved in with widower Sam Jones (Ken Berry) and his son, played by Buddy Foster (yeah, that's Jodie Foster's older brother), to help raise the boy, much as she had done with Andy and Opie. Anyway, Aunt Bee was a part of the show in its 2 seasons, but left after that and was replaced in 1970 by Alice Ghostley, who portrayed Sam Jones' cousin and their new housekeeper, Alice Cooper - the name is the thing that's interesting to me. Alice Ghostley also portrayed Esmeralda on "Bewitched," a role created after Marion Lorne, who played Aunt Clara died. Eerily, it was on this very date, May 9th, in 1968, that Lorne died, a fact that I did not know until just now and an amazing coincidence, considering I had already typed this far not being aware of that. Alice Cooper - the band - released its firs ...
With Andy Griffith, Ron Howard, Don Knotts, Frances Bavier. Widower Sheriff Andy and his son Opie live with Andy's Aunt Bee in Mayberry NC. With virtually no crimes to solve...
The recent death of George Lindsey, who played Goober Pyle on "The Andy Griffith Show," reminds me of all the unforgetable characters who were on that show. Andy Taylor, played by Andy Griffith, still alive at 81. Opie , played by Ron Howard. Barney Fife, played by Don Knotts, died at 81. Aunt Bea, played by Frances Bavier, died in 1989, and Gomer Pyle, played by Jim Nabors, still alive at 81. There are many others, too numerous to list.
There was an 18-month window during the shooting of "The Andy Griffith Show" that Frances Bavier (Aunt Bee) carried a jackknife in her boot.
