St. Anne’s Food Pantry needs your help to win $20K grant
In the true spirit of the holidays, community advocate and President of the Hunters Point Civic Association, Brent O'Leary. and John Dallaire of the LIC-Astoria Lions Club, put together a food drive and gathered more than 3,300 pounds of food to feed the hungry. I was honored to join them and Murphy's Lobster Grill's Mike Murphy in delivering boxes of donated food items to Bread of Life Food Pantry in Queensbridge, the Hour Children Food Pantry in Long Island City, and the St Rafael’s Food Pantry in Sunnyside. Thank you to everyone who put donation boxes in their residential buildings, to Food Cellar, Urban Market of Long Island City, and Associated Marketplace of Sunnyside for encouraging shoppers to buy just one extra box of cereal for a hungry child, and to Jeremy Rosenberg for getting CUNY School of Law to help. Merry Christmas to all who celebrate, and we promise to keep doing more for the community of Western Queens in 2015.

Hi, Friends! I have hesitated to post about this, but am sharing this info because our mutual concern is kids from the Ferguson-Florissant School District who do not have access to regular meals this week. I wanted to share that there is a food pantry in Florissant, and there are students in that area who are also not able to attend classes at this time. Lots of families this week with kids in tow. If you are interested in donating there as well, the place is: TEAM Food Pantry 265 St. Catherine Florissant, MO 63031 They can accept donations from 10a - 2p, and the firehouse nearby (Florissant Valley Fire Protection District) accepts donations all day (and evening). That firehouse is located at 661 St. Ferdinand (2 blocks away). TEAM serves an average of 45 families daily and has been struggling to help those in need. Donations are low this time of year, and demand is higher right now. Thank you to everyone showing support to those in need. I do not mention this pantry in Florissant to detract support in a ...
Brothers and Sisters across the United States. I know for many it is so hard to make ends meet, with the unemployment levels being so high, bills piling up on the kitchen table, fighting to keep food on the table for your family and clothing for everyone. It is a never ending struggle. There is help! Contact your local church (Note: You don't have to be a member of the church) or your local Salvation Army Corp. these groups have shown that they do care and can help. There are so many other groups out there ready to help. In the state of New Jersey I have the honor of working for two of the many groups that can help. So I heard a story today that made me feel not so alone. Another mom was talking about her daughter and summer coming. Her daughter wants to attend a fall trip at school &this mom said that she'd pay for it as long as the daughter participated as part of her family, not retreat to her room, complete list of daily chores and other specific projects given to her without complaint. I am struggling with this too...I know it's just their age to not want to be around us but I cannot let the summer go by without getting them engaged in something that I know will keep them active and meeting others their own age. What volunteer activities do you know of locally that tweens could volunteer for this summer? Here's my short list: Library, Pet Shelters, Food Pantry, Church Programs & Fundraisers for non-profits. Now-how do I get my kids on board without making this seem like "summer school"?

A few weeks ago it was at the PACE Clinic for my normal HIV check up and one of the doctors was telling me how every Tuesday they go to the creek and take care of the medical needs of the homeless. I asked them if they feed them as well and if not, would they be Interested in handing out bagged lunches each Tuesday. After a brief talk I knew God was sending me on a mission. So in the next few paragraphs you will read about the birth of "Taking it to the Streets" I went to Cambridge Park Lions Club meeting where they approved funding on the monies we need to get started. Then Wednesday morning Cameron Park United Methodist Church gave The Amanda Network/ Lions club permission to use their kitchen on Tuesday mornings to prepare the sandwiches. About 30 mins after hearing about the kitchen I called "The Milpitas Food Pantry"and got the infusion of food we need every week to make the lunches. So starting Tuesday, May 27 "taken it ...

Five years have been bittersweet without you here to see all the changes in all of our lives, especially your children's lives, Angela and Sean's family, and mine. You would be so proud. We're celebrating Angela's birthday today in Va Beach and so glad they are here to see me this weekend and it was only a two hour trip instead of a ten hour one. Had to run out of church this AM with us all there together.tears were beginning to flow thinking of you and how much you have been instrumental in changing my life and inspiring my life now and especially with my work with my church's food pantry. The garden is now completely planted with a variety of vegetables, thanks to a lot of hard work by some of our members. We have just begun to harvest and make donations to the food pantry; delivering 45 pounds of spinach, lettuce and green onions thus far. Of course the work will continue with weeding, watering, harvesting, mulching and replanting as necessary. Look forward to seeing you out there. Remember, starting June 2 we go to summer hours [8-11 AM] on our Monday and Thursday work days. • 12 May -- Today we spread mulch over much of the vegetable garden. It was hard work [especially since the mulch had to be moved by wheelbarrow from the far west end of the Community Garden. Jessie, Loretta, and Annie Skaggs were real troupers in completing this work. Now we should not need to weed as much. • 15 May -- Jessie, Eloise and Annie Sereno moved wood chips, and cleaned Bermuda grass from around the fruit trees. A very tough job in the cool, damp weather. Thanks a lot. Four lbs. of lettuce and ...

We went down to the Open Hands food pantry and delivered our second load of the year. Our goal for the year has already been reached, and now we'll continue on to 1,000. This is Jared with Joe, the Director of Open Hands. After we put everything away, we stayed and helped set up boxes of food for people, then brought those boxes to their cars for them. We had a few pieces of chocolate and granola bars we brought with us just because we had them anyway, not knowing if they could be used. To see the face of a 7 year old child light up over them, made the thought well worthwhile. We are all learning that a gesture that may seem simple to us, can mean a lot to someone else.

Lazy Saturday evening coming to a close...(lots of sirens going up 15th Street earlier)...worked the food pantry at church this morning...then this afternoon was Jen and Paul White's wedding and reception - the Judson clan was out in full force - good day...got home and watched an HBO movie...about ready for bed...read in the Duquesne University magazine that a friend from my college days had died - made me pause and think a bit - hadn't seen him since '67, but had some good memories...church tomorrow - no choir, just me...little else on the agenda...I hope everyone is doing well and finds some time to remember the true meaning of observing Memorial Day...(forgive me if I have posted this before) I seem to have these fond memories of Memorial Day and the Lakeview High School Band...three parades and services - Jackson Center, Stoneboro, then lunch at Lakeview Inn, then Sandy Lake, then the Lake - for fun...in my young youth I remember watching the parade in Stoneboro, walking to the park, hearing someone ...
This is a good idea. Why isn't it being done? The produce could be served in the cafeteria and/or given to a shelter or food pantry.
Speaking of bible thumpers, the girl who gave Isabella a bible the other day, is STILL after her. Sent her a very long message pleading with her, etc and asked her to go to church tomorrow. Isabella reassured her that she is fine and happy and doesn't need religion or a god to feel comfortable or fulfilled. Science and the universe and this one life are enough for her. The girl said "I will pray for you every night of my life" . How about volunteer some time visiting the elderly or at a food pantry?, jeez. Isabella has gone to church with friends before, it's always reinforced her atheism because of the decisiveness and judgmental attitudes and all the contradictions. They have all bashed *** and that was it for her. She is reading the bible and she is coming to the same conclusions. "This makes no sense". She's also annotating the passages that were in "Jesus Christ Superstar".
GREAT day @ God's Grace food pantry distribution. Served around 300 people and the GREATEST PART, 4 PEOPLE GAVE THEIR HEART TO THE LORD JESUS CHRIST. Wow what a day!
Don't forget to support your local food pantry during the summer. The need is even greater when children are out of school.
In the chapel at 5341 Emerson (Saint Louis), one of the poorest sections of town, part of the St Mary's Orphanage for Girls built in 1899, complete then with classrooms, playrooms, gardens, and chicken coops. Decades later, it was rededicated at a home for special needs girls by Rose Anne Kennedy. Still working on our financing for the purchase and on our adaptive re-use plans. Complex, with multiple tenant leads -- assisted living for veterans, adult day care, warm water rehab therapies, a clinic, an expanded food pantry, a clinic, a demonstration urban garden initiative with Monsanto, a call center for a tech company, a satellite location for vocational training.
Thank all of you who sent us happy anniversary wishes yesterday. And all of u who "liked" our picture and acknowledged our anniversary. We had a sweet day. The surprise breakfast, then the morning in one of our favorite places - serving at our church food pantry - then had one of our favorite dinners. - catfish parlor. Ah. Great day.
Unopen boxes of cereal would like to go to a food pantry or someone in need. Dont want to throw it out.
So, Layla and I spent the afternoon handing out flyers at the Giant requesting donations for The Haymarket Food Pantry. While many are very happy to give, and are graceous, some are just rude. Layla would try to hand some folks flyers and explain why we were out there, and some people wouldn't even acknowledge or look at her. How do people do that to a child who is there trying to do something good? She handled it very well, though. I've raised a pretty tough cookie. She's learned that the only attitude she can change is her own, and no matter how anyone else behaves or treats others she should always take the high road. She'll be better for it in the end.

Thank you to everyone who donated their time and baked goods to make this such a success
What a blessing-filled day. Dale and I went to 'help' at the food pantry at church). Bill and Debbie Campbell had all the work done, this is their great joy and has been for 12 yrs.. We got there for the joyful part; watching many needy people come and gratefully receive help with food and various other necessities. Approximately 30 families were represented. Also, the church van packed up with sandwiches, fruit, water, etc. as they headed out to feed the homeless in many areas. Our son Rick has been involved in this ministry since his first trip. He says it forever changes you. Dale and I want to go the next time! So many other members of our little church with a huge vision are involved in the homeless ministry too. The late beloved Pastor Don used to say if you had problems, etc...put your hand to a task and help others. He was so right! Thank you to all for allowing us to be part of what God is doing. Jesus said, 'The poor you will always have with you'.
We had a great time today at the food pantry: 177 shoppers, 35 volunteers. The average basket weighed 30.8 pounds, so we gave away 5,451.6 pounds. Thanks to everyone who worked so hard!
I am going to go help the Kaua`i North Shore Lions Club paint Kilauea Park for a while this morning while I can, so the Weinberg Foundation will give Church of the Pacific's Food Pantry $10,000 to help them continue to feed those who are hungry. Leveraging Good-For-Good. Please come join in. Many hands make light work. Malama Kaua`i. UPDATE: The Rotary Club was there too, so there were many, many hands making a big difference. :)

Please say a prayer for Leonard Fick. His back went out yesterday before he left work. Spent a few hours at Patient First. Got a shot of demerol (Him, not me) and some good scripts. He's been in bed since yesterday. Thankfully we had no plans for the weekend. Meanwhile, I have: been up since 5am for no real reason but couldn't go back to sleep. Got groceries at 7am. Worked at the food pantry from -11:30 then took the kids to feed them. Gave the kids chores to complete before they could go hang out. Now it's time to kick back and relax.
Thanks to all who could make it today and help restock at the food pantry. Glad to have Emma (Osborne) Jones, Rachel Cobb, Rob Spencer and John Kirkman come and help us.
Andrew Diehl, jagger and i just had the most humbling experience volunteering at the food pantry for their mass distribution all morning. Definitely realize how blessed we are.
ATTENTION actually feeling a little ashamed about a church today, I went to their food pantry and as I walked in the door I saw my aunt who had a dry throat and coughing, I yelled to a worker " can I get a glass of water for this lady? she really needs one," I was approached from behind by another worker "volunteer" and was told to "go sit down" kind of rude, I said "ok just a minute im trying to get water for my aunt," I was told louder, I said sit down" so I said excuse me to my aunt so she could move her legs while still coughing, and sat, as soon as I was left alone I again went to a volunteer asking if I could get water as I used to consider that my home church I knew where most things were, I was told that "people need to learn how to bring their own water were not here to serve everyone, if we do one we have to do for all and that's not happening." I replied, "pardon me I thought this was a house of god where we are supposed to be polite and treat people especially our elderly with respect" the res ...
Worked at Hildegardt's food bank yesterday with my friend, Murray. Had a great time. Very eye opening. So many people in need of help. Interesting to see the emotions of the people receiving assistance. Some seemed a bit ungrateful, while the majority showed every emotion from extreme gratitude to extreme embarrassment...couldn't make eye contact. I am grateful there are places like this food pantry to help those in need! What a wonderful group of volunteers. Thank you to Mario Nathan Mothe for inviting us to help! It was nice to see Tom Shoemake there, too. I believe it does as much for the volunteers as it does for the recipients. So impressed by the dedication and love shown.

In Yesterday's News: Council on Aging expected to survive serious cuts Eryn Dion News Staff Writer — Despite several rounds of devastating cuts that have left her department without funding, Council on Aging Director Bethany Loveless is determined to keep the Scout Hall’s doors open and continue providing services to Templeton’s senior citizens. The first reduction came in January when the Board of Selectmen mandated a 5 percent slash to all department budgets, which for Ms. Loveless resulted in the loss of her Social Service Coordinator. “We knew we could make that cut without negatively impacting services,” she explained. “We thought if we were proactive, it would protect us.” When word reached her that the $505,000 override vote had failed at the ballot and massive cuts were necessary to keep the state at bay, Ms. Loveless brought a plan to the collaborative meetings between department heads and Town Administrator Bob Markel to iron out the necessary measures. Ultimately the Food Pantry . ...

Dear Karma Family: So today I was thinking about how much we need a building and we haven't had any luck getting help with building I have started thinking about trying to purchase one of those really cute storage sheds that look like little cabins and put it in my yard and set it up with an office and set up the food pantry and help to store and sort items.I have found a couple that are repo's and they are like $7000 which is really high but in 4 years Karma will own it.I have no intention of changing our policy on accepting cash donations or selling donations.but I have to raise the money each month to make the payment and sadly I can't afford to pay it myself...and this is where YOU GUYS come in.help me come up with some fun Fundraising ideas.:) (I had one that if I wore a bikini to wash cars that I would get more money to put my clothes on lol) so let's think of some other ideas LOL.I have started a blog that supposedly will pay me if I can find enough insane people to sit and read through my page o . ...
Super excited to receive this email today!!! "This email is to inform you that we were very impressed with Peyton's GoGive application and feel this trip will be a great fit for her." Peyton is going on her first mission trip to serve a church in south Dallas with middle schoolers from The Village Church. It's five days of hard work and sleeping on a hard floor in a sleeping bag. She had to fill out her own application and give her testimony. I never even got to see it. I'm so thankful to friends like Carol Niethammer Waldroup for giving her the love for serving in your in-law's food pantry and Mandy McKnight for nurturing this giving heart through NJHS. God is doing a wonderful work in her. So blessed!
Need a Boost? The Food Pantry received a donation of lots and lots of "Boost". Joyce Maynard, one of our church's Food Pantry reps, called and asked that the notice be sent out that if anyone is interested in some of this Boost to contact the Food Pantry (337-0375). The expiration date is sometime in June and there is too much to get rid of by then so they are contacting all the churches to spread the word.

There is no bigger tease than when someone in your family leaves an empty package of your favorite food in the pantry
When I was a little girl, my family didn't have much. Dad was working as a carpenter and going to night school, supporting his young family with what seemed a new baby every year. I don't remember many treasures but I do remember one of Mom's prized possessions. A little poem that she covered in scotch tape to protect. It hung inside the food pantry with a red thumbtack where she could read it several times a day. This is what it said: "God gave this child to you to guide, To love to walk through life beside. A little child so full of charms, to fill a pair of loving arms. God picked you out, because he knew, how safe His child would be with you." After Dad finished school and life got easier they accumulated a lot of stuff. Some stayed, some were given away. But the one thing that never went anywhere except to a new kitchen pantry was that poem, covered in ancient, dried out scotch tape with a red thumbtack. After my mom got her wings, I entered her warm kitchen for the last time. After cleaning out all ...

Bismillah. Have you ever met a real angel? A homeless man came up to our group (Muslims Giving Back) last night outside Madison Square Garden after we had finished giving out free platters of beans and rice, toiletries and socks. He asked us for socks. We felt sorry and told him we had already ran out. "No problem brothers. You know what's more important? 'Ihdina sirat al mustaqeem' (Arabic: "Guide us to the straight path" [Qur'an 1:6])" quoting the first chapter of the Qur'an and walking away, he left us all stunned. Reminded me of a Hadith (Islamic prophetic tradition), where the Prophet Muhammad, peace and blessings be upon him, encountered a stranger who approached him amongst his companions, inquiring about the faith. After the stranger had departed, the Prophet informed his companions, "Do you know who it was? It was Gabriel who came to teach you Islam". May God accept our work and allow this incident to motivate us all more. Please donate to your local NYC food pantry, Soup Kitchens and shelters. C ...

Looks like it's gonna be a great day to ROCC the 5K! "Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off every evil thing that hinders us and all the sin that so easily entangles, and let us run with perseverance the race that has been marked out for us." (Hebrews 12:1). Yeah, I thought I might do a run here in my old stomping grounds of Clemmons. I'm ready to roll in the ROCC 5K supporting the Clemmons Food Pantry. Of course a good wheelchair racer never gets very far without their "Pit Crew", so I'm thankful to have my girl, Tonya Ward and her son, Liam (aka Pit Crew Jr.) running alongside me making sure both me and my chair cross the finish line safely. Let's do this thing! Let's ROCC the 5K!

Remember: We have a Congregational Meeting at 9:40 in the Sanctuary on Sunday, May 4. There's also some other cool things happening on the lawn after each service: 1. Pick up Enchiladas you ordered from Bethany Inner City Church. 2. Our All God's Children Team will have a table on the lawn to let you know ways that you can help foster kids and orphans. One project we are working with is the ILP (Independent Living Program) high school graduation for foster children in Fresno. FPC is hosting a special spa day for the girls on June 20 from 1-4pm, and there are some great ways we can help make this happen. 3. Our High School Group is looking for ways they might serve the congregation. Have a project? See their Helping Tree Table! Also: It's the 1st Sunday of the Month, so bring your food donations for our Deacon's Food Pantry or your gently used items to donate to World Impact's Thrift Store.

I received a few inquiries about the Lakemore Food Pantry over the past week, so I'm going to explain a little about that here. I think that's the best way to get the word out and hope it answers most questions. The Lakemore Food Pantry is held at 6 pm on the last Wednesday of every month for Lakemore Village and Springfield Township residents. To sign up, please go to the lower parking lot door to Lakemore United Methodist Church anytime after 11:30 in the morning; the sign up sheet will be on the door at that time and throughout the remainder of the day. If you can't make it in the morning or anytime that day, you may still come to the church at 6:00 that evening when the door opens to the Fellowship Hall for the Food Pantry. Please bring a photo ID and a current piece of First Class Mail, postmarked within one month prior, that contains your name and current Lakemore Village/Springfield Township address. Please feel free to share this information with anyone who might be interested in coming to the Foo ...
Great morning at HGCS as one 5th grader's letter to president of Food Lion leads to over 10K food items to HG Food Pantry. The major philanthropic effort by Food Lion has its roots in a simple school assignment. Each year 5th grade students at HGCS are given a specific assignment to write a persuasive letter to an organization or person encouraging him/her to contribute to the student’s chosen cause. This year, Hickory Grove Christian School 5th-grader Jackson Denbroeder took this assignment to a new level. As Jackson thought about his assignment, he decided to write to Food Lion and ask the company to consider donating food and bottled water to the Food Pantry of Hickory Grove Baptist Church. Jackson never dreamed Food Lion would respond in such a remarkably generous way with a personal visit by grocery giant Food Lion’s new President Beth Newlands Campbell to Charlotte’s Hickory Grove Christian School on April 24, accompanied by a massive donation of 10,000 items for the Hickory Grove Baptist Chu ...

A wonderful post contributed from a Hebron parent: "Schools are community in small towns. There is really no distinction. To consider them as separate is denial of the interwoven fabric of Hebron. Empty Bowls raises money for the Food Pantry. Middle schoolers clean up the town during leadership week. School sports rally the town together and are one of few ways we see our neighbors during the isolating winter months. Music and drama productions help us bond together as parents. Some organizations use our facilities: Lions club Girl and Boy Scouts 4H Square Dancers Indiana Ballet Theater Some get more help from students and staff: Winterfest Circle the State with Song Some were founded by staff and students: Haunted House Fireworks 5k Some reach all around the state with generous fundraising by students and their families: Riley's Children's Hospital Ronald McDonald House Salvation Army Angel Tree Leukemia and Lymphoma Society Quite a lengthy list of how the fabric of being a neighbor is woven into our kid ...
Food Pantry at Zion Baptist Church in Rosman today from 12 until 2 pm. If you know anyone who could use a little help with groceries this week, send them our way!
Great day at the Food Pantry today. Nice people, plenty of volunteers, computers working. Praises from folks who are grateful for what we give them. Humble, "aw shucks" responses from our volunteers, who get such great joy from what we do. The abundance from the Christmas holidays is starting to disappear, though. Gaps on shelves; less variety; the beginning of the summer time when we have less to give. But the garden is planted! Thanks be to God for all the blessings we have!
