I tuned into my copy of the 2012 Champions League Final. You know, the one in which we beat Bayern Munich, in their own backyard, to win the trophy for the first time in our history. But one thing struck me, namely just how much the squad has changed. Take a look for yourselves:- Starting XI v Bayern • Petr CechJose Bosingwa (gone) • Gary Cahill • David Luiz (gone) • Ashley Cole (going) • John Obi MikelFrank Lampard (going) • Juan Mata (gone) • Ryan Bertrand • Salomon Kalou (gone) • Didier Drogba (gone) Subs v Bayern • Ross Turnbull (gone) • Paulo Ferreira (retired) • Michael Essien (gone) • Oriol Romeu • Florent Malouda (gone) • Daniel Sturridge (gone) • Fernando Torres Gone - 9 Retired - 1 Going - 2 Futures in doubt - Bertrand, Romeu, Mikel, Now that is some turnover considering the game was a little over 2 years ago! source : www.chelsea.vitalfootball.co.uk
This season we saw players come and go. Club heroes, lots of loanees, and players wanting to come in and make an impact. In this article, we will be talking about the departures and acquisitions Chelsea made both last summer and this past January. Paulo Ferreira – Despite not playing every week and struggling with injuries, Paulo Ferreira joined Chelsea in 2004 and stayed until this past season. With just a single goal scored against Blackburn, he’s recently become a forgotten man at Chelsea. This being said, he’s won it all with the club from Premier League to FA Cup to League Cup to Champions League. We now have to bid farewell to Paulo and wish him luck in his future. Florent Malouda – Where do you start with him? He’s been a vital key to Chelsea’s success since he joined the club in 2007. Playing as one of the best left wingers in the world for an extended period of time, he scored 35 goals with his gifted left foot for the club. He also appeared in the Champions League final against Munic ...
Florent Malouda is planning to terminate his contract at Turkish Super Lig side Trabzonspor to move to another league
THE HOME RUN We have 63 points after 28 matches. Except for 2006-07, we have never not won the title after accumulating 63 points from 28 matches. In fact, in 2009-10 we only had 61. We may not be the swashbuckling side fired by Florent Malouda and Didier Drogba and Carlo Ancelotti , but we're getting it done and getting it done more efficiently via best-in-class defending and scoring by committee. André Schürrle's hat trick made him the fifth Chelsea player to reach the five-goal checkpoint in the Premier League. There are ten matches left in the 2013-14 Barclays Premier League season. We have winnable and one away date at Anfield left. Look, we did beat Mancity and we have gone 13 undefeated. That says we are not that weak. Infact no team has gone that long without the L letter, yes including Liverpool itself. And if we start outscoring Mancity by one goal each match it's time to start believing. Picture: 2009-10 winners.

It wasn't rocket science. "We played very badly in the first half but very well in the second half, that's what we needed." -Andre Schurrle ; source:Chelsea FC The first half was atrocious. The second half was amazing. Clichéd as ever, but it once again was a game of two halves. "Maybe the first half was the period for them to take the lactate from their muscles because it is removed from your system with low intensity muscular activity, and because they were walking on the pitch or running slowly, maybe they were cleaning their muscles for the second half and were ready to do what they did. This was really what you call the game of two halves. The first half was very poor and the second half was brilliant." -Jose Mourinho ; source:Chelsea FC Most importantly,Chelsea got the three points at Craven Cottage, which, despite the lackluster first half showing, always looked in the bag after famed and annoying Chelsea-killer Clint Dempsey missed a somewhat easy header to put the hosts ahead just a few minutes ...

EUROPA LEAGUE JUVENTUS VS TRABZONSPOR KICK OFF AT 18.00 GMT FACTS JUVENTUS Chiellini is still sidelined, along with Vucinic, but Barzagli could return in place of Caceres at the back. Paul Pogba and Carlos Tevez were rested from kick off at the weekend and will return to the starting XI at the expense of Marchisio and Giovinco. Elsewhere the team is likely to remain unchanged from the 3-1 win over Chievo. TRABZONSPOR Florent Malouda and Souleymane Bamba are both sidelined and will miss the trip to Turin. New loan signing from Kasimpasa Özer Hurmaci should replace the former, with Demir and Yumlu set to start at the back. Roman Abramovich orders change in Chelsea transfer policy Billionaire Blues owner has demanded evolution not revolution during Mourinho's second spell as manager Roman Abramovich has ordered a change of transfer policy at Chelsea. It appears the days of the Russian billionaire owner funding big-money moves for players in the peak of their careers are long gone. The likes of Didier Drogba, Florent Malouda and Ricardo Carvalho were all in their mid-twenties when Jose Mourinho signed them in his first stint at the club. But times have changed and so has the club’s stance. With the pressures of financial fair play a factor to consider, young talents such as Eden Hazard, Oscar, Nemanja Matic and Mohamed Salah have been recruited at Stamford Bridge. Mourinho, back in SW6 for a second spell in charge, today revealed the club had made it compulsory for him to evolve the squad. Abramovich swept into west London with his chequebook in 2003. Back then it was a case of revolution not evolution though as £100millio ...

Adebayor gets his kicking boots back 36 minutes ago (Source: Mail and Guardian) Tottenham Hotspur striker Emmanuel Adebayor is finding the net again after a rough patch, returning more mature and in control of his emotions. Emmanuel Adebayor's residence in Ghana had some illustrious guests in June last year. Samuel Eto'o, Michael Ballack, Jay-Jay Okocha, Michael Essien, Florent Malouda and Djibril Cissé were among those who made the place their hangout. It is fair to say that good times were had. Either they went out or the party came to them. There was a daily feature at 5am. Adebayor would be going through the Insanity fitness programme he followed with his personal trainer. Insanity is an extreme workout from the United States and the name does it justice. One of Adebayor's non-footballing guests joked that the five-minute warm-down almost killed him. Adebayor was focused. The Tottenham Hotspur striker did not drink and he held it down on the party front. He swam lengths of the pool in the afternoons ...

On 21 August 2011, Valencia announced they had agreed a £23.5 million fee for the transfer of Mata to Premier League club Chelsea, subject to a medical.[19] [20][21] On 24 August 2011, Mata signed a five-year deal with Chelsea. He revealed that compatriot Fernando Torres helped persuade him to move to Stamford Bridge, saying "Fernando got me excited about the thought of coming here. He said it would be good for me here, and that me and him together could be good. I also talked to my family and friends about it as well." [22] On 26 August 2011, Yossi Benayoun offered Mata his number 10 shirt. The Israeli captain said, "I decided to give Mata the number 10 — his favourite. For me, it's just a number, not my lucky 15." (Florent Malouda wore number 15 for Chelsea at the time.) Mata wore number 10 for Valencia and for Spain's under-21s in the summer, and expressed his gratitude to Benayoun. "It is a very important number to me so I'm pleased to be wearing it. I want to thank Yossi," he said.[23] Mata follow ...
What you need to know about Matic 18 August 2009, Matić signed for Chelsea from MFK Košice for a fee of around £1.5 million in a four-year contract.[2] He was given the number 24 shirt by Chelsea but wasn't able to make his debut immediately due to the injury he picked up at the 2009 under-21 championships. He was on the bench for Chelsea's League Cup match against Queens Park Rangers on 23 September 2009, but did not take any part in the 1–0 victory. Matić made his Premier League debut for Chelsea on 21 November, coming on as a substitute for Florent Malouda in the 69th minute in a 4–0 win over Wolverhampton Wanderers.[3] On 23 August 2010, Matić transferred to Dutch Eredivisie club Vitesse on a one-year loan, together with teammates Slobodan Rajković and Matej Delač.[4] Benfica On 31 January 2011, Matić was transferred to Portuguese club Benfica along with €25 million (£21M) in a swap deal for Brazilian centre back David Luiz.[5] On 13 January 2013, Matić scored Benfica's first goal in a ...
A PROFILE OF CHELSEA TARGET Nemanja Matic As has been pointed out earlier, Matic used to be a Chelsea player. He joined Chelsea in the summer of 2009 from Slovakian club MFK Kosice for a fee of 1.5 million pounds. He wasn't immediately available to the squad, as he was suffering from a broken bone in his foot suffered on international duty. Behind Frank Lampard, Michael Essien, John Obi Mikel, Michael Ballack, Deco, Joe Cole, Yuri Zhirkov, Florent Malouda, and others in a loaded Chelsea midfield, opportunities for Matic to see the field in 2009 were rare. Chelsea held onto him for about18 months before allowing him to move to Benfica in the David Luiz deal. Nemanja Matic is a Serbian born central midfielder with a dominant left foot. He stands a bit over 194cm and weighs 82kg(source: whoscored.com) , and he's an exceptional athlete considering his size. His imposing physique stands him out but he compliments that with a tremendous workrate and precision. He is relatively fast for a man his size and his pa ...

the lack of a flare player such as florent Malouda is indeed a concern, peculiar positioning or not
no on to adapt is nothing particularly new here. I have been here five years and going back to Carlo Ancelotti's team playing with Florent Malouda and Nicolas Anelka playing behind Didier Drogba with three soldiers in midfield, Frank Lampard had to adapt and get out to defend against full-backs because Anelka wasn't asked to do that in the role he played. 'It changed with Andre Villas-Boas to 4-3-3 and Daniel Sturridge and Juan Mata had to chase the full-backs, and with Roberto Di Matteo that changed a little bit and Salomon Kalou and Ramires played wide. Mata played in the no. 10 role for the first time really at Chelsea. 'With Rafa Benitez it again changed a little, a bit more of a compromise. Oscar was asked then to play wide and Ramires, especially in the bigger games. When Juan's role was the no. 10 it was another adaptation that was required and he has shown here he is more than capable of doing that, and that will be the case this time.' Changing the identity of the team in terms of the way it goes ...

Farewell to four Blues Chelsea said goodbye to four players this week when the contracts of Paulo Ferreira, Florent Malouda, Ross Turnbull and Yossi Benayoun expired. Popular veteran Ferreira spent nine years with the Blues, after joining the club as a European champion from Porto in 2004. More silverware soon followed for the Portuguese full-back, winning the first of his three Premier League titles in his debut season. Malouda also claimed his fair share of medals during six years at Stamford Bridge, with his finest campaign arguably coming in 2009/10, when he helped us win our first domestic Double and was voted as Chelsea Players' Player of the Year. Goalkeeper Turnbull spent most of his time as Petr Cech's deputy, playing 19 games and being named on the bench for our successful Champions League and Europa League finals. Ferreira made 217 appearances in nine years with the Blues, playing a role in three Premier League title wins and the Champions League triumph of 2012. Benayoun arrived in the summer of 2010 as the replacement for Joe Cole but failed to command a regular place in the side, suffering with injuries and spending time on loan with Arsenal and West Ham. Malouda was lured from then-French champions Lyon in 2007 and won domestic and European honours at Stamford Bridge, but spent last season in exile training with the reserves. Turnbull was signed from Middlesbrough in 2009 as a backup goalkeeper to Petr Cech, and made just 19 appearances in four years in west London.

Bad times: Steve Sidwell is not fondly remembered at StamfordBridge Florent Malouda(27, Lyon £13.5m) His stay ended after a year of being marooned with the youth team, and there were periods where he was extremely poor. AFRICA TRIUMPH IN ESSIEN'S GAME OF HOPE The Africa XI beat the World XI 4-2 in an entertaining encounter at Michael Essien's Game of Hope and Inspiration in Ghana on Saturday afternoon. Chelsea were of course well represented, with appearances from Florent Malouda, Ricardo Carvalho, Michael Ballack, Geremi, Jody Morris and youngsters Jamal Blackman and Jeffrey Bruma as well as Essien, and it was the hosts who were celebrating at the end, having taken an early lead and rarely looking back. Marcel Desailly watched on from the African XI bench. Before the game, both sides emerged to warm up in blistering heat to a huge reception from the Ghanaian fans, drowning out the blaring music that would remain until kick-off, replaced then by the sound of various bands in the stands of the Accra Sports Stadium. Ballack addresses the crowd Seven players with Chelsea links began the game, and it was in his typical style that Carvalho almost opened the scoring, winning the ball deep before releasing it and continuing his ...

kalou wanted by big sam? West Ham United eye Chelsea cast-offs Florent Malouda and Salomon Kalou as they wait on Andy Carroll decision West Ham United are considering rescuing Florent Malouda’s Premier League career 10 months after the French international was exiled by Chelsea. The 33-year-old winger is available on a free transfer having been forced to play out the final year of his contract by training with Chelsea’s academy players. Malouda was ostracised after refusing to take a pay‑cut to leave Chelsea last summer and has not featured since the Champions League final against Bayern Munich in May 2012. Chelsea tried to force Malouda out and were angry that he would not leave despite offers from other clubs. It had been assumed that Malouda, who spent six years at Chelsea after signing for £13 million from Lyon, would move to Brazil but he has now been offered to West Ham. The London club must now weigh up whether he still has the desire to play in the top flight. Malouda is not the only player ...

France international Malouda, 32, last played for Chelsea in their 2012 Champions League final victory over Bayern Munich, but has since been frozen out of the first-team picture and so saw out the remaining season of his £80,000-a-week contract training with the under-21s. Former club Lyon, who sold him to Chelsea for £13million in 2007, looks the most likely destination. Defender Gallas leaves White Hart Lane on a free tra ...

The 32 year old winger decided to put his hard feelings towards the Blues behind him and bid Chelsea a happy and proud goodbye. Every good thing must come to an end, and even if I had to wait for a whole season at the club’s academy, I’m very proud of all my achievements as a Chelsea player. An assembled Africa XI led by Michael Essien defeated Michael Ballack's World XI 4-2 on Saturday in a charity match in Ghana. The game, organised by the Michael Essien Foundation and dubbed the 'Game of Inspiration and Hope' brought together stars including Ricardo Carvalho, Djibril Cisse, Michael Ballack, Florent Malouda, Emmanuel Eboue and Emmanuel Adebayor as part of a fundraising event in the nation. Essien netted a penalty early in the first half after Chelsea Under-20 goalkeeper Jamal Blackman felled Adebayor in the 18-yard box, before Malouda teed up Cisse to level the scores. Olympique de Marseille midfielder Andre Ayew quickly made an impact as a second-half substitute, delivering a well-aimed pass to former Netherlands international George Boateng who lobbed the ball over Blackman to make it 2-1, before Jay-Jay Okocha combined delightfully with Adebayor to score the game's fourth. Late goals from Haminu Dramani and Scott Smith ultimately settled an entertaining encounter in favour of Essien's si ...

Chelsea release eight players Chelsea news: Jose Mourinho has released eight players from his Blues squad Malouda rarely featured this season for Chelsea Chelsea have confirmed eight players have been released from their squad. Amongst the list are Henrique Hilario, Ross Turnbull, Paulo Ferreira, Florent Malouda and Yossi Benayoun. Also leaving are young trio Amin Affane, Archange Nkumu and Aziz Deen-Conteh, after failing to meet the required standards at youth and reserve level. Malouda has been cast out of the Chelsea team all year and forced to play with the reserves, so his release comes as no surprise to the player or the fans. Despite his decline in the last few seasons, the Frenchmen should still be remembered for his fantastic 2009/10 season that ended with Chelsea's first Premier League in four years. Paulo Ferreira is a fan favourite for his commitment to the club despite not seeing much playing time on the field. Mourinho reunited with Drogba as Ballack bows out... but will Dzeko and Jovetic be joining £20m new boy Schurrle at Chelsea? Jose Mourinho could be forgiven for feeling slightly nostalgic on Wednesday night. In a week when the Special One confirmed his return to Chelsea six years after his acrimonious departure, reminders of heady days gone by surrounded the 50-year-old. Mourinho took time out from his whirlwind week to manage a star-studded World XI in former Blues midfielder Michael Ballack’s testimonial at the Red Bull Arena in Leipzig, Germany. If Mourinho felt a slight sense of deja vu then it would have been justified, with his side including Ricardo Carvalho, Michael Essien, Florent Malouda, Andriy Shevchenko and Didier Drogba — all of whom played under the Portuguese manager during his trophy-laden stay in west London. Last night’s festivities provided Mourinho with a chance to take his foot off the gas after a non-stop 72 hours. But he met Bayer Leverkusen sporting director Rudi Voller, w ...

Florent Malouda confident he will play on following Chelsea departure
Florent Malouda is confident he can still find a club to play for at the top level following his departure from Chelsea.
Real deal Michael Essien is flying again after Jose Mourinho saved him at Madrid EXCLUSIVE: Player says he could do a job back at the Blues if ‘daddy’ wants him Madrid may have been the venue for a period that dented Jose Mourinho’s reputation but it may also be the place of Michael Essien’s resurrection. Mourinho’s return to Stamford Bridge has inevitably dominated the news agenda this week but it would be a significant boost to Chelsea’s Premier League title hopes were they able to welcome back another former great at the top of his game. Of course, technically, Essien never left. His season at Real was only a loan move but it began with serious doubts over the longevity of his Chelsea career thereafter. The 30-year-old’s recent campaigns have been ravaged by injury. In 2008, he tore the anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee and missed almost all of Luiz Felipe Scolari’s reign at the club. Two years later, while recovering from a hamstring injury on Africa Cup of Nations duty with ...

Inter want Malouda and Flamini Inter aim to reinforce their midfield with Chelsea benchwarmer Florent Malouda and Milan’s Mathieu Flamini. The arrival of Coach Walter Mazzarri means a complete revamp in the middle of the park and it will have a decidedly French feel. Tuttosport claim that the Nerazzurri are making a bid for Chelsea’s Malouda, who has barely featured this season due to a contract dispute. Another target is closer to home, as Flamini has been at Milan since 2008, but is out of contract next month. The Corriere dello Sport suggests Mazzarri requested the former Arsenal man, who could cross San Siro to join the Nerazzurri.
Cole, Makelele, Shevchenko... and Sidwell on the bench! The last team Mourinho fielded when he was in charge of Chelsea - but where are they now? With Jose Mourinho set to take over at Chelsea imminently, Sportsmail looks back at the final team he put out in his first spell at Stamford Bridge. They stuttered to a 1-1 draw with Norwegian side Rosenborg at home in the Champions League on September 18 2007 and within hours he had left the club by mutual consent. The side he had at his disposal tells a story - the likes of Steve Sidwell and Tal Ben-Haim made up the numbers - and leading the line? Andriy Shevchenko. But where are they now? GK: Petr Cech He's still Chelsea's No 1. Cech's never been as imperious as he was under Mourinho but had a fine season in 2011-12 and an even better one last year. Mourinho has a decision to make because Thibaut Courtois has been excelling on loan at Atletico Madrid, but he is likely to stay there for another season and Cech will keep the gloves. With goalkeeping coach Silvi ...

Chelsea Jose Mourinho will want to reconfigure the side as quickly as possible. He will have funds to do so. A defensive central midfielder is required to replace John Obi Mikel and free up Ramires. Inter and Napoli look set to fight it out for Chelsea’s Florent Malouda this summer. The Frenchman is out of contract at the end of June and is set to leave the Blues after six years with the club. According to Tuttosport, the 32-year-old winger has the choice of either Walter Mazzarri’s Inter or Rafa Benitez’s Napoli if he wants a move to Serie A. The Nerazzurri reportedly turned down the chance to sign Malouda in January, but have reconsidered as they look to add more experience and bodies to their forward line. Malouda’s last appearance for Chelsea came in a friendly against AC Milan in July 2012.

Honorable mention : Florent Malouda: Still an incredible guy One of the more unsettling things that has occurred in Chelsealand over the past twelve months has been the club's treatment of Florent Malouda after they failed to sell him ahead of the final year of his contract. Relegated to the youth team for his obstructionism, Malouda's been sidelined for the whole season, and although you can question the decisions that led the Frenchman to this confrontation with the club, it's difficult to find fault in how he's handled it. The Jamaica Gleaner sat down with the 32-year-old for a lengthy interview, and naturally touched on his difficult final season at Stamford Bridge: Football can be [tough], it's a business and coming from French Guiana I have been through many things, but I always stand for my principles and I don't bow to pressure. We have been talking about my career, but if I told you I managed all of this without a manager would you believe me? It's difficult not to respect a man who refuses to be ...
