Bill Self has had Andrew Wiggins, Joel Embiid, Josh Jackson, Frank Mason and Perry Ellis and failed to make the Final Four with any of them.
Bill Self after defeating Davidson to go to his first Final Four in 2008.
Why can't Illinois hold on to great coaches? For example Lon Kruger and Bill Self! Both will be in the Final Four this year!!! Figure it out
What do Bruce Weber, Bill Self and Lon Kruger have in common? Aside from each having a Final Four or two under their belts and being Big 12 coaches? Kruger (from itty bitty Silver Lake KS, btw) is the ONLY coach to Take Five different teams to the Show. but that's not it. Kruger was replaced at Ill by Self... who was replaced by Weber..
Getting Annoyed!(I know, you're shocked) I am reading over some threads, on many sites; where K.U. fans are mocking Wichita State for who they have played to get to 25-0. Let me be clear, University Of Kansas fans. You play in the Big 12(which can't even count right as it has 10 schools in it). The LAST TIME that anyone in your Conference was relevant, nationally; was Oklahoma A & M back in the 1940s. You do NOT play in the Atlantic Coast Conference, the old Big East, Big 10 or Southeastern Conference where MULTIPLE schools have won Championships. It's been almost 70 years, now(1945 & 1946). It's you and no one else. Stop pretending that the Big 12 is a "Basketball Conference." Let Wichita State(who was in a Final Four last year while you watched on TV) have a little time in the sun, for once. Thanks! P.S. If you are so good, tell Bill Self to get them on the schedule. UNTIL they are, just keep your yaps shut! OK, I'm Done!
Bill Self, if you have (potentially) the and 2 picks in the NBA draft & u don't make the Final Four... quit. Kansas, call John Calipari.
The Wichita State Shockers Men's Basketball team is now ranked 6th in the AP Poll!! I find it hilarious that KU will not agree to play them!! What's Bill Self afraid of, getting beat? LOL I hope WSU makes it to the Final Four and wins the BIG ONE!!
I am so excited about next year's team. Yet another major signing today, adding the missing piece - Senior leadership. This bio was in the Bleacher Report article as well: Since his arrival at Kansas (2003), Bill Self has amassed a coaching record of 300 wins and 59 losses, which is a winning percentage of .836. The Jayhawks have won nine consecutive regular season Big XII conference titles and six conference tournament titles. The span of 10 years since Self came to KU also includes 10 consecutive NCAA tournament appearances, with two Final Four visits and one National Championship (2008). Further, Kansas has had seven consensus All-American (college) players since 2005. The NBA is also littered with former Jayhawks. There are 15 players that have played for Self since he came to KU that have matriculated to the NBA, 10 of whom are on current NBA rosters. That number will swell by two, when recently departed sensation Ben McLemore and shot-blocking ace Jeff Withey are drafted in this year's draft as ex . ...
John Beilein is 9th coach in 14 years to reach title game in 1st Final Four trip. Only Bill Self won it all.
No Bill Self, no Duke and no blue face painted *** lords make this a great Final Four.
I know I've done this before, Toni Paulson Meyer, but here is maybe the first critical KU post you've seen from me. KU is trying to build momentum for a AP spot. And, those people are MORONS! KU is NOT the best team in the nation from what I've seen so far. They are good, probably even elite, but you cannot convince me they are currently the best team in the country right now. Their offense *** their guard play borders on inept, they don't finish their shots, and sloppy turnovers are killing them. These are all criteria a has solved by conference play. And, to top it all off the Big12 *** this year. If KU were a typical they would be winning all games by 10 -20 points AND scoring in the 90s with regularity. They simply are not there yet. So, to all those clamoring for a top spot.SHUT UP! Now, as usual, this will all change come tourney time. KU should be a more polished team, the young bucks will have a full season of conference road game under their belts, and Bill Self will have them play ...
Did you know? Every four-year player under Bill Self at KU has been part of at least one Final Four team.
John Gasaway's "bold prediction" on espn's CBB preview: Jeff Withey remains the most dominant defensive player in the nation but finally draws recognition as such, while also taking on a much larger load on offense. This sassy, new-look, "more aggressive" Withey leads the Jayhawks to the Final Four in Atlanta, where on Monday night Bill Self's team avenges the 2012 national title game with a win over Kentucky in the 2013 rematch. In the title game Withey records nine blocks, and the ubiquitous pun in headlines, on T-shirts, and possibly even from the PBP guy in the closing seconds will be "ROCK, CHALK, JAY-BLOCK!"
Jay Bilas FINAL FOUR Louisville Cardinals: Rick Pitino has depth, defense and a senior point guard with Final Four experience in Peyton Siva. The Cards had the nation's best defense a season ago, even with all of the injuries, but didn't shoot the ball well from the perimeter. This season's team has balance and will be much improved offensively. With healthy depth, Pitino can bring more heat on the defensive end, and do it full-court for a full 40 minutes. Indiana Hoosiers: The Hoosiers were among the best offensive teams in the country last season, and have the best big man in the nation in Cody Zeller. The addition of freshman Yogi Ferrell at point guard allows Jordan Hulls to concentrate on what he does best: shoot the ball. As Indiana builds a defense to match its offensive proficiency, Tom Crean will have a Final Four team. Kentucky Wildcats: The only question mark with this team is experience. John Calipari does not have a single player on his roster who has ever started a game for Kentucky. But he ...
Jayhawks poised for another Final Four run LAWRENCE, Kan. (AP) — Everybody seemed to be happy on the Kansas bench last season. Bill Self was certainly pleased with the way his team ran roughshod to an eighth straight Big 12 title. All his players were content, too, because they understood their roles, and that seven or eight of them were going to carry the load on a night-by-night basis. There could be quite a bit more discontent this season, at least early on, and Self believes that’s just as good as the positive vibes that enveloped the program last year. The reason? There are about a dozen guys who could be vying for playing time. “This year will be a little different,” Self conceded just a few days into preseason practice. “We’ll have some guys disappointed this year because they’re pretty good.” Pretty young, too. All-American Thomas Robinson left a year early for the NBA, and veteran guards Tyshawn Taylor and Connor Teahan have graduated. Stepping into their place will be nine freshm ...

If we did a revote of National COY now, I'd go w/ Bill Self. Heck of a job getting that team to the Final Four.
Kentucky tops Kansas 67-59 for NCAA men's title New Orleans (AP) — No matter where Anthony Davis and his buddies go to make their millions, their ol' Kentucky home will long remember this championship season. The Wildcats hit the jackpot with their lottery picks Monday night, ignoring Davis' bad shooting night and parlaying a roster full of NBA talent into a 67-59 victory over Kansas for the team's eighth national title — and its first since 1998. The one-and-doners did it in a wire-to-wire victory — a little dicey at the end — to cap a season in which anything less than bringing a title back to the Bluegrass State would have been a downer. They led coach John Calipari to his first title in four trips to the Final Four with three different schools. Doron Lamb, a sophomore with first-round-draft-pick possibilities, led the Wildcats (38-2) with 22 points, including back-to-back 3-pointers that put them up by 16 with 10 minutes left. The Jayhawks (32-7), kings of the comeback all season, fought to th ...
