Music News ! Paul McCartney calls study courses focusing on The Beatles 'ridiculous yet flattering' ! Paul McCartney has dubbed popular music study courses with a focus on The Beatles as "ridiculous, and yet very flattering". Taking part in a Q&A via his official website, the 72-year-old was responding to a query from a student studying for an MA in Popular Music that asked how he felt about the existence of such courses. "For me it's ridiculous, and yet very flattering," responded McCartney. "Ridiculous because we [The Beatles] never studied anything, we just loved our popular music: Elvis, Chuck Berry, Little Richard, Fats Domino, etc. And it wasn’t a case of 'studying' it. I think for us, we'd have felt it would have ruined it to study it. "We wanted to make our own minds up just by listening to it. So our study was listening. But to be told – as I was years ago now – that The Beatles were in my kid's history books? That was like 'What?! Unbelievable, man!' Can you imagine when we were at school, ...
HAPPY BIRTHDAY Irving Lee Dorsey December 24, 1924 – December 1, 1986 was a pop and R&B singer during the 1960s. His biggest hits were "Ya Ya" (1961) and "Working in the Coal Mine" (1966). Boxing as a lightweight in Portland in the early 1950s, he fought under the name Kid Chocolate and was reasonably successful. He retired from boxing in 1955 and returned to New Orleans, where he opened an auto repair business as well as singing in clubs at night. His first recording was "Lottie Mo", for the small Valiant label in 1958 (picked up by ABC Paramount in 1961), and he also recorded for the Rex label. These efforts were unsuccessful, but around 1960 he was discovered by A&R man Mars ...

Despite the outcome of the trial, the scandal would severely damage the group's career. 1961, James Brown, The Famous Flames, Sugar Pie DeSanto and The Brownies all appeared at The Evergreen Ballroom, Lacey, Washington. 1961, The Beatles appeared at Hambleton Hall, Huyton in Liverpool after returning to Liverpool from their first live performances in south England and London. The Beatles arrived so late for their appearance in Huyton that they only had time to play for 15 minutes. He is best remembered for his 1956 song "I Put a Spell on You." Hawkins sometimes used macabre props onstage, making him one of the few early shock rockers. Q: Did Elvis have some favorite artists or entertainers that he loved? And was he ever intimidated by any artists? A: Elvis loved to entertain and loved being entertained. He felt there was room for everyone. Anytime we were in Vegas we would go to the main showrooms and all the lounge acts that we could catch. Tom Jones, Barbra Streisand, Righteous Brothers, Nancy Sinatra, Dean Martin, Ann Margaret, Fats Domino, Sammy Davis Jr., and so many more. Whoever was in Vegas, he was the first one to sit, watch, and cheer them on. And when one of the guys would tell him who was appearing, they would ask if he wanted them to send flowers to the women. He'd say yes go ahead. He was such a gentleman and a true professional.
Terrance Simien & the Zydeco Experience Band Perform Free Outdoor Concert on Princeton’s Main Street July 6 One of the world’s great Zydeco artists, Terrrance Simien, and his Zydeco Experience Band will appear in a free downtown street party in Princeton (Il) on Sunday, July 6, from 2:30 to 5:30 p.m. Sponsored in part by Heartland Bank and Trust, Simien and his band will arrive in Princeton fresh from performances at the Mississippi Valley Blues Festival in Davenport and the American Music Festival in west suburban Chicago. An eighth generation Louisiana Creole, Simien received his second Grammy Award in January of this year. Although steeped in traditional Zydeco music – an upbeat blend of Cajun, Creole, blues, jazz and soul – Simien has extended his considerable vocal and instrumental talents to performing in all of these individual musical genres as well. He has collaborated with the likes of Fats Domino, Sarah Vaughn, and Randy Newman. Over 30 years, Simien and his band have performed over 7, ...
Boz Scaggs wrote this song with David Paich, who was also his co-writer on "Lowdown." In our 2013 interview with Scaggs, he talked about how the song came about: "'Lido' was a song that I'd been banging around. And I kind of stole... well, I didn't steal anything. I just took the idea of the shuffle. There was a song that Fats Domino did called 'The Fat Man' that had a kind of driving shuffle beat that I used to play on the piano, and I just started kind of singing along with it. Then I showed it to Paich and he helped me fill it out. It ended up being 'Lido Shuffle.'" The song is about a drifter looking for a big score. Scaggs and Paich were both very good at crafting songs with intriguing storylines using words and phrases that don't often show up in a lyric: "A tombstone bar," "makin' like a beeline..." The name Lido is very unusual as well. From the perspective of songcraft, it's very versatile, allowing the singer to get clear vocal sounds and follow with the "whoa-oh-oh-oh" hook. Kenny Loggins did s ...

New Orleans GREATS and the SOCIOPATHS This is a great example of how the sociopath works. Blacks did not know what whites were going to do with the proceeds that was generated by the filmed concert (DVD's for sale) featuring, Fats Domino and his music. The proceeds were to help the NINTH wARD housing(a Black section in N.O. where Fats lives) a section of the city that was decimated by Katrina. But first, let me give you the bigger picture, in the schools. Since Katrina, many of the veteran Black teachers, in Black schools, have been replaced by young, white, first year graduates, in those Black schools. The students are furious, and want their old teachers back. The students say that these young white teachers don't know nothing, and they don't know us, nor do they care to know us. The sociopath used a new program to get their foot in the schools, then proceeded to change the teachers as they were implementing the new program. The entire idea was to get jobs for these new teachers, and hard sell the p ...
I was gonna laugh but I bet that Fats Domino comp is actually pretty good
MY TOOT TOOT.Fats Domino. Originally recorded and sung by Rockin' Sydney. This great track is given the Fats Touch.
Rock Music in the Fifties: Decade Overview In the early 1950's new record technologies such as the 45 RPM single, the 33 and 1/3 RPM long playing album, 45 RPM jukeboxes, along with solid body electric guitars and electric bass guitars emerge. The rapid adaptation of these new technologies change the way people create and listen to music. An equally important convergence occurs in what people are listening to on the radio and jukeboxes, along with the records they are buying. White teenagers begin listening to and buying traditionally black music such as Rhythm & Blues. This cross-current of musical styles and influences - blues, boogie, jazz, gospel, R&B vocal groups, and country begins influencing the music created by both black and white musicians. The new music style is eventually given the name "Rock and Roll" by Cleveland, Ohio Disc Jockey Alan Freed. By 1953 and 1954 hit songs from the R&B Charts begin to cross over to the Top 40 Pop Charts, then dominated by more staid recording artists such as D ...
This is a postcard showing the old "Ballroom" that used to be on the very end of "The Pier" in Old Orchard Beach. Benny Goodman, Glenn Miller, Fats Domino and all those now famous "big bands" played here at one time or another. People would take the train out of the city to come up and play on the beach. So much history in this small beach resort town! :)
1. Quote of the day. 6 Jun. Rock 'n' roll is ridiculous. It's absurd. In the past, U2 was trying to duck that. Now we're wrapping our arms around it and giving it a great big kiss. - Bono. 2. I fought the law. 2003, A High court judge in London ruled that rap lyrics should be treated as a foreign language after admitting that he was unsure of the meaning of 'shizzle my nizzle' and 'mish mish man.' The court battle was over a copyright issue between the Ant'ill Mob and the Heartless Crew who had used the lyrics on a remix. 3. Who is it? Antoine Domino Jr. - Fats Domino.
Piano players: I was wondering if you could help a beginner out - I'm trying to learn 'Blueberry Hill' (Fats Domino's version); I managed to find video tutorials but different people claim that the song is in B flat or C Major, however, it sounds to me like it's in B. Additionally, no one seems to include the little intro solo or what notes are being rolled after the triplet section, anyone know the real deal?
Little Richard vs. Fats Domino...and your favorite 1957 singer is...Fats Domino!

Ok.. I have re-thought my plans to open a geriatric karaoke bar..not that I don't think it's still a good idea..it's just that I had always thought we would start about 2 in the afternoon and pretty much start shutting it down around 8:00pm. Still think that's a good plan, but I thought our music selection would be nothing older than the 40s or newer than the 70s. That's where my problem is. Just recorded AETN's 50s and 60s music. So, here's my problem..I think (hope) what they have on here is 70s because I really don't like the music. Starts out with Fats Domino and Bobby Darin..ok..I'm good..then we get into "wanna be the Beatles" groups..and what I think are "one hit wonders" I don't know who they are and don't like their music..here are the names.. The Gentrys The Kingsmen Manfred Man The McCoys Tommy James and the Shondells Wilson Pickett and Aretha Franklin (OK..I get them) The Foundations Steam So..I'm thinkin..no 70s..might look into the 30s..I'll get back to you.. Oh..and if you're about to tell ...
I had so much fun tonight dancing to the zydeco music of Chubby Carrier at City Park I didn't even take time to take pictures. He was really rockin'. I danced for 2 hours straight with several old friends and a number of new friends. I've probably had more fun than anyone there, except possibly about 30 eighth grade kids visiting from New Jersey. I led them in a second line to a Fats Domino song. I hope their chaperones know what they're up against, bringing school kids to New Orleans!
Huh, not bad. Does Fats Domino get a cut from this? - Drinking a Samuel Adams Blueberry Hill Lager -
