From Sky sports Newcastle skipper Fabricio Coloccini insists he has no desire to become the club’s new manager ahead of Alan Pardew's expected departure. The 33-year-old Argentina international was the bookmakers' early favourite when news of Crystal Palace's approach for Pardew emerged, although sources on Tyneside were swift to dismiss the speculation. But Coloccini has reiterated his intention to concentrate on his playing career, having first been linked with the post last year when Pardew found himself under intense scrutiny. Speaking after Newcastle's 3-3 draw with Burnley on New Year’s Day, he said: "I am a football player now and I want to play for a few years more. I want to enjoy being on the pitch. It's not for now." Assistant manager John Carver took charge of the team with Pardew in Birmingham where he watched Palace's goalless draw at Aston Villa. And Coloccini admitted that while it had been a tough few days for the players and staff at the club, Carver’s capabilities as a manager cou ...

Highlights: Newcastle United 2-1 Chelsea; Chelsea's 23-match unbeaten streak broken Dipankar Lahiri Dec 6 2014 32 Jose Mourinho’s Chelsea had not won in the last four attempts in St. James’ Park, and it was second-half Newcastle United substitute Papiss Cisse who ensured that the visitors were not lucky in the fifth attempt either. Chelsea’s 23-match unbeaten streak has been broken, and the Blues have managed only 1 point from their last 2 outings. Chelsea threatened several times in the first half, but inspired by the returning Fabricio Coloccini, Newcaslte United put up a spirited performance and seemed to grow in confidence as the half progressed. Gary Cahill’s header and Oscar’s shot went closest to the Newcastle goal, while Thibaut Courtois’s outstretched foot denied Jack Colback late in the first half. Papiss Cisse replaced Remy Cabella in the fray in the 53rd minute. Only four minutes later, he had ended a run of 498 minutes in all competitions since Chelsea had last co ...
THE BREAKDOWN :NEWCASTLE VS CHELSEA Newcastle United Team News: Arsenal and Manchester United claim most of the headlines when it comes to number of injuries, but Newcastle have had more than their fair share of troubles on that front as well. They currently count nine (10) players out, though Fabricio Coloccini is expected to be fit enough to be available for selection. The nine others who won't be include Tim Krul , Ryan Taylor (injured, AGAIN, sadface), Rolando Aarons , Sammy Ameobi (doubtful), Gabriel Obertan , Davide Santon , Siem De Jong, and Jonas Gutierrez (who's recovering from cancer treatment!). Alan Pardew's season got off to just about the worst possible start, but he and the team have recovered rather spectacularly, winning five straight at one point. The last two games have seen them slow back down a bit, gaining just one point and dropping down to 9th, level on points with Liverpool and Spurs. The numbers now read as such: 6 points ahead of second place, 6 points ahead of Manchester City ; ...

That's our best run since the 411 minutes that the team clocked up during April 2012 (which were all in the PL). Stoke beats Newcastle 1-0 in Premier League Peter Crouch headed in the only goal as Stoke beat Newcastle 1-0 for its first home victory of the season in the Premier League, ratcheting up the pressure on visiting manager Alan Pardew. Crouch rose above Fabricio Coloccini to head in a cross from Victor Moses in the 15th minute, which proved enough against a Newcastle side that struggled to create scoring chances and remained without a win this season. Moses was lively throughout at a rain-drenched Britannia Stadium and appealed unsuccessfully for a penalty when he was pushed down in the area by Yoan Gouffran shortly afterward. Substitute Marko Arnautovic hit the post for Stoke early in the second half. Jack Colback came closest to equalizing when he hit the crossbar from close range late on. Newcastle is second from bottom with three points from six games and has won only once in 14 top-flight games stretching back to last season, with 10 of those being losses. Stoke climbed to 11th place with eight points. ...

Loic Remy ended Newcastle United's goal drought with a stoppage-time strike as Aston Villa went down 1-0 at St James' Park. Remy had squandered a glorious chance moments earlier when he could only hit the post with the goal seemingly at his mercy, and it looked as though the Magpies were set to finish a fifth straight game without getting on the scoresheet. However, he made space for himself in the area in the 92nd minute to fire past Brad Guzan and give Newcastle a valuable victory. Newcastle went into the game having lost each of their last five fixtures in all competitions at St James' and with the club moving to deny that Alan Pardew's job was on the line if he did not remedy that situation against Villa. The initial signs were positive as a team strengthened significantly by the return of Fabricio Coloccini and Cheick Tiote from injury and Remy from suspension set about their task in determined fashion. Remy forced a second-minute save from Guzan with a well-struck effort and Papiss Cisse almost emba ...
Loic Remy, Fabricio Coloccini and Cheick Tiote return to the Newcastle starting line-up for Sunday's clash with Aston Villa
Hatem Ben Arfa is a doubt for Newcastle United’s home game against Aston Villa. Loic Remy returns after serving his 3 match ban, while Fabricio Coloccini and Cheick Tiote are also both back in the squad. Villa have no new injury worries.

Premier League: Chelsea (a) The Magpies return to London on Saturday looking to record an improbable fifth successive capital away win, after victories at QPR, Spurs, Palace and West Ham. Victory over Mourinho's mob would complete our first double of the season, following a 2-0 home win at SJP back in November. Kick-off at Stamford Bridge is at 3pm and all tickets for the away section have now been sold. NUFC: Not quite bare bones, but certainly a lean carcass of a squad, with Loic Remy (suspended) and Cheick Tiote, Fabricio Coloccini, Yoan Gouffran and Papiss Cisse (all injured) missing Saturday's game. Of those, Gouffran and Cisse have a chance of facing Spurs on Wednesday, with Tiote and Colo both predicted to be missing for at least three weeks. Colo last featured on New Years Day and has remained in Argentina since the club allowed him to return there last month. Of the fringe players, Gael Bigirimana is out and Gabriel Obertan doubtful, leaving the likes of Sylvain Marveaux and Dan Gosling to make u ...
Newcastle United skipper Fabricio Coloccini is sweating on his fitness ahead of the Magpies trip to Chelsea on Saturday.
The match at Norwich has got a bit lost in all the Cabaye fiasco but now the latest bad news is that a Yoan Gouffran injury will keep him out of tonight’s match. Alan Pardew yesterday confirmed that as well as Fabricio Coloccini continuing to be out, Papiss Cisse would also miss with a back injury. However, later it was revealed that 17 year old youth striker Adam Armstrong would travel to Norwich and then even later yesterday, the Chronicle’s Lee Ryder (see below) reported that an unspecified Gouffran injury would also see him almost certainly miss. This would obviously explain Armstrong’s addition to the squad – not exactly the best time to blood young players when things are a mess. So Cabaye is heading off, Jonas on loan, Colo and now Gouffran apparently injured, just as well we have got such a strong squad…
Norwich City (a) Having now returned from their warm weather training trip to Abu Dhabi, Newcastle are back in competitive action on Tuesday, visiting Carrow Road for a 7.45pm kick-off. Tickets remain on sale to NUFC ST holders and members. Like United, Chris Hughton's side exited from the FA Cup in the Third Round, losing a replay at Fulham, but didn't have any sunshine breaks to while away the time. That defeat averted the prospect of our visit to Norfolk being rescheduled at just two weeks' notice - City having appealed successfully to the Premier League to delay our visit by 24 hours had they reached the Fourth Round. Thankfully though, the Cottagers progressed. NUFC: Mathieu Debuchy is available after suspension, but Fabricio Coloccini remains sidelined through injury. Newcastle go looking for their seventh away league win of the season in their twelfth game on the road, having lost all five of the others and not drawn any. The six wins have all come on Saturdays, except for the Spurs success. The fi ...

VIP SINGLE WIN Newcastle - Manchester City 2 (1.70) With two consecutive Premier League losses, Newcastle have slipped down the table and are currently 8th with 33 points from 10 wins and three draws. They have also suffered a 1-2 loss in a FA Cup tie against Cardiff, which means the Magpies could lose four games in a row for the first time in just over a year. Alan Pardew has lost Fabricio Coloccini for the next few weeks and Mathieu Debuchy, who is serving a three-match ban, while Tim Krul is expected to return in goal and midfielder Yohan Cabaye looks to have overcome a recent injury. Newcastle are without a Premier League goal in 190 minutes since Papiss Cisse's 80th-minute penalty in the 5-1 win over Stoke. Scoring goals hasn't been a problem for Manchester City though, as six goals against West Ham on Wednesday took the City total to 92 from 31 games played this season. Manuel Pellegrini's side sits in 3rd place on the table, just two points shy of league-leaders Chelsea who have collected 46 points ...
Soccer Info England » Premier League 15:05 Newcastle Utd - Manchester City Newcastle United : Tim Krul and Yohan Cabaye both missed the FA Cup game with Cardiff and while the former should be fit to return Pardew may not want to risk the Frenchman.Fabricio Coloccini is likely to be out for another month at least due to a knee injury so Yanga-Mbiwa should start at the back.Mathieu Debuchy is suspended so Davide Santon could move over to right-back to allow Massadio Haidara to start on the left. Manchester City : David Silva is back available having been suspended for the trip to Swansea while Navas and Toure should both be fit enough to overcome knee and ankle problems respectively.Jack Rodwell, Stevan Jovetic and Sergio Aguero are all out through injury.Pellegrini could stick with a similar formation and line-up to the one that led City to a crushing 6-0 win over West Ham in midweek. Newcastle United manager Alan Pardew refuses to buy into the belief that injuries have left him requiring a new centre-half. It has been suggested that the Magpies should dip into the January market for defensive reinforcements after seeing Fabricio Coloccini ruled out for up to six weeks.
Newcastle United manager Alan Pardew has named a strong side for the Magpies' FA Cup third round tie against Cardiff at St. James' Park (3pm kick-off). There are seven changes from New Year's Day's defeat at West Brom, but it still includes seven full internationals from the off. Four of those changes are enforced, with Mathieu Debuchy suspended and Yohan Cabaye, Tim Krul and Fabricio Coloccini all injured, while Mike Williamson, Loic Remy and Shola Ameobi also drop out. Coming in are Rob Elliot, Steven Taylor, Mapou Yanga-Mbiwa, Massadio Haidara, Vurnon Anita, Hatem Ben Arfa and Papiss Cisse. United will line up in a 4-2-3-1 formation, with Elliot protected by a back four of Davide Santon, Taylor, Yanga-Mbiwa and Haidara. Captain-for-the-afternoon Cheick Tiote will patrol the engine room alongside Anita, with a trio of Ben Arfa, Moussa Sissoko and Yoan Gouffran just ahead of them. And Cisse will lead the line on his own as he looks for his third goal of the season in all competitions. On the substitutes' ...
Mathieu Debuchy and Fabricio Coloccini will be missing tomorrow. Yohan Cabaye has a knock and is also out Tim Krul is a doubt because of a minor knock probably won't be risked so in step Rob Elliot.
Fabricio Coloccini facing up to six weeks on sidelines with a medial ligament injury.
How Manchester United can sneak back into title contention The Red Devils are clearly in strife this season. When Wayne Rooney and Robin Van Persie aren't in excellent form, United seem just another average Premier League outfit. January could prove pivotal to their chances of European football, and even possibly, winning the title. Who they should target - Defensive midfielders and defenders Arturo Vidal, Luka Modric, Sami Khedira, Claudio Marchisio, Javi Martinez, Daniele De Rossi, Fabricio Coloccini, Ryan Shawcross, Nicolas Nkoulou and Phil Jagielka
*** Quinn: It's not fantasy to suggest Newcastle can finish in the top four Top six at Christmas is better than any of us could have dreamed, says Chronicle columnist *** Quinn Newcastle’s central defensive partnership of Fabricio Coloccini and Mike Williamson are providing reliable cover at the back Are we dreaming to think Newcastle United could finish this Premier League season in the top four? Probably. Would it surprise me if we managed to hang around the European places and at the very least could be involved come the final games of the season? Absolutely not. It’s not fantasy to suggest we could stay in there. We are a good side, verging on being a great one. It’s Christmas Day tomorrow and we are a top-six side, just six points off the top of the league, and that’s after a pretty poor start. That is brilliant. No wonder the fans are feeling good about themselves right now. I feel so good about the team that I lumped a bit of money on them to win at the weekend down at Crystal Palace. Bec . ...

United 0 Newcastle 1 Manchester United slipped to a second home defeat in four days as Yohan Cabaye's second-half goal gave Newcastle United their first win at Old Trafford since 1972. After an uneventful first period, United had started to pose Newcastle problems in the early stages of the second half when a swift counter-attack from the visitors culminated in Cabaye slotting home Moussa Sissoko's pull-back. David Moyes made seven changes to the side beaten by Everton on Wednesday, with Robin Van Persie the most notable returnee, coming in for the suspended Wayne Rooney. The Dutchman was given little room to shine, however, in an attritional first period completely at odds with the traditionally open, exciting fare this fixture is renowned for. Any United forays - usually conducted through the lively Adnan Januzaj - met their end at the obdurate defensive work of the visitors, with Mike Williamson and Fabricio Coloccini immovable. Newcastle's noteworthy efforts were condensed into two Mathieu Debuchy cha ...
2-1 scored his eighth goal in as many matches as recorded a 2-1 victory over France international put the hosts ahead inside two minutes, before compatriot Yoan Gouffran scored a second before the break. Leroy Fer pulled a goal back for the visitors 10 minutes from time, but it was too little too late for Chris Hughton's men. Newcastle have now won three consecutive Barclays Premier League fixtures for the first time in 19 months, while Norwich have just one victory from their last six matches. Alan Pardew made one change from the side that beat Tottenham Hotspur 1-0 prior to the international break, with Fabricio Coloccini coming in for the suspended Mathieu Debuchy. Former Newcastle manager Hughton, meanwhile, made two changes to the Norwich XI that won 3-1 against West Ham United last time out, with Bradley Johnson and Nathan Redmond replacing Robert Snodgrass and Johan Elmander. It did not take long for the hosts to break the deadlock, as a second-minute Yohan Cabaye corner evaded the Norwich defence ...
UNITED STILL PLOTTING RONALDO RETURN The Sun have taken some fairly flimsy quotes from David Moyes about Cristiano Ronaldo and used them as a back page story suggesting that the forward could be on his way back to Manchester. 'I STILL WANT RON' is The Sun's headline, with Neil Custis claiming: 'David Moyes says Cristiano Ronaldo could return to Manchester United. 'He came close this summer to buying back the Portuguese star sold to Real Madrid for £80million in 2009.' Here's what Moyes actually had to say on Ronaldo, so we'll let you make up your own minds on The Sun's story: "Everyone at Manchester United would tell you he is the best in the business anyway," he told MUTV. "I have not been fortunate enough to work with him but there is still hope some day it might be possible." So Moyes 'hopes that some day it might be possible'. Wow. Get the champagne ready, Ronny's coming home. COLOCCINI WANTS ARGENTINA RETURN This again. After angling for a move back to Argentina earlier this year, Fabricio Coloccini ...

On his return to Tyneside, having helped France qualify for the World Cup, Yohan Cabaye spoke exclusively to nufc.co.uk By Anthony Marshall - Newcastle United Managing Editor Yohan Cabaye believes the Magpies' World Cup-bound stars will not only be representing their respective nations in Brazil next summer, but also Newcastle United. Earlier this week, Cabaye and club teammate MathieuDebuchy were instrumental as France overturned a 2-0 qualifying play-off first-leg deficit against Ukraine to book their place in the 2014 finals. Alongside them in the triumphant Les Bleus' squad were Moussa Sissoko and Loic Remy , while Cheick Tiote 's Ivory Coast and Shola Ameobi 's Nigeria also secured World Cup spots through the play-off system. Already qualified were goalkeeper Tim Krul , with Holland, and Argentine defender Fabricio Coloccini . With the likes of Mapou Yanga-Mbiwa, Yoan Gouffran , Hatem Ben Arfa , Davide Santon and Vurnon Anitaall sure to be pushing for places for their respective nations, United could ...

Alan Pardew has told Fabricio Coloccini he has to fight to regain his first team place. I think he's exactly right, Willo and Mbiwa look like they're forming a solid partnership at the back and are performing really well. /Chris

Tottenham v Newcastle (1200 GMT) Tottenham have named 42-year-old Brad Friedel in goal despite manager Andre Villas-Boas stating that Hugo Lloris would be fit to start. The Portuguese boss has made three other changes from the side that drew at Everton, with Christian Eriksen back in the starting XI. Newcastle are unchanged from the side that defeated Chelsea last weekend, with defender Fabricio Coloccini on the bench after recovering from a groin injury. Spurs: Friedel, Walker, Dawson, Chiriches, Vertonghen, Paulinho, Dembele, Townsend, Eriksen, Sigurdsson, Soldado. Subs: Gomes, Kaboul, Lennon, Lamela, Holtby, Defoe, Sandro. Newcastle: Krul, Debuchy, Williamson, Yanga-Mbiwa, Santon, Tiote, Cabaye, Remy, Sissoko, Gouffran, Shola Ameobi. Subs: Coloccini, Anita, Cisse, Ben Arfa, Elliot, Obertan, Sammy Ameobi. Fabricio Coloccini is expected to return to Newcastle United’s starting line-up against Tottenham Hotspur tomorrow. The Argentinian’s comeback – after a month out with a thigh injury – leaves Alan Pardew with a selection headache in his back four.Indeed, Pardew must decide whether he axes either Mike Williamson, who dealt with both Fernando Torres and Samuel Eto’o in superb fashion against Chelsea to win many plaudits from pundits and fans alike, or Mapou Yanga-Mbiwa, with the Frenchman going into the game having regained confidence after recent displays. But Pardew says he is delighted the Magpies have at least shown they can cope without the South American. He said: “It is the first time we have lost Colo and looked more comfortable than when he’s been out in the past.“That is a big boost for us as a group.“When you lose a player and you can’t cope it affects everybody else.“We have proved we can cope without him and Cabaye and anybody because it is about the team.“It shows we are ...
Football News; Newcastle skipper Fabricio Coloccini is unlikely to make his comeback on Saturday as he continues his recovery from injury. The Argentina international is back in training after a groin problem but has no football under his belt, while fellow central defender Steven Taylor, who suffered a recurrence of a hamstring injury in training last week, is still some way from returning. Left-back Paul Dummett, who partnered Mike Williamson at Sunderland, is also out with a hamstring strain, meaning Williamson and Mapou Yanga-Mbiwa are likely to pair up, as they did in midweek for the League Cup tie against Manchester City. Chelsea have no fresh injury or suspension concerns to contend with, but will make sweeping changes to the side which overcame Arsenal on Tuesday. With Marco van Ginkel the only absentee at present, with knee ligament damage, Mourinho may opt to alter his entire starting XI - such is the Blues' strength in depth. Juan Mata will be hoping he did enough at Emirates Stadium to retain ...
Newcastle v Chelsea, 12:45 Although Newcastle are a strong, confident black and white club who don’t need no man (sorry) this has been a demoralising week for the Magpies, with a loss to Sunderland being followed by a close game with City in which the 2012 Champions arguably were outplayed but still managed to get the win. The visit of Chelsea is hardly a chance to get back on track, but on the other hand it represents a game Pardew can lose without losing face and can win (or even draw) to great acclaim. Ladbrokes have 9/10 on both teams to score, and I’d take the 13/5 on Chelsea by one goal at a pinch. Newcastle most likely again be missing Steven Taylor and Fabricio Coloccini in defence, with the added problem that Paul Dummett is also unavailable because of a hamstring problem. Chelsea are likely to rotate after several fringe players took their chance in the win over Arsenal. Fulham v Manchester United, 15:00 Given that Fulham have one of the more exciting attacking combinations in the league, ab ...
Football News; Pardew's hunger for a cup run will not stop him tinkering with his starting XI. With a league match against title hopefuls Chelsea following on Saturday, he plans to freshen up his side against City. Cheick Tiote will start as captain, just two days after being given a seven-month suspended prison sentence for possession of a fake driving licence. Fabricio Coloccini (groin) and Steven Taylor (hamstring) are out, but Mapou Yanga-Mbiwa is available again following his one-match suspension. Manager Manuel Pellegrini is expected to make a number of changes with Premier League and Champions League games in mind. Under-fire goalkeeper Joe Hart is expected to be one of the players to make way while striker Stevan Jovetic, who scored twice against Wigan in round three but has not started since, is likely to get another opportunity. English trio Micah Richards, Joleon Lescott and James Milner are also prime candidates to play. Captain Vincent Kompany (groin) remains a fitness doubt but fellow defend ...
Mackems v The Lads!! Early Team News!! With Steven Taylor and Fabricio Coloccini rated doubtful plus Mapou Yanga-Mbiwa serving a one match suspension for a professional foul against Liverpool last week, it's safe to say that there are a lot of decisions still to be made ahead of the 149th Wear/Tyne derby. The form of Mike Williamson and the emerging talent of young Paul Dummett make it just short of crisis proportions in central defence, although the lack of strengthening here is still a sore point. On finishing with the negatives, we have pretty much a full squad to choose from apart from the long term injury to Ryan Taylor. Jonas Gutierrez misses out again due to his personal issue back home in Argentina and Massidio Haidara works on his fitness after his early season setback. The starting line up (in my opinion) will be close to the one that started the game against Liverpool but with one of Taylor, Colo or Dummett replacing Mbiwa. I expect the same sort of false number 9 formation although id swop Rem ...
Steven Taylor and Fabricio Coloccini near return for Newcastle United ahead of Sunderland derby
Fabricio Coloccini closing in on comeback
Newcastle have been dealt a major blow with the news that captain Fabricio Coloccini is facing an eight-week absence. The 31-year-old central defender damaged his groin during training on international duty with Argentina last week. He did not play in his country’s first World Cup qualifier against Peru, a 3-1 victory, and was sent back to Tyneside before Argentina’s defeat to Uruguay. The injury meant he missed Newcastle’s 2-2 draw with Liverpool at the weekend and the severity has meant he has been sent back to his homeland to recover. It is now thought serious enough to rule him out for the majority of 2013, with the defender not expected to play for the club until Christmas. That could mean Alan Pardew is without his defensive lynchpin for around 10 games. The injury is compounded by the fact that fellow defender Mapou Yanga-Mbiwa is suspended after being sent off against Liverpool for fouling Luis Suarez, apart from the fact that he has also struggled for form this season. Yanga-Mbiwa was subst ...
Manchester City trio of Vincent Kompany, Martin Demichelis and Jack Rodwell are set to miss City's Champions League trip to Russia to face CSKA Moscow. Borussia Dortmund head coach Jürgen Klopp believes Arsenal are favourites to win their UEFA Champions League clash on Tuesday in London. Arsene Wenger has confirmed Mathieu Flamini will miss the Champions League clash with Borussia Dortmund on Tuesday. Flamini suffered a concussion in Saturday's 4-1 Premier League win over Norwich. Marseille are yet to register a point in the UEFA Champions League but head coach Elie Baup still believes they can qualify for the last 16. Fabricio Coloccini is out of this weekend's Tyne-Wear derby. Alan Pardew has wasted no time in ruling out the Argentine defender and will instead look to Steven Taylor to fill the void left by Mapou Yanga-Mbiwa following his red card against Liverpool. Mark Hughes will make another bid to sign former Manchester United striker Mame Biram Diouf in the January transfer window West Hammanager ...

Premier League TEAM NEWS Newcastle v Liverpool (Saturday, 1245 BST) Newcastle captain Fabricio Coloccini is sidelined by a muscle injury, while winger Jonas Gutierrez is ruled out because of personal reasons. However, Loic Remy, Moussa Sissoko, Mathieu Debuchy and Yohan Cabaye came back from international duty unscathed. Liverpool full-back Glen Johnson has returned to training after an ankle injury and could feature on Saturday. Aly Cissokho should also be available, while Joe Allen and Philippe Coutinho are nearing comebacks. Live commentary of this match will be on BBC Radio 5 live from 1245 BST on Saturday. Chelsea v Cardiff (Saturday 1500 BST) Cardiff City boss Malky Mackay insists former head of recruitment Iain Moody's departure from Cardiff was not down to a transfer budget overspend. Moody, who had worked with Mackay at Watford, has been replaced by with 23-year-old Kazakhstani Alisher Apsalyamov on an interim basis. Mackay said: "Iain is an absolute class act as far as I am concerned. In one of ...
Alan Pardew has confirmed that defender Fabricio Coloccini will not take part for Newcastle this weekend due to a groin strain he picked up on International duty.
Two different Newcastle sides were on display at Goodison Park on Monday night as a first half horror show almost turned into a memorable second half comeback. However, three awful goals conceded before the break were enough to seal United's fate - although the Toffees almost came unstuck when Yohan Cabaye and Loic Remy both netted to threaten an unlikely comeback. Cabaye had been left on the bench by Alan Pardew due to fitness concerns, United lining up in a 4-5-1 formation headed by sole striker Remy and with Cheick Tiote and Yoan Gouffran included. Papiss Cisse was also a sub. That safety-first approach though translated into an open invitation for Everton to swarm forward unmolested and Romelu Lukaku rounded off a swift counter attack on five minutes by hammering the ball past Tim Krul. Further pathetic defending allowed the on-loan striker to rampage forward and he set up Ross Barkley to notch a second before latching on to Tim Howard's upfield punt to embarrassingly elude Fabricio Coloccini and Krul ...

Interesting read! Newcastle fans should have been feeling quietly smug and optimistic this week. Andy Carroll moved to West Ham for £15million reminding them of the £20m they mugged Liverpool for, plus some of the decent players that cash bought due to the astute scouting of Graham Carr. Captain Fabricio Coloccini announced he was staying and the fixture list handed them four winnable ties against Fulham, West Ham, Aston Villa and Hull in their first five games. But instead, that Joe Kinnear bomb was dropped on them, and in the words of Alan Shearer, the club resumed its laughing stock status and the fans felt like throwing up. “Why?” was the question on the lips of everyone outside Mike Ashley (and Mackems whose lips are unable to form words just laughter). Why would you rip apart the structure of a club, which a year ago sat one place outside the top four, by recruiting a divisive throwback like Kinnear? Especially when his only job in the past nine years was a four-month stint as Newcastle manage ...
