LAS VEGAS: Don't forget, tomorrow (Tuesday, Sept. 16th) The Animal Foundation will be going in front of the County Commissioners to ask for funding for their costly construction project. TAF ended the year last year with nearly $1.4 million in profit, why should our tax dollars be spent on a project that even TAF's own Executive Director claims will NOT guarantee to lower their abysmal 53% kill rate (see video)? If this project gets approved tomorrow it could spell disaster as it could further secure TAF's contract. We must stop them! Nothing will change unless we, as a community, take action and speak up. For the sake of my animals friends please be there. We estimate that they will not get to The Animal Foundation item until 11am, but we encourage everyone to arrive as close to 9am as possible so you don't miss it. Thanks and big licks! RSVP here:

Google 'Enron and AGW'. Lots of interesting reading... joined by BP, invented the global warming industry. I know because I was in the room. This was during my storied three-week or so stint as Director of Federal Government Relations for Enron in the spring of 1997, back when Enron was everyone’s darling in Washington. It proved to be an eye-opening experience that didn’t last much beyond my expressing concern about this agenda of using the state to rob Peter, paying Paul, drawing Paul’s enthusiastic support." Global Warming Scam Survived It's Bankruptcy "Enron owed part of its early success to emissions trading. Basically emissions trading was established as a way for some companies to profit from pollution while allowing some companies to continue to produce the chemicals that can cause acid rain. Lawrence Solomon, executive director of Energy Probe and Urban Renaissance Institute, is reporting that Enron played a major role in pushing the global warming scam, including establishing the Kyoto Pro ...

From the Ketchikan Daily News: Forum debates AK pot measure FAIRBANKS (AP) — Both sides of the marijuana debate presented their views at a Fairbanks forum this week on a ballot measure to legalize and regulate recreational pot in Alaska. The Coalition for Responsible Cannabis Legislation and the opposition group — Big Marijuana. Big Mistake. — met at the Noel Wien Library on Tuesday night for the event hosted by the League of Women Voters of Tanana Valley, the Fairbanks Daily News-Miner reported. The initiative, Measure 2, is on the Nov. 4 general election ballot. Proponents of legalizing marijuana say it would improve the state’s judicial and criminal system with fewer arrests of nonviolent offenders and provide a tax-revenue boost. Supporters also said there are comparatively minimal health impacts compared to alcohol. Brandon Emmett, executive director of the advocacy group, said marijuana would be legal only for people 21 and older, under the initiative. He said parents would need to talk to t ...
Opportunity to do some good tonight WHAT: Fundraiser for Shelter From The Storm, a network of safe houses for domestic violence victims WHERE: Babe's BBQ and Brewhouse at The River 71-800 Highway 111 Ste A 176 Rancho Mirage, CA. 92270 WHEN: TODAY, Sept 11th, 3-7 pm WHO: KMIR, Team 1010, Julie Buehler and Geoff Bloom of "Buehler's Day Off" and YOU!! WHY: Sept 11th, 2001 taught us a lot. Perhaps most importantly, that we need to know who our neighbors are and help them whenever we can. We all know domestic violence is a massive issue, but it required an elevator video to splash across our national consciousness and wake us all up to the destruction of it. And while the NFL remains under investigation and many wonder what will come of Roger Goodell, it's my personal plea that we seek to educate our community in how each person can do their part so a blind eye is never turned to domestic violence ESPECIALLY from those making millions as a celebrity or athlete in the public eye. And tonight, the Baltimore Rave ...

Fellow Lover of Liberty, Good news! ALPAC Citizen Activists have sent 7,434 Citizen Demands to the U.S. Senate DEMANDING that action is taken on Term Limits! I'm sure you've seen my previous letters to you on this important legislation. Now, it seems there's a growing body of Americans who share our concern and are getting behind this vitally important Constitutional issue. Rand Paul is one of those Americans. I hope you are too. For today I want to ask you to TAKE ACTION (again!) and write to your Senators. ( Count me in) I want you to tell them to support a very special Joint Resolution that's been proposed in the Senate. One that will amend the Constitution -- and will end the sense of political privilege that's endemic in Washington, D.C.(No touching the Constitution.) From his vantage point, Rand Paul can see that when Congressmen and Senators go to Washington all too many get hooked on the thrill of power. After a while they start to represent the Establishment -- not the Electorate. From there it's ...

FAA: Unresponsive plane crashes off the coast of Jamaica via CNN A small plane flew for hours unresponsive from Rochester, New York, southward before crashing Friday off the coast of Jamaica, the Federal Aviation Administration said. The pilot of the single-engine Daher-Socata aircraft -- which had taken off from Rochester destined for Naples, Florida -- stopped responding to radio calls at about 10 a.m. ET, according to the FAA. By 11:30 a.m., two U.S. fighter jets had been dispatched under the direction of NORAD to go after the aircraft, State Department spokeswoman Marie Harf said. The F-15 pilots could see, before the small plane's windows frosted, and a pilot slumped over, according to a NORAD official. The official said one or two other people were believed to be on board, though the number was not confirmed. The U.S. planes broke off before reaching Cuban airspace 12 miles off the island's coast, NORAD said. The plane was then cruising at about 25,000 feet. A Cuban fighter jet was later sent to tra ...
Courtesy Sister Shabnam Hashmi - Indian Muslims Condemn the Brutal Atrocities by ISIS against Minorities in Iraq and Syria; denounce religious intolerance, persecution and violence in the name of Islam Indian Muslims are shocked and pained by the brutality and atrocities being perpetrated by the ISIS (Islamic State of Syria and Iraq) against Christians, Shias, Kurds, Yazidis and other minorities in the regions now under their control. We strongly condemn such barbarism which is against the teachings of Islam. We express our heart-felt sympathies and solidarity with the survivors of those whose near and dear ones have been mercilessly butchered, and the tens of thousands of Iraq’s minorities who have been dispossessed, forced to flee their homes and are now living in extremely difficult circumstances. The barbaric conduct of the ISIS is all the more reprehensible because its leader, Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi, proclaims to be the ‘Caliph’ of the entire Muslim world and his armed group are supposedly acting ...

"A good example is the best sermon" - Poor Richards Almanack 1747 When are we, as a society, going to start helping each other and stop "outsourcing" the solution to other entities such as the Gov't to solve our problems? We need care for one another and help one another just as God tells us to do in Isaiah 58. Verse 7 says it best, "Is it not to share your bread with the hungry, and bring the homeless poor into your house; when you see the naked, to cover them, and not to hide yourself from your own kin?". The most important line in that verse is the last "and not hide yourself from your own kin?" The solution begins with each one of us and those in our family, the solution doesn't begin with lawmakers. It begins with caregivers, like you and me. Founding father Benjamin Franklin believed that we should all volunteer in a spirit of cooperation for the greater good of society. Why not follow his lead of civic duty, community and in our own nation and start solving issues with our own volunteerism? Look in ...

There is truly only one reason for my decision - I am unable to give the full time and attention required to be an excellent Chamber Director to this organization. This Chamber needs a Full Time Executive Director to perform all the duties required by this position. I will stay a member of the Chamber, and I hope, actively involved in assisting this organization. Thank you for giving me the honor of being your Executive Director. I truly wish you all success and health in the coming months and will see you all soon! Susan

As you are all aware, resident of Kimble County began experiencing frequent (almost daily) issues/outages with their cell phone service provided either thru AT&T or other carriers that use the AT&T towers to relay signals, in early March 2014, if not before. As not only a consumer of these services, but the Executive Director of the Kimble County Chamber of Commerce & Junction Visitor Information, this is very disturbing and inconveniencing to me. I have worked many hours and days with Kraig Anderson, Corporate Sales Manager for West Central Wireless and he is to be commended for his tireless dedication and determination in trying to help us find a solution to our ongoing problem. The employees of our local West Central Wireless office, as well as those in the Kerrville office have also worked to help us. We are very grateful for their help and this email is in NO WAY to be construed as a complaint against West Central Wireless or their staff – they are great!!! 3rd Party Candidates Could Tip Senate Races A pizza deliveryman in North Carolina, a "libertarian cop" in Kentucky and an Alaska candidate - but not the one who was expected - hope to do what a Kansas businessman did this week: shake up Senate races as third-party candidates, an often-dismissed lot. Greg Orman isn't a household name, but he's getting attention now. The independent Senate candidate in Kansas fared so well in his third-party bid to unseat three-term Republican Sen. Pat Roberts that the Democrat in the race, Chad Taylor, abruptly canceled his candidacy on Wednesday. With that, conservative Kansas landed on the list of conceivable, if improbable, Democratic gains in the national battle for Senate control. Republicans must pick up six seats in November to win the majority, and the new uncertainty over Roberts' fate complicates their drive. Kansas Republicans, worried about Orman possibly consolidating anti-Roberts sentiment, challenged the legality of Taylor's withdrawal. The Kansas secretary ...

THIS MORNING COFFEE ON THE BALCONY. .Birds milled above. Like a dance, they spread out and collapsed in on themselves again, flying against each other willy nilly, very very fast, over and over again.. The flock wasn't huge - perhaps. 400 at most. Nothing could have distracted my gaze. I didn't dare look away to steal even a sip of my fresh, strong coffee. For an hour the small black birds spread to an unseen perimeter, disappeared into the atmosphere, and reappeared like emerging forces to mill again - an intricate sword dance in which not one collision happened. Mesmerizing, the chaos took on meaning as a pattern became plain. But plain what, or how? .Was it a contest in endurance, perhaps, I wondered, as the lone strongest bird of all might be the last one flying, ready to lead the southward migration? Were they playing, flying complex thermal air-rushes that dictated when to flap and when to glide? A precision practise and endurance buildup for looming migration across the vast American continent? .I ...

In an effort to showcase the very best in American comedy in Jamestown, Joan Rivers joined us to celebrate the 100th anniversary of Lucille Ball’s birth date in the most fitting way possible; laughter. She gave an unforgettable performance and embodied what it means to be a true entertainer: She gave everything she had to the audience. Her presence has been a key factor in the realization of Lucille Ball’s wish for her hometown: to celebrate and honor the best in comedy. Like Lucy, Joan changed the face of comedy for women on TV. Her performances on Ed Sullivan and Johnny Carson as early as 1965 were groundbreaking. Our deepest condolences go to her loved ones and to the innumerable fans and comedians she inspired. As with the recent loss of so many of our comedy legends, we will continue to celebrate Joan’s unique talents so that her legacy lives on for generations to come. - Journey Gunderson, Executive Director, Lucille Ball Desi Arnaz Museum & Center for Comedy and National Comedy Center, Inc.
Dateline: Minneapolis,MN Why I am not a democrat (or republican) I witnessed a revealing presentation by US Senator (D. MN)Al Franken last Saturday. Franken was a comedian and a radio host before becoming a senator, but strangely when he stood before about 40 to 50 primarily black people in north Minneapolis he was strangely dull and uninspiring and when questions were tossed his way by the audience, he was totally befuddled. But it dawned me, of course he is dull and uninspiring and befuddled he like the Democratic party has got nothing to offer us everyday people. Franken got exposed, of course he has no answer to the questions put to him by sister Roxanne about what he was going to do to end the “War on Drugs”. Of course he couldn’t say how his lame idea to push early childhood education was going to work. The best part was when Neighborhoods Organizing for Change (NOC) Executive Director tried to run on stage and rescue him by saying to the crowd, “the senator is going to go to Washington and ...

Plans are afoot to kick Budalang’i MP Ababu Namwamba and ODM executive director Magerer Langat out of the party, according to sources. The sources disclosed that MPs allied to Mr Raila Odinga planned to petition the party’s Parliamentary Group to kick out the two youthful politicians for their perceived dalliance with the Jubilee Coalition. Accusations have piled up against Mr Namwamba and Mr Langat since Mr Odinga’s return from the US in May and their subsequent skipping of many activities linked to the Cord alliance referendum campaign, including the Saba Saba rally at Uhuru Park, the Tononoka rally in Mombasa, and other rallies in Kakamega, Busia and Kisumu. Only last month, ODM risked a falling out at the Coast when it removed Minority Whip in the National Assembly Gideon Mung'aro, and now planned the same for Mr Namwamba, who is chairman of the Parliamentary Accounts Committee. The disclosure emerged even as Mombasa Governor Ali Hassan Joho defended Mr Namwamba against claims that anti-ODM forc ...

ANGIE RIEBE STAFF WRITER VIRGINIA — It was a celebration of the last days of summer and of the return to school. And the “fun day” event, held for youngsters Tuesday on the shore of Silver Lake, is sure to be repeated next year. “We hope to make this an annual event,” said Clara Kardell, quartermaster of the VFW Post No. 1113 that sponsored the three-hour festivities, which included a barbecue, games, fishing and prizes for area children from pre-school to age 15. It was a “team effort” of the Virginia Servicemen’s Club, along with the Virginia Police Department’s D.A.R.E. program and the Virginia Fire Department that made the fun day, well — fun. Kids had the chance to climb inside fire trucks and get their faces painted. There was a bean bag toss, three-legged race, and an obstacle course that involved jumping rope and navigating cones. The idea was to hold a “fun event” — prior to school starting — where kids could “get out and moving,” Kardell said. Children, including ...

California Gun Waiting Period Laws Ruled Unconstitutional Federal court decides 10-day waiting period laws violate Second Amendment rights ROSEVILLE, CA (August 25, 2014) – California’s 10-day waiting period for gun purchases was ruled unconstitutional by a federal judge this morning in a significant victory for Second Amendment civil rights. The laws were challenged by California gun owners Jeffrey Silvester and Brandon Combs, as well as two gun rights groups, The Calguns Foundation and Second Amendment Foundation. In the decision released this morning, Federal Eastern District of California Senior Judge Anthony W. Ishii, appointed to the bench by President Bill Clinton, found that “the 10-day waiting periods of Penal Code [sections 26815(a) and 27540(a)] violate the Second Amendment” as applied to members of certain classifications, like Silvester and Combs, and “burdens the Second Amendment rights of the Plaintiffs.” “This is a great win for Second Amendment civil rights and common sense, ...

Cold Cash Just Keeps Washing in From ALS Challenge Aug 27, 2014, 6:00 PM ET In the couple of hours it took an official from the ALS Association to return a reporter's call for comment, the group's ubiquitous "ice bucket challenge" had brought in a few million more dollars. Approaching $100 million, the viral fundraising campaign for the ailment better known as Lou Gehrig's Disease has put the ALS group into the top ranks for medical charity donations. Since the end of July, the money has been sloshing in at a rate of about $9 million a week. Last year, from July 29 to Aug. 26, the group raised just $2.6 million. It's caught everyone off-guard, none more so than the ALS Association folks. But they know this is likely a one-off phenomenon, and the group now faces the task of spending all that money wisely. Research, care and advocacy are the group's three main missions — but officials say they don't know yet exactly how they'll use the astonishing windfall. "I think even if I or any PR person at either a ...

The ALS Darling of social media, engaging to members of the public and celebrities alike, championed and lauded as a fantastic way to raise awareness of ALS (Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis). Source of millions raised for this devastating disease (BCAction’s former Executive Director, Barbara Brenner died of ALS last year). We are approaching illness and healthcare assbackwards if we continue to determine which diseases get critical research and support dollars based on the appeal and fun factor of their fundraising campaigns! This is a mad way to confront illness and disease. In this new world of philanthropy by popularity contest, the future looks very scary. Only diseases lucky enough to be the beneficiary of a viral, “fun” campaign will capture public attention and funding. Savvy marketing, motivated self-starters, random acts of kindness will determine who gives a toss about people dying and the disease or illness they are dying from. This haphazard approach to healthcare and research funding isn ...

Chenda Claims Credit for TIZ K3.3 Million Graft Exposure Local government minister Emmanuel Chenda has moved to claim credit for the expose by Transparency International Zambia over the K3.3 million theft scandal at the Ministry of Local Government and Housing. However, Chenda who has been quiet until Transparency International revealed the theft said that government had been aware of the theft and had alerted the investigative wings. “We were aware of this incident, it is not correct that TIZ is the one who unearthed the scandal we were on top o ...

Its obvious at the press conference, the tension was so high that keen observers could not miss to note the "plastic smiles" that were being exhibited especially by Ababu & Prof Nyong'o. Mzee Raila downplayed the obvious rift in the party by assuring the party followers all was well though his facial expressions betrayed him since he exhibited a "stone face" that made him look very angry & not at peace with himself or Ababu to say the least. Tampa Bay Provides A Powerful Economic Boost to Region One in every five jobs in the Tampa Bay watershed depends on a healthy Tampa Bay, according to the results of an economic assessment jointly conducted by the Tampa Bay Regional Planning Council and the Tampa Bay Estuary Program. A clean bay also contributes an impressive 13%, or $22 billion, of the total economic activity over the larger, 6-county Tampa Bay region, the study found. These are among the key findings of the first economic valuation of Tampa Bay since 1999. The assessment, led by the Regional Planning Council (RPC), looks at employment, real estate, food services and lodging in the Greater Tampa Bay region, encompassing all or parts of six counties from Hernando to Sarasota. A detailed survey also was given to 76 professionals working in industries affiliated with the bay in some respect, to determine the importance of clean water to various industries.
