Unless you’ve been hiding under a rock lately, we’re pretty sure you’ve heard about the Raspberry Pi by now — a $25 credit-card sized PC that brings ARM/Linux to the Arduino form factor. As a refresher, the system features a 700MHz Broadcom BCM2835 SoC with an ARM11 CPU, a Videocore 4 GPU (which handles HD H.264 video and OpenGL ES 2.0) and 256MB RAM. The board includes an SD card slot, HDMI output, composite video jack, 3.5mm audio socket, micro-USB power connector and GPIO header. Model A ($25) comes with one USB port, while Model B ($35) provides two USB ports and a 100BaseT Ethernet socket. Debian is recommended, but Raspberry Pi can run most ARM-compatible 32-bit OSes. This past weekend at Maker Faire Bay Area 2012 we ran into Eben Upton, Executive Director of the Raspberry Pi Foundation, and took the opportunity to spend some quality time with a production board and to disc ...

Long one, but a really big problem to get your arms around... Now, we are going to wait 2 more months for a "Summit Meeting" according to the City Police Chief! He has had 18 years to meet with others and plan. "Best Practice Technique" is a political correctness term. The end of September everyone is going to get together and create a "Best Practices Technique" Plan. We don't want to offend anyone. Remember, the NAACP is watching and brought the City with the Mayor, City Manager, City Attorney and Police Chief to 'settle' in 2006; when we never did anything wrong. Do you remember the United States Justice Department's Community Relations officers were here during the one way traffic? At the suggestion of out going Gov. Beasley's staff, I called Atlanta. Mr. Stallworth never said we were wrong in the handling of the traffic. I remember talking with his coworker from Boston in front of the Captain's Quarters and he asked, "Why do you allow this to go on here? This doesn't happen in Boston, NY, Philadelphia ...
World Population Day is a day for introspection. India has spectacularly failed in controlling its population and in utilising its huge human resource base to engender national progress. Is it too late to effect a change of course? Nations have suffered for want of enough able bodied and wise men. We have plenty of this resource in India but don’t know how to use it to our national advantage. What can be a greater tragedy? The Home Minister said that the theme for this year’s World Population Day chosen by the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPS) is “Investing in youth”. For India this is most appropriate because it presently has one of the youngest populations in the world. More than half are below 25 and 65 percent of the population is under 35 years of age. The intention of observing July 11 as World Population is to raise awareness on the need to offer adequate health, education and other essential services. The Executive Director of UNFPA, Mr Babatunde Osotomehin has called for raising peop ...

PJStar - 07/09/14 - Construction is scheduled to begin on the Peoria PlayHouse Children’s Museum more than 10 years since the idea took root. The Peoria Park Board on Wednesday night approved a $2.5 million construction bid from River City Construction to convert the Glen Oak Pavilion into an interactive museum aimed at the community’s youngest learners. “We are going to start knocking down walls, and we are hoping that by May, June we’ll have our doors open,” said Brenda O’Russa, development director for the Peoria Zoological Society. Construction is expected to begin next week following a ceremonial ground breaking on July 15 and originally was expected to last 12 months. A separate bid of $1.6 million was awarded in March for pieces of the six exhibits, so part of the project is well underway. The longstanding effort by the Power of Play Campaign, a partnership forged between the Junior League of Peoria, the Peoria Zoological Society and the Peoria Park District, came to fruition after a st ...

VOUR: AFTER KICKING OUT THE LORD MAYER AND GIVEN TO WHAT HAPPENED IN KASESE, M7 IS NOW TURNING TO KICKING OUT THE KABAKA, STAY TUNED: Dislodging Lukwago from the Kampala Mayorship has been a gradual process ever since he took over office. Designation of KCCA, appointment of both the KCCA Executive Director and a Minister in-charge of Kampala have been part of the protracted scheme to undermine the authority of the Lord Mayor. The relief that the High Court granted to Lukwago on the same day can be equated to a penalty which if well planned can only afford Lukwago one goal. At the end of the match, Museveni will win with 3-1. However, what can only save Lukwago is a 'storm' that will see the match cancelled indefinetely or lightening to strike the entire Museveni team. Otherwise, the Thursday's Jubilant processions through Kampala can be said to have been a farewell one for the Lord Mayor Lukwago. That is why there was no scuffle between the Police and jubilating processions. With Museveni's Cadres Judici ...

IMPEACHMENT? Are you f- kidding me? Charles Chamberlain, Democracy for Ameri You may not want to believe what I'm about to tell you, but it's something you need to take very seriously: If Republicans win control of the Senate this November, and the Tea Party increases its power in Congress, they will impeach President Obama. The Washington Post's Jonathan Capehart is sounding the alarm -- and I agree with him: "I've said this before and I'll keep repeating it until the message sinks in for Democrats inclined to sit out the midterms: Obama is not on the ballot in November, but Obama is on the ballot in November. Democrats have it in their power to keep the Senate and save the Obama presidency from the all-but-certain asterisk of impeachment." If there is even a 10% chance that Jonathan Capehart is right, we have to do everything in our power to stop the possibility that the GOP will impeach the president -- a media circus that would have disastrous policy consequences for the final two years of the Obama A ...

[Norm Geisler, Texe Marrs, and others have accused Dave of using a "ghost writer." Dave wrote the following in 1994 about such charges - RY]. I have never used a “ghost-writer” and never will, nor would I “ghostwrite” for others. I have written autobiographies for others and have always had my name included. Someone’s name on a book followed by “with Dave Hunt” means I wrote it. If there is a “ghostwriter,” the person named as author didn’t write the book or article, while the real writer’s name is not mentioned. That, in my opinion, is dishonest. Every article I write in TBC has my name. When T. A. McMahon writes an article, his name is on it. Answers in the “Q&A” section have never had a name attached, which indicates that no one person writes them all, but that the answers represent the view of TBC, its staff and board of directors. For a time I wrote all of the articles and all answers to questions, but the demands on my time make that impossible, though I still write the maj ...

News Release June 30, 2014 30,000 More Veterans Died Waiting for VA Benefits In 2002, the Department of Veterans Affairs (DVA) rescinded the health care and compensation benefits granted to certain Vietnam veterans by the Agent Orange Act of 1991. Since that date, more than 30,000 Navy and Marine veterans who served offshore Vietnam during that War have died. The Blue Water Nay Vietnam Veterans Association, currently fighting the VA for re-instatement of their benefits, estimates that as many as 15,000 of those veterans may have died from Agent Orange/dioxin-related complications. “Without those basic benefits,” says John Paul Rossie, Executive Director of the Association, “we estimate that the majority of those veterans may have died in debt from having to pay for treatment of their own service-connected war injuries, and many could have had their lives prolonged to a significant degree if they had been given the medical treatment automatically provided to all other veterans of the Vietnam War.” ...

ashless policy, an initiative of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) and the Bankers’ Committee aimed at reducing the amount of cash in the system will be extended to 30 more states in the country from today. The policy which commenced in Lagos state in 2012 was last year extended to Abia, Anambra, Ogun, Kano, Rivers States and the FCT. However, just like in the states where the policy had been implemented, the central bank last week announced the deferment of charges for individuals and corporate account holders who wish to withdraw cash above the prescribed limits in the 30 states. The charges on withdrawals for both individual and corporate account holders will now take effect in the remaining 30 States from July 1, 2015. The waiver is to allow ample time for the deployment of adequate infrastructure needed to support the policy. Supreme Court Declines Case Contesting Ban on *** ‘Conversion Therapy’ By DAVID S. JOACHIM JUNE 30, 2014 The Supreme Court declined on Monday to hear a challenge to a California law that bans “conversion therapy” aimed at changing the sexual orientation of *** and *** minors. The court, in rejecting the case, effectively let stand a federal appeals court ruling issued last August that said that the state’s ban on the practice did not violate the free speech rights of counselors or people seeking treatment. The appeals court had said that the state had an interest in banning professional treatments it considered harmful. The Supreme Court did not say why it rejected the case, as is its custom. Some conservative and religious groups continue to argue that sexuality is not innate and that a person could change his or her sexual orientation. Scientific and medical groups, however, have said that there is no evidence that sexual attractions can be changed. They also say that conversion therapies ...

From Rav Ronen Neuwirth, Executive Director of Beit Hillel and Rabbi of Kehillat Ohel Ari, Ra'anana: Following two and a half weeks of intense prayer that did not result in the safe return of the boys home, many are wondering about the power and impact of tefillah. I wish to share with you a thought about what we perceive to be unanswered prayers, which I hope that you find to be meaningful and comforting. *** “Avraham instituted the morning tefillah, as it says: “וישכם אברהם בבקר אל המקום אשר עמד שם” – "And Avraham rose early in the morning to the place where he had stood", and ‘standing’ refers to prayer, as it says, “Then Pinchas stood and prayed” (Berachot 26b). The pasuk “וישכם אברהם בבוקר”, which is the source of Tefillat Shacharit, is not the famous “וישכם” of Akeidat Yitzchak, but, perhaps rather surprisingly, from the story of Sodom. After all the courageous prayers of Avraham to Hashem to rescue at least some of Sodom's inh ...

Thank you for all of your concern about recent flash flooding in the area. The theatre doesn’t need any volunteer help at this time. We’ve gotten rather good at handling these precipitous situations. Much of the water in the basement generated in the last 24 hours has caused challenges either easy to handle by our staff and onsite volunteers or challenging enough in nature to require an electrician or cleanup professionals. Les Mis costumes are safe. TCR is safe. Cleanup plans are in place. Please pay forward your willingness to help the theatre to those whose homes, neighborhoods and businesses need your energy following this ridiculous deluge. On with the show! --Casey Prince, Executive Director, TCR

Should a Chimp be able to sue his/her owner? With good representation, i don't see why not! And Steven Wise, lawyer and legal scholar in the field of animal law, Natalie Prosin, the executive director of the Nonhuman Rights Project (Nh.R.P.), and Elizabeth Stein, a New York-based animal-law expert, are some of the people who will fight to the end to see that animals, starting with primates, be able to finally be represented as "person" in court, and not as "things", and this will allow them to be able to gain their freedom much easier from their abusive owner, as a PERSON, not a thing! And it does makes a whole lot of sense, and is what we (ARAs) have been fighting for all this time for the simple reason that animals are LIVING, BREATHING, sentient beings who are much more like us than they are inanimate property... like furniture or bags and clothing! It may sound ridiculous, but watch the short documentary below ... it makes a whole lot of sense to this lawyer, and hopefully to many others, and will ...

Meriam Ibrahim and her American family are not yet safe. They won't be safe until they're on U.S. soil. Less than 24 hours after being released from death row in Sudan, Meriam, her two American children, along with her American husband were detained by 40 members of Sudan's secret police. While there are conflicting reports about possible new charges against her, the fact remains that she and her American family are not free to leave. They are being held against their will. Some reports indicate that Sudan won't recognize her travel documents because they use her Christian name. Others are reporting that Sudan is seeking to imprison her for seven years. Sudan is playing games with Meriam's life. It is playing games with U.S. citizens and the U.S. government. We're not fooled. We won't stop fighting until she is safely in America. Secretary of State Kerry and President Obama must immediately speak out and secure their freedom. Jordan Sekulow, Executive Director, ACLJ. **(If you wish to sign the petition, p ...

How to Launch Your Own Movement By Thomas Frey, Executive Director of the DaVinci Institute Too often the old notions about starting a business fail because the end goal of what we’re trying to accomplish is too big. It’s too big for what you can accomplish yourself. It’s too big for the traditional revenue paradigms of business modeling. And it’s too big to fit within the legal structures that we as business people have to operate within. Lately the trend has been to “Launch Your Own Movement”. Much of the work done in the open source community has given us clues as to how a movement can be developed and launched, but large pieces of this emerging science still remains a mystery. But that said, there are several necessary components to “movement launching” that, if done well, set you on your way to lead the charge. 1. Establish the Need. Make a convincing argument as to why the world needs the changes you’re trying to make. Crafting the message is extremely important. Always focus and " ...

World Bank has reportedly approved N80.7 billion (about $ 495.3 million) to boost agriculture in Northern Nigeria. The bank’s executive directors approved the money to improve farmers’ access to irrigation and drainage services, according to Sahara Reporters. These funds will also be disbursed to strengthen institutional arrangements for integrated water resources management and enhance delivery of agricultural services in selected large- scale public schemes in the Northern part of Nigeria. Authorities aim to achieve the aforementioned objectives through a project called Transforming Irrigation Management in Nigeria (TRIMING). TRIMING will reportedly improve existing irrigation on 27,000 hectares, irrigate an additional 23,000 hectares, and benefit more than 140,000 farmers, while mobilising private sector investment. The project will be implemented by the Federal Ministry of Water Resources (FMWR) and is scheduled to become effective from Oct. 1.

They found almost all of the missing bikes. We're looking forward to teaching and riding during the rest of the East Athens Summer Camp. Nearly all bikes stolen from East Athens Community Center recovered By JOE JOHNSON June 20, 2014 - 9:54pm A dozen bicycles on loan to children attending summer camp at the East Athens Community Center were stolen from a center storage shed earlier this week. But as of late Friday afternoon, all but one had been recovered, Athens-Clarke County police said. Three of the bicycles were recovered soon after the burglary was reported on Wednesday, but eight more were returned by neighborhood children after news of the thefts became public, according to police. People who work at the center drove around the Nellie B community looking for children riding the off-road bicycles, all of which were the same brand and color, police said. “Word trickled back through the community and the kids started bringing them back,” Athens-Clarke County police Lt. Mike McKeel said. He said po ...

Quote of the Day: “This year’s budget is filled with many questionable money grabs and accounting gimmicks. Lawmakers had to resort to unorthodox tactics because they were unwilling to close tax loopholes and end unnecessary tax breaks that are draining revenue. Balancing the budget by raiding a scholarship trust fund is one broken promise that must not be allowed to stand.” - OK Policy Executive Director David Blatt, writing about the legislature’s attempt to divert funds from the Oklahoma's Promise scholarship trust fund, which Attorney General Scott Pruitt said was unlawful (Source:

School will be closing this month and along with that the school feeding programs will be ending. This usually means that we will be seeing more kids coming in for meals. For many young people there is nothing to eat at home and they depend on feeding programs for meals. People see the number of people we feed and the number of people who sleep in our beds and say what a great work we do; however, without our supporters nothing would be accomplished. All the Mission and Friendship House are is stewards of what you give us. All most everything you give us passes through our hands and to those in need. Please remember as you see the number of people served that you are partners with us in all we do. Sincerely, Gary T. Rowell Executive Director
America’s top 10 most disaster-prone states When natural disasters like last year’s massive Colorado floods strike, it causes some pause for thought among producers. According to Carole Walker, executive director of the Rocky Mountain Insurance Information Association, the flooding that affected much of the state served to increase awareness of corresponding insurance coverage among independent agents and brokers. “Up to 25% of flood claims come from low- to moderate-risk areas like ours. It’s an important policy and agents and brokers need to know what flood insurance offers,” said Walker. “The big message here is, yes, we live in Colorado but we do get flash floods. It’s our most common natural disaster, and we really urge agents to offer flood insurance to everyone.” Of course, the best time to increase insurance awareness is before—not after—a devastating natural disaster. To that end, here are the most disaster-prone states in the US, according to data from the National Weather Se ...

The Importance of Music Education in our Public Schools . . . . . PLEASE SHARE. My name is Paul Surapine, the Founding Artistic and Executive Director of the Claflin Hill Symphony Orchestra in Milford. Together with my wife Susan and our sons Zachary and Joshua, we have lived in Milford since 1992. Zachary and Joshua are both proud products of the Milford Public School system and we have always been strong proponents of public school education. Ever since the founding of Claflin Hill, I have made a practice and protocol of never publicly voicing our opinions on political issues in our local and regional community – Claflin Hill is an independent and private non-profit that needs the support of an entire large community – we need everyone “under our tent” and we are NOT a political platform – though I have constantly used the CHSO podium as a “bully pulpit” to encourage everyone in our listening audience to be involved and to be responsible voting citizens. However, as the leader of a cult .. ...

Missing $20bn: Group wants Diezani sacked A civil rights organisation, under the aegis of Gatekeeper Foundation, has insisted that the Minister of Petroleum Resources, Diezani Alison-Madueke, must be relieved of her position in order to ensure non-interference with the forensic audit of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation. The group also attributed the rejection of Madueke as the President of the Organisation of Petroleum Exporting Countries as a result of its protest in Vienna, Austria. The audit was approved by President Goodluck Jonathan towards investigating the alleged non-remittance of $20bn by the NNPC into the Federation Account. The Executive Director of Gatekeepers Foundation, Mr. Blessing Agbomhere, who led the anti-Diezani protest, told journalists on Saturday in Abuja at the Federal Capital Territory council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists that it would not be right for a government that claimed to be fighting graft to allow the minister to preside over her own case. Islam invented the city. The city, Yathrib Madina, was moved by Prophet Muhammad from Makkah. Cities are here to civilize us not decivilize us. Mosque, madrasah, hammam (cleanliness), suk (market), bookshop compose a city. London has 350 mosques, metropolitan creations of today. Each has his own soul, organic things, growing something. Washington, Tokyo have its own life. We (Muslims) contribute to this (by buying halal etc) . It is sad despite the resource of Muslim countries, no city's urban planners and politicians in the world has sit down to make a modern Muslim city that reflect Islamic ethos. Presentation note from British speaker Dr Fuad Nahdi, Executive Director , Radical Middle Way; Fellow, Muslim College, London, Third Meeting on Information Issues on Muslim Diaspora, Organization of Islamic Cooperation, Grand City Park, Singapore Building dialogue is a long way, generates fruits, we have to be there for the long haul.
