The European Grand Prix (sometimes referred to as the Grand Prix of Europe) is a Formula One event that was reintroduced during the mid-1980s and has been held regularly since 1999. From 2008 it will take place for at least another 7 years.

AZERBAIJAN TO HOST THE 2016 EUROPEAN GP: The Azerbaijani government and Bernie Ecclestone have come to an agreement which will see the nation's capital Baku host the European Grand Prix in 2016. Baku's streets will provide a 4.3 kilometre circuit at which it attracted a large crowd of 50,000 people to the FIA GT Series finale last year. “We have signed the deal with Bernie Ecclestone and will announce it officially with an event in Baku shortly,” said Azad Rahimov, Azerbaijan’s Minister of Youth and Sports. The European Grand Prix has been to many fascinating locations in Europe. Circuits such as Jerez, Donnington, the Nurburgring and most recently the Valencia street circuit have all featured in the championship through time. The former Soviet nation will host their first Formula One event, four years after the last Grand Prix of Europe was held in Valencia.

The German Grand Prix - did you know? Fernando Alonso has the best record of any current driver in Germany. The Spaniard has won the German Grand Prix three times, the same number of times as Juan Manuel Fangio, Jackie Stewart, Nelson Piquet and Ayrton Senna. He’s also won twice at the Nurburgring (in 2005 and 2007 when it held the European Grand Prix). Mark Webber (2009) and Lewis Hamilton (2008, 2011) are the only other current drivers to have won either in Germany or specifically at the Nurburgring .
So 2012 was the Olympics and GB smashed it! 2013 is becoming an incredible year so far; - Lions winning in Australia - Stimson and Brownlee winning in the Triathlon - GB Wheelchair basketball in the final of the European Championships - 3 gold medals at the Women's European champs boxing - Froome currently 1st in Tour De France - Farah wins 5000m at Diamond League - Cockcroft and Peacock win at IPC Grand Prix - GB women finish 3rd in European Team Athletics - Justin Rose winning the US Open major - England finishing 2nd at the ICC Champions Trophy cricket And of course we have Wimbledon final today with a Brit in the final and the Ashes starting on Weds. I state categorically that pound for pound we are the best sporting nation on Earth! A far cry from 17 years ago!!

If you want to see a super cool auto race on an old school track, tune in to alms.com now, and watch the US North East Grand Prix in the American Le Mans Series from Lime Rock Park. I was lucky enough to visit this track last year (the day before I was even more lucky, when I got to drive both at Monticello and Watkins Glen), and it's amazing to see this really small track in the middle of nowhere, and even more amazing to see LMP1-cars race there now. But Lime Rock is just one of many great tracks in the US, and proof that great race tracks can be short - but they need to be fast and "old school"! The ALMS is also a great championship, and I'm cheering for my buddy and former competitor John Eddy who started on pole in the GT-class. Maybe I shouldn't watch motorsports when I have an off-weekend (no F1- or rallycross commentating, and no VLN-racing for me this weekend), but, you know...

The German Grand Prix - did you know? In the 17 previous world championship Grands Prix at the ‘new’ Nurburgring (including German, European and Luxembourg Grands Prix), the pole sitter has been victorious on only three occasions. The furthest back on the grid any race winner has started in these 17 races is 14th - that was Johnny Herbert in the 1999 European Grand Prix.
I don't follow Rugby, so genuine question. What's the deal with the British & Irish Lions, it's just a pointless bunch of friendlies right? I can't work out why they are a thing.

Simple because today in the viewfinder there is another stupid rule that curbs the growth of the premier class of Grand Prix racing. And this is the number of bikes deployable from a house, fixed to four. Thanks to this rule is dull today, the Yamaha can not please Cal Crutchlow, who deserves a M1 official in 2014. This horse is five years old. On a previous test the judge wrote that the horse needs more submission and THIS is how this rider decided to obtain it. Why? Because this is how many of the big name riders do it. The trickle down effect. I imagine this rider has spent a lifetime learning to ride and train. What does it say about the "system" of education currently in place? Shame Shame Shame!!
Olympic qualification rules changes TAEKWONDO RIO 2016-- The World Taekwondo Federation has established a Working Group aimed to produce the rules that will regulate its new star competition: The Grand Prix Series. Gen who took her first Australian title, the 3000 sc in April comes to the Morton Games for the second time, having placed 3rd in last year`s mile in a new pb of 4.32.19. The women`s International mile was one of the highlights of the 2012 Morton Games and with top Irish athletes athletes like Fionnuala Britton, Laura Crowe and Kerry Harty, and US stars Brie Felnagle and Deborah Maier it looks like 2013`s meet will serve up another brilliant women`s mile. The field for the Albie Thomas 3000 continues to get better and better as it`s confirmed that Jonny Taylor will line up on July 17th. Taylor propelled himself into the lime light with a superb cross country season in the winter of 2012/13 winning the McCain Cross Challenge/European Trials in Liverpool and defeating reigning champion Andy Vernon, Vernon also goes in the Morton Games 3000. .. ...
After watching Grand Prix, I may start to watch Formula One stuff. I really dislike NASCAR, basically due to it being a redneck thing and being all left turns. F-1 has all kinds of curves and is more European, so I may be able to get interested in that.
Yeah, do you think they are hypnotized ? I see it here in Bavaria a lot in the restaurant of the sports club: every wednesday and saturday all these otherwise very reasonable and partly highly educated folks are regularly watching 22 Soccer players running after the ball. Each game pretty much the same as the next because in contrast to individual sports of 2 or few players or highly artistic and or aerobatic sports, there is not much variation, just the color of the shirts of the players changes really. But what is great about Soccer is the fact, that technique-wise it is very easily learnt and it is 99% a question of physical fitness, and that is the great thing that ghetto-kids in poor countries can get at least as good skills with a soccer ball as Long as they have such a ball and the physical fitness they can also train without any equipment or sports arenas. But I really dislike that there is so much money involved, tens of German league teams with each 11 players and about as many in reserve are al ...
0 The last Thunderbird, Ford Motor Company's iconic sports car, emerges from a Ford factory in Wixom, Michigan on this day in 2005. Ford began its development of the Thunderbird in the years following World War II, during which American servicemen had the opportunity to observe sleek European sports cars. General Motors built the first American sports car: the Chevrolet Corvette, released in 1953. The undeniably sleek Corvette's initial engine performance was relatively underwhelming, but it was gaining lots of attention from the press and public, and Ford was motivated to respond, rushing the Thunderbird to the market in 1955. The 1955 Thunderbird was an immediate hit, selling more than 14,000 that year (compared to just 700 Corvettes). The success of the Thunderbird led Chevrolet to continue production of (and improve upon) the Corvette, which soon became a tough competitor in the sports car market. In addition to the powerful V-8 engine that Ford was known for, the Thunderbird boasted all the convenien ...
My brother sent me this in an email. He makes a very valid point. Lets look at some of the greatest technological advances in the last 30 years. 1. Robots were used to disarm roadside bombs in Iraq. 2. We can now identify all 20,000 to 25,000 genes in human DNA 3. The hubble telescope has allowed us to peer into galaxies more than 12 billion years away. This is just within the last 30 years. Now the automobile industry has worked tirelessly to produce technologically advanced vehicles as well. They have worked hard using every ounce of energy available to them to make cars better than they were before. How about an example of this new automobile technology. The Pontiac Grand Prix has been around for a long time. They stopped production in 2008. But lets look at the technological advances they made regarding gas mileage. In 1984 an 8cyl Pontiac Grand Prix got 21 MPG. In 2008, the last year of production, an 8cyl Pontiac Grand Prix got 19 MPG. See that's .hey.wait a minute.thats WORSE gas mileage. O ...

Codex did todays 1.000.000€ Rolex Grand Prix of Aachen and once again he jumped like a star!! He was one of only 8 clears in the challenging first round, but had an unlucky fault on the third last fence in the second round, which let him finish on 8th place!! Nevertheless Codex and of course his stable mate Taloubet Z did really a great job in Aachen this year!! Due to this Christian is one of German team chef Otto Becker's favourite for this years European Championships. Please keep your fingers crossed that Christian and one of his incredible stallions will be part of the German team for the European Championships, which will be announced in two weeks! :)

Great day to stay indoors and watch sports! ✓ British Grand Prix ✓ Uruguay vs. Italy ✓ Brazil vs. Spain
Today is a European sports day for me. Le Tour De France followed by the British Formula One Grand Prix all on NBC Sports channel. Good job NBC for showing sports that in the world at least, are more popular than the hours on end of Rangers Baseball and Dallas Cowboys (two losing teams) that the others seem to think is all there is! Oh yes... Sorry, Major american TV networks - I forgot; there isn't a world outside of the USA, is there?

Some interesting changes for next year. In-season testing will return to Formula One next season after the World Motor Sport Council approved four two-day tests. The FIA's WMSC met at Goodwood House on Friday to discuss various proposals including in-season testing, which has been banned since 2009. It was agreed that next season there will be four two-day tests that will take place on Tuesdays and Wednesdays in the wake of grand prix weekends. Which races they will follow has yet to be decided but it will be European events. In return, the teams will do away with their current eight one-day promotional days as well as the three-day Young Driver Test. Added to that the amount of time permitted in wind tunnels and CFD work will be reduced to "help reduce costs and potentially allow two teams to share one wind tunnel." The teams will also have the opportunity to test their new V6 engines a month early with pre-season testing kicking off in January instead of February. The Council also ratified a penalty poi ...

We need your help! Were you at the European Grand Prix at Donington Park back in 1993? Do you remember watching Ayrton Senna and THAT incredible first lap – described by some as the greatest F1 lap of all time? We are looking to write an article about the race to commemorate 20 years since that event. If you were there, we want your recollections. Let us know if you attended and where you were stood. We will then contact you for further details. Thanks Motorsport News

Romain Grosjean is confident he will be much stronger in the 2013 Formula 1 season if he is given a new deal by his Lotus team.Grosjean was signed to partner Kimi Raikkonen at Lotus in 2012 and had a promising start to the year despite some early incidents. The Frenchman was a good match to Raikkonen's speed, beating him 10-9 in the qualifying head-to-head, and finished on the podium three times. The second half of the season was hard for Grosjean as he was involved in several accidents and received a one-race ban for his crash at the Belgian Grand Prix.Lotus is expected to decide Grosjean's future imminently, but the 26-year-old believes he is capable of repaying the team's faith if he is given the chance next year. Grosjean made his grand prix debut with Renault when he replaced Nelson Piquet Jr. from the 2009 European Grand Prix. He endured a tough few races before returning to GP2 in the middle of the 2010 season, which he had started by competing in GT racing. The French driver feels his performances t ...
The German Grand Prix next year has been moved forward to July 7. The location of the Grand Prix is yet to be decided with financial difficulty. Meanwhile the older slot for the Grand Prix has been reserved for what the FIA call 'A European Grand Prix'. The race is though to be held in Turkey's Istanbul Park or Austria's Red Bull Ring. Istanbul looks like the early favourite though. - Owen
This Day in Auto History 11.16.1892 Tazio Giorgio Nuvolari is born in Casteldario, a village near the city of Mantua in Northern Italy. Nuvolari quickly became very popular in Italy and begun testing himself in Grand Prix motor racing. After winning the prestigious Targa Florio he decided to dedicate himself only to cars. He obtained victories on most of the Italian circuits and in the Mille Miglia. In 1932 he dominated Grand Prix motor racing, winning the Monaco, French and Italian Grand Prix events. Perhaps his greatest ever victory was the German Grand Prix of 1935, where, in an outdated and uncompetitive Alfa Romeo he defeated Germany's vaunted Auto Union and Mercedes Benz racing outfits. The only major European Grand Prix he never won was the Czecholslovakian Grand Prix. Upon his return to racing after the World War, he was 54 and suffering from ill health. His final race, in 1950, saw him finish first in class and fifth overall. He died at age 60 on August 11, 1953.
