Brad Shear, President of the Fed and ED at Mohawk Hudson Humane Society joins in honoring NYS Attorney General Eric Schneiderman for the work he's done to protect animals in NYS. Thanks to the Humane Society of the US for making this event happen.
Pleased to join Brian Shapiro, Libby Post, Brad Shear and Attorney General Eric Schneiderman at Mohawk Hudson Humane Society to acknowledge the strong work of his Animal Protection Initiative. Sorry to see random trolls on the AG's site criticizing and spreading misinformation about his work - and believe me, his office has worked - to bring animal abusers to justice. Largest cockfighting ring bust in NYS history? Check. Busting unscrupulous and fraudulent pet dealers? Check. At no other time in history has the OAG been so invested in animal welfare, and the ASPCA is proud to provide forensic evidence gathering, removal, transport and sheltering services for his efforts. Thanks to HSUS for acknowledging his efforts with a humane law enforcement award.

NEWS BRIEFS FROM AROUND THE NATION. 1 *** rights: Four legally married *** couples filed a federal civil rights lawsuit Monday seeking to force Ohio to recognize same-sex marriages on birth certificates despite a statewide ban. The couples filed the suit in Cincinnati, arguing that the state's practice of listing only one partner in a *** marriage as a parent on birth certificates violates the U.S. Constitution. "We want to be afforded the same benefits and rights as every other citizen of the United States," said plaintiff Joe Vitale, who lives in Manhattan with his husband and their adopted 10-month-old son, who was born in Ohio. 2 Avalanche deaths: Two people were killed in separate avalanches in Utah after several feet of snowfall unleashed weekend slides. 'Angry Birds' Op Busts Cockfights New York authorities announced that Operation Angry Birds, an initiative that had nothing to do with smartphone games but rather a cockfighting ring, had saved 3,000 hens and roosters and led to nine felony arrest charges. Attorney General Eric Schneiderman said the sting targeted sites in Brooklyn, Queens, and Ulster County. According to police, these angry birds had endured a far crueler existence than their viral app-game counterpart. Many had been injected with performance-enhancing drugs and had razor-sharp hooks attached in place of their natural spurs.

New York AG Looking Into Insurer’s Purge Of 2,000 Physicians. The New York Post (12/31, Earle, Campanile) reports that New York Attorney General Eric Schneiderman “is probing insurance giant UnitedHealth for booting 2,000 New York doctors from its Medicare Advantage health plan.” The action “comes just days after The Post reported that the Medical Society of the State of New York is suing the company in Brooklyn federal court, charging the purge violates contracts with” physicians. In a letter to UnitedHealth, Schneiderman “requested information on the breakdown and number of physicians getting bumped, as well as the number of patients who would lose” their physician. The Capital New York (12/31, Nahmias, Goldberg) reports that Schneiderman’s office wrote in a letter that it was “concerned that seniors will have had insufficient time to make an informed choice” about new medical providers in the small amount of time between the announcement and the narrower network going into effect. Michael Schorr of Valley Cottage pleaded guilty Wednesday to third-degree grand larceny before Manhattan Supreme Court Justice Charles Solomon (See Profile). He will be sentenced Feb. 25 for masquerading as an attorney for four years and defrauding seven clients out of more than $15,000 in legal fees. Attorney General Eric Schneiderman, whose office brought a 35-count indictment against Schorr in May (NYLJ, May 8), said in a statement that Schorr appeared repeatedly in the U.S. Immigration Court, where he defrauded and misrepresented Brazilian, Israeli and Mexican clients. Schneiderman said that many of the cases had to be re-opened. "Phony lawyers preying on our unsuspecting immig ...

By Victor Li A proposed new law in California would require smartphone manufacturers to include a "kill switch” that would render a stolen phone inoperable. According to Network World, the law was proposed by two San Francisco-area officials: state senator Mark Leno and district attorney George Gascón. The kill switch would wipe personal information from a stolen phone and require users to enter a password or authorization code in order to operate it. The article states that, if the bill is adopted, the added costs and difficulties associated with creating special smartphones for California could result in manufacturers deciding to adopt the kill switch as a standard feature for all phones sold in the United States. Alongside New York Attorney General Eric Schneiderman, Gascón has spent months pressuring smartphone manufacturers to voluntarily adopt the kill switch. Citing a rise in violent crime relating to smartphone theft, Gascón and Schneiderman have argued that kill switches would deter criminal ...

Donald Trump: The Tappan Zee Bridge builder’s apprentice by Jordan Carleo-Evangelist, Staff Writer Noted bridge engineer Donald John Trump Sr. took to Fred Dicker’s Talk 1300 radio show this morning to expound on his comments in Dicker’s column today that rather than building a brand-new Tappan Zee Bridge for $4 billion, the state could easily rehab the rusting behemoth “for peanuts.” It was, in all, a command performance, in which the colorful real estate magnate took a breather from feuding with Attorney General Eric Schneiderman and flirting somewhat with running for governor to drop some big bridge straight talk on the listening audience — including the assertion, without citing a source, that replacing the 58-year-old bridge over the Hudson River will actually cost taxpayers $10 billion and that he “heard” the toll will be $25. Also, the people who designed the new bridge are Park Avenue “eggheads.” Included in the basis for his analysis, Trump said, is the fact that he drives ove ...

The NY Attorney General, Eric Schneiderman, appointed a new Assistant AG in my case whose name has both "sue" and "con" in it. That worries me. At least she's a woman, so she's unlikely to think that it's OK for a gang of thugs to grab a frail woman by her wrists and ankles like a rag doll, and strip her clothes off, while she is crying for help. But who knows? The AG apparently thinks it's OK to prevent plaintiffs against the state from finding an attorney to represent them, so nothing would surprise me about him anymore.

More from Wells Fargo CEO John Stumpf, on Jamie Dimon, Eric Schneiderman & why regulations have "gone too far." Q&A:
How the banks' big foreclosure settlement cheated consumers New York Atty. Gen. Eric Schneiderman has lowered the boom on Wells Fargo for what he says are serial violations of the huge foreclosure abuse settlement that Wells and four other big banks reached with federal and state regulators last year. Schneiderman's legal action reminds us what a scam that supposedly groundbreaking settlement was from the get-go. Remember that settlement? Trumpeted by the regulators as a huge victory for the consumer, it required five big banks to pay $25 billion and adhere to a long list of proper foreclosure practices. The improper bank practices that were supposed to be wiped out included submitting forged or fraudulent documents, "robo-signing" documents the "signers" hadn't read, and banks' foreclosing on homeowners at the same time they were negotiating with them for loan modifications. The banks were Wells, Bank of America, JPMorgan Chase, Citibank and Ally Financial (formerly GMAC). Schneiderman, who was not a gre ...
No one should shed a tear for JP Morgan Chase Bank: Alot of people all over the world are having opinions now about the ostensibly gigantic $13 billion settlement Jamie Dimon and JP Morgan Chase have entered into with the government. The general consensus from most observers in the finance sector is that this superficially high-dollar settlement - worth about half a year's profits for Chase - is an unconscionable Marxist appropriation. It's been called a "robbery" and a "shakedown," in which red Obama and his evil henchman Eric Holder confiscated cash from a successful bank, as The Wall Street Journal wrote, "for no other reason than because they can and because they want to appease their left-wing populist allies." Look, there's no denying that this is a lot of money. It's the biggest settlement in the history of government settlements, and it's just one company to boot. But this has been in the works for a long time, and it's been in the works for a reason. This whole thing, lest anyone forget, has its ...

NY Attorney General Launches Investigation into “Shop and Frisk”... The New York State Attorney General has launched an investigation of the retail chains Macy’s and Barneys New York following complaints of discrimination from Black customers who said they were unfairly stopped by store personnel and police after making purchases. The announcement of the investigation by Attorney General Eric Schneiderman came shortly after a meeting between Barneys senior officers and a wide group of civil rights and community leaders to address a widening level of allegations against the store. Schneiderman asked Barneys and Macy’s to turn over by the end of the week information about their policies regarding detaining and questioning customers based on race. Buried evidence about Attica uprising may be revealed Released documents would shine new light on brutal repression of heroic prisoners By Eugene Puryear OCTOBER 30, 2013 Forty-two years after the heroic uprising by inmates in New York State’s Attica prison, State Attorney General Eric Schneiderman is petitioning the state courts for the release of sealed documents from a 1975 special commission that investigated the uprising and its aftermath. The hundreds of pages of sealed evidence are a part of the Meyer Commission Report, which was only partially released. If the courts comply with the Attorney General’s request then all of the unreleased pages, which include grand jury testimony on the actions of authorities, will become public. While the contents of the documents are not known, the Attorney General’s office is promoting the potential release as the final chapter in the Attica story, able to reveal the complete truth of what happened when the authorities brutally ended the uprising, killing 32 ...
Attorney General Eric T. Schneiderman today announced more than $12.4 million in grant funding for land banks in Erie County/Buffalo, Rochester, Syracuse, Chautauqua County, Newburgh, and Suffolk County. The grants represent the first round of competitive funding awards under the Attorney General’s Land Bank Community Revitalization Initiative. This two-year, $20 million program provides funds from last year’s National Mortgage Settlement with the nation’s largest banks to help communities rebuild and restore neighborhoods hit hard by the housing crisis. “In the aftermath of the foreclosure crisis, communities across our state have been burdened by vacant and abandoned properties that attract crime and drag down property values,” said Attorney General Schneiderman. “By funding land banks across New York, we are helping to empower local communities to rebuild their own neighborhoods, house by house, block by block. Rita Louieposted toSave Patrick Farm Here's David Fried's stand on Patrick Farm and overdevelopment as a whole, we've said this before, but I'm not sure it's getting through: The Patrick Farm development project should have never been approved by the Town of Ramapo and we must do what we can to reverse the possibility of an extremely overdeveloped property infringing on the quality of life and safety of all Rockland County’s residents. It is home to various waterways that feed the Mahwah River, which is one of the prime sources of Rockland County’s water supply. So, the development of high-density housing — nearly 500 units — in such an area is unacceptable. The original zoning on this property only allowed the building of a single-family home for every two acres of property, which is also more in line with the character of the area. Less dense development would mean that less of the ground surface would be covered with impermeable surfaces such as streets, parking lots, and home units, which woul ...
On Barneys, Black folk, Macy's, Mayhem, Profiling, Profit. NYTimes reports NYC Attorney General Eric Schneiderman has launched an investigation into accusations of profiling against Barneys & Macys. Letters have been sent to CEOs of both retailers asking for their policies re stopping, detaining, questioning customers on the basis of race. Their office reports several complaints re profiling against Macy's. Back in 2005, the State's Attorney General office under Eliot Spitzer filed suit against Macy's due to profiling accusations by Black & Hispanic customers. Macy's denied any wrong doing and paid out more than half a million dollars. Here's what we know about the cancer of racism and profiling. Repeat offenders are the rule, never the exception. Corporations continue until they are impacted in the one place they pay any real attention to - the profit in their pockets and the real loss of customers. Half a mil is loose change for Macy's. Like all of you, I was shocked and disgusted by the revelations in Attorney General Eric Schneiderman’s report that roughly 40 percent of the $570 million raised by non-profits in the Hurricane Sandy relief efforts have yet to be given out to storm victims. This is unacceptable and I commend the Attorney General for making public the malfeasance of these non-profit organizations in keeping the charitable donations of good people looking to help those in need for themselves. There are residents still in dire straits one year after Sandy: families are still paying mortgages and real property taxes on the storm-ravaged homes they are unable to inhabit and thousands of people dislocated from the neighborhoods and communities they have lived in for years.Shame on these “charitable” organizations for keeping millions in donations earmarked for victims of Superstorm Sandy in their coffers while thousands struggling in the wake of a devastating natural disaster have their cries for help go unheeded. Schneiderman ignores casino-measure stench - (By John Sullivan VIA NY POST) To game or not to game? That should be the question — “Shall casino gambling be allowed in New York?” — on this fall’s ballot. Editorial Alarming Abuses of Medical Credit Cards By THE EDITORIAL BOARD Published: October 19, 2013 Patients around the nation are being victimized by medical credit cards that can lead to financial calamity. These cards, issued by specialty finance companies as well as commercial banks, carry exorbitant interest rates after an initial period of zero interest expires — with heavy penalties for late payments. They are often pushed on patients with modest incomes by health care providers who want to make sure that they get paid, even if some of their patients end up with huge credit card bills they can’t afford. Unless strong regulatory action is taken to curb the abuses, financial companies will continue to gouge consumers at their most vulnerable moments, when they are in pain and need medical attention. The Wall Street Banksters Are Buying Their Way Out Of Jail JPMorgan to pay record $13 bn to settle US probes: WSJ AFP Washington (AFP) - Banking giant JPMorgan Chase reached a tentative agreement to pay a record $13 billion fine to the Justice Department to settle probes into its residential mortgage-backed securities, US media reported on Saturday. Citing sources familiar with the decision, The Wall Street Journal newspaper reported in its online edition that the deal was hashed out during a phone call Friday with US Attorney General Eric Holder, his deputy Tony West and JPMorgan's top lawyer Stephen Cutler. If the amount is confirmed, it would be the largest ever paid by a US company in this type of settlement with the government. It's also significantly larger than JPMorgan's previous offer of $11 billion. But the still tentative deal wouldn't resolve a criminal investigation into the bank's activities being conducted by a court in Sacramento, California, the Journal said. berita hari ini : JPMorgan Reaches Record $13B US Mortgage Accord - Businessweek JPMorgan Chase & Co.’s record $13 billion deal to end U.S. probes of its mortgage-bond sales would free the nation’s largest bank from mounting civil disputes with the government while leaving a criminal inquiry unresolved. The tentative pact with the Department of Justice increased from an $11 billion proposal last month and would mark the largest amount paid by a financial firm in a settlement with the U.S. The deal wouldn’t release the bank from potential criminal liability, at the insistence of U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder, according to terms described by a person familiar with the talks, who asked not to be named because they were private. “To not get the waiver from criminal prosecution is not good,” said Nancy Bush, a bank analyst who founded NAB Research LLC in New Jersey. “What we’re looking for in a settlement of this size is certainty from things like the criminal prosecution of a company. We have seen the yard signs "repeal the safe act" - meaning it can't happen in our town - seriously - At a local traffic stop police cited a man for violating the state law having too many rounds in a clap he stored in his glove compartment. He pointed out to the officer the clap and proved he had a valid permit. At an interview he stated the right to bear arms – for me he made the case it can happen in my town protecting children is our first priority. Complaints on Trump seminars extend south ORLANDO, Fla. – Sept. 16, 2013 – Kenneth Lafrate paid nearly $7,000 to learn real estate secrets marketed under the name of celebrity business mogul Donald Trump. The Leesburg, Fla., pool tech said the “Trump Institute” talked up “The Donald” in persuading him to pay $1,700 for a seminar at an Orlando-area hotel, plus $5,000 for follow-up mentoring. Lafrate complained to the state when he couldn’t get a refund five years ago. But it’s a recent New York State lawsuit against Trump that has gotten Florida authorities interested in his real estate seminars. Lafrate’s complaint to the Florida Attorney General’s Office was among dozens filed in 2008 against the now-defunct Trump Institute of Boca Raton, Fla., according to records obtained by the Orlando Sentinel. “After a lot of calls back and forth with them, one day they just vanished and I knew I’d been taken,” Lafrate said. “It (the seminar) was supposed to give you these insider secrets ...

N.Y. AG announces order against major tobacco companies post was shared by Legal Newsline and comes from legalnewsline.com New York Attorney General Eric Schneiderman announced Thursday that a panel of arbitrators threw out an $800 million claim brought by major tobacco companies against New York State. The arbitrators ordered the tobacco companies, known collectively as Big Tobacco, to pay New York State more than $92 million in money the companies allegedly withheld from their 2003 annual payment due under the 1998 tobacco Master Settlement Agreement. The arbitration panel rejected Big Tobacco’s demand for a significant reduction in its annual payment to New York. The claim alleged that New York State was not in full compliance with agreement obligations related to the taxation of cigarettes to or on Indian reservations. Consequently, Big Tobacco alleged the state was not entitled to its complete payment. The arbitrators denied the claim, which could protect the state from billions of dollars in futur ...

New York's Attorney General on Thursday said he is investigating the fast food industry in the state after allegations of massive wage theft by employers affecting some of the lowest paid workers in America. The revelation also comes after a series of strikes and walk-outs by fast food workers in New York City as well as Detroit, Chicago, St Louis and Milwaukee in recent weeks. The protests have been aimed at highlighting low wages and anti-union intimidation. A report, conducted by research firm Anzalone over the last three months, found that some 84% of New York City fast food workers claimed to have been victims of some form of wage theft. Damien LaVera, a spokesman for New York State Attorney General Eric Schneiderman, said the report's findings were "deeply troubling" news. "We take the allegations seriously, which is why our office is investigating fast food franchisees. New Yorkers expect companies doing business in our state to follow laws set up to protect working families," he added. The report ...

BLACK AGENDA 2013 KEEP THE PRESSURE ON! © By Alton H. Maddox, Jr. Only an insane people can expect one person to stand up and successfully fight white supremacy. If a white woman was threatened by one Black person, every white male and female would be on this Black person like white on rice. White supremacy would prompt each white person to act. This is the importance of a philosophy. Acting with white judges, prosecutors and attorneys, Steven Pagones has been able to secure a bogus, default judgment which, because of the long arm of the law and the Full Faith and Credit Clause, will allow him, if not stopped, to "pickpocket" a quarter out of every dollar that Tawana Brawley earns for the rest of her life. I have written a letter to Eric Schneiderman, the New York State Attorney General, to prevent a miscarriage of justice in the exploitation of a default judgment in Pagones v. As the minimum wage was $7.15 an hour for the period in question, over the years he cheated his workers out of tens of thousands of dollars. Coming on the heels of Eric Schneiderman's civil suit against JP Morgan CEO Jamie Dimon, some bloggers are announcing that he's also just been indicted by the FBI. It should be borne in mind that one of these announcers is a Reuters blogger, and Reuters is one of the news outlets that is well known to be wholly owned by the Rothschilds. So even if Dimon goes down in flames, he is serving merely as a well-timed election year diversion. Much like the relative position of JP Morgan himself, who at the time of his death only owned 19% of the financial firm that still bears his name, Dimon is a mere pawn of the Rothschild banking cartel. The real baddies are still in charge and intend to remain so, working from the shadows and putting on puppet shows for the populace using their wholly-owned mainstream media empire.
