Equal Rights Amendment & Republican Party
The Equal Rights Amendment (ERA) was a proposed amendment to the United States Constitution. The ERA was originally written by Alice Paul and, in 1923, it was introduced in the Congress for the first time. The Republican Party is one of the two major contemporary political parties in the United States, along with the Democratic Party. /5

Hey, today was Richard Nixon's 100th birthday! Did you know that Nixon signed the Clean Air Act, supported the Equal Rights Amendment, and advocated for mandatory employer-provided health care and an expansion of Medicare? I know! He'd never fit in with today's Republican Party. No, not because he's too liberal . . . because he wasn't corrupt enough! *rimshot*
100 years ago today, Richard Nixon was born. During his 1st term as President he supported the creation of; the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), the Clean Air Act, the Equal Rights Amendment (ERA), and other Affirmative Action programs. Oh, and did I mention he was a Republican? As President, he was also the head of the Republican Party. The Republican Party of today is nothing like the Republican Party of just 40 years ago. Just something to realize, and think about.
Michael Moore's letter about the passing of Helen Milliken, a Republican from a time before the political hostage-taking of the Republican Party. Thanks to Helen Milliken for her support of the Traverse City Film Festival. Friends, This morning, one of the great women of this great country passed away. Helen Milliken, an outspoken advocate for the arts, for women's rights, for all things Michigan, was far more than just the "first lady" of our state for 14 years. She was a fearless leader during a time when such a thing was in short supply. She was the real deal -- honest, compassionate, humble, and unmovable when it came to her belief that the poor, the downtrodden, the cast-offs of our society must have a seat at the table with everyone else. She was a visionary long before it became acceptable to take a stand for the equal treatment of women. She stood on the front lines with the great civil rights leaders of our time, was an early environmentalist, and she was among the first to push for an Equal Righ ...

Nixon accomplished the following, according to then-Republican party line: Supported the creation of and signed into law the ERA (Equal Rights Amendment) Ended segregation Ended revenue sharing Ended the draft Passed new anti-crime laws Passed new anti-gun laws Proposed (with full support of the Republican Party of the day) more regulation on corporations and industries than any president before or since Started the process of ending the Cold War Recognized and fought against foreign oil price gouging Implemented a broad environmental program (Diverting war funds from Vietnam to create the EPA (Environmental Protection Agency) The only President to achieve a balanced national budget between 1961 and 1998. Visited Beijing and Moscow in 1972 and reduced tensions with China and the USSR. Produced a treaty to limit strategic nuclear weapons in the USA and USSR. January 1973: Nixon announced an accord with North Vietnam to end American involvement in Indochina. 1974, his Secretary of Stat ...
May I be honest with you? I don't give a *** about "binders full of women". Here's what I care about--a lot--& frankly so should you: Romney didn't proactively request those binders, as he said he did; they were provided by an outside group. Another lie. Secondly, he was dodging the question which he'd just been asked, i.e. whether he supports the Lily Ledbetter Fair Pay Act; the most he's been saying is that he wouldn't go out of the way to reverse it now--& the guy he chose as his running mate voted AGAINST it. This is the same crowd who fought, tooth & nail, against the Equal Rights Amendment for women in the 70's. THIRDLY, requesting OR accepting such a binder, as compared with actual women job applicants, was Affirmative Action 101--which the Republican Party always shrieks against, at the top of their lungs. More breathtaking hypocrisy!! Wake the fAmerica!!! Wake the f
1. Wonen’s Equality Day This Sunday Here is a message from Senator Menendea Dear Friend, As we near Women’s Equality Day on Sunday, I can’t help but think about two special New Jersey women who were trailblazers when it came to showing me what women can achieve: my mother Evangelina Menendez, who fled Cuba in search of democracy and a better life for her children, and New Jersey’s own Alice Paul who worked all of her life for women’s equality and wrote the first Equal Rights Amendment. But this year, as we celebrate Women’s Equality Day, women’s rights and freedoms are being threatened. We find ourselves re-fighting old battles to keep right-wing Republicans, dead-set on pushing a radical political agenda that is anti-women, anti-choice, and anti-equality, from turning back the clock on half-a-century of progress for women. We can’t let them win. Now, more than ever, we have to stand together against those in the far right of the Republican Party who want to revisit reproductive rights and ...
Nixon also created the Environmental Protection Agency, and endorsed The Equal Rights Amendment. It is a measure of how extreme the Republican Party has become when "Tricky *** begins to seem like a compassionate liberal.
