Elizabeth Chase Olsen (born February 16, 1989) is an American actress. She is best known for her lead roles in the films Martha Marcy May Marlene and Silent House. Her performance in the former netted her critical acclaim and numerous award nominations. She is the younger sister of Mary-Kate Olsen, Ashley Olsen, and Trent Olsen and has two younger siblings Courtney Taylor Olsen and Jake Olsen.

Just finished watching Josh Radnor's (from How I Met Your Mother) second film 'Liberal Arts'that he wrote, directed and starred in. Full of literary references and classical music, it's a film so smug and full of itself and its own importance, that it will primarly appeal to indie film lovers, pretentious students and bourgeois coffee drinkers!! Needless to say I loved every minute of it!! Great performance by Elizabeth Olsen as the young student, who Radnor can't decide about, due to the moral implication of dating someone 16yrs younger. (I can relate!!) Radnor's relationships and chemistry with all the lead protagonists shines through however and it's obvious he has reached into his own life for some of the subtext of the film. Ultimately, I think it's a film about looking to the past, so that we can move on with our lives. Gave me food for thought... which is never a bad thing!!

THIS isn't really a review. or maybe it its, i dunno. The movie is Silent House. this is interesting from a technical POV as it is shot as one continuous take, with the cuts carefully blended into the fabric of the movie. (see Alfred Hitchcock's "The Rope") I listened to the commentary and i guess this was an incredibly difficult movie to make as there were no conventional "cuts" or opportunities to re do a scene. if a mistake was made 15 minutes into the take, (and i guess there were many of these) they had to reset and re do the whole 15 min plus. FYI the main character is Elizabeth Olsen sister of Mary Kate and ashley. The plot: at first it seems like your average haunted house, home intruder, beautiful-girl-in-jeopardy film but it is much more. Skipped my morning movies at Sundance today, because I was too sleep-deprived. Went on to see two great movies, both of which were, in a sense, throwbacks to my adolescence. "Lasting" is a Polish movie about two college-age kids from Poland who spend the summer and fall in Spain to do menial jobs like picking grapes. During the Q&A, a woman asked the director if young people from Poland actually do that. The answer was of course yes. The interesting thing is that this exactly what young people from countries like Germany or the Netherlands did during my youth, that is, in the 1960's and 70's. The other movie was "Very Good Girls", a coming-of-age stories with Dakota Fanning and Elizabeth Olsen. In one of the girls' room, there is a poster on the wall of the 1962 Truffaut movie "Jules and Jim". My grade for Liberal Arts is a B, star/director/writer Josh Radnor puts together a wonderful coming of age film with some laughs but is more about literature modern and present. Radnor isn't a great lead but because this film is his little baby and I'm sure was a tough venture for him I will give him kudos for not being bad. The supporting cast were excellent led by Elizabeth Olsen, Richard Jenkins, Alison Janney, Elizabeth Reaser, John Margaro and ZacEfron with Olsen being a standout and a scene stealer, she is outstanding as the impatient beauty Zibby.

Watched the original Silent House. The story is similar but the outcome is very different. I didn't care for either version - the remake stars Elizabeth Olsen - but I liked the Spanish-language version a bit better because it was more brutal. LOL. Getting Savages and The Watch on DVD. My grade for Red Lights is a B-, very confusing film but what a cast lead by Robert Deniro, Cillian Murphy, Sigourney Weaver, Elizabeth Olsen and Toby Jones. Murphy and DeNiro are standouts. the film being so confusing left me somewhat lost and finding a reason to continue watching, Im glad I continuedcause it had a satisfying ending.
