The Amazing Criswell 1907-1982- Jeron Criswell Konig (later, Jeron Criswell King, 1907-1982), the first celebrity psychic. Raised in a family of morticians, after some early work in radio and newspapers, in 1953 he began featuring predictions of the future in local ads for “Criswell Family Vitamins” on KLAC TV (Los Angeles). The spots were so popular the station gave him his own TV show called Criswell Predicts, which ran from 1953 through 1961. The show became his springboard for local fame, and he became good friends with people like Liberace, Korla Pandit, and Mae West, who wrote and sang a song about him called “Criswell Predicts” on her 1955 album The Fabulous Mae West. Criswell’s fame was still local when notorious grade z director Ed Wood tapped him to narrate Plan 9 from Outer Space in 1956, where he fit tight into a cast that also included Tor Johnson, fellow local celebrity Vampira, and former “A list” movie stars Bela Lugosi and Lyle Talbot. Johnny Depp Over the Years Johnny Depp is an actor and musician. He rose to prominence in the 1980s television series “21 Jump Street”. He began his acting career with his major role in the horror film A Nightmare on Elm Street. The success of Tim Burton’s movie Edward Scissorhands in which he undertook the quirky title role, marked his long association with Burton. Later, he found box office success in films like Sleepy Hollow, Pirates of the Caribbean series, and Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. His portrayals as George Jung in Blow, Hunter S. Thompson in Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas, or Edward D. Wood, Jr., in Ed Wood have highly appreciated. The actor has been nominated for top awards many times, including an Academy Award for Best Actor for playing J. M. Top Ten “Bad” Movies Lots of choices here… going for the truly horrible as opposed to the so-bad-it’s-good motif… 1- PLAN 9 FROM Outer Space (1959, US, Ed Wood) Ironic Tim Burton made a great film about a bad director… from a career rich in are-you-kidding bad, this is probably the best of the worst… I mean the worst of the worst… “You see? You see? Your stupid minds! Stupid! Stupid!”… a film so bad it killed Bela Lugosi! 2- BATTLEFIELD EARTH (2000, US, Roger Christian) A Scientology documentary… now that’s scary… no wonder Travolta’s been trying to get away from these whackos 3- CALIGULA (1979, Italy, Tinto Brass) OK, this will be the only time you will ever see the name Tinto Brass on these lists… a film of staggering awfulness… even the sex scenes “suck”… hope Peter O’Toole was paid a small fortune for appearing in this 4- REEFER MADNESS (1936, US, Louis Gasnier) Worth inclusion on this list just for the look on the “new guy”’s face when he first gets ...
George “The Animal” Steele: Ed Wood Both of them got started in the wrestling ring as heels (bad guys), equipped with not only the ability to survive between the ropes, but a physical look that opponents and fans wouldn’t soon forget. Both of them eventually stepped before cameras and onto screens of slightly larger sizes. And today, long after their respective careers have ended, both still are, and always will be, remembered by fans of film and the mat, though sadly, only one is still around to enjoy it. In hindsight, it seems the epitome of illogic that anyone but George “The Animal” Steele could become Tor Johnson in the underrated Ed Wood. Johnson first stepped into the national spotlight in the 1920s and 30s, and made it into movies shortly thereafter, often playing wrestlers. But it was his ghoulish turn as detective-turned-zombie Daniel Clay in the horrifyingly legendary Plan 9 From Outer Space that pushed him higher than ever before, and has kept him there, four decades after his 1971 p ...
Reason 3: Neat cast, no regulars. Still Danny Elfman doing the music. :/ This is a spirtual Ed Wood sequel wish was Howard Shore again... :(
Whoa, I never knew Drusilla was Martin Landau's daughter. And she's in Ed Wood
I have to rank Ed Wood as one of my top favorite movies. Great and touching performance by Martin Landau. Beautiful cinematography too.
How many Ed Wood films did Peter Graves star in ? Sheesh
Often in film directors and actor's form lasting relationships that result in repeated collaborations. Depp/Burton. DiCaprio/Scorsese. De Niro/Scorsese. Crowe/Scott. Russell/Cooper. Fassbender/McQueen. Nolan/Bale. Talk about fantasy collaborations between famous pairings. Here are five of mine. They vary from being somewhat based in reality to just wishful thinking. 1. Scorsese/DiCaprio - Teddy Roosevelt. This one was/is in the works. A biopic of the former U.S. president (and most bad *** human being to ever walk the earth) Theodore Roosevelt. The man's life is something out of a fantasy adventure. I really hope this comes to fruition. 2. Burton/Depp - Dr. Seuss. I've heard rumors of Depp playing the famed children's author and who better to direct than the off beat Burton? It's hit or miss when these two work together. It can be genius (Ed Wood, Sweeney Todd) or phenomenally dissapointing (Dark Shadows, Alice in Wonderland). I think this would be the former. 3. Cronenberg/Mortensen - Leonardo Da Vinci . ...
Ed Wood's "Plan 9 from Outer Space" playing at The Laird. Awesome movie, but not my first choice for a leather/bear bar...
Every single scene with Bill Murray in Ed Wood is perfect.
Ed Wood is a really good movie and definitely my favorite Tim Burton movie
