NHL Predictions 2013-2014 Atlantic Division: 1. Boston Bruins: Coming off the Stanley Cup finals, the Bruins traded young star Tyler Seguin to the Stars for consistent Loui Eriksson and signed Jarome Iginla (who last year declined a trade to the Bruins). Anyways, the Bruins still have their core from last season and will remain a contender to win the Eastern Conference. 2. Detroit Red Wings: Towards the end of last season, on the playoff bubble, the Red Wings played excellent hockey and nearly defeated the eventual Cup winning Blackhawks in the second round. A switch to the Eastern conference and signing of old swede Daniel Alfredsson will keep the Red Wings a threat in the Eastern Conference. 3. Montreal Canadiens: The Canadiens went from 15th to 2nd in one year thanks to rookies Alex Galchenyuk and Brendan Gallagher and the rise of PK Subban. I think the Habs can make a nice playoff run if goaltender Carey Price is more consistent 4. Ottawa Senators: Through a season where their stars were injured, Otta ...
The Pittsburgh Penguins advance to the Eastern Conference finals with a 6-2 win over the Ottawa Senators in Game 5 in Pittsburgh. James Neal had a hat trick and the Pens fairly easily powered through this one.
Bruins bounce back for 4-2 win over Maple Leafs BOSTON (AP) — A two-goal lead was down to one, and suddenly the Boston Bruins were trying to avoid another third-period collapse. ‘‘At least we didn’t sit back; we didn’t panic; our guys responded well,’’ Bruins coach Claude Julien said Thursday night after Boston snapped a two-game losing streak with a 4-2 victory over the Toronto Maple Leafs. ‘‘When they made it 3-2 ... we looked more like the team we were before than we did the last couple of games.’’ Tyler Seguin had two goals and an assist and Patrice Bergeron had one of each as the Bruins recovered from back-to-back blown leads to beat Toronto and hold onto the No. 2 point total in the Eastern Conference. David Krejci also scored for Boston, Brad Marchand had a pair of assists and Anton Khudobin stopped 25 shots. ‘‘Today was a great third period,’’ said Khudobin, who was subbing for starter Tuukka Rask while the Bruins play 20 games in 36 days. ‘‘We learned from (the p ...
Team Scope: Bruins: This will be Boston's 20th game of the season. The Bruins have games in hand on every other NHL team, including three on the Canadiens, who moved into first place not only in the Northeast but the entire Eastern Conference after their come-from-behind 4-3 win Sunday night at TD Garden. Things turned physical in the second period after goals by Patrice Bergeron and Dougie Hamilton gave the Bruins a temporary 3-2 lead, and Zdeno Chara wound up taking 17 minutes in penalties in an altercation following a hit by Alexei Emelin on Tyler Seguin. "Definitely, Zee's the best defenseman in the League and when he’s not on the ice, it's a huge advantage to the other team," forward Brad Marchand, who assisted on all three goals Sunday, told the Bruins' official website. "But at the same time, guys have to step up in that situation when someone stands up for a teammate the way that Zee did, we all have to step up and make sure that we back him up and we didn't do that tonight."
