Each week, our stable of NBA experts will take a close look at the big issues in the NBA.We've reached the halfway point of the season, so the Starting Five decided to go into prediction mode... As things stand right now, who wins the Eastern Conference? Simon Legg - NBA Australia: Washington I'd like to start this by saying that it's January so there's no need for any backlash! It's simply a midseason check in. I understand that most of the Starting Five crew will look at Chicago, and why not? Tom Thibodeau finally has his most talented roster, Derrick Rose is back, Jimmy Butler continues to rise, but what about the team that causes them serious problems...? So, that brings me to the Wizards! We all know what happened in the playoffs, the Wizards dismantled the Bulls in five games. Marcin Gortat and Nene had their way with the Bulls' frontcourt, and that hasn't changed to begin this season, even with the addition of Pau Gasol. Plus, can you bank on Chicago being fit? They've played 42 games this seaso .. ...
LATE FRIDAY NIGHT RANT: The Bulls are having a pretty good season. Compared to the rest of Eastern Conference they are doing well. They are third to only the Heat and Pacers heading into this season's wrap up. We must understand one thing before they go into the playoffs. THEY ARE OVER ACHIEVERS. Tom Thibodeau is a great coach, who can make the best out of what he has. We have above average players, and maybe one star in Joakim Noah. But they play together, they don't quit, and they show up. They do however have tendencies of playing hero, and jack up some crazy shots. Not to mention some lapses on passes & defense. That said, the are still third in the East. And you can make an argument that the Bulls would be only tied for the last playoff spot, if they were in the West. Listen, they are not...So why worry about it? So my point to all of this is: Sit back and enjoy what the Bulls are doing, it's gonna be alright. Whatever they do from this point on is a plus. You never know what may happen.
Derrick Davis Jason Jordan Phillip White.. Chicago fans lets b patient The Chicago Bulls have won five of seven games and are creeping back to .500 and into the Eastern Conference playoff race -- they currently sit sixth at 14-18, with eight of their next nine opponents currently holding a record below .500. So while the 2013-14 season is still alive and well for Tom Thibodeau's group, who, when healthy, is arguably one of the five best teams in the Eastern Conference, they'll also want to keep an eye on how the Charlotte Bobcats fare in the second half of the season. That's because for the first time since 2010, the odds are in favor of the Bulls securing Charlotte's first-round pick as part of a deal for Tyrus Thomas nearly four years ago. On Feb. 18, 2010, the Bulls swung a trade-deadline deal with the Bobcats, sending Thomas to the Bobcats in exchange for Flip Murray, Acie Law and a protected, future first-round pick. The deal stipulated that the pick was lottery-protected (top-14) in 2012, and that y ...
(Sports Network) - If the Boston Celtics plan to take one more run at the top spot in the Eastern Conference, they will have to bring their A-game to the Windy City tonight against the Chicago Bulls. The Atlantic Division champion Celtics are three full games behind the Central kings, the Bulls, with just five games left in the regular season for both clubs. A loss tonight by Boston would all but eliminate the Cs in the race for the top seed. Its going to be like Game 1 of a playoff series between teams trying to get to the Finals, Celtics forward Jeff Green said. Weve just got to come out, focus on the defensive end, and be sure were ready to play. Playoffs is like the main course, Boston superstar Kevin Garnett added. This will definitely be the appetizer. In their last encounter on Tuesday the defending East champs dismantled long- time rival Philadelphia when Rajon Rondo finished with 16 points and 13 assists, as the Celtics used a dominant second half to beat the 76ers, 99-82, at TD Garden. Paul Pier ...
Erik Spoelstra's crap, Mike Woodson and Tom Thibodeau are both much better Eastern Conference coaches.
LeBron, West, Stephenson fined $5,000 for Game 4 flops Posted May 30, 2013 10:31 AM - Updated May 30, 2013 3:30 PM NEW YORK (AP) -- Miami's LeBron James and Indiana's David West and Lance Stephenson were all fined $5,000 by the NBA on Thursday for violating the league's anti-flopping policy. James and West were penalized for the same play during a messy Game 4 of the Eastern Conference finals. James spun and fell and West tumbled toward the baseline during what looked like a poorly choreographed dance routine as the NBA's MVP defended the Indiana forward. Stephenson was fined for exaggerating the contact after a slight elbow from Ray Allen following his basket, staggering back toward the sideline after making a short jumper. The NBA began fining players this year for trying to fool referees into calling fouls when there had been limited contact. "We accept it," Heat coach Erik Spoelstra said Thursday. "We don't want the attention or the focus to be on the officiating. We want it to be on the competition." ...
By: JOE COWLEY jcowleyNate Robinson. Arrivederci, Marco Belinelli. Good luck, Rip Hamilton. Hardly knew you, Daequan Cook. ‘‘We’ll see what the market calls for,’’ Bulls coach Tom Thibodeau said repeatedly Thursday, one day after the Miami Heat sent the Bulls home for summer vacation by topping them 4-1 in the Eastern Conference semifinals. What the market calls for is some painful losses in the backcourt, with Robinson, Belinelli and Cook all free agents and the Bulls holding a $5 million option on Hamilton that they have no intention of picking up. So who’s in and who’s out when it comes to the changing of the guards that’s about to occur this offseason? Unfortunately, the losses are going to hurt. WHO’S COMING BACK Derrick Rose Rose’s torn anterior cruciate ligament and the aftermath have been a public relations nightmare for the 2011 NBA MVP. The soap opera dragged on way too long. But all will be forgiven once Rose steps on the court next preseason — bigger, stronger and maybe e ...

Basketball Heat beat brave Bulls to reach Eastern final The Miami Heat reached their third straight Eastern Conference final after a 94-91 win over Chicago on Wednesday secured a 4-1 series victory for the defending NBA champions. Miami will face the winners of the series between the New York Knicks and the Indiana Pacers. Indiana currently lead 3-1 going into Thursday's Game Five in New York. A series that began with a Chicago upset win in Miami and included some fierce, physical encounters, ended with a strange game as Miami blew an 18-point first quarter lead but somehow managed to claw their way back to victory. "It was very challenging to be up like we were and then to be down like we were in second half. Mentally, we had to not get too high, not get too low in the whole game," said Miami's LeBron James, who ended with 23 points. "Emotionally, this game took a lot out of both teams," added the league MVP, who said he was left with "no energy". The Heat made a blistering start, putting up 10 unanswere ...

Sports Fast-Break for 5-14-2013 FLOP YOU: JAMES, HEAT FLIP OFF BULLS 88-65 One day after Chicago Bulls coach Tom Thibodeau was fined $35,000 in part for complaining that LeBron James flopped after being pushed by Bulls center Nazr Mohammad in Game 3, James and the Miami Heat flicked the Bulls away as if they were nothing more that pesky gnats in Game 4 on Monday, crushing Chicago 88-65 to take a 3-1 lead in the series. James finished with 27 points, while Miami’s stifling defense held the Bulls to a franchise-low point total in the playoffs. Injuries happen all the time in sporting contests, and it isn't Tom Thibodeau's fault that Derrick Rose's knee gave out. The Bulls are still a scrappy team and though their chances may have been diminished by losing their star player, they made it this far and I don't think they will quit, even under overwhelming odds of them making it back to the Eastern Conference championship series again.
