Miroslav Šatan has announced that at the end of this year's IIHF Worlds tournament, he's retiring from playing competitive hockey. On July 3, 2008, Šatan signed a one-year contract with the Pittsburgh Penguins. During the 2008–09 season, Šatan was assigned to the Penguins' American Hockey League (AHL) affiliate, the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins. In Wilkes-Barre, Šatan had three goals and nine points in 10 games. Various reports credited him with being upbeat and a good influence, especially with the younger players. On April 10, 2009, Šatan was recalled by Pittsburgh and cleared re-entry waivers. Miroslav re-established himself with the Penguins in the playoffs when he played against the Washington Capitals in Game 5 of the Eastern Conference semi-finals on April 23, 2009. He then played in nine games and won his first ever Stanley Cup Championship as a member of the Penguins.
Rangers advance as Henrik Lundqvist wins record fifth straight Game 7 PITTSBURGH -- New York Rangers coach Alain Vigneault had trouble finding the words to describe goaltender Henrik Lundqvist. He obtained C Brandon Sutter and G Tomas Vokoun in offseason trades and later brought RW Jarome Iginla, LW Brenden Morrow, C Jussi Jokinen and D Douglas Murray to Pittsburgh in deals leading up to the trade deadline. The Thinking Cap Some Surprises, Some Not ... This much isn't surprising ... The Chicago Blackhawks and Boston Bruins are two evenly matched teams that appear on the verge of giving us a Stanley Cup Finals for the ages (finally). Two games, four overtime sessions and one win each. It's about all you can ask for from the two teams remaining. But after two games in Chicago, a few early surprises have emerged as this series shifts to Boston. Here's a Cap look: The Team That's Winning Isn't Winning the Beginning ... The B's never trailed against the Pittsburgh Penguins in their dominating performance in the Eastern Conference Finals, so their ability to hold a lead is well-established. Chicago broke through in Game 1, winning in triple-overtime despite never holding a lead in the game. Boston did the same thing in Game 2, surviving a ridiculous series of great shots and pressure early from the Blackhawks to even the series in overtime. Rask was the difference in Game 2, as it could have easily been 3 or 4 to ...

For all the bad mouthing the caps get, this is an interesting fact...Over the past three seasons, which team has played in more Stanley Cup playoff games? a. Pittsburgh Penguins b. Philadelphia Flyers c. New Jersey Devils d. Washington Capitals You guessed it. Thanks to the Boston Bruins’ four-game sweep of the Penguins, your beloved Capitals have played in more post-season games [30] than the Penguins [28], Devils [24] and Flyers [22]. In fact, only two teams in the Eastern Conference – the Bruins [48] and the Rangers [37] have played in more post-season games than the Caps over the past three springs.

This year in the conference finals the last four Stanley Cup Champion are facing off against one another. In the Western Conference: seeded Chicago Blackhawks face off against defending The Stanley Cup Champion and 5th seeded Los Angeles Kings. This is a matchup of two fierce young teams and could go either way. The Kings are known to be the upsetters but Chicago has proven themselves to be able to go the distance and be clutch when it is needed. That is why I see Chicago taking this series in 7 games. In the Eastern Conference: The seeded Pittsburgh Penguins face off against the 5th seeded Boston Bruins. Boston will be a tough challenge for Pittsburgh. Yet behind the leadership and drive of Jerome Iginla Pittsburgh takes this seies in 6. -Brad

Pittsburgh Penguins score 4 goals in third period, take 3-1 series lead VS Ottawa Senators. Sidney Crosby was careful not to get too far ahead of himself after helping the Pittsburgh Penguins rout the Ottawa Senators for a 3-1 lead in the Eastern Conference semifinal series. "I'm not talking about anything ahead of Game 5," the Pittsburgh captain said when asked about a potential Eastern Conference Final against the Boston Bruins. But after the Penguins' 7-3 victory Wednesday night, it's hard to imagine Crosby and his teammates aren't starting to think about facing the Bruins, who are up 3-0 over the New York Rangers. Jarome Iginla and James Neal each scored twice, Crosby, Chris Kunitz and Pascal Dupuis added goals, and Tomas Vokoun made 30 saves. Down 2-1 after the first period, the Penguins scored twice in a 40-second span early in the second and added four goals in the first 10 minutes of the third. Round 2 / the National Hockey League Conference SemiFinals / The Stanley Cup QuarterFinals (four wins needed): WEST Chicago Blackhawks - Detroit Red Wings L.A. There are 30 teams in the National Hockey League. There are 23 players on each team's major league roster. That equals 690 players in the NHL at all times. Right now, five Pittsburgh Penguins are in the top 24 in scoring: 1. Sidney Crosby- 11 goals, 25 assists, 36 points 3. Chris Kunitz- 12 goals, 16 assists, 28 points 14. 2 UNIT PLAY Toronto Maple Leafs @ Pittsburgh Penguins - PENGUINS -1.5 [Puck Line] (+146) (Note: I'm risking 2.00 units to win 2.92 units) The Toronto Maple Leafs started the season with a 2-1 win in Montreal and then went home to lose to Buffalo 2-1 in their home opener on Monday night. Toronto actually looked better in the game that they lost, but they didn't capitalize on scoring opportunities including power plays. The Pittsburgh Penguins have gotten off to a hot start with two road wins in Philadelphia (3-1) and New York (6-3). They now come home to play in their home opener in front of what should be an electric crowd. The Penguins have managed 9 goals in 2 games with Crosby only putting up 1 assist. James Neal has 3 goals while Malkin has 4 assists. Note that the Penguins led the Eastern Conference in home wins going 29-10-2 last season at home. The Maple Leafs were 17-21-3 on the road. Marc-Andre Fleury will most likely make his second start of the season, and he allowed just 1 goal against in his ...

This time 12 years ago Ann and I were in the South Shore Hospital. Ann was recently induced to start the deliver of Skyler who was now 9 days past due. Right around this time of the night... Ann's Epidural was working quite well and the Flyers were defeating the Pittsburgh Penguins 2-1 in Game 6 to move on to th Eastern Conference Finals. We (okay... I) had the game on in the hospital room. The rest of the Flyers story was forgettable that season... ironically they lost to NJ (sound familar) who eventually won the cup. Anyway, our little bundle arrived after a short labor (the intense part anyway) at 3:42 am on the 10th. Happy early birthday to our little miracle.

Rangers 4 - Jets 2 Brian Boyle found the perfect way to exact revenge against the Winnipeg Jets Wednesday night at the MTS Centre in the Rangers rousing 4-2 come-from-behind victory. After losing a capped tooth to an Andrew Ladd high stick late in the second period, Boyle snapped a 2-2 tie early in the third with his third goal in the past four games, lifting his club to a crucial victory. With the win the Rangers extended their lead atop the Eastern Conference to five points over the idle Pittsburgh Penguins. The Rangers have five games left to play, while the Penguins have six. Michael Del Zotto had a goal and two assists for the Rangers, who have now won three straight games and five of their last six. Ryan Callahan added a goal and an assist, and Marian Gaborik notched a pair of assists for the Blueshirts. After failing to score on the four-minute double-minor assesed to Ladd when he high sticked Boyle, the Rangers capitalized at even strength moments later. Boyle carried a defenseman on his back, and ...
