Rene Bourque had a hat trick and the Montreal Canadiens kept their playoff hopes alive with a 7-4 victory over the New York Rangers in Game 5 of the NHL's Eastern Conference Final. New York has a 3-2 series lead and would have advanced to the Stanley Cup Final with a victory. Alex Galchenyuk, Tomas Plekanec and Max Pacioretty also scored for Montreal. David Desharnais scored into an empty net for the Canadiens. Andrei Markov had three assists. Derek Stepan struck twice for the Rangers, while Rick Nash and Chris Kreider had goals too. Rangers advance as Henrik Lundqvist wins record fifth straight Game 7 PITTSBURGH -- New York Rangers coach Alain Vigneault had trouble finding the words to describe goaltender Henrik Lundqvist. "He's OK," Vigneault said finally with a small shake of his head. Except that is, in Game 7s. In Game 7s, Lundqvist is unbeatable. And so are the Rangers. Frustrating Sidney Crosby and the reeling Pittsburgh Penguins one final time, Lundqvist made 35 saves to lift New York to a 2-1 win on Tuesday night and give his resilient team an unlikely spot in the Eastern Conference Finals. Rangers band together for historic upset "I was so tired at the end," Lundqvist said after setting an NHL record with his fifth straight Game 7 triumph. "But it was just a great feeling when you know it's a done deal and we did it." Brian Boyle and Brad Richards scored for New York, which rallied from a 3-1 series deficit for the first time in the franchise's 88-year history. The Rangers did it behind Lundqvist, who stopped 102 of the fina ...

Mourning Martin St. Louis scores as Rangers force Game 7 vs. Pens Rangers Top Penguins To Even Series Martin St. Louis scored his third goal of the playoffs to lead the Rangers past the Penguins 3-1 and force a Game 7 in their playoff series. St. Louis came to New York in March in a deal in which popular team captain Ryan Callahan was shipped to Tampa Bay. When he didn't light up the scoreboard right away, the Madison Square Garden crowd was slow to warm to him. That all changed Sunday night. Three days after the sudden death of his mother, St. Louis scored 3:34 in, and the Rangers avoided elimination for the second straight game by beating the Pittsburgh Penguins 3-1. Game 7 of the Eastern Conference Semifinal series is Tuesday in Pittsburgh. New York advanced in the first round with a Game 7 win over Philadelphia. St. Louis rejoined his teammates for Game 5 in Pittsburgh on Friday, after a quick trip to Montreal to be with his family. That dedication inspired his teammates during a 5-1 win and carried o ...

If Phil Jackson takes a front office position of any type capacity for the Knicks don't expect Melo to still be around, unless he's sidekick. Melo isn't a Phil type player. But to coach the Knicks they'll have to release a lot of folk. People want to play for Phil. Never say never. And he's a New York guy. A former Knick. The Knicks got cheese. And if Dolan doesn't bother Phil which Phil gets that respect he could "Flip That House" into a contender in a soft Eastern Conference. LeBron is available have y'all forgot? Bron & Melo would be fire!!! Bron would have to pull a Judas move though and I don't see him as that kinda guy. Pat Riley & Phil HATE each other! Pat Riley feels Phil can only win with mega stars but hasn't won with average players. A lot of folk have that same mentality. This would be his way to prove the naysayers wrong.
Free Play from Stephen Nover New York Knicks vs. New Orleans Pelicans Play: New York Knicks +4 New Orleans had been playing well going into All-Star break winning eight of its last 13. And ordinarily I would like to play on a Western Conference club against a weak Eastern Conference foe, but circumstances are different here. The Knicks played last night. They rallied from an 18-point deficit before blowing a seven-point fourth quarter lead in a 98-93 road loss to Memphis. That was a frustrating loss for New York as the pressure mounts on Mike Woodson and Carmelo Anthony. But the Knicks didn't quit and now have the rust off. They also step down in class. The Grizzlies are 6 1/2 games better than New Orleans and have been playing extremely well winning 10 of their last 13. The Pelicans last played a week ago. That's way too long of a period to sit around in today's NBA. New Orleans doesn't have great incentive either playing in the much more difficult conference where it is 7 1/2 games out of the final play ...
FROM BEYOND THE ARC By: Police Chief Inspector Rico C Santotome Jr (OS), RN, MPM Very Alarming Skid For The Los Angeles Lakers Among the 30 National Basketball Association teams in the 2013-14 season, the Los Angeles Lakersare dangerously on a skid and are bunched in the lower half of the team standings with the Tinseltown squad losing nine of their last 10 games. As of Saturday, LA is just a few games ahead of last-placed teams Sacramento (12-22) and Utah (12-26) in the Western Conference. Good thing for the 14-23 (win-loss) Lakers, they are a couple of games better than Eastern Conference quintets like New York (13-22), Cleveland (13-23), Boston (13-24), Philadelphia (12-24), Orlando (10-26) and Milwaukee (7-28) although these teams are also projected to miss the postseason with the way they lose game after game in Season 68. The Lakers are 8-10 at the Staples Center while going 6-of-13 on the road. Coach Mike D'Antoni's wards actually lost 10 of their last 11 assignments starting with a six-game losing ...
Carmelo Anthony scored 24 points, Andrea Bargnani had 19, and the New York Knicks beat the Miami Heat 102-92 on Thursday night for their season-high third straight victory. Cleveland Cavaliers guard Kyrie Irving was named today as the NBA’s Eastern Conference Player of the Week for games played Monday, December 9th through Sunday, December 15th. In three games during the week, Irving averaged 29.0 points on .508 (32-63) shooting, including .409 (9-22) from beyond the arc and .933 (14-15) from the foul line, 6.3 assists and 2.3 steals in 34.3 minutes per game. His 29.0 points per game average was the highest among all Eastern Conference guards this week and second-highest among all East players. He posted the highest field goal percentage among all players in the conference who had at least a 21.0 points per game average (minimum three games). This past week, he was also one of two players in the East to record multiple 30-point games and the only one to record at least 30 points and 10 assists in a single game. Irving wins the award for the second time of his career (Jan. 21-27, 2013) as Cleveland had a 2-1 record this past week and is 5-2 in its last seven games. In the . ...
Tuesday Three Heat and Pacers Too bad this game is on NBA TV. The 16-5 Miami Heat travel to Indiana for a date with the 18-3 Pacers. This budding rivalry started in the playoffs two years ago and these two teams should once again meet for the Eastern Conference title. Heisman Finalists Six players will be in New York for the Heisman Trophy celebration. Here are my top 3: Jameis Winston of FSU, Tre Mason of Auburn, Andre Williams of BC. Da Coach Chicago Bears player and former coach Mike Ditka had his jersey retired last night. One of the coolest guys on the block, he certainly deserves this honor. Congrats, coach Ditka!
There is nothing more pleasantly surprising than seeing both New York teams tied for second to last in the entire Eastern Conference...yes, 2ND TO LAST??? I mean Charlotte has a better record than both New York Knicks & Brooklyn Nets...lol..And they are both lucky, bec Milwaukee had not lost to Portland today, they would be tied at last place... .Who wudda thunk it!!!
Albany Devils Goaltender Keith Kinkaid has been named The AHL Player of the Week! Albany is currently ranked 6th in the AHL's Eastern Conference so if the Devils keep performing this well, this may be the first time in Albany's history (second time if you count when the Lowell Devils made it to the made it to the Playoffs in 2010 and before they moved the team to New York) that they could be Calder Cup contenders.
Seems as though the Eastern Conference is still Houston's to lose. Defeated New York Red Bulls 2-1 last night in extra time to take the aggregate 4-3. Omar Cummings goal being the difference.
His New York Red Bulls will be taking on Houston Dynamo in the first leg of their Eastern Conference semi-final.

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork/AP) — Struggling Rangers center Brad Richards was a healthy scratch Thursday night when New York stayed alive in the Stanley Cup playoffs with a 4-3 overtime victory in Game 4 of the Eastern Conference Semifinal series against the Boston Bruins.
Can Paul George, David West and the rest of the Indiana Pacers upset the favored Miami Heat? (AP photo) When everyone thought that the Eastern Conference will come down to Miami and New York in the Conference Finals, well here is Indiana spoiling the party. They see themselves as competitors in the Playoffs for a second consecutive season, but this time with much at stake – a spot in the NBA Finals. The Pacers won the season series 2-1. Together with New York, they were the only two teams that were able to beat Miami twice this season. The Pacers’ only loss came as they became among the Heat’s casualties in their historical 27-game winning streak. But they now face a newly improved Miami lineup. Let us take a closer look on these two teams heading into battle. Miami Heat As expected, the Heat were able to manhandle the Chicago Bulls by blowing them away in five games and winning 45 of their last 48 games. It was rough at the beginning and the Bulls eventually ran out of gas heading into the next gam ...
Basketball Heat beat brave Bulls to reach Eastern final The Miami Heat reached their third straight Eastern Conference Final after a 94-91 win over Chicago on Wednesday secured a 4-1 series victory for the defending NBA champions. Miami will face the winners of the series between the New York Knicks and the Indiana Pacers. Indiana currently lead 3-1 going into Thursday's Game Five in New York. A series that began with a Chicago upset win in Miami and included some fierce, physical encounters, ended with a strange game as Miami blew an 18-point first quarter lead but somehow managed to claw their way back to victory. "It was very challenging to be up like we were and then to be down like we were in second half. Mentally, we had to not get too high, not get too low in the whole game," said Miami's Lebron James, who ended with 23 points. "Emotionally, this game took a lot out of both teams," added the league MVP, who said he was left with "no energy". The Heat made a blistering start, putting up 10 unanswere ...
The Miami Heat hold off the Chicago Bulls to advance to their third straight NBA Eastern Conference Finals. Lebron James scored 23 points, Dwayne Wade added 18 and had a brilliant 45-second sequence that proved crucial, and the Heat clawed back from an 11-point second-half deficit to beat the Chicago Bulls 94-91 and close out their second-round series in five games. The Heat outscored Chicago 25-14 in the fourth quarter to escape and advance. And Miami moved on, now halfway home in its quest for a second straight National Basketball Association Champion title. Carlos Boozer finished with 26 points and 14 rebounds for the Bulls, who were without Derrick Rose for the 99th straight game. Nate Robinson scored 21 points, Jimmy Butler had 19, and Richard Hamilton 15 for the Bulls. The Heat will almost surely be big favorites against either Indiana or New York, though it's certain either opponent would enter a series against Miami with plenty of confidence. The Knicks went 3-1 against the Heat this season, outsc ...
UNIONDALE, N.Y. -- The Penguins fell to the New York Islanders, 6-4, tonight at Nassau Coliseum, leaving the top seed in the Eastern Conference tied, 2-2, in the first-round playoff series with No. 8 New York.
The New York Knicks and Oklahoma City Thunder are both positioning themselves for playoff runs. The Knicks are in second place in the Eastern Conference standings, but only by a half game. The Indiana Pacers are right on the heels of New York, who looked like world beaters a few weeks into the sea...
CONGRATULATIONS TO, The Montreal Canadiens who have scored 20,000 goals in the NHL, yesterday, when Captain Brian Gionta scored a power play goal early in the 3rd period on New York Islanders Evgeni Nabokov in Nassau Coliseum, New York. The goal was helped by defenseman P.K. Subban and newly re-acquired Right Winger Michael Ryder at 13:53 to go in the 3rd period. Even though the game was a 3-6 loss, the Montreal Canadiens walk away with their heads high with self-critical thinking after a 11-game unbeaten streak ended while still topping the East in a close race for first in the Northeast division and the overall Eastern Conference. GO Habs GO!
Bulls chosen Tim Duncan was selected to his 14th All-Star game, Spurs teammate Tony Parker is joining him, and the Chicago Bulls also had two reserves chosen Thursday for next month's game in Houston. Joakim Noah and Luol Deng were picked from the Bulls, who have stayed in the thick of the Eastern Conference playoff race despite the season-long absence of point guard Derrick Rose. Noah is one of five first-time All-Stars for the East, along with New York's Tyson Chandler, Indiana's Paul George, Cleveland's Kyrie Irving, and Philadelphia's Jrue Holiday. Miami's Chris Bosh, picked for his eighth All-Star team, rounded out the East squad. West forwards David Lee (Golden State), LaMarcus Aldridge (Portland) and Zach Randolph (Memphis) all were picked for the second time. Houston's James Harden was chosen for the first time and joins former Oklahoma City teammate Russell Westbrook, headed to his third straight All-Star game. Duncan wasn't chosen last year for the first time in his career but has bounced back w ...
Basketball Anthony fires Knicks to win over Celtics Carmelo Anthony and Kevin Garnett showed no signs of any lingering bad blood between them as the New York Knicks snapped their 11-game losing streak in Boston with a 89-86 win over the Celtics on Thursday. New York's Anthony and Boston's Garnett had jawed at each other throughout a testy contest earlier this month, which continued after the game when Anthony tried to confront Garnett at the Boston team bus. Anthony received a one-game suspension for his role in the incident. On Thursday, the pair exchanged a fist bump before the tip-off and were all about business. Anthony led the way with a game-high 28 points while Amar'e Stoudemire, Jason Kidd and Iman Shumpert all reached double figures to help the Knicks (26-14) cement their place at the top of the Eastern Conference's Atlantic Division. Garnett was restricted to just eight points, but also contributed 12 rebounds for Boston. Celtics point guard Rajon Rondo added 23 points, 10 rebounds and 11 assist ...
2 UNIT PLAY Toronto Maple Leafs @ Pittsburgh Penguins - PENGUINS -1.5 [Puck Line] (+146) (Note: I'm risking 2.00 units to win 2.92 units) The Toronto Maple Leafs started the season with a 2-1 win in Montreal and then went home to lose to Buffalo 2-1 in their home opener on Monday night. Toronto actually looked better in the game that they lost, but they didn't capitalize on scoring opportunities including power plays. The Pittsburgh Penguins have gotten off to a hot start with two road wins in Philadelphia (3-1) and New York (6-3). They now come home to play in their home opener in front of what should be an electric crowd. The Penguins have managed 9 goals in 2 games with Crosby only putting up 1 assist. James Neal has 3 goals while Malkin has 4 assists. Note that the Penguins led the Eastern Conference in home wins going 29-10-2 last season at home. The Maple Leafs were 17-21-3 on the road. Marc-Andre Fleury will most likely make his second start of the season, and he allowed just 1 goal against in his ...
Both Teams Have Won Two Straight The Boston Celtics (16-17) will play against a top-four Eastern Conference team tonight for the third time in four days. Tip-off is set for 7:30 p.m. in Madison Square Garden against the New York Knicks (23-10), who are currently atop the Atlantic Division. Both the Celtics and the Knicks are in the midst of two-game winning streaks. Boston is riding high after monumental victories over the Pacers on Friday and the Hawks on Saturday. New York, meanwhile, grabbed a big win over the Spurs Thursday night and then rallied to down the Magic 114-106 Saturday night in Orlando.
Eastern Notes: Knicks, Magic, Vucevic, Carlesimo Lakers coach and former Knicks boss Mike D'Antoni was a little thrown by Amare Stoudemire's recent assertion that he was never taught defense before this year, as Newsday's Al Iannazzone documents. D'Antoni, who coached Stoudemire in New York and Phoenix, said he didn't think Stoudemire meant to be malicious, but still found the comment "mind-boggling" and implied that Stoudemire threw him and his assistant coaches with the Knicks under the bus. Here's more from around the Eastern Conference. We heard earlier today that the Magic, unsurprisingly, will not try to sign Dwight Howard in the offseason, and Brian Schmitz of the Orlando Sentinel reports that the team isn't interested in acquiring fellow Dan Fegan client DeMarcus Cousins, either. Schmitz also writes that Nikola Vucevic is off the market unless a team "blows away" the Magic with a proposal (and a Cousins offer wouldn't qualify). Still, Schmitz wonders if Orlando could swap him for a marquee talent ...
Basketball Without Anthony, Knicks crush Heat in Miami The Miami Heat suffered their worst home defeat of the 'Big Three' era as the defending NBA champions crashed to a 112-92 loss to a New York Knicks team without their star forward Carmelo Anthony. The Knicks have sole leadership of the Eastern Conference with a 14-4 record, ahead of the Heat who slip to 12-5, having also lost by 20 points to the Knicks in New York on November 2. Raymond Felton top-scored for New York with 27 points, including six of 10 on three-point throws, as the Knicks flourished despite the absence of Anthony, who has an injured finger on his non-shooting left hand. "It was a total team effort from everyone that played," said Knicks head coach Mike Woodson. "Across the board I think our defence was solid for 48 minutes. I thought offensively our flow was good and guys made shots." For the Heat, Lebron James put up 31 points with 10 rebounds and nine assists but it was a quiet night for Dwyane Wade, who was three-of-13 from the fie ...
New York: There’s something special brewing with the 2012-13 Knicks. J.R. Smith drilled a game-winner on Wednesday night to extend New York’s winning streak to four games and place them atop the Eastern Conference. Remarkably, the team accomplished the feat without Carmelo Anthony on the floor for the final two minutes of the contest and Raymond Felton was dealing with an injured left hand, and Jason Kidd just returned from a four-game absence due to back spasms. Oh, and by the way, the Knicks are still missing the services of Amar’e Stoudemire and Iman Shumpert. At 13-4, New York is finding the right chemistry on the floor and inside the locker room while jumping out to a special start to the season. In the midst of a three-game road trip, the Knicks may face their toughest task in Miami on Thursday night. Anthony has a laceration on his middle finger, which required five stitches. The All-Star told reporters he will see how it feels on Thursday before making a final decision on his availability fo ...
New York farm team, The Whale weekly. The Whale (9-9-2-0, 20 pts.) were 0-2-1-0 in three games this past week. In Friday night’s visit to Providence, Connecticut was up 1-0 and 2-1, but the Bruins scored the final three goals of the game to ice a 4-2 win. The Whale then had a 3-0 in the third period at home Saturday night against Eastern Conference co-leading Syracuse, only to see the Crunch storm back for a 4-3 overtime victory. Sunday saw the Springfield Falcons come into the XL Center and shut the Whale out, 5-0. Chad Kolarik Friday had his second multiple-goal game in three games, scoring twice, and also chipped in an assist in Saturday’s contest. For the latest AHL standings, click here. This week: The Whale play their first midweek home game of the season Wednesday night, as the Bridgeport Sound Tigers invade the XL Center for a 7:00 PM game. Then Connecticut travels to Manchester for its first meeting of the year with the Monarchs Saturday night (7:00), before returning home for a second consec ...
New York general manager Jerôme de Bontin moved from his hotel in Hoboken, N.J. into the safety of Red Bull Arena four days ago to prepare for Hurricane Sandy's arrival. He experienced first-hand howthe massive storm enveloped the stadium, but spared its integrity and its roof. He saw how the deft work of stadium personnel preserved and protected the playing surface. He watched as the power went out and the water seeped into some of the permanent structures. The trials of the past few daysmade one thing quite clear to de Bontin: it would be a difficult, if not impossible, task to host the first leg of the Eastern Conference Semifinal against D.C. United on Saturdaynight with the ongoing issues at the stadium and the wider logistical concerns throughout the New York metropolitan area. "In conversations with Major League Soccer and the local authorities, we felt, at the end of the day, it was in all parties'best interests to find a suitable alternative," de Bontinsaid during a conference call on Wednesday ...
TNT's Charles Barkley: Celtics have legit chance to beat Miami Heat in East The Miami Heat may be the homecoming kings, but the Boston Celtics are still in the court. During a Tuesday afternoon conference call with TNT analysts Reggie Miller, Shaquille O'Neal and Charles Barkley, all three felt strongly that the Celtics would give Lebron James' Heat a strong challenge for the Eastern Conference crown. "LeBron covers up a lot of weaknesses because he's so physically amazing, but Boston to me has a legit chance of beating them," Charles Barkley said. "I think the Miami-Boston series to me is a toss-up. Boston has great depth, they have great size in [Jared] Sullinger and Fab Melo in the draft. I think the most underrated player in the NBA is Jeff Green. I know he didn't play last year, I loved him in Oklahoma City. When he got to Boston he went late into the year so he really never got comfortable. I think he is going to be fantastic." New York has been a focal point with the inaugural season for the Brookl ...
I always knew the East was terrible, but this opened my eyes to a whole new level of terrible. Here are my Eastern Conference predictions: 1. Miami – Last year they were 1 legendary 3 point shooter away from being unstoppable... 2. Indiana – Most underated Roy Hibbert out to prove he’s big man and will help his team be 3. Philadelphia – Dangerous last year before adding Bynum and GSW alums J-Rich and D-Wright (lost Iggy). 4. Boston – Not sure if they are much better or if the East got worse. I like the Sullinger/Fab Melo add-on 5. New York- Only this high because Melo gets the whistle. Also, 5 is the amount of donuts I predict Raymond Felton to eat before each game. 6. Chicago – No Rose, but the East *** this bad 7. Atlanta- Dropped JJ in exchange for a bunch of mediocre players 8. Brooklyn – Didn’t want to reward them a playoff spot just for moving to Brooklyn/Joe Johnson, but the rest of this list is so pathetic I couldn’t find anybody that would beat them. 9. Milwaukee- Monta Ellis ...

LA Kings Will Reach the Stanley Cup Final but they Won't Win it Either New Jersey Devils or New York Rangers the Eastern Conference is so Powerful
Whoa, Joe Nathan saves a game. Sigh of relief. Maybe the internets are right. Darvish should wear Texas Ranger red at home from here on out. As for the NHL Eastern Conference Finals, another lovely win for 100-year-old Marty Brodeur and New Jersey. Oh, New York, you're gonna be worn out before you meet Los Angeles for the Stanley Cup.
NEW YORK (AP) Rangers rookie Chris Kreider and defenseman Dan Girardi both had a goal and an assist in the third period, and Henrik Lundqvist stopped 21 shots for his fifth career playoff shutout, as weary New York opened the Eastern Conference Finals with a 3-0 victory over the well-rested New Jers...
I now have my prediction for the Stanley Cup Final; the tale of 2 big cities in the USA; have to see how Los Angeles vs Pheonix does starting Sunday in the Western Conference Final and New Jersey vs New York starting Monday in the Eastern Conference Final. What an interesting playoff year, all 4 remaining goaltenders will decide it because they are all good :)
The New york Ranger beat the Washington Capitals 2 1o 1 and now there going to the Eastern Conference Championship against the New Jersey Devil's on Monday afternoon in Madison Square Garden in New York
The Washington Capitals and the New York Rangers are battling it out in the Eastern Conference semi-finals, as the NHL playoffs continue their inexorable march toward the Stanley Cup Finals. The series is tied at 3-3 as the teams prepare to suit up for tomorrow night's deciding Game 7 match-up. Sounds pretty intense, huh? Doesn't seem necessary to ratchet up the drama by comparing the players to 9/11 firefighters and policemen, right? WRONG! The CBC's Ron MacLean knows that playoff hockey is a matter of life and death and planes crashing into buildings and flames and people jumping out of windows and mourning loved ones. MIAMI -- Lebron James had 29 points, eight rebounds and seven assists, Chris Bosh and Dwyane Wade both scored 19 points and Miami beat New York 106-94 on Wednesday nigh to win the Eastern Conference first-round series in five games.

Heat 104, Knicks 94 The Miami Heat defeated the New York Knicks 104-94 Monday to take a 2-0 lead in their first round series in the Eastern Conference playoffs. Guard Dwyane Wade led the Heat with 25 points while forward Chris Bosh added 21. Forward Lebron James finished with 19 points, nine assists and seven rebounds. The Heat for the second straight game broke free in the second quarter behind Wade.
