Hawks top Heat 98-85, get East’s last playoff spot (AP) Jeff Teague scored 25 points, Lou Williams had 18 of his 23 points in the fourth quarter and the Atlanta Hawks earned the Eastern Conference’s final playoff spot with a 98-85 victory over the Miami Heat on Saturday night. Atlanta’s third straight victory eliminated the New York Knicks from playoff contention. Williams scored the Hawks’ last 12 points. LeBron James finished with 27 points and Dwyane Wade, in his first game since missing nine straight with a sore left hamstring, scored 24 for Miami. The two-time defending champion Heat, who have lost three of four, gave up the ground they gained in the standings Friday by beating Indiana at home and taking a one-half game lead over the Pacers. Miami and Indiana are now tied atop the Eastern Conference with 54-26 records. The Heat’s 85 points were their third-fewest this season. James and Chris Bosh returned to the floor with 6:42 remaining and Miami trailing 81-72, but Demarre Carroll stole t ...
Blogs: The Chicago Bulls are now on The Top 3 Seed on The Eastern Conference, are They Better without Rose? are They Ready again for a Championship? After what seemed like an interminable, months long chase, the Chicago Bulls have finally caught up with the Toronto Raptors as the torturous 82-game regular season nearly comes to an end. A Bulls win over the sloppy Detroit Pistons on Friday night coupled with a Raptors' 108-100 loss to the New York Knicks in Toronto rearranged the overall standings in the Eastern Conference. At 47-32, the Bulls are now nestled in third place, dislodging the 46-33 Raptors, who staggered down to fourth. The upgrade is a mighty huge deal for the Bulls because a 3 seed puts them in a position to play either the Washington Wizards or the Charlotte Bobcats in opening round while a 4 seed means a date with the dangerous Brooklyn Nets, a team laden with veterans, on a tear and primed for a deep postseason run. The Bulls and Raptors each have 3 games left to play and they can easily ...
New York Knicks is now in the top 8 of the Eastern conference! Yay!
I just want to congratulate the New York Knicks on finally getting into 8th place in the Eastern Conference. I'm happy for you Knicks fans. Its not every day you can be a playoff contender and be guaranteed to have a losing record. Alvin *** Zachary Adams Knicks gotta finish 4-2 to win 37 games. New York Knicks just moved past Atlanta Hawks for 8th spot in Eastern conference
The NY Knicks are 32-43, a 42% winning percentage..20 games back from the top spot...yet, all I see online is how they are making a playoff push because they are only 1 game back from the 8th spot in the pathetic Eastern Conference. As a New York Knicks fan I would rather see them not make the playoffs and take our chances with the NBA Draft lottery then play the Pacers or Heat and get destroyed in the first round.
With all eyes and spotlights trained on Madison Square Garden, where the New York Knicks are using Phil Jackson to shield themselves from future doubt, the Brooklyn Nets are quietly making the Eastern Conference playoff race one worth watching. Onset struggles prohibit owner Mikhail Prokhorov's...
A group of fed-up New York Knicks fans will protest what they call the "systemic and consistently recurring lack of responsible decision-making at Madison Square Garden" by owner James Dolan and team executives before a home game against the Indiana Pacers on March 19. "We understand Dolan will not sell. We understand change may not come of this. We just want our voices heard," Mark Griffin, one of the organizers of the protest, wrote in an emailed statement. "We want to remind Dolan and the NBA that our voices matter. We buy the tickets, the jerseys, the NBA League Pass subscriptions. We are frustrated. We are tired. We deserve better." The Knicks, who declined to comment Thursday, have performed far below Dolan's stated expectations this season. They snapped a seven-game losing streak with a win over Minnesota on Wednesday but are 19 games under .500 and 5½ games out of the eighth and final playoff spot in the Eastern Conference. The fan group that has organized the protest -- KF4L (Knicks Fans For Lif ...

There is nothing more pleasantly surprising than seeing both New York teams tied for second to last in the entire Eastern Conference...yes, 2ND TO LAST??? I mean Charlotte has a better record than both New York Knicks & Brooklyn Nets...lol..And they are both lucky, bec Milwaukee had not lost to Portland today, they would be tied at last place... .Who wudda thunk it!!!
The Brooklyn Nets and the New York Knicks have identical records at 3-6. These are the teams that were to have been contending for their division and challenge the Miami Heat for the Eastern Conference. Of course, everyone would tell you it is too early to panic, after all the season is only 9 games old. However, both teams have displayed some disturbing trends. The Nets have problems winning on the road and the Knicks can't seem to win at home. Both teams seemed to have been out coached in each of their losses. Both teams have new players that seem to be unable to fit into their team's plans. In the case of the Brooklyn Nets, both Kevin Garnett and Paul Pierce have been unable to play the roles the team thought they were capable of when they were acquired. Despite all of the fanfare and the talks of winning a championship, although they beat the Heat in their first meeting this season, the Nets continue to have problems beating teams they are supposed to beat. Brook Lopez seems to be playing well, but t ...

Here my Eastern Conference standings predictions for the 2013-2014 season. 1. Miami Heat- Lebron James. Chris Bosh. Dwayne Wade. Oh and they pretty much replaced Jwuan Howard and Mike Miller with Greg Oden and Michael Beasley. 2. Indiana Pacers- Another year for Paul George to improve. Can also say the same about Roy Hibbert. Danny Granger is back. Replaced Psycho T with a better back up PF, Luis Scola. Added CJ Watson, Chris Copeland. Stacked team. 3. Chicago Bulls- Derrick Rose is back. MVP Candidate, healthy Deng, Noah, and Hinrich. Had an underrated free agent signing with Mike Dunleavy Jr. They also have the 3rd best coach in the league. 4. Brooklyn Nets- Just look at their starting 5. They finished 4th in the East last year. And had Reggie Evans at PF. Now Kevin Garnett plays PF. Could be a top 3 team. But can Kidd coach them. And will it work. Probably the most stacked team in the NBA other then Miami. But Lakers did this last year and they finished 7th in the west. 5. New York Knicks- Carmelo Anth ...

Basketball Heat beat brave Bulls to reach Eastern final The Miami Heat reached their third straight Eastern Conference final after a 94-91 win over Chicago on Wednesday secured a 4-1 series victory for the defending NBA champions. Miami will face the winners of the series between the New York Knicks and the Indiana Pacers. Indiana currently lead 3-1 going into Thursday's Game Five in New York. A series that began with a Chicago upset win in Miami and included some fierce, physical encounters, ended with a strange game as Miami blew an 18-point first quarter lead but somehow managed to claw their way back to victory. "It was very challenging to be up like we were and then to be down like we were in second half. Mentally, we had to not get too high, not get too low in the whole game," said Miami's LeBron James, who ended with 23 points. "Emotionally, this game took a lot out of both teams," added the league MVP, who said he was left with "no energy". The Heat made a blistering start, putting up 10 unanswere ...

Tired of losing and determined to stop it, the New York Knicks toughened up and fought their way out of their worst slump of the season. Anthony scored 29 points, Amar'e Stoudemire had a season-high 22, and the Knicks snapped their four-game losing streak by beating the Philadelphia 76ers 99-93 on Sunday night. "Losing games, games we think we're supposed to win, you come into a game like this, we want to win," Anthony said. "Definitely want to be a very high-intensity game, a very high-energetic game back here on our home court and we didn't want to lose this game." Anthony was only 6 of 18 from the field, but made 16-of-18 free throws and also was called for a flagrant foul for the fired-up Knicks, who have fallen behind Indiana into third place in the Eastern Conference and wh ...
Heat fans look what Mike Woodson the head coach for the New York Knicks had to say about the Miami Heat CONCESSION SPEECH: Yes, the New York Knicks are up 2-0 in the season series, in position to clinch the tiebreaker, but with a four-game deficit at the All-Star break, coach Mike Woodson appears to be placing a greater priority on winning the Atlantic Division than hunting down the Heat for the top seed in the Eastern Conference. "I can't worry about LeBron and Miami," Woodson told reporters. "I've got to really focus in on what we're doing. First and foremost we've got to stay at the top of our division and then after that, whatever happens, happens. They're not going to quit playing. They're the world champions. They figured it out last year. We're trying to get where they were last year. I can't see them tailing off by any means."
The Indiana Pacers are sitting atop the Central Division. The New York Knicks are looking over their shoulders at the Pacers, who are just 11/2 games back for the second seed in the Eastern Conference.

Basketball Anthony fires Knicks to win over Celtics Carmelo Anthony and Kevin Garnett showed no signs of any lingering bad blood between them as the New York Knicks snapped their 11-game losing streak in Boston with a 89-86 win over the Celtics on Thursday. New York's Anthony and Boston's Garnett had jawed at each other throughout a testy contest earlier this month, which continued after the game when Anthony tried to confront Garnett at the Boston team bus. Anthony received a one-game suspension for his role in the incident. On Thursday, the pair exchanged a fist bump before the tip-off and were all about business. Anthony led the way with a game-high 28 points while Amar'e Stoudemire, Jason Kidd and Iman Shumpert all reached double figures to help the Knicks (26-14) cement their place at the top of the Eastern Conference's Atlantic Division. Garnett was restricted to just eight points, but also contributed 12 rebounds for Boston. Celtics point guard Rajon Rondo added 23 points, 10 rebounds and 11 assist ...

Miami moved to 17-6 on the year and trail the New York Knicks by one game in the Eastern Conference standings. LeBron James led the way with 24 points.
Carmelo came back into the Knicks lineup after missing two games against Eastern Conference rivals, the reigning Miami Heat and the Chicago Bulls. The Knicks destroyed the reigning champs by a 20 point deficit, and lost a game full of turnovers and bad shooting to the Bulls. Melo played 39 minutes in tonight's win against Denver, and dropped 34 points while going 10 for 24 from the field. Melo also wrapped in 6 rebounds and 2 steals in his first game back from receiving five stitches in one of his fingers, which he suffered while diving to save a ball in a game against the Charlotte Bobcats. Chandler collected another double-double, while also adding to a great rebounding week, coming off of an 18 rebound performance in Chicago. JR Smith collected 15 points and 9 rebounds in tonight's win against the Denver Nuggets. The New York Knicks took a three and a half game lead on the Brooklyn Nets in the Eastern Atlantic Conference. New York will next face the Brooklyn Nets on Tuesday.
Basketball Without Anthony, Knicks crush Heat in Miami The Miami Heat suffered their worst home defeat of the 'Big Three' era as the defending NBA champions crashed to a 112-92 loss to a New York Knicks team without their star forward Carmelo Anthony. The Knicks have sole leadership of the Eastern Conference with a 14-4 record, ahead of the Heat who slip to 12-5, having also lost by 20 points to the Knicks in New York on November 2. Raymond Felton top-scored for New York with 27 points, including six of 10 on three-point throws, as the Knicks flourished despite the absence of Anthony, who has an injured finger on his non-shooting left hand. "It was a total team effort from everyone that played," said Knicks head coach Mike Woodson. "Across the board I think our defence was solid for 48 minutes. I thought offensively our flow was good and guys made shots." For the Heat, LeBron James put up 31 points with 10 rebounds and nine assists but it was a quiet night for Dwyane Wade, who was three-of-13 from the fie ...

Carmelo Anthony, Jason Kidd, and the (13-4) New York Knicks take their talents to South Beach to face LeBron James, Dwayne Wade and the (12-4) Miami Heat in a battle of the top two teams in the Eastern Conference. Tonight at 8 on TNT.
I want the NBA season to end rite now, cause, this is the playoffs matchup will look like after 10-13 games of the regular season, in the eastern conference, seed Miami Heat-seed Charlotte Bobcats, seed Brooklyn Nets-seed Boston Celtics, seed New York Knicks-seed Philadelphia 76ers, and finally the seed Milwaukee Bucks-seed Atlanta Hawks, thats the Eastern Conference playoff picture as of right now. For the Western Conference playoff picture its seed Memphis Grizzlies-seed Los Angles Lakers, seed San Antonio Spurs-seed Utah Jazz, seed Oklahoma City Thunder-seed Denver Nuggets and finally the seed Golden State Warriors-Los Angles Clippers, thats how the NBA playoffs should look like at season end in April, and I hope I'm right as of right now
Jeff Van Gundy on the second best team in the Eastern Conference: "I think without a doubt it's the New York Knicks right now."
I'm a little upset that I won't see the Brooklyn Nets season opener debut against New York Knicks. Thanks in all to Hurricane Sandy!! But, we will get stronger. We will arise both Knicks and Nets. The pursuit of super teams. The Miami Heat, the New York Knicks and even these Los Angeles Clippers shredded their infrastructures and constructed themselves with starry, top-heavy rosters. MIAMI (AP) If the numbers are to be believed, then the New York Knicks' season is about to end. Of the other 101 teams to lose the first three games in a best-of-seven NBA series, none ultimately prevailed and only 10 managed to stave off elimination twice. That doesn't mean the Miami Heat are leaving anything to chance. For the past two days, the Heat have stewed over and stared at the tape of what went wrong at Madison Square Garden on Sunday, when a litany of things - 11 missed free throws, 16 missed 3-pointers, two blown double-digit leads, giving up a 19-2 run in the third quarter and having all that capped by a botched play at the end of regulation - added up to an 89-87 loss that extended the Knicks' season. When the teams' Eastern Conference first-round series resumes Wednesday night, the Heat expect to be sharper. ''You carry it with you 24 hours, you go over what needs to be done, you correct it and you get rid of it,'' Heat forward LeBron James said. ''That's not saying that you don't care abou ...

Indiana Pacers guard Reggie Miller scores eight points in 11 seconds to lead his team over the New York Knicks 107-105 on this day in 1995. Miller was famous throughout his career for what became known as "Miller Time," clutch performances to finish games. This 1995 Eastern Conference semifinal playoff was Miller’s greatest late-game display, and one of the most shocking endings to a game in NBA history.
THE FACTS: The Miami Heat defeated the New York Knicks 104-94 Monday to take a 2-0 lead in their first round series in the Eastern Conference playoffs. Guard Dwyane Wade led the Heat with 25 points while forward Chris Bosh added 21. Forward LeBron James finished with 19 points, nine assists and seven rebounds. The Heat for the second straight game broke free in the second quarter behind Wade. Miami had six players in double-figures, including Mario Chalmers (13 points), and Mike Miller and Shane Battier, who each had 11. The Knicks got 30 points from forward Carmelo Anthony, but he shot just 12-of-26 from the field. Forward Amar's Stoudemire added 18 points and seven rebounds. Stoudemire was tended to by paramedics after the game after he reportedly punched the glass enclosure around a fire extinguisher. Head coach Mike Woodson did not comment on the situation.
