The 2012 Stanley Cup Final was the championship series of the National Hockey League (NHL) 2011–12 season, and the culmination of the 2012 Stanley Cup Playoffs. This was the 119th year of the Stanley Cup's presentation. The Western Conference playoff champion Los Angeles Kings defeated the Eastern Conference playoff champion New Jersey Devils four games to two, capturing their first Stanley Cup title in team history. Kings goaltender Jonathan Quick was awarded the Conn Smythe Trophy as the Most Valuable Player of the playoffs. The 2012 Final ended a long Stanley Cup Final appearance drought for the Los Angeles Kings, who had appeared in the Finals only once in franchise history, in 1993, when the Wayne Gretzky–led Kings lost to the Montreal Canadiens in five games. The New Jersey Devils last appeared in 2003 when winning the championship. The Eastern Conference winner had home ice advantage for the first time since 2006, since the Devils had a better regular season record than the Kings.

NHL.com Looks at the short offseason couldn't end soon enough for New Jersey Devils coach Peter DeBoer. "No one had a good taste in their mouth after last season with how it played out for us," DeBoer told NHL.com. "Everyone here is anxious to get back to work and prove that the team that lost Game 6 of the 2012 Stanley Cup Final is not the same one that played the shortened schedule last year." While that's certainly the hope, it wouldn't hurt if DeBoer’s team remained in relative good health for the entire season. The Devils failed to overcome injuries to Ilya Kovalchuk and Martin Brodeur last season and finished 11th in the Eastern Conference, seven points out of a Stanley Cup Playoff spot. It marked the second time in three seasons the Devils failed to reach the playoffs, even though they had a conference-best 8-1-3 start to 2012-13. DeBoer said he really didn't anticipate any major challenges entering this year's training camp, rather, just getting familiar with the new people and personnel. There ...
For all the bad mouthing the caps get, this is an interesting fact...Over the past three seasons, which team has played in more Stanley Cup playoff games? a. Pittsburgh Penguins b. Philadelphia Flyers c. New Jersey Devils d. Washington Capitals You guessed it. Thanks to the Boston Bruins’ four-game sweep of the Penguins, your beloved Capitals have played in more post-season games than the Penguins , Devils and Flyers . In fact, only two teams in the Eastern Conference – the Bruins and the Rangers have played in more post-season games than the Caps over the past three springs.
New York Rangers One of the teams favored to represent the NHL's Eastern Conference in the Stanley Cup Finals, the Rangers are anchored in goal by Henrik Lundqvist, a talented young defensive corps and a potent offense led by Brad Richards and Marion Gaborik. The Rangers finished second overall in the NHL last season before squandering home-ice advantage and falling to the New Jersey Devils in the conference final. Bolstered their lineup in the offseason by trading for Rick Nash, a five-time All-Star forward who has recorded 30 or more goals in seven of his nine seasons with the struggling Columbus Blue Jackets.
The Washington Capitals’ 82-game regular-season schedule for 2012-13 begins on Friday, Oct. 12 at Verizon Center versus the New Jersey Devils at 7 p.m., with the first road game of the campaign set for Oct. 13 against the Ottawa Senators at Scotiabank Place, the National Hockey League announced today. The 2012-13 NHL schedule format, like the last four seasons, has the Capitals facing the other teams in the Southeast Division six times each and the remaining Eastern Conference opponents four times each. Washington plays each team in the Western Conference at least once, with two games each against Nashville, Los Angeles and Dallas. Nine Western Conference teams will visit Verizon Center. The Capitals will host the defending Stanley Cup-champion Los Angeles Kings at Verizon Center on Super Bowl Sunday, Feb. 3, at 12:30 p.m. It will mark the fourth year in a row that the Capitals will play on Super Bowl Sunday. 2012-06-13 15:49:00 NEWARK, N.J. - With free agency looming in less than three weeks, New Jersey Devils captain Zach Parise has crossed the rival Rangers off his list of potential future employers. Meeting with the media for the first time since New Jersey lost the Stanley Cup in six games to the Los Angeles Kings two days ago, the 27-year-old Parise reiterated that he would like to continue playing for the Devils and would even consider signing before free agency starts on July with the right deal. When asked if he'd play for the rival New York Rangers, a team New Jersey defeated in the post-season, he was short and simple: "No." Devils president and general manager Lou Lamoriello said re-signing Parise, who earned in excess of $5 million last season, would be a priority for the Eastern Conference Champions

WOW! Did i call this one wrong. I expected a New York Rangers vs. Los Angeles Kings finals in the 2012 NHL Stanley Cup Playoffs, but the New Jersey Devils won the Eastern Conference so now the LA Kings will be facing-off against them for the championship. L.A. has not been in a race for the cup since 1993 when they lost to Montreal Canadians, the same year i moved from there to Houston, so i would love to see them take it from the Devils. GO KINGS!!!

And then there were four. Only 4 teams left in the Stanley Cup hunt. Seeing as the Red Wings are out, I'm gonna pull for the Coyotes. Just because.
