Each week, our stable of NBA experts will take a close look at the big issues in the NBA.We've reached the halfway point of the season, so the Starting Five decided to go into prediction mode... As things stand right now, who wins the Eastern Conference? Simon Legg - NBA Australia: Washington I'd like to start this by saying that it's January so there's no need for any backlash! It's simply a midseason check in. I understand that most of the Starting Five crew will look at Chicago, and why not? Tom Thibodeau finally has his most talented roster, Derrick Rose is back, Jimmy Butler continues to rise, but what about the team that causes them serious problems...? So, that brings me to the Wizards! We all know what happened in the playoffs, the Wizards dismantled the Bulls in five games. Marcin Gortat and Nene had their way with the Bulls' frontcourt, and that hasn't changed to begin this season, even with the addition of Pau Gasol. Plus, can you bank on Chicago being fit? They've played 42 games this seaso .. ...
The season is very young but my Bulls the best team in the Eastern Conference right now!! I said it before and I'll say it again if Derrick Rose and everybody stays healthy we'll be playing in the Finals this year. Anybody beg to differ??!!
The Chicago Bulls welcomed former NBA Most Valuable Player Derrick Rose back from injury with a convincing 104-80 win over the New York Knicks. The return of Rose and the addition of Spanish veteran Pau Gasol have branded the Bulls as Eastern Conference contenders in 2014-15, and they looked the part at Madison Square Garden."I wouldn't say my rust is knocked of - Read more:
A healthy Derrick Rose puts the Chicago Bulls atop the Eastern Conference.👌 with the shooters they have, and an added Pau Gasol. A lot of
If Derrick Rose stays healthy, that WEAK Eastern Conference will become better.
With a healthy Derrick Rose and the addition of Pau Gasol, where do you think the Chicago Bulls will end up in the Eastern Conference?
People forget Derrick Rose is being added to a 48 win team... in the Eastern Conference.
Ever since Derrick Rose went out with his injuries , the Eastern Conference has been weak af!
We dont need Derrick Rose to make it to the Eastern Conference finals son!
For all the talk about the front office throwing in the towel on the season, if it really wanted to lose dramatically, it would have stuck with Marquis Teague as Kirk Hinrich's backup. Or maybe it didn't realize Augustin would be this good. With Augustin playing big minutes, the Bulls are 18-13, having improved from 8-12 to 26-25. With one game left until the All-Star break, the Bulls are no longer the walking dead. They are in fourth place in the weak Eastern Conference. They have survived another crippling Derrick Rose knee injury and the trade of franchise linchpin Luol Deng. Noah and Taj Gibson are dominating the paint, and the guards are seeing dividends.
Derrick Rose and Joakim Noah are among the Eastern Conference leaders in All-Star Game voting. Voting ends Jan. 20 for the Feb. 16 game in New Orleans.
TNT NBA double header- Knicks-Nets: A blowout. Knicks sink the Nets 113-83. Yes, read it again. 113-83. Thirty points. 113-83. Wow. The East overall is sucking wind big time. Nets only chance to a respectable end to this season is the return of Deron Williams. Oh, and Jason Kidd "reassigned" his go to Assistant Coach Lawrence Frank. (In English, "reassigned" means "fired). If I had to guess, this was in part based on merits of what he felt was needed. But, I don't doubt, too, that this may have been a move by him to be seen "taking action" given the dismal performance of the Nets this year. I don't agree with the cycling of coaches by the Nets. (Avery Johnson, firing him was a very stupid move, IMO). Heat- Bulls- Another blowout. Chicago (obviously without Derrick Rose) puts the Heat down, 107-87. Dwayne Wade was out for the Heat. Again, the Bulls put up superior defense and beat the crap out of Miami (not only on points, but, causally on rebounding). My take away? In the context of the Eastern Conference ...
Hey, Bulls fans! Derrick Rose's long-awaited return is just about complete. The former MVP point guard was back wearing his familiar uniform No. 1, looking ready to lead the Chicago Bulls back to contention in the Eastern Conference after sitting out a season following knee surgery.
NO DEAL FOR DENG MEANS DRAMA FOR BULLS. Regardless of how well the players and the coaches fended off the distraction of it, the Chicago Bulls’ 2012-13 season was preoccupied, overshadowed and generally beholden to one question: “Is Derrick back?” Odds are good, as of Tuesday, that 2013-14 will be colored by a variation on that query, as in: “Is Deng gone?” With reports that talks of a contract extension between Luol Deng and the Bulls have broken off [CSNChicago.com], followed up by agent Herb Rudoy‘s quote that the All-Star forward “will definitely go through” free agency next summer [Chicago Tribune], a team that grappled with considerable unknowns last season assured itself of a fat one for this year. What it means to the depth and cohesiveness of the Bulls as they try to chase down the Miami Heat and a couple other improving Eastern Conference contenders remains to be seen. But it adds drama where there might have been none. Derrick Rose, obviously, is the fulcrum on which this season ...
Chicago Bulls guard Derrick Rose was ruled out of their 94-91 loss in Game 5 of an Eastern Conference semifinal against the Miami Heat, meaning he officially missed the entire season after undergoing ACL surgery on May 12, 2012.
The second stage of the Heat’s title defense is now complete, as a dicey 94-91 Game 5 victory will advance Miami to the Eastern Conference finals and formally end Chicago’s season. With nine playoff games — and two downed opponents — in the books, it’s a worthy time as any to reflect back on what we’ve learned from the Heat’s postseason thus far.   Dwyane Wade isn’t physically right, and that hasn’t yet mattered. While Miami’s second-round series was fun and physical, an overmatched Chicago team offered precious little opportunity for drama. The Bulls were expected to put up as much a fight as they could muster — and they did. Injuries to Derrick Rose, Luol Deng and Kirk Hinrich simply put the Bulls way out of their league, particularly once Nate Robinson’s once-brilliant offense extinguished as result of overuse. With the outcome of this series all but assumed, the attention of the basketball world naturally turned elsewhere — to the extracurricular fouls on the court, Rose’s ...
The Miami Heat hold off the Chicago Bulls to advance to their third straight NBA Eastern Conference finals. LeBron James scored 23 points, Dwayne Wade added 18 and had a brilliant 45-second sequence that proved crucial, and the Heat clawed back from an 11-point second-half deficit to beat the Chicago Bulls 94-91 and close out their second-round series in five games. The Heat outscored Chicago 25-14 in the fourth quarter to escape and advance. And Miami moved on, now halfway home in its quest for a second straight National Basketball Association Champion title. Carlos Boozer finished with 26 points and 14 rebounds for the Bulls, who were without Derrick Rose for the 99th straight game. Nate Robinson scored 21 points, Jimmy Butler had 19, and Richard Hamilton 15 for the Bulls. The Heat will almost surely be big favorites against either Indiana or New York, though it's certain either opponent would enter a series against Miami with plenty of confidence. The Knicks went 3-1 against the Heat this season, outsc ...
Derrick Rose still has not ruled out a return this season for the Chicago Bulls, saying he could play in their Eastern Conference semifinal against the Miami Heat.
The Chicago Bulls will be without Luol Deng, Derrick Rose and possibly Kirk Hinrich for Game 1 of their Eastern Conference semifinal against the Miami Heat on Monday, but Rose said he is not ruling out playing at some point in the series.
All-knee surgery team in the Eastern Conference playoffs: Rajon Rondo, Lou Williams, Derrick Rose, Danny Granger, Amaré Stoudemire
Chicago Bulls trade rumors: Shooting guard trade off table? (Video) Chicago Bulls trade rumors as the NBA trade deadline approaches have been pretty frequent, but the team may not need to make a move after all. On Monday night (Jan. 28), Luol Deng returned to the starting lineup for the Bulls, putting the team very close to being at full strength for the first time this season. When starting point guard Derrick Rose comes back in February, this could be one of the teams to beat in the Eastern Conference. Rumors of the team needing to improve at guard have been pushed down by some impressive play by Jimmy Butler. Though Butler returns to the bench with the return of Deng and primarily plays small forward, he has been averaging in double-figures scoring over... ~SportsMan
Indiana Pacers vs Chicago Bulls tomorrow at 8 *** I want to go so I can see how disappointed you bulls fans get when they lose to us for the 3 rd time and the only excuse y'all can give me is ahhh Derrick Rose ain't playing lol it's a team game we didn't have Ganger for 55 games and we're 2nd in the Eastern Conference give us are props
The Celtics defeated the Utah Jazz last night 110-107 in yet another overtime game. The captain Paul Pierce led the way with 26, 8 assists and 7 rebounds. Bradley stepped up big time on the offensive end with 18, 5 rebounds and 4 assists. Lee stepped up as well with 14, 5 rebounds and 3 assists. Bass is another guy that stepped up on the offensive end with 15 points, going 7-7 from the free throw line. KG had 13 and 9 boards. Jason Terry led the bench with 14. Green had 6. Wilcox had 2. Crawford had 2. The Celtics have a below average road trip going 2-3. The C's have a staggering 10-18 record on the road. If they want to make a deep run in the playoffs (which they certainly can because the Eastern Conference doesn't have a legitimate championship contender aside from Miami and Chicago with a healthy Derrick Rose), they are going to have to fix their road woes. The Celtics will return home to take on the Golden State Warriors this Friday. Tipoff is at 7:30. On Comcast Sportsnet and WEEI radio. C's!
Derrick Rose is going to come back and play the Heat in the Eastern Conference finals… and win & do it for Chicago.
The Chicago Bulls are currently 3rd in the Eastern Conference without their Star Point Guard Derrick Rose who is getting closer to making his season debut after tearing his ACL.
Shout out to Rajon Rondo he tore his Acl today good luck recovering and derrick rose will take your spot as the number one point guard in the Eastern Conference
Im liking this whole ACL tear switch that is happening in the Eastern Conference. As Derrick Rose is preparing to make his return sooner than later, Rajon Rondo is just now starting his journey into the magical world of surgery/rehabilitation. RIP Boston Celtics '12-'13 season
Bulls chosen Tim Duncan was selected to his 14th All-Star Game, Spurs teammate Tony Parker is joining him, and the Chicago Bulls also had two reserves chosen Thursday for next month's game in Houston. Joakim Noah and Luol Deng were picked from the Bulls, who have stayed in the thick of the Eastern Conference playoff race despite the season-long absence of point guard Derrick Rose. Noah is one of five first-time All-Stars for the East, along with New York's Tyson Chandler, Indiana's Paul George, Cleveland's Kyrie Irving, and Philadelphia's Jrue Holiday. Miami's Chris Bosh, picked for his eighth All-Star team, rounded out the East squad. West forwards David Lee (Golden State), LaMarcus Aldridge (Portland) and Zach Randolph (Memphis) all were picked for the second time. Houston's James Harden was chosen for the first time and joins former Oklahoma City teammate Russell Westbrook, headed to his third straight All-Star Game. Duncan wasn't chosen last year for the first time in his career but has bounced back w ...
Mid-Season Reviews: At the technical mid-point of the season, I think it’s time to have a look back at the first half of the season and pick out the best teams, the most surprising and the worst teams. Also, at this time I see who is on my MVP ladder at this stage of the season and which of the rookies have performed the best this season. Eastern Conference: Best Team- Miami Heat (Record: 26-12) The Heat have been playing beautifully of late, despite a few slip ups against lower teams such as Washington. LeBron James has once again led this team beautifully, adding mightily on the offensive and the defensive sides of the floor. With also some solid contributions from Dwayne Wade and Chris Bosh as well as from the bench, the Heat are beautifully poised to go deep into the Playoffs and have a chance to defend their NBA title. The Surprise Packet- Chicago Bulls (Record: 24-16) Yes, the Bulls are playing without Derrick Rose and yes they were all but written off pre-season, but the Chicago Bulls are 8 games ...
Derrick Rose is coming back. Every day, every hour, every minute, heck, every second, Rose and the Bulls get closer to a reunion that is expected to transform their season and restore Chicago to its rightful place at or near the top of the Eastern Conference. It's gone be *** when he come back Westbrook dont want none lbvs
ENBA News Update: - Detroit forward Tayshaun Prince expects his injured right ankle to be good enough for him to play tomorrow in Atlanta. 'I just started running two or three weeks ago, now I have to get back into game shape and really get my timing right. It will come soon.' - Tom Thibodeau said that Derrick Rose is doing 'more and more' as he recovers from knee surgery. - Turns out Avery Bradley will not join Celtics out west this week. - In an interview with ESPN's Stephen A. Smith, Carmelo Anthony says anything less than a trip to the Eastern Conference finals would be 'unacceptable' for the Knicks this season. - Al Harrington said reports of his retirement are premature. Harrington ran a bit up and down the court and did ...
Derrick Rose has been the fire that has kept the Chicago Bulls as the leaders in the Eastern Conference. With a convincing 101-84 win over the Charlotte Bobcats, the Bulls have clinched a playoff spot and hold a one and a half game lead over the Boston Celtics.
Derrick Rose is reportedly out until likely March which could spell doom for the Bulls' season and their title hopes.
Derrick Rose will not return until March. That shakes up the Eastern Conference. Would not be surprised if Knicks and Nets finish better.
Dwight Howard of the Orlando Magic and Derrick Rose of the Chicago Bulls top the Eastern Conference, while Kobe Bryant of the Los Angeles Lakers and Kevin Durant of the Oklahoma City Thunder lead the Western Conference after the second returns of 2012 NBA All-Star Balloting. Howard, who leads the NBA in rebounding (15.6 rpg), is the overall leader with 1,161,797 votes. The 2012 NBA All-Star Game will be played at Amway Center in Orlando on Sunday, Feb. 26, 2012. Am a Heat fan but i kinda wish Derrick Rose & Lin wasnt injured.. This year gotta be one of my favorite NBA Season that Ive witness (Even if heat losses)... NewYork, Boston, Indiana, Chicago were going hard in the eastern conference.. I hope they all run it back next year
Derrick Rose realizes there are bigger goals out there for the Chicago Bulls, so getting in position to grab the Eastern Conference lead from Boston isn't an...
NEIL HAYES: Game 1 of the most anticipated NBA playoff series since Michael Jordan retired would’ve started Monday at the United Center. The Bulls against the Heat in the Eastern Conference finals with story lines galore. Derrick Rose, LeBron James, Dwyane Wade and John Lucas III with the city hangi...
Raging Bull 2012 Season mix Starring Derrick Rose. After losing to the Miami Heat in the Eastern Conference last year 4-1, Rose tried to bounce his way back ...
Dwyane Wade scored 41 points, LeBron James added 28 and Miami finished off the Indiana Pacers, sending the Heat back to the Eastern Conference finals with a 105-93 victory in Game 6 on Thursday night.
As the Bulls move forward in a seemingly very winnable Eastern Conference, you have to wonder if it is about competing until Derrick Rose returns or trying to have the pieces in place...
I believe the NBA strike that compressed all these games into a short period of time has resulted in injuries to major players like Chris Bosh and Derrick Rose. All those back to back games without rest has taken a toll. The quality of Eastern Conference division games has definitely been impacted and we are not seeing the best teams play. What do you think?
Observation: Ilya Kovalchuk misses Gm. 2 in Philly and the Devils still win the game. Derrick Rose hurts his knee and the Bulls lose the next 3 games. And this is the team in the Eastern Conference and they can't win a game without 1 player!? Remind me again how basketball is a TEAM sport?
With a weak Celtics team and no Derrick Rose in the Eastern Conference, LeBron will majestically cat daddy to the ring. Whew!
I really do feel for Derrick Rose and the fans of the Chicago Bulls. We all know that for the second year in a row, the title from the Eastern Conference had to go through the House that Mike Built. The Miami Heat (my chosen team for this year and last) will still face difficulties from Boston and (gulp) Indiana in making it to the Championship Series. Sorry Kara Smith
Chicago guard Derrick Rose sat there on the United Center court wincing with the pain of an ACL tear in his left knee. It sent shock waves through the Bulls , who suddenly look vulnerable as the Eastern Conference's No. 1 seed despite picking up a 103-91 Game 1 victory Saturday over the Philad...

I do believe the NBA Eastern Conference playoffs teams are jinxed. Both Derrick Rose and Iman Shumpert tore their ACL's in the first game.
Injuries happen all the time in sporting contests, and it isn't Tom Thibodeau's fault that Derrick Rose's knee gave out. The Bulls are still a scrappy team and though their chances may have been diminished by losing their star player, they made it this far and I don't think they will quit, even under overwhelming odds of them making it back to the Eastern Conference Championship Series again.
I don't see Chicago winning the Eastern Conference without Derrick Rose. It's sad, I really don't want to see Miami win it this year.
I feel bad for all the Bulls fan out there because their team had the most depth in the Eastern Conference and there is no match-up I enjoy watching more than Rajon Rondo vs. Derrick Rose. Someday there will be a rematch of the 2009 1st round series that spawned NBA record 7 overtimes.
Are the Hawks and Pacers for real? Atlanta Hawks, Indiana Pacers | Comments Led by Danny Granger, the Pacers have scored 107.8 points per 100 possessions in their last 20 games, a scoring rate that would lead the league over the full season. (Ron Hoskins/NBAE via Getty Images) The season in the Eastern Conference began with two superpowers and a bunch of other teams whose absolute playoff ceiling seemed to be hosting, and probably losing, a Game 6 against the Bulls or Heat. But Miami’s recent listless play and the endless series of nagging injuries to Derrick Rose (and to a lesser extent, Luol Deng) have thrown a monkey wrench into that assumed scenario, and the discussion of which Eastern Conference teams might break up Miami-Chicago party has focused on the surging Celtics and Knicks. It has not focused on two other teams quietly peaking at the right time: Indiana and Atlanta, the latter a conference semifinalist for three straight seasons and the other a team that has proven it can at least irritate ...
Amazing. I pick the Miami Heat to win the Eastern Conference. But them losing at home big to the Celtics (2 losses to them within a week) and now to the Bulls (without Derrick Rose, in a way) makes me want to reconsider my pick.
see. the bulls are still amazing even though Derrick Rose is out. that's why they are number one in the Eastern Conference. :)
