Two Fallen Heroes of the Left -The evil that Men do Live after them.(from Canada Free Press) Shakespeare had Mark Antony comment in his funeral oration for Caesar that “the Evil that men do lives after them, the good is oft interred with their bones” – a wistful remark on the propensity of the Roman mob to forget the many benefits they enjoyed under his reign and how grateful they had been during his lifetime only to abandon him and join in the joy of his overthrow. The Bible too recalls how many exult in “How the Mighty have Fallen” 2 Samuel:27. The recent death of American folk singer Pete Seeger and the renewed charges of Woody Allen’s ex-wife’s daughter, Dylan Farrow present the reverse case. Both of them continue to be worshipped by the Political Left and, even more remarkably, by many in the American Jewish community who continue to regard them as icons of the cultural wars. This, in spite of a history of more than 40 years of unrepentant Stalinism by Seeger (until he allegedly saw th ...

I'm so conflicted with how to feel about our entertainment industry at the moment. This year has really illuminated the sexual exploitation of young people that pervades Hollywood. Dylan Farrow bravely issued a public disclosure of the sexual abuse she suffered at the hands of adoptive father, director Woody Allen. Next, James Franco blatantly attempts to proposition an underage girl on social media in a scheme that may have been a publicity stunt for his upcoming indie film. His advances were overtly sexual---why else would he ask of her age? Now, just this week the director of the X-Men franchise Bryan Singer is accused of sexually abusing a teenage boy multiple times in the 1990s. This disturbing pattern of behavior clearly reflects the abuse of power by male figureheads in the entertainment industry. America should take a good look at the people behind their movie screens and rally to have Hollywood purged for this sordid culture of sexual predation.

Just when I think I've got all the people dedicated to publicly doubting and questioning Dylan Farrow off my friend's list. *sigh*
The allegations of childhood sexual abuse by Dylan Farrow against her at the time stepfather Woody Allen has brought up much discussion; not necessary whether Allen is guilty or not, but if it is possible to implant false memories in an individual. Many people believe memory works like a recording device, however, decades of psychological research says otherwise; memory is suggestive. The misinformation effect is a perfect example of this; when an individual is witness to an event then later exposed to new and misleading information regarding it; their recollection of the event often tend to be distorted. This can be prompted by suggestions; through the method of questioning utilized to the emphasis of particular verbs, nouns and adjectives used in the question. An example of this is an experiment by Loftus and Palmer in 1994 whereby substituting the word “bumped”, “hit” and “smashed” participants described higher collision speeds and inserted details such as seeing broken glass. But what abou ...
Dylan Farrow has responded to an op-ed Woody Allen published in The New York Times Friday. In the response, provided to The Hollywood Reporter, Farrow denounced Allen's op-ed -- in which he suggested Farrow's mother, Mia Farrow, had coached her to accuse Allen of sexually assaulting her as a child.

So it seems Dylan Farrow is not actually a bloke.
From The New Yorker article "LISTENING TO DYLAN FARROW" BY SASHA WEISS rdlyonstudioFeb 11, 2014 The Allen/Farrow debacle is dramatically located at the intersection where trust between a parent and a child, betrayal between a man and a woman, lust between an older man and a younger woman and vague personal liberties all converge. No one reading this comment has escaped confusion, pain, trauma or denial with regard to at least one of these equations in their own lives. As such the actual facts are lost in a swampy, unconscious, tortured realm where it is all but impossible to see clearly. Woody, Dylan, Mia and their families will carry this anguish to their graves. I pity them.
An Open Letter From Dylan Farrow By DYLAN FARROW Frances SilverDylan Farrow (A note from Nicholas Kristof: In 1993, accusations that Woody Allen had abused his adoptive daughter, Dylan Farrow, filled the headlines, part of a sensational story about the celebrity split between Allen and his girlfriend, Mia Farrow. This is a case that has been written about endlessly, but this is the first time that Dylan Farrow herself has written about it in public. It’s important to note that Woody Allen was never prosecuted in this case and has consistently denied wrongdoing; he deserves the presumption of innocence. So why publish an account of an old case on my blog? Partly because the Golden Globe lifetime achievement award to Allen ignited a debate about the propriety of the award. Partly because the root issue here isn’t celebrity but sex abuse. And partly because countless people on all sides have written passionately about these events, but we haven’t fully heard from the young woman who was at the heart of ...
International Arts News: Those Brand-Name Musicals ‘Aladdin’ and ‘Rocky’ Among Movies Inspiring Musicals - The New York Times (19-02-2014) By BEN BRANTLEY Want Your Show To Make It On Broadway? It’s All About The Branding Back in the days of vaudeville — or to be precise, a 1959 musical’s version of vaudeville — a wise old stripper delivered some immortal advice for anyone starting out in showbiz: “You gotta have a gimmick, if you wanna have a chance.” Thus spake the trumpet-tooting Mazeppa, addressing the title character of “Gypsy.” Those words still resonate today for those who would succeed on Broadway, where audiences are fickle, and attention spans are short. But Miss Mazeppa, pro that she was, would surely want to tweak her motto for contemporary usage. On the Broadway of the 21st century, especially in the very risky and very expensive arena of musicals, it’s not enough just to have a gimmick. If you want the crowds to come, you gotta have a brand name. And if that name co ...

IS THE NEWS REPLACING LITERATURE? February the 13th, 2014. BY LEE SIEGEL Source: The New Yorker In the postwar period, a generation of critics, inspired by Lionel Trilling, encapsulated the difference between high art and popular art in a single word: “complexity.” “Literature,” Trilling wrote, “is the human activity that takes the fullest and most precise account of variousness, possibility, complexity and difficulty.” Henry James, Austen, Coleridge, and Shakespeare (“King Lear” was the pinnacle of Trilling’s qualities), not to mention modernists from Proust to Kafka, from Woolf to Celine: their books are sanctuaries of anti-closure and infinite perspective, of right and wrong mashed together and dissolved. Following the endless turbulent commentary on Dylan Farrow and Woody Allen, and the commentary on the commentary, you could be forgiven for feeling that literary art, as Trilling defined it, has been largely displaced by life—or, at least, by the pictures of life ceaselessly produc ...

I am really not insensitive to the suffering of either party, but I must say that this very public domestic quarrel between Mia Farrow and Woody Allen is both embarrassing and salacious. Since it is far too late, at least legally, for Dylan Farrow to file criminal complaints against her stepfather, this amounts to yet another celebrity "trial by press" and it is purely obscene. No one disputes that Allen's marriage to another stepdaughter, Soon-Yi Previn, was ill-advised and morally ambiguous. But that was fifteen years ago. Mia Farrow had every right to feel humiliated and wrongly used at the time, but she really needs to move on with her life. Destroying a 77-year old Hollywood director's reputation is a Sisyphean task, doomed to futility. At any rate, shame on both Allen and Farrow for dragging their adult children into a decades-old domestic dispute. And shame on the NYTimes for being an enabler for this circus. If Allen is a paedophile, then someone with criminal jurisdiction needs to charge h ...

The Critical Mom thinks that everyone should read the actual findings of the Yale group that evaluated Dylan Farrow. These findings impress me as profoundly flawed: the factor cited as evidence that Dylan lied or that she was was manipulated into giving a false statement or that she could not tell the difference between fantasy and reality, namely her wish to control the story impresses me as the evidence that she was molested. Her own story is the only thing she had:

Kudos to Dylan Farrow for standing up to her molestor after 20 years of secrecy. Woody Allen has the nerve to BLAME MIA, Dylan's mother, for the accusations. Reminds me of someone I know.LOL. Woody Allen, and other RECENTLY OUTED CHILD MOLESTORS: everyone knows what you have done. The more you deny it, the more obvious it is! Just remember, with every smile and hug a loved one gives you, in the back of their minds THEY NOW KNOW THE TRUTH. IF ONLY you could read people's minds, you would know just how many people in your own circle see you as you truly are: one who molested an innocent child, you would be surprised. Kudos to all the victims of child abuse out there as well and God Bless!
Last Saturday, Dylan Farrow wrote an op-ed for the New York Times' blog detailing the (alleged) sexual abuse she experienced by Woody Allen. Farrow described what had happened to her in harrowing detail and also implored both those that worked with Allen as well as the general public not to ignore c...
has been loosely following the Woody Allen / Dylan Farrow "he groped / she imagined" media battle. I have always thought that he is highly over-rated, that most of his films are self-absorbed, pseudo-intellectual, New York-centric crap, and that his audience is fairly limited: 65% self-absorbed, pseudo-intellectual crap-filled New Yorkers; 10% actual intellectual New Yorkers; 10% actors who pretend to like his films in hope that he'll cast them in future films and improve their credibility; 10% people who watch his films so they can tell other people they did and pretend to like them; and 5% who actually like his movies. And from his semi-autobiographical films and the characters in them based on him, and the whole diddle and marry the son's adopted stepsister / quasi-girlfriend's stepdaughter escapade, it hardly beggars belief that he could have molested the little girl.
Dylan Farrow writes: That he got away with what he did to me haunted me as I grew up. I was stricken with guilt that I had allowed him to be near other little girls. I was terrified of being touched by men. I developed an eating disorder. I began cutting myself. That torment was made worse by Hollywood. All but a precious few (my heroes) turned a blind eye. Most found it easier to accept the ambiguity, to say, “who can say what happened,” to pretend that nothing was wrong. Actors praised him at awards shows. Networks put him on TV. Critics put him in magazines. Each time I saw my abuser’s face — on a poster, on a T-shirt, on television — I could only hide my panic until I found a place to be alone and fall apart.

I am sympathetic to what Dylan Farrow is going/went through and I believe her 100% and Woody Allen is a creep. However. Can we please stop with the public letters. All of them from everyone ever.
Woody Allen speaks out in response to Dylan Farrow's accusations
"Nothing he says or writes will change the truth." - Dylan Farrow I believe her. What does she have to gain from lying?
After careful consideration I have concluded that Woody Allen could not have done what Dylan Farrow has accused him of having done. Mr. Allen was not raised in a religion such as Catholicism that fetishizes the innocence of youth (never mind Augustine). (I am being sarcastic, of course, with the purpose of baiting a certain person who once claimed that the Church's supposed fetishizing of virgin purity predisposed Catholics to pedophilia.)
Woody Allen issued his own response to Dylan Farrow in the New York Times on Friday. He staunchly defended himself by bringing up points like his claustrophobia and Mia Farrow’s hatred towards him. He started off by claiming it was all a ploy and used the old, “if you were a rational person,...
I am a survivor of years of Child Sexual Abuse. I have no reason to hide this, whisper it or have shame around it. If everyone on FB who was molested as a child announced it on their fb post then we would clearly see what an epidemic it is. So why in the world would we wonder about Dylan Farrow and mind our own business when it comes to Woody Allen?or our uncle?or Step dad ?or brother? or father? Or Babysitter? We who are survivors know that Dylan Farrows NYT article rings all too true. Please, stop the silence, lose the shame, end the need to protect molesters and SPEAK OUT. That is the only thing that will end it. Check out Secret Survivors Tool Kit.
Dylan Farrow has fired the latest volley in her war of words with adoptive father Woody Allen, who says she was coached by mother Mia to accuse him of molestation.
also for your perusal: the legal custody documents from when Woody Allen tried to gain custody of Dylan Farrow, which outline how he was going to a psychologist for his "extremely inappropriate behaviour" concerning Dylan from when she was THREE, and how he "stared at her when she was naked," how he would rest his head in her crotch, how he had molested her multiple times before the attic incident, and how even though he tried to take custody of many of Mia Farrows children he showed literally no parenting skills at all and refused to live in the same house as Mia Farrow because he hated the kids so much. Besides the ones he abused, of course.
Uh-oh! If Dylan Farrow keeps talking, she could just cost Cate Blanchett an Oscar! A win for Cate is also a win for Woody Allen, who certainly isn't looking like a winner these days.

How telling is it about my character that the only reason I think that Woody Allen most definitely raped Dylan Farrow is because I really, really hated Annie Hall?
I am so sick of the media referring to Dylan Farrow as Mia Farrow and Woody Allen's "adoptive daughter"! She is their DAUGHTER! Every time they preface the relationship with the word "adoptive" it sends a message that she is not a "real" daughter. Yes, my kids are adopted, but I do not refer to them as my "adopted" children. THEY ARE MY KIDS!
Regarding who to believe in the Dylan Farrow vs Woody Allen debate. It is not easy to take sides. No one wants to demonize a great talent, but we should be so quick to discredit a child's experience. One thing that I've learned through study and experience, and which is very well documented in psychology, is that an abuser will routinely blame the victim and attempt to appear to everyone as if they are in fact the victim. This cover and self protection of their own ego and identity is connected to narcissism. An innocent person will rarely try to invert the victim/victimizer scenario. They will simply deny the accusation and do what they can to demonstrate their innocence. But they will not feel a need to tear down the accuser in the process.
Sorry but at this point, if you think Dylan Farrow is lying, you're probably an *** who doesn't want to feel bad about liking Annie Hall
Maureen Orth responds to the columns that have been published in the wake of Dylan Farrow's public allegations.
"If speaking out about my experience can help others stand up to their tormentors, it will be worth the pain and suffering my father continues to inflict on me. Woody Allen has an arsenal of lawyers and publicists but the one thing he does not have on his side is the truth. I hope this is the end of his vicious attacks and of the media campaign by his lawyers and publicists, as he’s promised. I won’t let the truth be buried and I won’t be silenced." - Dylan Farrow Not sure whether this is true or false but it doesn't really matter. In order for her to heal she has to forgive him and move forward in her life. I know, I forgave the person who did the same to me. That day freed me from the torment I had. I chose to no longer be the victim.
Annie Hall is one of my favorite movies of all time. I think it's near *** perfect, and I watch it once or twice a year. It's the kind of movie I wish I could make. I thought my opinion in the Woody Allen/Dylan Farrow situation was neutral due to the ambiguity of the facts; however, I find myself having zero interest in ever putting one of my Allen DVDs in the player again. Whether he did it or not, it's difficult not to let this ugly situation skew his art.

It burns me every time I read "Soon Yi Previn, Mia Farrow's adopted daughter" or Dylan Farrow, the adopted daughter of Woody and Mia". Soon Yi is Mia Farrow's daughter as is Dylan. Dylan Farrow is Woody Allen's daughter. It's disrespectful enough that we use the same term for the process of acquiring a pet, toy doll, donations for people in need, etc as we do the process of securing parental rights of a child. Please stop disrespecting the parent/child relationship by throwing the word adopted in there to make it seem like these women have less of a relationship with their mother (or father in Dylan's case) because they are adopted. End of rant. Thank you.
Apparently, Dory Previn’s 1970 song “With My Daddy in the Attic” disprove Dylan Farrow's account of what happened to her in the 90's.
Saturday afternoon- so tired of living in the frozen tundra..br. Life's elevator has taken me back down to reality level, where I must hit the gym, finish a new resume' (man that's hard after you've lived so long!), prepare for the Valentines Day show at the Art's Garage in Del Ray Beach. Yes, surely Florida will be warmer. I've been mulling over the nasty Woody Allen discussion. After viewing three friends posts who are joyful about his rebuttal, I decided to read Dylan's NY Times letter and review the info-even knowing the truth- that None of us will ever know the real truth, no one but Woody Allen and Dylan Farrow. I personally have been falsely accused for something (not sexual by the way) and also very close to someone who was falsely accused during the McMartin Witch Hunts in the 90's. I have experienced first hand in my own family the kind of abuse (they called it playing doctor in the old days) of young girls that used to happen all the time and No one ever said anything. It was unspeakable and w ...

So, my question is this: if you believe Dylan Farrow and are so disgusted by what Woody Allen did that you can no longer watch his films, are you being morally inconsistent if you still appreciate Wagnerian Opera?
