Dwight David Ike Eisenhower (October 14, 1890 – March 28, 1969) was the 34th President of the United States from 1953 until 1961. He had previously been a five-star general in the United States Army during World War II, and served as Supreme Commander of the Allied Forces in Europe; he had responsibility for planning and supervising the invasion of North Africa in Operation Torch in 1942–43 and the successful invasion of France and Germany in 1944–45, from the Western Front.

As a Dwight D Eisenhower , Gloria Steinem, Howard Zinn, Helen Caldicott type American Scientist it is misleading to hear the nonsense about the various "security agencies nefarious actions" I am hearing today. It is instructive to go back 100 years and "think" about that time when our ancestors were first, due to science and the associated ability to "ship" goods from slave labor regions to wealthy countries, "moved away" from being pretty much "self sufficient" as they stopped growing or "gathering" their own food and providing their own water. Europe was already so dependent on this, 100 years ago, that Germany had to surrender in WWI because Germans couldn't "eat", because their Navy lost the sea component of the war. "Container Ships", if you will, are the indirect source of every millionaires wealth,. This is significant because for thousands of years, basically everybody on our planet grew or caught their own food and were "depe .. ...

Facts about the D-Day not today, but tomorrow! lol 1 Planning for Operation Overlord began in earnest in 1943 with Dwight D Eisenhower made supreme commander. British general Bernard Montgomery, hero of the Eighth Army in North Africa, was put in charge of the ground troops. 2 About 3,200 reconnaissance missions were launched in the run-up to the invasion to take photos of vital locations. 3 In the summer of 1943 an early copy of the plans blew out of a window in Norfolk House, London. A man who was passing by handed them in, saying his sight was too bad to read them. 4 Beach landings in Normandy were chosen instead of the Pas-de-Calais because defences were lighter and advancing troops would have fewer rivers and canals to cross. 5 There were to be five landing zones along a 50-mile stretch of coast. The Americans would attack at Utah and Omaha, the British at Gold and Sword and Canadian troops at Juno. 6 D-Day was originally set for June 5 but had to be postponed for 24 hours because of bad weather. 7 T ...

The tree, which was situated on the left side of the 17th, became world famous in 1956 when Eisenhower, the then president and an Augusta National member, lobbied for the its removal because of how often he hit it with his tee shot. His request was denied and since that time it has been known affectionately as the Eisenhower Tree.

Reagan was not without his faults; the biggest one was his spending increases were not matched by the promised cuts, which is mainly the fault of congress, but Reagan failed to use the bully pulpit to fight for them. I liked Reagan. He had vision - "Mr Gorbachev - TEAR DOWN THIS WALL!!!" and he plotted with John Paul II and the Iron Lady to make it happen. There were statesmen in his day, and he was one. I remember Top O'Neill, who went toe to toe with Reagan, but at the end of the day they were friends and could work together, not like this pantywaist of a president that defiles the office once held individuals with vision, love of country, like Washington, Jefferson, Madison, Lincoln, Harry S Trumen, Dwight D Eisenhower, John F Kennedy, Richard N Nixon, Ronald W Regan. You never saw any of these men claiming "I did not have sex with that woman" (ok, maybe Kennedy should have, but he kept it quiet so it did not dimish the office) or sending arms to Islamic Jihadists. CORPORATE TAX DODGERS AND THEIR FAVORITE LOOPHOLES As the budget battles in Washington continue, corporations have stepped into the fray with some of the most aggressive lobbying we’ve seen in years – calling for cuts to corporate tax rates, a widening of offshore tax loopholes that already cost the U.S. Treasury $90 billion a year, and cuts to government services and benefits, including Social Security and Medicare. In making their case, corporate executives decry the U.S.’s 35% corporate tax rate claiming it is the highest in the world and makes their businesses uncompetitive globally. The evidence suggests otherwise. Corporate profits are at a 60-year high, while corporate taxes are near a 60-year low [See Figure]. U.S. stock markets are at record levels, and American CEOs are paid far more than executives who run firms of similar size in other nations. Many U.S. corporations pay a higher tax rate to foreign governments than they do here at home. America’s 35% tax rate is the highest among indu ...

All of us have heard this term "preventive war" since the earliest days of Hitler. I recall that is about the first time I heard it. In this day and time, if we believe for one second that nuclear fission and fusion, that type of weapon, would be used in such a war — what is a preventive war? I would say a preventive war, if the words mean anything, is to wage some sort of quick police action in order that you might avoid a terrific cataclysm of destruction later. A preventive war, to my mind, is an impossibility today. How could you have one if one of its features would be several cities lying in ruins, several cities where many, many thousands of people would be dead and injured and mangled, the transportation systems destroyed, sanitation implements and systems all gone? That isn't preventive war; that is war. I don't believe there is such a thing; and, frankly, I wouldn't even listen to anyone seriously that came in and talked about such a thing. ... It seems to me that when, by definition, a term i ...
Hey Everyone! My daughter Kimmi is going to the rainforest in Costa Rico with this program People to People as a Student Ambassador next July! And she will be raising the money for the trip on her own besides whatever scholarship she can obtain by writing an essay! So far she will be having a bake sale, a benefit in Lafayette with a silent auction of items she will ask local stores and restaurants as sponsors for, and a garage sale. She has 4400.00 to raise by June! This ambassador program will give her hours of service to others in a way that will profoundly influence her perspective of the world around her foremost, as well as assist her in building a portfolio for college! More will be revealed about dates of her planned events which I will keep you all aware of! What a blessing for her to be invited by this program that was initiated by President Dwight D Eisenhower in 1956! Very exciting!

On Saturday I put Shelby on a plane to Europe. She will be over there till July 24th. She started out in France and has been in Paris and to Normandy where the battle of D-Day was fought, and saw the gravestones if the falling soldiers. She is seeing a big piece of history that was really interesting. She tried snails, said they were ok but not something she would eat everyday, and she tried frog legs and said they taste like chicken. She went and saw the Mona Lisa portrait. She went up to the top of the Eiffel Tower and toured the Notre Dame Cathedral. She is now on a ferry and headed to Whales. Have talked to her several times and she is having fun. Miss her like crazy but know that she is having a blast with People to People Ambassadors program. This trip she is going to France, Whales, England and Ireland. Eisenhower and Soviet Premier Nikita Khrushchev trade verbal threats over the future of Cuba. In the following years, Cuba became a dangerous focus in the Cold War competition between the United States and Russia. Khrushchev fired the first shots during a speech in Moscow. "One should not forget," the Soviet leader declared, "that now the United States is no longer at an unreachable distance from the Soviet Union as it was before." He charged that the United States was "plotting insidious and criminal steps" against Cuba. Ready to take on the day after sleeping good. Not sure what I might do today but I do have a lot to look forward to through this week. Finally finished a '34 Ford Cabriolet and I also started work on a '48 Ford Woody. I'm also finishing up the RMS Titanic before I start work on the USS Arizona. Or maybe I'll start work on the USS Dwight D. Eisenhower. Been finding ways to keep busy and keep my mind occupied whilst not dwelling on the negatives and the constant barrage of bad news I get on the news. Life is meant to be enjoyed and not to focus on the negatives in the world. Might also drag out some old freeway drawings later and work on those. really not sure what I want to do today but keep myself and my mind free and clear of negative news.
New review just posted on Amazon from Michael Austin: "WRAPPED IN THE FLAG is a well-written, compelling memoir of a political movement that most Americans know almost nothing about. During the Cold War, the John Birch Society defined the far-right wing of American politics. Born in the aftermath of the McCarthy Hearings, it was originally organized to continue McCarthy's work--to oppose communism in all of its forms and to root out communists and communist sympathizers in American government and culture. As the group developed, it folded more and more conservative causes into the general umbrella of the "International Communist Conspiracy"--a highly organized and well-funded superorganism that included labor unions, civil rights organizations, universities, public schools, the news media, and, minimally, two American presidents: Dwight D. Eisenhower and John F. Kennedy. The essential facts about the Birch Society are now part of the historical record. What Connor gives us are the feelings of a thoughtful ...

5 reasons why I follow Republican Ideals. 1.) Abraham Lincoln - Believed slavery was a disgrace, and desired freedom for all. 2.) Theodore Roosevelt - I cant think of any one more "Red Blooded American". 3.) Dwight D. Eisenhower - A leader like no other. 4.) Ronald W. Reagan - Saw America as the last stand for freedom on earth. 5.) George W. Bush - A man who never let politics pollute his faith. This is all just my opinions, but I think they're pretty good ones.
Thank you to the students at Dwight D. Eisenhower Academy of Global Studies.

"From this day forward, the millions of our school children will daily proclaim in every city and town, every village and rural school house, the dedication of our nation and our people to the Almighty. In this way we are reaffirming the transcendence of religious faith in America's heritage and future; in this way we shall constantly strengthen those spiritual weapons which forever will be our country's most powerful resource, in peace or in war" - Dwight D. Eisenhower

Caduceus - The cadueus is a symbol of medicine established in the U.S. In the late 19th century. It was popularized as a result of the US Army Medical Corps adopting the caduceus as its insignia in 1902. A caduceus is a short staff entwined by two serpents and is surmounted by wings. Yesterday visited the National Railway Museum in York and got to sit in the drivers seats of the A4 Pacific class Mallard, the world's fasted steam train and one of her sister engines the Dwight D Eisenhower from Wisconsin USA. How fantastic is that? There are 6 A4 Pacifics on display from varying parts of the globe so if you would like to see them, go now as they are only altogether for a few weeks and it is unlikely they will ever be together again.
In 1919 the US Army sent a convoy of trucks cross-country from Camp Meade, Maryland, to San Francisco, just to see if it could be done. It could, but only just. The trip took two months at an average speed of less than 7 m.p.h. The young officer in charge of the convoy was Dwight D. Eisenhower. Thirty-five years later, as President of the United States, he appointed a committee to study America’s transportation needs. As Kenneth T. Jackson has observed: ‘The committee considered no alternative to a massive highway system, and it suggested a major redirection of national policy to benefit the car and the truck.’ 43 This should have come as no great surprise; the chairman of the committee was on the board of directors of General Motors. In 1956, in response to the committee’s urgings, Eisenhower signed into law the landmark Interstate Highway Act, inaugurating the construction of 42,500 miles of superhighway and kicking off an era when America would spend 75 per cent of its transportation funds on h ...

You and I-my fellow citizens-need to be strong in our faith that all nations, under God, will reach the goal of peace with justice. I have not read the book, but if this is not out of context, this is scary. "Behold the Pale Horse" by William Cooper, original printing in 1991.
A central premise of the conservative view on immigration is border security. That view is not limited to the political right. It is shared by most Americans -- a fact our elected public servants in Congress (particularly Republicans) should keep in mind. A recent CNN poll asked Americans, "What should be the main focus of the U.S. government in dealing with immigration policy?" Only 36% said "creating a path to citizenship for many immigrants" illegally in the country. The overwhelming majority -- 62% -- said the main focus should be "increasing border security to reduce or eliminate the number of immigrants coming into this country without permission." Let's break down the data even further: 74% of Republicans support border security over legalization. 65% of independents support border security over legalization. Democrats are split with 49% favoring border security and 50% favoring legalization. Even among "Non-whites," 47% believe the main focus of our immigration policy should be border security, wh ...

Should any political party attempt to abolish social security, unemployment insurance, and eliminate labor laws and farm programs, you would not hear of that party again in our political history. There is a tiny splinter group, of course, that believes you can do these things. Among them are H. L. Hunt (you possibly know his background), a few other Texas oil millionaires, and an occasional politician or business man from other areas.Their number is negligible and they are stupid. -- Dwight D. Eisenhower

This celebration of the 75th anniversary of the 126 miles per hour achievement of The A4 Mallard at York has been fantastic. No less than six A4 Pacifics on the turntable, including Dwight D Eisenhower from the USA and Dominion of Canada normally domiciled in their countries.
Just been to see the Gresley Pacifics at York - a tad crowded even on a Monday morning. Might be a bit easier when they come to Shildon in Feb.
On this day in the American presidency, July 8: • 1919, President Woodrow Wilson received a tumultuous welcome in New York City after his return from the Versailles (vehr-SY’) Peace Conference in France. • 1950, President Harry S. Truman named Gen. Douglas MacArthur commander-in-chief of United Nations forces in Korea. (Truman ended up sacking MacArthur for insubordination nine months later.) • 1958, President Dwight D. Eisenhower began a visit to Canada, where he conferred with Prime Minister John Diefenbaker and addressed the Canadian Parliament. • 1972, the Nixon administration announced a deal to sell $750 million in grain to the Soviet Union. (However, the Soviets were also engaged in secretly buying subsidized American grain, resulting in what critics dubbed “The Great Grain Robbery.”) • 1975, President Gerald R. Ford announced he would seek a second term of office. • 2003, In Senegal at the start of a five-nation tour of Africa, President George W. Bush called American slavery one ...
DID YOU KNOW ?? The original Pledge of Allegiance "I pledge allegiance to my Flag and the Republic for which it stands- one nation indivisible-with liberty and justice for all." On September 8,1892, the Boston based "The Youth's Companion" magazine published a few words for students to repeat on Columbus Day that year. Written by Francis Bellamy, the circulation manager and native of Rome, New York, and reprinted on thousands of leaflets, was sent out to public schools across the country. On October 12, 1892, the quadricentennial of Columbus' arrival, more than 12 million children recited the Pledge of Allegiance, thus beginning a required school-day ritual. At the first National Flag Conference in Washington D.C., on June14, 1923, a change was made. For clarity, the words "the Flag of the United States" replaced "my flag". In the following years various other changes were suggested but were never formally adopted. It was not until 1942 that Congress officially recognized the Pledge of Allegiance. One year ...

Through humor, you can soften some of the worst blows that life delivers. And once you find laughter, no matter how painful your situation might be, you can survive it. - Bill Cosby A sense of humor is part of the art of leadership, of getting along with people, of getting things done. - Dwight D. A sense of humor keeps our minds flexible and open to insight and new ideas.
