I forwarded the post of Mr. Parker Memory to the chairwoman of the school board, Mrs. Couch, along with the following note: Honorable Mrs. Couch: There is profound sadness from all NBF alumni to learn Mr. Billy Parker passed away on Jan 1, 2014. He was affectionately revered as a caring and inspiring principal and member of the Duval County School Board. Many N.B. Forrest Sr. High alumni have shared personal experiences when Mr. Parker inspired them. The attached is just one. Please read it. and consider it as another inspiration to establish an NBF memorial to the school, teachers, staff, and achievements of the alumni. John Lockhart
My Dad passed to the Lord in his sleep New Year's Eve. He had not been sick but shared with me last week he was going to give up golf (he played for over 60 years & scored in the 60s at his prime) because he was not competitive anymore. Honestly he also told me he was bored because most of his golf & gin player partners were dead. He was a giant of a man, an athlete for UF Gators, a coach at several Jacksonville schools, a Dean of Boys at either Jackson or Lee, a High School Principal (Forrest & Wolfson), then got himself elected to the Duval County School Board 6 times, (24 years of service) AFTER he retired. He was also Associate (Assistant) Superintendent of Duval County School System before he retired. He did so many things, he & my Grandpop, Colvin Pearle Parker builtt from the ground a 50 foot sailboat, many houses, furniture, and most importantly, he helped build a brighter future for literally hundreds of Duval County students. My Dad was I believe a role model and a Hero even to so many youths in ...
