T.J. Oshie was named to Team USA partly because of his prowess in the shootout. That paid off when he put on a show in the shootout to beat Russia 3-2 on Saturday. International rules allow a player to go multiple times in the shootout after the initial three shoot, and Oshie connected four out of six times to get the win. "I've seen him do 1,000 times in practice, that little move he does," said USA and St. Louis Blues teammate David Backes. "It kind of makes me chuckle when I see it." Oshie nearly had pull out his full repertoire when Ilya Kovalchuk tied the shootout and Pavel Datsyuk had put the Russians ahead at one point. "His hockey sense is off the charts and he makes plays," Backes said. "Today he got to do it in front of a lot of spectators here and a lot of spectators back home." The Americans had a great chance to win it in overtime, but Russian goalie Sergei Bobrovsky stopped Patrick Kane on a breakaway with 2:41 left in the five-minute OT. Bobrovsky squeezed his pads as Kane tried to push the ...
I'm not used to rooting against Bobrovsky and Tyutin. Adversely, I'm really not used to pulling for David Backes and Dustin Brown.
As of yesterday’s Olympic competition, Norway still leads with 13 medals, but the United States stepped it up and has 12, as does the Netherlands. Paul Stastny scored twice during a six-goal barrage in the second period, and the United States got off to a spectacular start in the Olympic men's hockey tournament with a 7 to 1 victory over Slovakia on Thursday. Ryan Kesler, David Backes, Phil Kessel and Dustin Brown also scored as the Americans battered Slovakia for six consecutive goals in a 13:51 span, turning what was expected to be a tough matchup into a laugher. Jonathan Quick made 22 saves in his Olympic debut for the U.S., which hopes to improve on its silver-medal finish in Vancouver despite a roster that isn't thought to have the offensive power of Canada, Russia or Sweden. Blues netminder, Jaroslav Halak had a rough game for Slovakia, giving up 5 goals on 25 shots, but didn’t stand a chance of stopping most of those. Meanwhile, Blues players T.J. Oshie had 2 assists and Kevin Shattenkirk h ...
USA 7, Slovakia 1, final It was all in the second period as USA sets a tone with a dominating performance in their opening game. USA had the 1-0 lead after the first but Tomas Tatar got the Slovaks on the board in the first minute of the second. USA answered back with six straight goals in the middle frame to secure the win. Petr Budaj took over in the Slovak net in favor of Jaro Halak before the second intermission and took the loss as Dustin Brown's goal is on him. Second period was the game and not much of note happened in the third, not even a penalty. Shots were 6-6 in the final frame. *Slovakia Goal: Second Period ~Tomas Tatar, assist Marian Hossa USA Goals: First Period ~John Carlson assisted by Phil Kessel and James Van Riemsdyk Second Period ~Ryan Kesler, assist Patrick Kane ~Paul Stasny, assists Max Pacioretty, TJ Oshie ~David Backes, assist Phil Kessel ~Paul Stasny, assists Kevin Shattenkirk, TJ Oshie ~Phil Kessel, assists Ryan Kesler, Jame Van Riemsdyk ~Dustin Brown, assists John Carlson, Patr ...

USA team captain not announced yet for 2014 Sochi Olympics but names singled out are: Zach Parise, David Backes, Ryan Sutter, Dustin Brown and Ryan Callahan- Jasmine
Can't wait to see our Olympic Team...Team USA a bit surprising. No Bobby Ryan?? ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- Bobby Ryan helped the U.S. to the silver medal in the 2010 Olympics. Unless Ryan gets a spot for the Sochi Games to replace an injured player, he will not have a chance to help the Americans go for gold. The U.S. Olympic hockey team was announced Wednesday after Toronto's shootout victory over Detroit in the NHL Winter Classic. "We did not pick the 25 best players," general manager David Poile said. "We picked the 25 players we thought gave us a chance to win the gold medal." Ryan was perhaps the most surprising omission on the 25-man roster. Jack Johnson and Erik Johnson, a pair of defencemen who played in the Vancouver Games, also didn't make the cut. Jimmy Howard, who couldn't make enough stops to help the Red Wings beat the Maple Leafs, appears to be the Americans' third goaltender behind Jonathan Quick and Ryan Miller. At Sochi, the U.S. forwards will be: David Backes, Dustin Brown, Ryan Callahan, Patr ...
Poile: Captain and alternates likely come from this group for Team USA: Ryan Callahan, Dustin Brown, Zach Parise, Ryan Suter, David Backes.
Parise > Stepan + Pavalski combined. I'd also put Dustin Brown and David Backes on that list.
To be fair, David Backes only left the meetings because Dustin Brown showed up.
David Backes would get consideration for Assistant Captain, but for Captain its a 2 horse race, Zach Parise n Dustin Brown.
I think Dustin Brown is what David Backes could be if he was a) on the 2nd line and b) had other scorers in the lineup
A David Backes, Ryan Callahan, Dustin Brown line needs to happen in 2014
If Team USA uses checking line of Dustin Brown, David Backes, and Ryan Callahan, I'll buy a one-way plane ticket to Sochi.
Patrick Kane, Zach Parise, Dustin Brown and David Backes are the best American hockey players in the league.
Team USA captains in the playoffs: David Backes, Dustin Brown and Ryan Callahan
2014 - if the NHL plays in the Sochi Olympics - Dustin Brown, David Backes and Ryan Callahan on the same line. Make it happen USA.
