12 January 1969 - The Beatles met at Ringo Starr's Brookfiled House after George Harrison had quit The Beatles two days earlier. The differences between John Lennon and George Harrison remained unresolved, and Harrison left without agreeing to rejoin The Beatles. On a side note, this was recorded on 10 January 1969 during the Get Back/Let It Be Sessions - Not during the Get Back/Let It Be sessions but rather while recording All Things Must Pass - George Harrison's demo of Get Back for Doris Troy. Doris Troy's album was released in 1970 on the Beatles' Apple Records label. George Harrison, Stephen Stills, Klaus Voormann, Ringo Starr, Peter Frampton, Eric Clapton, Leon Russell and members of Delaney & Bonnie and Friends also contributed to the All-Star line-up of the release. Thank you for adding me. My husband, the late Chris Hadfield was keyboard player with the Jackie Lomax band back in 1968/69. Paul McCartney produced "Thumbing a Ride"with Jackie and the band at Olympic Studios in Barnes on the evening of his and Linda's wedding day. Jackie chose not to release it as he felt it wasn't indicative of his mindset at the time, as it wasn't sufficiently meaningful. By the way, I wonder if anybody here knows what became of the "Timothy Travel" tapes. These were songs and music written by Chris and Doris Troy for a cartoon series Ringo was interested in producing. Chris made some efforts to find them years ago but didn't get very far.

This past fall, near the cinematic season of the VIFF (Vancouver Vancouver International Film Festival) a friend urged me to go with her to see "Muscle Shoals". It turned out to be a captivating film, and since then I have been trying to find out if Doris Troy ever recorded there. Voila! It seems that when Doris sang with the Sweet Inspirations group, they did record at the Muscle Shoals studio. I am not only so pleased to have had my sound hunch confirmed, but also grateful that the connection's been made on the anniversary of her birth. Peace to you. Susilawati The Singer.
Dean Johnson, author of “The Beatles and Me,” told Beatles Examiner Jan. 3 that in this excerpt of a new interview with author Spencer Leigh (“The Beatles in Liverpool”), former Ringo All-Starr Peter Frampton and Jerry Shirley, who worked together in Humble Pie, discuss how the Beatles influenced them and about working in the studio with George Harrison on his solo album, “All Things Must Pass” and Doris Troy's Apple album. The full interview will be in the latest Kindle update of the book. More -
Here's a *** good one hit wonder from Doris Troy, Just One Look, Spring of 1963 Atlantic Records - Jerry Wexler
Happy Birthday to my girl PORTIA GRIFFIN. of The Sweet Inspirations!!! The Sweet Inspirations were founded by Emily "Cissy" Houston (née Drinkard), mother of Whitney Houston, and sister of Lee Warrick (herself the mother of well-known sisters Dee Dee and Dionne Warwick). Emily and Lee were members of The Drinkard Singers, a family group that had the distinction of recording the first Gospel album to appear on a major label—a live recording from The Newport Jazz Festival in 1959. The line-up included Judy Guions (who later became Judy Clay), Marie Epps, Larry Drinkard, Nicholas Drinkard, Ann Moss, Lee and Emily. The original backup group that was so in demand among producers, publishers, artists, and songwriters in the early 1960s included Doris Troy and the two Warwick sisters, with both Doris and Dionne enjoying solo careers with hits ("Just One Look" and "Don’t Make Me Over" respectively, both of which the Sweet Inspirations can be heard on) in 1963. At that time, Sylvia Shemwell (sister of Judy C ...
I am truly thankful for my loving wife Michelle Olgers and have been humming a song all day that reminds me of her. It was recorded by Doris Troy in 1963 and later by Linda Ronstadt. It shouldn't be hard to figure out given those clues. :-)

What have you been listening to on your Sunday morning and now on into the afternoon. Too many cartoons to begin with but then it was to Doris Troy's self-titled album and Dr John's "Locked Down". Also African Head Charge's "Voodoo of the Godsent" going around and around in the car. A bit of Vampire Weekend and now to some old Ry Cooder. How about you?
Just One Look by Doris Troy. Doris Troy's impact on Soul and Pop Music far outweighs her chart entries. Her big, rich, vibrant voice graced recordings by artists as diverse as The Rolling Stones, The Beatles, Solomon Burke, Dusty Springfield, Pink Floyd, Billy Preston, and Maxine Brown, having an impact on singers, particularly in Europe, that can still be heard today. She was a rareity in the early sixties - a singer who wrote her own material (JUST ONE LOOK, WHATCHA GONNA DO ABOUT IT, HOW ABOUT THAT. She was always at the cutting edge. One of the earliest Soul divas, on Atlantic before Aretha, and recording with Kenny Gamble & Leon Huff (I'LL DO ANYTHING) years before the heady days of the Philadelphia sound. Doris was born Doris Higginsen in New York. Her father was a minister, and she went on to sing in gospel groups, having sung in church since a child. In the fifties she joined The Halos, a jazz tinged vocal group, and started writing her own material, scoring her first hit in 1960 - HOW ABOUT THAT ...
Emily "Cissy" Houston (born September 30, 1933) is an American soul, Disco, gospel singer. She led a successful career as a backup singer for such artists as Elvis Presley and Aretha Franklin, and is now primarily a solo artist, and has won a Grammy Award for her work. She is mother to the late singer and actress Whitney Houston, aunt of Dionne and Dee Dee Warwick and a cousin of Leontyne Price. In 1963, then about to give birth to daughter Whitney Houston, she formed the Sweet Inspirations with Doris Troy and niece Dee Dee Warwick. Later, under contract to Atlantic Records, Sylvia Shemwell, Estelle Brown and Myrna Smith form the line-up.During the mid-1960s, the Sweet Inspirations provided backup vocals for a variety of artists, including Otis Redding, Wilson Pickett, Lou Rawls, The Drifters, Dusty Springfield and Houston's niece Dionne Warwick. They appeared on Van Morrison's single Brown Eyed Girl. Houston performed the operatic soprano melody on the Aretha Franklin hit, Ain't No Way,performing with Elv ...
