Tillakaratne Dilshan Tillakaratne Dilshan led the way for Sri Lanka in an 87-run hammering of England in the final one-day international in Colombo on Tuesday. The last encounter in this seven-match series was billed as a fond farewell to experienced duo Kumar Sangakkara and Mahela Jayawardene. The former was playing his final ODI in his home country, while for Jayawardene it was his last match of any description in Sri Lanka. Yet both were outshone by Dilshan, who, in his 300th ODI appearance, struck 101 in the hosts’ total of 302-6, and then took 3-37 from 10 overs as Sri Lanka wrapped up a 5-2 series victory. Jayawardene and Sangakkara both made starts without going on to get the big score the home crowd yearned for, before Dinesh Chandimal and Thisara Perera made half-centuries to boost Sri Lanka’s total As England toiled in their reply, Joe Root continued his fine form in th ...
Experimentation a Total Flop Despite Sri Lanka winning the 6th one day International comprehensively, the experimentation with Mahela Jayewardene opening the innings is a total flop because there were lot of hic-cups before Sri Lanka reached 293; the middle order is left with big hollow if this is continued – even today Dinesh Chandimal failed, at 09 he was missed out on stumping chance, his running between wickets gave many things to ponder and in the final ball he got out. Kusal Jennit Perera should have been spoken to, by head coach and chairman selector what is expected of that, a whole hearted learner and continued as opener for the rest of the games as well. He is too good a raw talent and too young to be treated like this and to let him loose find his own way. It is too close for the world cup to have too many experiments; what is expected of head coach, batting coach and chairman of selectors for the worth of remuneration is to tune the available talents rather than doing experiments as part of ...

CONGRATULATION TO THE Sri Lankan CRICKET TEAM FOR BECOMING THE WORLD T-20 CHAMPIONS -2014 ! It was indeed a team effort. This is verified by the fact that non of our players are in the top 5 of 'most runs scored' or 'most wickets' taken!!! It was a fitting farewell to undoubtedly the' best innovator' in Mahela & the 'most dependable' in Sanga. Sanga proved that form is temporary & class is permanent! Proud of the fact that he stuck to the College motto 'Respice Finem' & indeed he did 'look to the End' & completed the task of making us World Champions!! It seems that it is not a coincident that the 'LION' is a part of TRINITY crest & also in the Sri Lanka flag. The 'LION' indeed ROARED today! Proud be a Sri Lankan & also from the Best School of All!! A final note to appreciate the designated 'Captain' of the team - Dinesh Chandimal - who sacrificed his place in the team for the team. Also I believe we have retained the NO 01 SPOT in the T-20 RANKINGS too!
We did it ... well done to the bowlers and all the team. Take a bow, Dinesh Chandimal for his selflessness !!!

Herath fifer takes Sri Lanka into semis March 31, 2014 10:08 pm A remarkable spell of bowling by left arm spinner Rangana Herath (3.3-2-3-5) saw Sri Lanka pull off a remarkable 59-run victory against New Zealand to book their berth in the semifinals of the ICC World Twenty20 tournament. Playing his first match of the tournament proper, the spinner remarkably claimed five wickets for three runs as New Zealand managed only 60 in 15.3 overs. With the victory, Sri Lanka joined South Africa in the last four from Group One. New Zealand began their chase one batsman short after all-rounder Corey Anderson dislocated a finger trying to take a catch. Herath took four wickets in his first three overs to leave the Kiwis reeling at 29 for five in the eighth over. Kane Williams (42), the only Kiwi batsman to manage double digits, tried his best to offer some resistance but could not stop New Zealand from folding for their lowest total in 20-over cricket. IPL 7 auction: Top base price for Sehwag, Yuvraj, Aussie Ashes heroes Cricketnext Staff | 30-Jan-2014 11:18 AM After missing out on retention from their respective franchises, India veterans Virender Sehwag and Yuvraj Singh - along with Australia's Ashes super star Mitchell Johnson - have attracted the top base price of Rs. 20 million for the IPL players' auction to be held in Bangalore on Feburay 12 and 13. In the list of 233 capped players - which includes 46 Indians - from ten countries finalised by the IPL, only 31 are in the top price bracket. The other prominent Indian names part of the 31 top-grossers are Dinesh Karthik, Pragyan Ojha, Yusuf Pathan, Amit Mishra, Prveeen Kumar and Murali Vijay. With the ICC U19 Cricket World Cup 2014 around the corner, Sri Lanka's T20 captain Dinesh Chandimal reflected back with fond memories upon the time he took part in the tournament, and added that the tournament was an ideal platform to identify future Sri Lankan stars.
Dinesh Chandimal is not expecting Sri Lanka to lose the first test against Pakistan after his century stand with captain Angelo Mathews on Friday provided Sri Lanka with a lead of 241 runs.
Angelo Mathews made amends for missing a century in the first innings with a gritty unbeaten 116 in the second as Sri Lanka racked up a solid lead in the opening Test against Pakistan in Abu Dhabi on Friday. Starting the penultimate day of the match with a slender lead of seven runs, Sri Lanka lost just a single wicket during the entire day to reach 420 for five at stumps, a second-innings lead of 241 runs. The wicket of Dinesh Chandimal (89) was the lone success for the Pakistan bowlers as their hard work proved futile on an unresponsive surface. Left-arm seamer Junaid Khan, who took five wickets in the first innings, picked up his third scalp in the second when Chandimal hooked him straight to Rahat Ali at deep fine leg. Chandimal, unbeaten on 24 overnight, added 138 runs for the fifth wicket with captain Mathews and put paid to Pakistan's hopes of making early inroads. "I’m quite disappointed, because that 89 came in difficult circumstances for the team. It was a really tough situation. But as a team ...
Sri Lanka beat Pakistan in 2nd ODI Saturday, 21 December 2013 Sri Lanka’s late order batsmen held their nerve to beat Pakistan by two wickets and level the series in a match in which fortunes swung from one side to another in Dubai on Friday. Set 285 to chase, Sri Lanka needed 16 off the last two overs and four off the final, as number ten batsman Sachitra Senanayake drove Shahid Afridi for boundary to seal a tense win for his team with two balls to spare. The win levelled the five-match series at 1-1 after Pakistan won the first match by 11 runs in Sharjah on Wednesday. Ahmed Shehzad smashed a career best 124 off 140 balls for his fourth one-day century as Pakistan posted a challenging 284-4 in 50 overs after being sent in to bat. Sri Lanka needed 44 off the last six overs as Angelo Mathews (47) and Dimuth Karunaratne (16 not out) held their nerves during a match-turning 44-run stand for the eighth wicket.Sri Lanka had set themselves up nicely at 159-2 with Kumar Sangakkara (58) and Dinesh Chandimal ( ...

Umar Amin's luck is not on his side. We have to support our youngsters to become legends. What we Pakistanies do is when a youngster comes into the team if he flops 3-4 times we start saying he is this this and bla bla. Rohit Sharma suffered this. Even De Kock suffered it earlier. Even likes of Amla, Bell, Tendulkar, Sangakkara and Mahela suffered same. Jos Buttler, Dinesh Chandimal, Lahiru Thirimanne and David Miller are struggling but are given full support from the management and the nation. Other nations give their heart out supporting a youngster and we say " ABBAY USKI PARCHI HY". If a youngster straight away in his first 2-3 matches produce results then he is next Inzi, Lara and Pointing if not then he is just rubbish. Youngsters are manufactured and then they produce results. So please stop this rubbish. Umar Amin is the future of Pakistan. If you can support Mr.Talent (Umar Akmal) without any significant performance in 4years than why not Umar Amin ? This is the dual-standard which has destroyed ...

West Indies rock Sri Lanka before rain break; match to continue on Monday Date: Mon July 8, 2013 in Cricket | News | Sports | 0 0 PORT-OF-SPAIN, Trinidad — West Indies fast bowler Kemar Roach picked up two crucial wickets with the new ball as West Indies limited Sri Lanka to 60-3 off 19 overs before rain brought an early end to play on Sunday. Roach (7-2-19-2) took the wickets of Mahela Jayawardene and Dinesh Chandimal on a lively pitch at Queen’s Park Oval in Match 5 of the CELKON Mobile Series, before the bad weather intervened. The other wicket went to Jason Holder, the 6-foot-8-inch 21-year-old, playing in his first match of the tri-nation tournament. The match will resume on Monday at 9:30 am (8:30 am Jamaica Time). Roach produced a quick, lifting delivery that hit Jayawardene’s bat and then the helmet before being caught by Devon Smith at point. Roach then produced a superb inswinger that hit the top of Chandimal’s middle stump. Holder, in his third ODI and first in the Caribbean, made the i ...

Tri-Nation Series / News Team news Mathews had said the injury to Dilshan would be an opportunity for others to step up and the most likely player to lend solidity at the top could be Tharanga. Although the pitches in the Caribbean are not going to be markedly different from the ones laid out in England this season, Sri Lanka could include either Sachithra Senanayake or Ajantha Mendis or both in their squad. Sri Lanka (probable): 1 Kusal Perera, 2 Upul Tharanga, 3 Kumar Sangakkara (wk), 4 Mahela Jayawardene, 5 Angelo Mathews (capt), 6 Dinesh Chandimal, 7 Lahiru Thirimanne, 8 Ajantha Mendis, 9 Sachithra Senanayake, 10 Nuwan Kulasekara, 11 Lasith Malinga West Indies settled into a combination that worked for them in England after the suspension of Denesh Ramdin. Although Ramdin is available for selection, West Indies are unlikely to disturb that arrangement, which means that Darren Sammy is likely to remain in the team while Johnson Charles will keep wickets. West Indies (probable): 1 Chris Gayle, 2 Johnson ...
Mahela passes 11,000 runs Veteran Mahela Jayawardene brought all his experience into play as he struck an unbeaten 84 to guide Sri Lanka to a respectable 253 for eight in their ICC Champions Trophy match against Australia here today. Jaywardene made his runs off 81 balls and was involved in an useful partnership of 65 for the sixth wicket with Dinesh Chandimal, who contributed 31 off 32 balls. Mahela Jayawardene surpassed 11,000 runs in One-Day Internationals (ODI). He is the eighth player in the world and third Sri Lankan after Sanath Jayasuriya and Kumar Sangakkara to cross the 11,000-run mark in the ODI format. Jacques Kallis and Sangakkara are the only other cricketers in the elite list apart from Jayawardene to be still playing. The list of the highest run-scorers in ODIs is headed by Sachin Tendulkar who has 18,426 runs to his credit.

Dinesh Chandimal and Mahela Jayawardene discuss tactics during an over break via
Match Commentary Monday 17 Jun, The Oval Mitchell Johnson looked good with the ball today, picking up 3 wickets for 48 runs from his 10 overs. Xavier Doherty bowled with good control to concede just 30 runs from his 10 overs, however Australia will be perhaps more worried than pleased with the amount of turn he was getting, given that Rangana Herath is in the opposition ranks. If Sri Lanka manage to restrict Australia to 164 runs or less, they will go through top of Group A. A classy 84 from Mahela Jayawardene propels Sri Lanka to a decent total of 253 here at The Oval. The veteran looked in fine form, rarely offering a sniff of a chance to the Australian attack. His 50 run stand with Dinesh Chandimal came from just 46 balls and he provided real impetus to the innings. You would feel that that this total is chaseable but the problem for Australia is that they to do it in 29.1 overs if they wish to progress to the semi-finals. Australia require 254 runs to win Innings Break Over 50 (9 runs, 1 wicket)SL 253 ...

2013 Champions Trophy: Meet the teams Sri Lanka: The men from the island nation, who were joint winners in 2002, are playing under a new captain- Angelo Mathews. In Mahela Jayawardene and Kumar Sangakkara- the men who preceded Mathews, it can be said that the Lankans have the ‘proper’ batsmen to handle the heat in England. Lasith Malinga is pretty much the most dangerous bowler in world cricket; and Nuwan Kulasekara’s nagging line and length should come in handy. They kick off their campaign against New Zealand on June 9. Squad: Angelo Mathews (captain), Dinesh Chandimal, Tillakaratne Dilshan, Kusal Perera, Kumar Sangakkara, Mahela Jayawardene, Lahiru Thirimanne, Jeevan Mendis, Thisara Perera, Lasith Malinga, Rangana Herath, Nuwan Kulasekara, Shaminda Eranga, Sachithra Senanayake, Chanaka Welegedara.

The Galle Test match that concluded in a draw on Tuesday was notable for several reasons, but the one that it will perhaps find a place in the record books for is being just the second instance in Test history where eight centuries were scored in five days. Kumar Sangakkara (twice), Lahiru Thirimanne, Dinesh Chandimal, Tillkaratne Dilshan, Mohammad Ashraful, and Nasir Hossain all recorded three figures in a dull Test in which 1543 runs were scored for the loss of just 18 wickets. This marked only the second time that a Test match included eight centurions. The first was at St John's in April 2005 when AB de Villiers, Graeme Smith, Jacques Kallis, Ashwell Prince, Chris Gayle, Ramnaresh Sarwan, Shivnarine Chanderpaul and Dwayne Bravo each scored hundred in another high-scoring stalemate.

“I have seen Angelo Mathews grow as a player and there is a lot more you can get out of him. He is a natural leader and then Dinesh Chandimal (vice-captain) is young and for him it is important to gain exposure, build his image and slowly become the next leader after Angelo. It is a good combination but we need to give them patience and time.” -Kumar Sangakkara-
Sri Lankan public don't like juniors playing IPL: Sanath Jayasuriya Former Sri Lanka captain and present chief selector Sanath Jayasuriya feels that it will be better if junior Sri Lankan players are kept away from IPL although it remains an "individual decision". The dashing opener feels that Sri Lankan people don't like young players participating in the IPL because they adopt different technique which is detrimental to their game. "However, experienced cricketers playing in IPL is infact good. But it is left to individual player's discretion which of the two games is better for him," he added. Jayasuriya said that the national captaincy has been handed over to Angelo Mathews for the smooth transition of the team. "We have picked up some young players and also appointed Angelo Mathews and Dinesh Chandimal as captain and vice-captain for smoother transition of the team. We need to get youngsters groomed by playing alongside senior players, before they quit," the prolific opener of yesteryears told mediap ...
Bangladesh in Sri Lanka 2012-13 Mathews takes over as Sri Lanka captain Angelo Mathews will take over as Test and ODI captain from Mahela Jayawardene for the home Test series against Bangladesh. Dinesh Chandimal will be Mathews' deputy but will lead the national side in the Twenty20 format. Lasith Malinga has been named Sri Lanka's T20 vice-captain. The appointments are for a period of 11 months. Jayawardene was expected to step down from captaincy after the tour of Australia, and Mathews was tipped to take over. Chandimal assumes a senior role in the team, having played five Tests and 50 ODIs. The 20-man squad for the two-Test series starting on March 8 has several fresh faces and some notable absentees from the tour of Australia. All-rounder Angelo Mathews has been appointed Sri Lanka’s new Test and one-day captain for next month’s home series against Bangladesh, selectors announced on Thursday. The 25-year-old replaced prolific batsman Mahela Jayawardene, who stepped down after leading on a recent tour of Australia where Sri Lanka lost the Test series 3-0 and drew a one-day series 2-2. Dinesh Chandimal, named Mathews’s deputy in Tests and one-day internationals, will lead the side in T20 matches. Mathews and Chandimal will lead the teams until the end of January 2014, the Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) said in a statement. Bangladesh will play two Tests, three one-dayers and a one-off T20 match. The Tests will be played in Galle (March 8-12) and Colombo (March 16-20), while Hambantota (March 23 and 25) and Pallekele (March 28) will host the limited overs games. While surfing I saw many comments against the Sri Lankan Young no.3 batsman Lahiru Thirimanne, he is the man who has replaced the legendry batsman Kumar Sangakkara who has scored over 10 runs in both ODI's and in tests. I think that Thirimanne didn't got many chances such as Dinesh Chandimal who normally bats at no.3 or 4 even though Sangakkara is in. Mind you Chandi in the recent past didn't got a place in the team due to his bad form. Thiri batted at no.7 many times and didn't got a chance to spend time at the crease. So how can we compare them!
mahela should sit out the last two ODI's and let mathews captain if chandimal is fit to play! Kusal Perera, Dinesh Chandimal, Dimuth Karunaratne, Lahiru Thirimanne looks good! old heads needs to go!
century from debutant Phil Hughes and sensational fielding helped Australia to a 107-run win against Sri Lanka in Friday's first one-day international at the MCG. FINAL SCORECARD Hughes - who hit 112 from 129 deliveries - became the first Aussie to notch a hundred in their maiden one-day appearance as his country posted a huge score of 5-305, aided by terrific contributions from George Bailey (89 off 79 balls) and David Hussey (60 not out off 34). Despite losing two early wickets, Sri Lanka were in the game at 2-111 after 25 overs with Tillakaratne Dilshan (51) and Dinesh Chandimal (73) looking comfortable at the crease. But a period of madness that saw Australia complete three run-outs - two of which were direct hits - in less than five overs effectively ended the contest as Dilshan, Angelo Mathews (12) and Lahiru Thirimanne (zero) were sent packing. And pacemen Clint McKay (4-33 off eight overs) and Mitchell Johnson (2-43 off nine) mopped up the tail as Sri Lanka were eventually dismissed for 198 in fro ...

watching Sri-Lanka and seeing Tillakaratne Dilshan go out and Dinesh Chandimal come in :D
Kumar Sangakkara could be out for up to two months. Dinesh Chandimal is the only reserve batsman on tour, and is almost certain to be included in the XI for the Sydney Test that begins on January 3. He has also kept wickets for Sri Lanka in Tests, and will take the gloves if Jayawardene is unfit to play. Lahiru Thirimanne is on stand-by for the tour, and may also be flown in as cover. Among the fast bowling reserves, Nuwan Pradeep may earn a start in Sydney, if three seam bowlers are required and Kulasekara cannot play, while Thisara Perera may also be brought into the squad.
Poll- Who deserves the chance for playing at Boxing Day Test? 1.Prasanna Jayawardene 2.Dinesh Chandimal

Sri Lanka v Pakistan, 3rd Test, Pallekele, 5th day Sri Lanka placid track on the fifth day provided Sri Lanka an ideal chance of pushing for victory by chasing down 270 in the allotted 71 overs, a result that looked a strong possibility after an aggressive start led by Dinesh Chandimal. But his dismissal at the stroke of tea slowed down the innings considerably and, despite a fluent Kumar Sangakkara at one end, Sri Lanka's focus turned to securing their 1-0 lead. The change in approach squeezed the excitement out of the chase, but succeeded in ensuring Pakistan lost a Test series for the first time since that ill-fated tour of England in 2010. It was also Sri Lanka's first Test series win in nine attempts since August 2009, and the first after the retirement of Muttiah Muralitharan. Misbah-ul-Haq declared immediately after Asad Shafiq reached his second Test century prior to the lunch break. Shafiq added an unbeaten 81 with Adnan Akmal, who batted bravely with a broken finger to keep Sri Lanka at bay for ...
