One person that I wish I had met would have been Dr. Grant Jeffrey. He was a well-known bible prophecy expert who wrote multiple books, including one of my favorite books "The Signature of God". Dietrich Bonhoeffer and Cheap Grace Bonhoeffer was born in Breslau (German) on February 4th, 1906, the son of a university professor and leading authority on psychiatry and neurology, but from the age of 12 lived in Berlin. At the age of seventeen he entered Tubingen University and a year later attended courses at Berlin University, and sat at the feet of Adolf von Harnack, and other biblical scholars. He also attended and became an outstanding student at Union Theological Seminary in New York. He because a lecturer in Systematic Theology in Berlin University. Update on Saeed: Saeed's family got to visit him at Evin Prison today since he has now been released from solitary confinement. He said he felt many praying and the time in solitary was a time of intimacy with God. He said when he came out the other prisoners said he was glowing! He was filled with more joy and peace after solitary than going in!!! All of the prisoners were shocked at the change! This is because of your prayers! Thank you! HARDENED HEARTS   I work with about 20 precious children of God (who attend various churches throughout Hampton Roads) in a ministry called “A Church Without Walls.” Each week I join these Spirit filled servants of Christ and head to the streets of downtown Norfolk to serve the homeless (we work in the inner city on various occasions as well). We bring the homeless food and clothing, but most importantly we build relationship with them and bring them the Word of God, both corporately and personally. A number of churches have seen what we are doing and have offered their considerable support to help serve these people that God so dearly loves. From our Magnificent Munich Winterim... We had a very moving trip to Dachau. After touring the camp, we had a worship service in the Protestant Chapel (only one where we could gather inside). We asked God's blessing on rocks we brought from HH and left there as memorials to the dead. We read Chapter 13 of First Corinthians in German and English and Mr. Adams preached about the life and death of Dietrich Bonhoeffer. We prayed for our own ability to practice what Dietrich Bonhoeffer called "hard grace," and to be ready to take action against oppression when we encounter it. Then on to the Nymphenburg Palace - quite a contrast - the summer home of the Wittenberg family. 200 acres of gardens and a huge Baroque Castle. ... where faith matters.

"Cheap grace" is a complete misnomer. While I greatly respect Dietrich Bonhoeffer's life and stand for Christ, I flinch at his words: "Cheap grace is the preaching of forgiveness without requiring repentance, baptism without church discipline. Communion without confession. Cheap grace is grace without discipleship, grace without the cross, grace without Jesus Christ." The reality is that a biblical understanding of forgiveness *gives birth" to repentance. Baptism (identifying with His death, burial & resurrection) *inspires* discipline. Communion with Christ *calls forth* heartfelt confession. True grace *stimulates a hunger* for discipleship. Without the cross and without Jesus Christ, grace would not be "cheap" grace.      World War II has always been an era that has inspired me and fired up my imagination. Probably I was first aware of this amazing time in history from the old sitcom Hogan’s Heroes.   Certainly, the situations in the sitcom were, at best, very hard to believe. Just the tunnel system alone would be something way beyond the capabilities of men in POW camp conditions, much less the forays into enemy territory the characters participated in. For a teenager with an already vivid imagination suspending disbelief was relatively easy.   So I started studying about the European side of World War II. I studied the Holocaust aspect of it; I read The Diary of Anne Frank, and several other books. I started a file of information about the subject, learned about the Gestapo, the allied invasion,and many other bits of information that I cannot recall now. We don't "check the box" with a prayer once prayed or some water once applied. Dietrich Bonhoeffer said that when Jesus calls us he bids us to "Come and Die." We commit our all to Christ. As such the wise response to the gospel's invitation is to not only come but to come committed bringing our all, lamps AND oil and whatever else HE may require. This is NOT to earn the invitation we have already received but to thank Him and properly and fully respond to it.
