Patrick on 'Meet the Press' challenges GOP on sequestration by Laurel J. Sweet, Feb 24, 2013 (Boston Herald - McClatchy-Tribune Information Services via COMTEX) Gov. Deval Patrick challenged Republican leadership today to stop pushing President Obama over this week's threatened $1 billion in federal sequestration budget cuts and "put it to a vote." "We've actually seen some $2.5 trillion in budget cuts from this president and the only plan on the table right now to avoid sequester is the president's plan," Patrick, in Washington, D.C., for the National Governors Association meeting, told NBC's "Meet the Press" host David Gregory this morning. "The president's plan has cuts -- in some cases, deeper cuts than sequestratian provides," Patrick continued. "But what we've seen is more of the same. The congressional Republican leadership moves the goalposts as soon as the president comes their way. There's an awful lot of things they say they support. Put it to a vote, because with Democrats and moderate Republi ...

"Kerry Nomination Will Trigger Massachusetts Senate Special" Nat Journ Dec 21 "Another Massachusetts Senate special election is on: President Obama will officially nominate Democratic Sen. John Kerry, D-Mass., to be secretary of state this afternoon, the Boston Globe reports. The 2004 presidential nominee is expected to sail through the Senate confirmation process. Once he is confirmed and steps down from his Senate seat, Gov. Deval Patrick must schedule a special election 145 to 160 days after the vacancy. Assuming Kerry is confirmed in January, that would mean a June election. Patrick will also nominate someone to hold the seat in the interim. The winner of the special election will hold the seat for the remainder of Kerry's term, which is up in 2014. Sen. Scott Brown, R-Mass., who lost his November reelection bid, is widely expected to jump into the race. He would be an instant favorite -- though he just lost a campaign by 8 points, he remains popular in the state. . . "
Nov 13, 2012 12:31 AM EST The Washington Post “President Obama is considering asking Sen. John F. Kerry (D-Mass.) to serve as his next defense secretary, part of an extensive rearrangement of his national security team that will include a permanent replacement for former CIA director David H. Petraeus. Although Kerry is thought to covet the job of secretary of state, senior administration officials familiar with the transition planning said that nomination will almost certainly go to Susan E. Rice, the U.S. ambassador to the United Nations.” In my personal opinion, this would prove to be a terrible move for President Obama to appoint Senator Kerry! Why? In November 16, 2012 Wall Street Journal, Sen. John Kerry, Democrat Massachusetts was mentioned as a possible contender. If Sen. Kerry is elevated to Secretary of State or even to Secretary of Defense guess what? Massachusetts state law requires the appointment of an interim senator by Gov. Deval Patrick and force a special U.S. Senate election. If Sen ...
President Obama having dinner tonight with the man who succeeded Mitt Romney as Massachusetts governor -- Deval Patrick
Governor Deval Patrick has been a big supporter of both Elizabeth Warren's campaign & President Obama's
Now that Deval Patrick is pretty assured to have a position in President Obama's cabinet I guess Mitt Romney can have his old job back.
It would get interesting if President Obama did get re-elected. President Obama would probably make Massachusetts U.S. Senator John Forbes Kerry the New Secretary of State, if Hillary turns the job down. Mass. Governor Deval Patrick would have to appoint an U.S. Senator for Mass. Until an election was held 180 days after Senator Kerry took the Secretary of State job. With no African-Americans in the U.S. Senator. A Massachusetts U.S. Senator race in the winter would be fun.to watch!
Governor Deval Patrick said today that voters in the presidential race should take note of polls showing Republican nominee Mitt Romney trailing far behind President Obama in Massachusetts, the state where he both lives and once served as governor, because it should tell them something. “He’s a resi...
The Republicans have hammered President Obama on his promise of lower unemployment, and even though the numbers are going in the right direction, they are correct. So I thought also we should see the other side. Jobs: Under Romney's watch, Massachusetts plummeted from 36th to 47th out of 50 in job creation. Manufacturing jobs fell at twice the national rate—which was the third-worst record in the country. When Romney came into office, the Bay State's unemployment rate was lower than the national average—but higher than the national average when he left. Debt and deficit: Romney left behind a $1 billion deficit, making use of what his successor, Gov. Deval Patrick, called "all kinds of patches and plugs" to hide the extent of the shortfall. Massachusetts' long-term debt went up by more than $2.6 billion under Romney—a 16 percent increase in just four years. On top of that, Massachusetts had the highest per capita debt in the country. Taxes: In just his first year in office, Romney raised fees more th ...

Deval Patrick - new to me and awe-inspiring. John Lewis - humbling and sobering truthes. Bill Clinton - amazing, convincing, brilliant, charming, cutting-to-the-truth, humorous yet tactful, enthusiastic and genuinely supportive of President Obama this time! :)
After the speeches given by Deval Patrick (Gov of MA), Bill Clinton and President Obama (particularly contrasted with the speeches given at the RNC), I don't understand how ANYONE who believes in an America where one's class, race, immigration status, gender or choice of partner does not deny access to equal rights and an equal shot at economic prosperity could possibly vote for these Republicans. Once upon a time, Republicans stood for independence and a lack of government involvement, and even though I didn't generally agree with that perspective, I respected it. But now, their whole platform rests on supporting the rich, abandoning the poor, preventing non-whites from voting, and making morally-based laws to regulate lives that are not even their own (i.e. for women, new immigrants, and people with same-sex life partners). I truly welcome anyone to offer a cogent, informed rebuttal.
I loved The First Lady Michelle Obama"s speach. I also took notice of Deval Patrick telling it like it is, he did not shy away from the republican lies and their machine of hatred. This man showed what the Democrats should have been doing all of the time. Governor Patrick has the President Obama's back, He said " I will not let President Obama be bullied out of office". Get out and vote people.
Governor Deval Patrick, speaking Tuesday night at the Democratic National Convention, assailed his predecessor’s economic record, pointing to anemic job growth and deep budget cuts that affected education, transportation, and other programs that support the state’s economy. Romney’s campaign responded that the former governor turned a wide budget deficit into a surplus, held the line on taxes, and left office with fewer unemployed in Massachusetts than today. See an analysis of Romney’s record, which is strikingly similar to hurdles faced by President Obama. This guy was incredible. When he was done, Mitt Romney needed a lot of band aids. His record was looking REALLY BAD

I have a 5 a.m. run in the morning, but I'm so full from all I heard tonight beginning with Corey Booker, Deval Patrick and then culminating with the FLOTUS that I can't go to sleep. I'm a DEMOCRAT and proud to be a support of President Obama.
In 2004, Becky and I were on vacation in Cape May, NJ, and we watched Barack Obama deliver the keynote speech at the Democratic Convention. We were so moved, that we both said that he needed to run for President someday. Tonight, I can't decide if I want Deval Patrick or Julian Castro to succeed President Obama in 2016. I'm leaning toward Castro, simply because there is a significant number of people who couldn't handle it if a man with the last name Castro succeeded a man whose middle name is Hussein.
Joe Kennedy 3rd speaks between 7 and 8 tonight at the DNC, (he'll replace Barney Frank when he beats Sean Bielat), Bielat is the better candidate but that district doesn't care. Deval Patrick speaks sometime shortly before 10, and Michelle Obama headlines. Supposedly, Michelle Obama will be spreading a positive message about President Obama's character instead of just bashing Romney.
