The Uncovered Truth about Mamata Banerjee and Ranjit Kumar Pachnanda Written by IANS on 17 Feb, 2013 at 06:11 PM IST | Categorized As Nation | With 0 Comments Over 14 years ago, Mamata Banerjee made an extraordinary allegation about a young Kolkata police officer. Then in opposition, Banerjee alleged that Deputy Commissioner of the South Division Ranjit Kumar Pachnanda had bitten (yes, bitten) her. The then stormy petrel of opposition politics in the state also alleged that the police officer had torn her saree and blouse, dragging her as she led a sit-in protest. Pachnanda, who had since risen to be Kolkata’s Police Commissioner, was Thursday removed from his post. The divesting of the hot seat occurred after a policeman was shot dead by a youth in broad daylight in the Garden Reach area, as clashes occurred between rival student groups in the stormy build-up to student union polls. Public memory is short, and perhaps not many will recall that on Oct 25, 1998, about a week after Diwali, Pachnanda had l ...

President Obama knows that agribusiness cannot be trusted with the regulatory powers of government. On the campaign trail in 2007, he promised: We'll tell ConAgra that it's not the Department of Agribusiness. It's the Department of Agriculture. We're going to put the people's interests ahead of the special interests. But, starting with his choice for USDA Secretary, the pro-biotech former governor of Iowa, Tom Vilsack, President Obama has let Monsanto, Dupont and the other pesticide and genetic engineering companies know they'll have plenty of friends and supporters within his administration. President Obama has taken his team of food and farming leaders directly from the biotech companies and their lobbying, research, and philanthropic arms: Michael Taylor former Monsanto Vice President, is now the FDA Deputy Commissioner for Foods. A policy advocacy initiative, the origins of the National Youth Day in Cameroon can be traced to the special days celebrated by youth organizations in the Southern Cameroons such as 22 February, the “Thinking Day”, celebrated by the Girl Guides and Brownies in commemoration of Lady Banden Powell. There was also the Commonwealth Youth Sunday marked by the reading of a Message from the Queen, Church services and a March-Past by youth groups such as the Boys Scouts, Girl Guides, Boy’s Brigades, Red Cross and other youth organizations. It was presided by His Honour the Commissioner of Southern Cameroons, or his Deputy Commissioner who took the salute and read the speech to the parades. The “Thinking Day” and the “Commonwealth Youth Sundays” were however limited to members of youth movements, most of who were in Victoria and Kumba Divisions. It did not have a very important territorial impact like the “National Days” which were celebrated throughout the territory. In colonial Southern Cameroo ...

The term of the present state assembly runs till June 3 this year. The Election Commission has informally discussed the poll schedule for Karnataka, which has been plagued by uncertainty following the exit of Bharatiya Janata Party strongman B Yeddyurappa and the resignation of his followers from the assembly, putting Chief Minister Jagdish Shettigar in an untenable situation. DATELINE: FEBRUARY 1, 2513 - Bones dug up in Spanish Harlem were identified as the remains of Queen Crissy 1, who was the last candidate for Mayor of NYC to run as a member of the Perfumado Party. The 500 year old gravesite, discovered under a clown factory, had been the site of a piched battle for control of Spanish Harlem (aka as the Gateway to New York) between Los Perfumados and Los Plantados. The life of Queen Crissy 1 had been dramatized in the novel by the famous 20th century author, Eugenio Del Barrio, who wrote of the crusade of Crissy 1 to redraw 'the lines' and thus eliminate Los Plantados from Spanish Harlem. Her battle cry of "Change the Lines, Change the Lines, a Deputy Commissioner's post for a Line Change" almost changed the course of history. To this day, the legend exists that the signature crimson locks adorning the head of Queen Crissy 1, were restyled using a rusty machete.

Thailand: Political tensions about government plans to cut key courts, agencies via new charter BANGKOK: (THE NATION) -- Radical proposals by a House working committee - to dissolve top courts and key government agencies - showed the "true colours" of the ruling Pheu Thai Party and its push to write a new constitution, the opposition Democrat Party said yesterday. Democrat politicians pointed to the proposals made by the panel studying constitutional changes that call for the dissolution of independent organisations, the demotion of the Constitution Court, and removal of a clause that supports acts made under the post-coup Interim Constitution. I appreciate the statement of Mr. Ashish Sinhmar new Deputy Commissioner of Hamirpur (HP) with regards to e-governance. E-governance is a tool that helps people to solve their problems sitting at home only through internet. E-Samadhaan is a noble idea of Government of Himachal Pradesh, one need not to go to miles at district head quarters and tehsil head quarters to get their problems solved. I wish that Government of Himachal Pradesh must work aggressively to bring all system of public dealing under E-Governance like issuance of revenue papers, road transport papers, licenses, fee deposit and many more such things for one rushing to government offices, waste precious time and money.

NHL deputy commissioner Daly to explain stance of players and owners on 2012 lockout.
(FM97 Sports / AP) — The NHL and the players' association took another major step toward the cancellation of the entire season. Federal mediators were brought back into the negotiations and even they couldn't get the two sides to sit together. The owners and the union met separately with mediators, but the discussions didn't immediately appear to have moved the sides any closer to a deal. Mediators informed the union that the league's proposal that was pulled off the table last week was still available, but carried a take-it-or-leave it ultimatum. Free-agent center Brendan Morrison said that wasn't much of a decision, while NHL deputy commissioner Bill Daly said there was nothing new to report.

Press Statement: No Deputy for Durham’s Police and Crime Commissioner Durham’s new Police and Crime Commissioner Ron Hogg has vowed not to take on a Deputy PCC in his first term of public office. Ron has confirmed that he will not be following the lead of many of his counterparts: “Unlike many other PCCs, I am fortunate in that I have over 30 years experience as a former police officer and know how the system operates. As far as I see it, the people of County Durham and Darlington elected me to represent their needs and having a Deputy PCC was never part of the deal.” PCC salaries have been determined nationally. However, it is up to each PCC to decide how much they pay their Deputy PCC. This has naturally sparked criticism from Police Think Tanks who believe that the substantial salaries emerging for Deputy PCCs would be better used on front-line policing.
