JT'S SPORTS NEWS NASCAR - Dale Earnhardt Jr took advantage of a late-race mistake by Brad Keselowski to win Sunday's Pocono 400 Sprint Cup race. It was Earnhardt's second win of the season, guaranteeing that he will be in the Chase For The Championship. Keselowski finished second, followed by Kurt Busch, Denny Hamlin, and rookie Kyle Larson rounding out the top five. The NBA Finals are tied at 1 game each after the Miami Heat defeated the San Antonio Spurs last night 98 to 96. The series will shift back to Miami for Game 3 on Tuesday night. BASEBALL - The Braves dropped 2 out of 3 to the Arizona Diamondbacks over the weekend. Atlanta lost Sunday's series finale 6 to 5. The Braves are currently in a 3 way tie for the division lead, with Washington and Miami. TENNIS - Spain's Rafael Nadal and Russia's Maria Sharapova took the men's and women's singles titles, respectively, this weekend at the French Open, tennis's second major tournament of the season.
Ken Brown recaps the Pocono 400 as we hear from winner Dale Earnhardt, Jr., Brad Keselowski, and Denny Hamlin
Dale Earnhardt Jr wins at Pocono. He takes advantage of leader Brad Keselowski's problem of trash on the grill with 5 laps to go. Keselowski let Jr pass for the lead to try to get the trash to blow off but couldn't get close enough for it to happen. Keselowski did hold on for 2nd. Kurt Busch is 3rd. Pole sitter Denny Hamlin takes 4th and rookie Kyle Larson rounds out the top 5. It's Earnhard Jr's 2nd win of the season, locking him into the chase. Hendrick Motorsports won the last 4 races. Jeff Gordon won at Kansas and Jimmie Johnson won Charlotte and Dover prior to today. (Vince Bonfigli)
Denny Hamlin will lead them to green for 160 laps, 400 miles at Pocono Raceway! -BP-
Here are my picks for the race at Pocono YAHOO! FANTASY AUTO RACING GROUP A: Jimmie Johnson GROUP B: Tony Stewart, Ryan Newman GROUP C: Austin Dillon BENCH: Jeff Gordon, Brad Keselowski, Joey Logano, Kyle Larson * This team is more about saving starts then picking the best team. I think Keselowski and Larson will finish ahead of Newman and Dillon, but not by much. I think it is worth the gamble this week with Newman and Dillon. FANTASY LIVE (nascar.com) TEAM 1: Jimmie Johnson, Kevin Harvick, Matt Kenseth, Michael Annett, Reed Sorenson TEAM 2: Brad Keselowski, Denny Hamlin, Tony Stewart, Kurt Busch, Timmy Hill PIT CREW: Denny Hamlin MANUFACTURER: Chevy * I like team 1 more. ** It looks like Kenseth found some speed late in practice. Johnson and Kenseth will come from the middle of the pack to the front while Harvick had the best car in both practices. Annett and Sorenson should be OK for the money. *** The other team is all about balance. It is a risk, but if it pays off…you could really score high. FOX ...
Here's my Yahoo Fantasy Auto Racing for the Pocono 400: A) Jimmie Johnson, Dale Earnhardt Jr. B) Tony Stewart, Ryan Newman, Denny Hamlin, Greg Biffle. C) Kyle Larson, Austin Dillon. NOTE: No doubt the Penske will have fast cars, again. But, I need to give them a break and this is the track I feel I can do that. Will post my final picks for Yahoo, Fantasy Live, and Fox, after final practice!
Next up is the Pocono 400. So far it looks like we will have very good weather for the weekend events. No Nationwide race here to give us some good insights, as well as have a mixed bag of tricks of drivers who do well here. This track is perhaps the most difficult one we go to, mainly because it has 3 distinct turns, and you can't adjust cars to get through all 3 handling well. Lots of homework to do for this race and so far these are the drivers I'm looking at for Yahoo: A) Jimmie Johnson, Jeff Gordon, Dale Earnhardt Jr. B) Brad Keselowski, Joey Logano, Tony Stewart, Denny Hamlin. Ryan Newman. C) Kyle Larson, Austin Dillon. I'll narrow it down later today and let you know who I'm going with!

Friday, May 30th News: Jeff Burton, easing off the throttle of his NASCAR driving career as he prepares to move into the broadcast booth for NBC Sports, found himself back inside a race car this week, testing for Michael Waltrip Racing at Pocono Raceway on Tuesday. He won't be competing at the 2.5-mile track when the Sprint Cup Series hits to the uniquely shaped three-turn layout next month, but will make his second appearance of the season at Michigan the following week. When he's not been in the car, either competing or taking part in tests for MWR, Burton, a 21-time winner in Cup, has been getting acclimated to life on the other side of the camera. His only 2014 start so far this season came at Las Vegas, where he qualified 19th and finished 17th in the MWR Toyota. Other starts beyond the Michigan race are likely, although no schedule has been announced.(NASCAR.com) Special Autism Speaks scheme for Hamlin: Denny Hamlin, driver of the FedEx Toyota, will run a special Autism Speaks puzzle piece paint sch ...

PHOTO FINISH! The Coke Zero 400 is over. Brenden Nichols EDGES out Marcos Ambrose and Trevor Bayne by mere inches at the finish for the win. After the race, Brenden was astonished as he was announced the winner in the race. "It was an intense ride that last lap," Brenden says. "The win last week really helped motivate me for this race here tonight. It was time to step up on the Super Speedways and show them what our car had and that it could compete for the win. This win really gives our team some momentum moving forward." This is Brenden's 6th win on the season and is now 2nd in points behind Denny Hamlin by 58 points. Tune in next week as the No. 12 team heads to Chicagoland Speedway for the running of the Tropicana 400.

RIR/Nascar Part 2: We are in line to get a wristband to go to an autograph session for Danica Patrick, Kurt Busch, Kyle Busch, and Denny Hamlin. Jacob says; "I don't want to stand in this line. I don't like any of them except Danica, a little. I mean, if it were REAL drivers like Carl Edwards or Jeff Gordon, Jimmy Johnson, or even Dale Jr., I would".
Yesterday's race was terrific. First we saw Matt Kenseth and Danica Patrick up close. Then, in the pits we met Robert Griffin III and saw Richard Petty, Richard Childress, Carl Edwards and Denny Hamlin walk past us. The finish of the race itself want bad either!

Had a GREAT DAY yesterday! It all started Thursday when Denny Hamlin's Mom called the house and needed to talk to me. Of course I was at work, so Kim called me and said Mary Lou wants you to call her. So I did. She said she has 2 tickets to the race and 2 FedEx hospitality passes and wanted to know if I would be interested, and boy was I. Got to meet (again) of course Denny and talk to him, and got to meet Joe Gibbs (again). We also had pictures done with both, but I guess the most special one was with Coach Gibbs. He brought his 1991 Super Bowl ring and I got to hold it during the picture. What was special I wore my State ring and had them almost side by side in the photo. Most of all, had a blast with my wife Kim. We had the best time I think we've ever had together at a race. It didn't stop there either. This morning at the motel, when she went to answer the wake up call, she fell out of bed. I didn't laugh at first but when I seen she was ok, I let it rip. Lol.
Im the happiest mom in the world...had a great weekend at the race with my family...my kids got to meet Kurt Busch Kyle Busch Denny Hamlin and Danica Patrick...they had an experience of a lifetime...got to spend a great weekend with my husband and his awesome family my wonderful kids and our good friend Joe. Denny Hamlin has had more than his fair share of success at Richmond in the past. But lately, he has struggled a lot. So Saturday's Toyota Owners 400 may be just the race that gets him back and going in the right direction.

Time for this weeks installment of J_M_Racing fantasy picks for Richmond, VA. Winners- Clint Bowyer is very good at Richmond with 20 percent of his starts there are wins. Also he just got married and is on his honeymoon! Look for him to impress his new Bride! Jeff Gordon will be very good. Dark Horses- Ryan Newman has a very fast car this week. Look for Denny Hamlin to have a strong run. Stay away from red hot Brian Vickers, his average finish here is in the 20's. Zachary picked Kyle Larson Racing!
My article from this weeks Sports Journal of Central Indiana. I'll be honest. I was disappointed that there wasn't any NASCAR this weekend since it's been such a great start, but this past weekend was about being with families. Now the NASCAR family comes back together at Richmond for a little Saturday Night Short Track Action. Darlington was a fun race with Kevin Harvick dominating and being the first pole winner at Darlington since 1997 (Dale Jarrett) Harvick believe it or not restarted 5th after a green white checkered attempt but after a wreck and another restart passed Dale Jr. for the win. He led 238 laps in the race. Harvick won last years Richmond race in similar fashion restarting 7th and taking the lead to win on a green white checkered finish. Prior to that, Kyle Busch had won the last 4 spring races at Richmond. This should be a great race at the 3/4 mile oval with fast speeds. Other contenders for this race, Jimmie Johnson, Denny Hamlin, and Jeff Gordon who was my pick at Darlington an ...

Jeff's Notes and Thoughts - 1-Jamie McMurray : 8% of Yahoo rostered him. Honestly I wasn't too impressed. He starts 7th. Won't stay there though. He lacks long run speed. Keselowski: He starts 2nd. He looks top 10. But not sure if he can get a top 5. Dillon starts 27th. Will be benched by most with Larson on the pole. He have top 15 capability. Top 10 unlikely. Harvick - Stupid Freaky Fast. Kahne: He fast, but he isn't "Mr.Inconsistency" for nothing. I have him 14th at the line with a top 5 car speed wise Ambrose : I love the 9 as a nice option. He will hang around 12th most of night. Don't be surprised to see the 9 team gamble on a late yellow. Hamlin: Denny just *** No other way to put it. Stewart: Stewart look top 15. He should be good on the long run. Bowyer: He could easily end in VL. He will start 3rd. Busch: Busch looks top 5. Not sure about winning car though. Kenseth: could surprise ppl with a top 5,but more likely a top 10. Logano-Joey is the man to beat. He been fast all weekend. Gordon: Gor ...

Butterbean Queen Raced in the Denny Hamlin Race Thursday. He finished 11 and he is only 16.
Nothing like Saturday night short track racing. Here's what to watch for at Richmond: The winless: Jimmie Johnson, Tony Stewart, Denny Hamlin, Clint Bowyer, and Jeff Gordon all have multiple wins at Richmond and are looking for their first win of 2014 and a spot in the Chase. Oh, and some kid named Kyle Larson is starting on the pole. Good chance we could see our 8th different winner tonight. Kurt Busch: Granted Kurt hasn't won here since he left Roush, but he's always good at short tracks. He had a pair of top 10's last year, including a runner up finish last summer, and he's in a fast SHR car. He starts 21st, but look for him to climb to the top real quick. Carl Edwards: Carl has 7 top 10's in his last 8 races here and picked up his first Richmond win last August. Look for him to try to make it back to back. He starts 16th. Kevin Harvick: Harv is the only multiple winner this year. He's has the momentum coming off the Darlington win. He's won at Richmond 3 times. He snapped Chase Elliott's win streak in ...

Yesterday was an unbelievable day! After NASCAR K&N Pro Series East practice in the Turner Scott Motorsports No. 31 OzLINK Chevy at Richmond International Raceway, we jumped in the rental car for a 2 hour dash to South Boston Speedway (and yes, we did meet some local law enforcement along the way, but luckily they were huge race fans!) Making it to the Denny Hamlin Short Track Showdown with just minutes to spare, I was ready to go for the 200 lap charity race! Taking the green flag was as exciting for me as it was for the fans because I hadn't turned a single lap in the car since the team worked through the night making major changes including an engine swap. The changes were all good, and by lap 150, I had worked my way up to 7th, passing Denny Hamlin, David Ragan, Matt Kenseth and Kyle Busch along the way. It was crazy racing side-by-side with those guys! After a stop for 2 fresh tires and a small adjustment, the car was even better! As I was passing for 4th place, the No. 61 and No. 99 made contact, .. ...

DAVE GRAYSON'S RACING NOTEBOOK. Darlington Nationwide Series press releases from NASCAR Integrated Marketing. Joe Gibbs Racing’s Sweet Spot: Darlington Raceway There is no denying when one driver or organization has a track figured out. When there is that level of comfort and understanding, the driver or team can always be found leading the field at the end of every race. No team is more at home at Darlington Raceway than Joe Gibbs Racing. Seven of the past eight races there have been won by JGR drivers: Denny Hamlin (three), Kyle Busch (two), Tony Stewart (one) and Joey Logano (one). Current JGR driver Matt Kenseth won the eighth race while driving for Roush Fenway Racing. He also won the Darlington race immediately preceding JGR’s seven-out-of-eight stretch. Stewart and Logano have since moved on from JGR and Hamlin will not be suiting up for Friday night’s event. Busch and Kenseth will be joined by the team’s only full-time Nationwide driver this season Elliott Sadler, who in 29 national series ...
NASCAR Sprint Cup Series goes to the Paperclip, Martinsville Speedway this weekend! Sorry for the late update but as some of you know I was travelling this weekend. So without further delay here is our lineup for this weekend's Fantasy team: Jimmie Johnson - $27.75 Jeff Gordon - $27.50 Denny Hamlin - $23.75 These three drivers have combined for 12 wins in the last 15 races. To fill out the roster we're going with: Alex Bowman Racing - $10.25 Michael Annett - $8.50 Sidekick
It is really cold here in Martinsville and at one point this morning it was really snowing pretty good. The biggest worry the crew chiefs have today is whether or not the track will rubber in. Given the temperatures it might not and that could increase tire wear. Usually it's pretty high during the first run, but with more rubber on the track heavy tire wear usually goes away. That might not be the case today. On the plus side that means that track won't change much, if at all. Among the favorites after talking to the crew chiefs Kyle Bush, Kevin Harvick, Jimmie Johnson, Jeff Gordon, Denny Hamlin, Matt Kenseth, and Brad Keselowski. I also like Joey Logano for at least a top-10 and Paul Menard, who impressed people with his long race run in practice Friday. Talked with Joey Logano's crew chief Todd Gordon. He said they tested at Rockingham Speedway's "Little Rock" Tuesday and found some stuff to help their run off or forward bite coming out of the corners. Gordon said this is the best car he's ever ha ...

Here’s a look at the starting order for a race at NASCAR’s oldest active track. 1. Kyle Busch, Joe Gibbs Racing No. 18 Toyota — Kind of surprising that Busch had never won a pole at Martinsville. Could his first Cup win at the track be in the cards as well? 2. Denny Hamlin, Joe Gibbs Racing No. 11 Toyota — Has four wins in 16 Cup starts at the track, but it’s been five races since he rattled off three-in-a-row at the track. Never, though, has he come to Martinsville on as much of a mission as he does after missing California because of a piece of metal in his eye. 3. Joey Logano, Team Penske No. 22 Ford — Set the track record in the opening round of qualifying but could only muster third in the final round. Will be interesting to see what happens if his not-best-friend Hamlin wants to cut in front of him to get to the bottom line once the green flag waves. 4. Jimmie Johnson, Hendrick Motorsports No. 48 Chevrolet — Eight career wins at Martinsville including two of the last three, Johnson has ...

Last night all the drivers that's inlined with the Movement it was definitely a tough night. Personally I think it was one of the Best Daytona 500 ever. Our top drivers Edwards finished 17th, Greg Biffle finished 8th and Denny Hamlin finished 2nd. Right now Kurt Busch & Greg Biffle are on Nascar RaceHub.
USA Today Sports: Daytona 500 runner-up Denny Hamlin 'had to wing it'
The Daytona 500 may have ended 10 hours after it started, but it was the best Daytona 500 since 2007. The drivers could pass and go 3 wide. Dale Jr. was meant to win that race. He had the best car and truly was the best driver when it came to holding the lead. Unfortunately, Austin Dillon and Kevin Harvick didn't know what they were doing and took out a lot of good cars. 3 Big Wrecks is great and what should happen at Daytona. Jeff Gordon also got screwed out of third place. He was clearly ahead of Brad Keselowski at the moment of caution and at the line. One Last Thing, Denny Hamlin did something truly amazing in the 500. He ran the last 150 Laps with no radio communication. He Had no Crew Chief or spotter to listen to. He still didn't cause a wreck or any problems on the track. Simlpy Amazing. Congratulations Dale Earnhardt Jr.

Dale Earnhardt Jr. win his second career Daytona 500. Denny Hamlin was 2nd, Brad Keselowski was 3rd, my boy Jeff Gordon was 4th, & Jimmy Johnson was 5th.

Denny Hamlin goes for three in a row with today’s running of the Daytona 500. Hamlin won the first race of the week at last Saturday’s Sprint Unlimited. He followed that win with a first place finish in his qualifying race on Thursday night during the Budweiser Duel Race. Twelve drivers have been in Hamlin’s position in the past, but no one has won three events during Speedweek. Rookie Austin Dillon will start in the pole position for today’s Daytona 500.

Joe Gibbs Racing has the Matt Kenseth and the Denny Hamlin in the 3rd and 4th spots to start the race.
Congrats to Matt Kenseth and Denny Hamlin and teams on their duel wins. Harvick will start 38th on Sunday. Keep in mind that multiple drivers will be in backup cars and have engine changes, so they will have to start from the back. I'm not 100% sure how that's going to make things shake out, but it'll be interesting to say the least...
They're tin tops Jim, but not as we know them. NASCAR's season opener and biggest event of the year, the Daytona 500, runs on Sunday. Toyota has four teams of cars enetred. Denny Hamlin, Matt Kenseth and M&M sponsored Kyle Busch cars of Joe Gibbs Racing should be at the front or thereabouts based on testing and warm up races held thsi week. Gentlemen, start your engines!
Kyle Busch is the only driver that has a chance to win all 3 races at Daytona this weekend! He has started well as he already won the truck race but I think his teammate Denny Hamlin may give him a run for his money in the 500 as he has one the Sprint Unlimited and the Budweiser Duel already!
Denny Hamlin is close to making history. Joe Gibbs Racing has already made it. Why is second a catchy number?
Matt Kenseth and Denny Hamlin each claimed a Budweiser Duel victory Thursday at Daytona International Speedway, earning top positions for the Daytona 500.

Joe Gibbs Racing Sweeps Duels DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. -- Denny Hamlin is still undefeated in 2014, winning the second Daytona 500 qualifying race Thursday night as he coolly pulled away from the field as chaos erupted behind him. Now he will attempt to become the first driver in history to sweep Speedweeks when he tries to win Sunday's season-opening Daytona 500. Hamlin also won last Saturday night's exhibition Sprint Unlimited.
Anybody see those Joe Gibbs cars win both races tonight!?! (Distracting myself and you from basketball trash talk). Denny Hamlin is 2 for 2 at Daytona in 2014. Does he go 3 for 3 in the 500?
Joe Gibbs Racing is undefeated in Sprint Cup Series races at Daytona International Speedway this Speedweeks. Matt Kenseth, who drives the No. 20 Toyota, won the first Budweiser Duel, while teammate Denny Hamlin captured the crash-ending second qualifying race in the No. 11 Toyota before an estimated 50,000 spectators Thursday night.
Jimmy Johnson can't finish a race at Daytona for the life of him. Congrats to my driver Denny Hamlin winning Bud shootout
Matt Kenseth and Denny Hamlin continue to show Joe Gibbs Racing's strength by winning their respective Budweiser Duels. Multi-car crash at the end of Duel confuses the finishing order. Stand by for the Daytona 500 starting lineup.
Denny Hamlin wins duel Joe Gibbs Racing(Kenseth and Hamlin) will start 3rd and 4th in this Sundays Daytona 500! WHAT A FINISH!! A car flipped completely over, Clint Bowyer was driving that one! Jimmie Johnson's car on fire, Michael Waltrip hit the wall *** the inside! Holy crap! Turn to fox sports and catch the replay! Wow! Rest of the lineup will be posted on raceday
Watching the preliminaries to the Daytona NASCAR Twin Duels tonight. Noticed that Michael Waltrip in the broadcast booth only spoke of Kyle Busch, Parker Kliggerman, Matt Kenseth, Brian Vickers, Clint Bowyer, Denny Hamlin. Little lop-sided, don't you think? There are more than just Toyota drivers entered tonight.
Our long national nightmare is over: The NASCAR off-season has ended and it’s finally time to get back to racing. Denny Hamlin kicked things off Saturday night with a victory in the Sprint Unlimited under the lights at Daytona International Speedway, and the next day Austin Dillon won the pole for the Daytona 500. Game on!
**sigh** watching the Sprint Unlimited it's really starting to hit me that MARK MARTIN had finally retired from competitive racing. Let's go Denny Hamlin!

The richest person in or around NASCAR? It isn't even close, in the Forbes 400 Richest Americans released Monday. John Menard, 73, father and primary sponsor of driver Paul Menard, is 57th on the list with a net worth estimated at $7.5 billion. Next came Tony Stewart's fishing buddy and primary sponsor, John Morris, 65, of Bass Pro Shops, 110th wealthiest at $4 billion. Then, if you count the NASCAR association loosely, Frederick Smith, 69, chairman of FedEx, Denny Hamlin's primary sponsor, comes in 243rd at $2.3 billion. Not until James C. "Jim" France, 68, chairman of International Speedway Corp. and vice chairman of NASCAR, does the Forbes list get to an everyday player in the NASCAR realm. The silent, background power of NASCAR, uncle of chairman Brian France, is worth an estimated $2 billion, ranking him 273rd. John Henry, 64, owner of the Boston Red Sox and co-owner of Roush Fenway Racing, is 327th at $1.7 billion. Only one NASCAR team owner, Roger Penske, made the list, and barely squeaked in at th ...

Aric Almirola started the 2007 NASCAR Nationwide Series race at the Milwaukee Mile when Joe Gibbs Racing teammate Denny Hamlin couldn’t land in the area as he traveled from Sprint Cup qualifying at Infineon Raceway in California. Almirola was running third early in the race when he was pulled from the car because Hamlin had arrived at the track. Hamlin went on to win the race but, per NASCAR rules, since Almirola was credited with the start, he was also credited with the win.
Hi. Speedy here. This is the current picture for the Chase after Talladega: For the next race (points-wise), Everybody who is 29 points or less behind the points leader has a realistic shot at the championship as of 'Dega. Everybody who is 58 points back (two sets of max points) has a mathematically ability to rejoin the hunt should they do well these next couple of races. Everyone 59 points or more behind the leader is now officially out of this year's title hunt That said, here is the point standings: -John Mullen keeps the lead at 1099 points. This means that eveyone who has 1070 points or more has a realistic shot at the championship. Everyone with 1041 points to 1069 points has a mathematical possibility of making it. Everyone with 1040 points or less is now OUT -Cody Llamas (1086) is 2nd -[Database Error] has 1081 points, dropping him to 3rd -Kyle Busch and Hunter Keero are tied for 4th with 1077 points each -Jacob Craigo and Denny Hamlin are literally on that outer edge of the primary bracket of dr ...
The Daytona 500- For an event that is often billed as “The Super Bowl of NASCAR” this race was a tremendous letdown in 2013. Once we got beyond the hype for Danica Patrick’s pole winning run, there was nothing to get excited about as drivers and teams worked to get a handle on the latest restrictor plate rules package. For the most part, the race was a 500 mile parade with a few moves being made at the very end to offer a bit of excitement. And what might have been worst of all for some fans, the race served as a preview of things to come with Jimmie Johnson winning on his way to a sixth Sprint Cup title. It wasn’t the much disliked 2×2 style of racing, but it wasn’t very good either. Parading in general- And speaking of parade racing, that pretty summed up the entire NASCAR Sprint Cup season. And no where was that more evident than on the so-called ‘cookie cutter’ tracks where the only passing seemed to take place on pit stop exchanges and immediately after restarts. And to make matters wo ...

Coach Gibbs three drivers Matt Kenseth, Kyle Busch and Denny Hamlin gave JGR the most victories among team owners in 2013. Their combined total of 12, led by Kenseths seven victories, represented a .333 winning percentage over the seasons 36 races. Kenseth entered the Chase with the No. 1 seed. 2013 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series Top Performances: Johnson took a giant step toward joining NASCARs pantheon of legends. From February 24, 2013 (Daytona 500) to November 17, 2013 (Homestead) it’s been a great year for NASCAR with a few exceptions. At the first of the new 2013 race season, who would have thought that the past Champion Brad Keselowski, Denny Hamlin, and Tony Stewart, all would all NOT be in the Chase. All in all, it was an outstanding year. We had the debut of NASCAR's Sprint Cup Series Generation-6 race cars. We had 19 track qualifying records by 11 different drivers. There were 17 different winners -- only two off the modern-era record. We had twenty races that were decided by less than one second. This Gen-6 car looks and drives great. I would also like to congratulate Jimmy Johnson for his sixth Championship. (AKA - Six Pack). Tony Stewart will be the first to tell you that to win two Championships with the competition of today’s teams is very hard. To win six, puts the # 48 on top. Again, thanks to all of the fine folks who toured with us in 2013. Our tours set new records and we are working on ...
Just watched the NASCAR Sprint Cup Championship race on the DVR. Congrats to Denny Hamlin for winning the race. Congrats to Jimmie Johnson for wining his sixth Cup Championship. Also thank you to Juan Pablo Montoya. You have always been one of my favorite drivers. Thank you for your time in NASCAR. I will be cheering for you next year in Indycar. Hamlin Wins Battle In Homestead as JJ Notches Sixth Title Racin' with Russ By RUSSELL SCHMIDT While the Gibbs Toyotas of Kyle Busch, Denny Hamlin and Matt Kenseth were battling it out for the top spot, Jimmie Johnson was trying to hold on to his lead to claim his sixth NASCAR Cup title. In the closing laps of the Homestead race, Hamlin rose to the lead with Kenseth hanging for second with Dale Earnhardt Jr, Martin Truex Jr and Clint Bowyer capping the top five. Johnson certainly had some anxious moments during the latter stages of the race when he nearly got caught up in a few other peoples messes, only to slide down some 20 spots in the order. He rallied back to finish ninth, 19 points ahead of Kenseth in the 2013 title picture. The race itself was rather *** hum, a trend in 2013 for sure and I'm looking for changes next year to bring more action back into the sport. Most of the time the field was well spread out with little side-by-side scenarios. Some notes of interest: Johnson never led a lap, while r ...
Another NASCAR Sprint Cup championship for Chad Knaus. In more interesting news, a great win for Denny Hamlin after a very rough season... literally. Broke his back. Broke his ankle. Two concussions. Came back and dominated tonight. Good for him.
In a come from behind, overtime, game the Bears knocked off the Ravens 23-20. Denny Hamlin won the Sprint Cup race today and Jimmie Johnson won the Cup, for the 6th time. Congrats to my buddy Denny Hamlin on winning the last Sprint Cup race of 2013!!! Big things in 2014 for Denny!!
Only four drivers made up points deficit in finale: Since the inception of the position-based points system in 1975, only four drivers have made up a points deficit in the season finale: Richard Petty in 1979 (made up two points on Darrell Waltrip), Alan Kulwicki in 1992 (made up 30 points on Davey Allison), Jimmie Johnson in 2010 (made up 15 points on Denny Hamlin) and Tony Stewart in 2011 (made up three points on Carl Edwards). Note: Stewarts comeback is the only one made under the current one-point-per-position structure.

Got home from evening church, turned on ESPN 2, and saw that Kevin Harvick won the race. Makes me feel strangely conflicted - it is at least a win for Richard Childress, so I think I'll go ahead and be happy. And unlike some other people I know, I still think there are bigger villains than Harvick. Villains such as Kyle Busch, Kurt Busch, Denny Hamlin, and Carl Edwards.

Where to go with this one?       NASCAR       Jimmie Johnson does it again. Outside of a strong Kyle Busch opening, no other driver controlled the Daytona Summer race like JJ. The second practices of both series were half the teams making qualifying runs and the other half sitting in the garage. Massive confiscations of roof flap spacers that had been modified to reduce weight, 16 Cup teams and 15 Nationwide teams. The Cup teams include all three Joe Gibbs Racing entries (Kyle Busch, Denny Hamlin, and Matt Kenseth), all three Roush Racing entries (Greg Biffle, Carl Edwards, and Ricky Stenhouse Jr.), all three Michael Waltrip Racing entries (Clint Bowyer, Martin Truex Jr., and Michael Waltrip), both Roger Penske Racing entries (Joey Logano and defending series champion Brad Keselowski), both Richard Petty Motorsports entries (Marcos Ambrose and Aric Almirola), Germain Racing's Casey Mears, Earnhardt-Ganassi Racing's Jamie McMurray, and Wood Brothers Racing's Trevor Bayne. NASCAR team boss Joe Gibbs sure Denny Hamlin will complete season: Denny Hamlin's NASCAR Sprint Cup team owner...
Alas Poor Readers, I am back on this July 4th week with some sports views as only I can do. Before I begin, thoughts and prayers to those families and friends of the lost firefighters in Arizona. You lads made the ultimate sacrifice to protect your community. I salute you!     NASCAR     Great job by Matt Kenseth winning in Kentucky on Sunday. After he ran over some debris during the middle of the race, I was waiting for his car to break down to tell the truth.     Speaking of the win, this was Kenseth's 4th for the season. This puts him on top of the Chase standings "if the season were to end today".     Face it Jimmie Johnson, every driver now knows to slow down the caution restart now SPECIFICALLY because they know it frustrates you.     Just when you get comfortable with a race, count on Kurt Busch to shake things up. Safe to say folks are going to look at him and Brad Keselowski whenever they are close together in the next few races.     I think this crash effectively sinks Denny Hamlin's ...
Denny Hamlin was cleared Monday by doctors who performed tests to see whether the Joe Gibbs Racing driver suffered a concussion in Sunday's crash at Kentucky Speedway. Hamlin, who missed four races earlier this year with a compression fracture in his lower back, complained of a headache after having his "bell rung" when a tire blew and sent his No. 11 Toyota hard into the wall. He saw doctors in Indianapolis on Monday morning before a scheduled two-day test at Indianapolis Motor Speedway. JGR officials said the driver was cleared for that and to race in Saturday's Sprint Cup race at Daytona International Speedway. Hamlin said after the race that his back, injured during a March 24 crash at Auto Club Speedway in California, was fine after the wreck. Although Sunday's crash left him with little chance of making the Chase -- he is 25th in points and 104 points out of the top 20 needed with wins to qualify as a wild card -- Hamlin said he has no plans to take a break. "Definitely have to proceed on," Hamlin t ...

DAVE GRAYSON'S RACING NOTEBOOK. KENTUCKY SPEEDWAY STORYLINES. Dale Earnhardt Jr. After winning the pole position, and setting a new track record, this driver had his Junior Nation fan club all hyped up and thinking win. However, on lap 38, Denny Hamlin was approaching pit road with a flat right front tire. All of a sudden the carcass, or outer liner, of Hamlin's tire rolled off of the car and journeyed up the track directly in the path of Earnhardt's car. The tire struck the front of the car and punched a hole in the grill. It also bent the right side of the splitter which created havoc with the car's handling package. The tire careened off of the Earnhardt car and then created minor damage to Jimmie Johnson's car. It was one of those one in a million bizarre racing moments. After returning from pit road following repairs, Earnhardt worked his way to a 12th place finish. That's also making chicken salad out of chicken do do. DENNY HAMLIN. This driver survived the unscheduled pit stop from the lap 38 flat ...

HAMLIN WON'T GIVE UP HOPE ON CHASE, DESPITE ODDS: Denny Hamlin still had grass on his drivers suit as he debriefed with his Joe Gibbs Racing team following a frustrating Sunday afternoon at Sonoma Raceway. “That happens when you wreck,’’ Hamlin offered, shaking his head. Typically a championship contender, Hamlin looked disappointed and dejected Sunday afternoon. He knows the opportunities are dwindling for him to race himself into NASCAR’s Chase for the Sprint Cup post-season. And after missing four races recovering from a back injury, he is understandably feeling a certain sense of urgency. Sunday’s outing on the 1.99-mile Sonoma road course didn’t help matters. Although he ran among the top-10 early in the race, Hamlin’s No. 11 FedEx Toyota was hit from behind by Tony Stewart midway through the event, sending him hard into the Turn 7 tire wall. He went off track again later in the race avoiding another incident and ultimately finished 23rd, his Camry beaten, his mojo battered, his driver ...
