Introduction ::INDIA Background: The Indus Valley civilization, one of the world's oldest, flourished during the 3rd and 2nd millennia B.C. and extended into northwestern India. Aryan tribes from the northwest infiltrated the Indian Subcontinent about 1500 B.C.; their merger with the earlier Dravidian inhabitants created the classical Indian culture. The Maurya Empire of the 4th and 3rd centuries B.C. - which reached its zenith under ASHOKA - united much of South Asia. The Golden Age ushered in by the Gupta dynasty (4th to 6th centuries A.D.) saw a flowering of Indian science, art, and culture. Islam spread across the subcontinent over a period of 700 years. In the 10th and 11th centuries, Turks and Afghans invaded India and established the Delhi Sultanate. In the early 16th century, the Emperor BABUR established the Mughal Dynasty which ruled India for more than three centuries. European explorers began establishing footholds in India during the 16th century. By the 19th century, Great Britain had become ...
2007). 1297 CE – 1850 CE In 1297 to 1298 Allauddin Khilji, Sultan of Delhi, destroyed Anhilwara and incorporated Gujarat into the Delhi Sultanate. After Timur's sacking of Delhi at the end of the fourteenth century weakened the Sultanate, Gujarat's Muslim governor Zafar Khan Muzaffar asserted his independence, and his son, Sultan Ahmed Shah (ruled 1411 to 1442), restructured Ahmedabad as the capital. Cambay eclipsed Bharuch as Gujarat's most important trade port. The Sultanate of Gujarat remained independent until 1576, when the Mughal emperor Akbar conquered it and annexed it to the Mughal Empire. The port of Surat become the prominent and main port of India during Mughal rule. Gujarat remained a province of the Mughal Empire until the Marathas sacked eastern and central Gujarat in the eighteenth century; Western Gujarat (Kathiawar and Kutch) were divided among numerous local rulers. 1614 CE - 1947 CE Portugal was the first European power to arrive in Gujarat, acquiring several enclaves along the Gujar ...

Lucknow is caught in a time warp. It exists in an in-between land of the past and the present looking back constantly to the memories of a colonial-Nawabi past. There is at the same time a sense of pride at the thought of being after Delhi, the most important center of power in free India. Politics has indeed been Lucknow's forte but culture has been its historical identification.; Nawabi legacy: Despite the Indo-Persian legacy, Lucknow has a composite Indian culture. The welding of various cultural strains nurtured by centuries of Mughal and later Delhi Sultanate rule, to the folk traditions of the Indo-Gangetic plains has produced a complex, yet rich synthesis. The Urdu language acquired its baffling phonetic nuances and suave perfection here. It was in Nawab Wajed Ali Shah's court that the most advanced of all classical Indian dance forms, the Kathak , took shape. The popular Parsi theatre originated from the Urdu theatre of this city. The tabla and the sitar were first heard on the streets of Lucknow. ...
Hieun Tsang described a kingdom in Rajasthan which he calls Ku-cha-lo (or Gurjara) largely because the whole of the marwar area of rajasthan was more or less identified with the Gurjars, as early as the 6th or 7th century.[2] The Gurjara Pratihara[3] established a kingdom in Marwar in History of MARWAR. the 6th century, with a capital at Mandore,[4] 9 km from present-day Jodhpur. The ruined city of Osian or Ossian, 65 km from Jodhpur, was an important religious centre of the Pratihara period. The Jodhpur state was founded in the 13th century by the Rathore[citation needed] clan of Rajputs, who claim descent from the Gahadvala kings of Kannauj. After the sacking of Kannauj by Muhammad of Ghor in 1194, and its capture by the Delhi Sultanate in the early 13th century, the Rathores fled west. The Rathore family chronicles relate that Siyaji, grandson of Jai Chandra, the last Gahadvala king of Kannauj, came to Marwar on a pilgrimage to Dwarka in Gujarat. On halting at the town of Pali he and his followers sett ...

Swargdwari was the Capital town of Gaharwars and was located in Kaimganj Tehsil of District Farrukhabad in Northern state Uttar Pradesh of India. Kunwar Rai singh was the last king of this city. He was better known by the name of KHORAH in historical literature of 12th and 13th century AD. Kunwar Rai Singh was ruling in this territory before Shams-ud-din Iltutmish, as a governor of Badaun invaded him around 1212 AD. After this invasion name of this town was also changed to Shamsabad after the invader's name. In 1328 AD Swargdwari also got a chance to become capital of Delhi Sultanate during rule of Muhammad bin Tughluq. While he decided to shift his capital from Delhi to Daulatabad, his plan failed due to inadequate water supply arrangements in Daulatabad or Devgiri. Muhammad bin Tughluq decided to shift capital to water rich area in central Doab on the bank of holy river Ganges in Swargdwari or Shamsabad. Though this decision was also changed soon for Delhi, as this region was politically unstable.
Reddy kingdom (1325–1448 CE) The Reddy kingdom (1325–1448 CE) was established in southern India by Prolaya Vema Reddy. The region that was ruled by the Reddy dynasty is now part of modern day coastal and central Andhra Pradesh. Prolaya Vema Reddy was part of the confederation that started a movement against the invading Muslim armies of the Delhi Sultanate in 1323 CE and succeeded in repulsing them from Warangal.Reddy is a social group or caste of India, predominantly inhabiting Andhra Pradesh. Muhammd Bin Tughluq (Turkic Sultan of Delhi from 1325 to 1351) transferred his Delhi capital in 1327 to Deogir, now Daulatabad, which was intended to consolidate the conquests in southern India by large scale which miserably failed. He had lived to see his empire fall apart. During his reign, new kingdoms broke away in south India and the Deccan. Several south Indian rulers like Prolaya Vema Reddy of the Reddy dynasty, Musunuri Kaapaaneedu and Hakka and Bukka of the Vijayanagara Empire liberated whole south India from the Delhi Sultanate and the Bahmani kingdom was founded by Hasan Gangu. Almost similar has happened in the recent past in two historical capitals of medieval and modern India. In Patna (old-Pataliputra), Chief Minister Nitish Kimar broke away from its ruling ally to consolidate his vote bank wholly on religion line instead of relying on his beautiful developmental plans the state was undergoing through in his stewardship. He was squarely defeated in the misadventure. Similar had happened wit ...

History of Telangana explained in 10 points 1. The name Telangana is derived from the word Telugu Angana, which means a place where Telugu is spoken. The Nizams (1724-1948) used the word Telangana to differentiate it from the Marathi speaking regions of their kingdom 2. The region experienced a Golden Age, in between 1083-1203, under the reign of the Kakatiyas who established Warangal as their capital 4. The region came under the Delhi Sultanate till 1687, when Golconda (near Hyderabad) fell to Aurangzeb 5. General Information about Rajasthan 31/10/07 Mother India, the vast Subcontinent constituting the world's largest democracy, an intriguingly complex religious and cultural tapestry with her great mercantile classes, sprawling bureaucracies and exploding economy, remains one of the most visually memorable and bewitching journeys ever. Of all her states, Rajasthan is perhaps the most tribally diverse, artistically decorative, architecturally magnificent and regal in India. It is impossible to experience and absorb in a single trip the magnitude of what India offers: the incredible light, the austere and atmospheric landscapes of desert and ancient Aravali mountains, the romance of Rajasthan’s heritage and chivalry, the hospitality and humour of the people whether from regal lineage or simple, dignified desert- dwellers, and their arts and crafts. Pakistan, officially the Islamic Republic of Pakistan is a country in South Asia. It has a 1,046-kilometre (650 mi) coastline along the Arabian Sea and the Gulf of Oman in the south and is bordered by Afghanistan and Iran in the west, India in the east and China in the far northeast. Tajikistan also lies very close to Pakistan but is separated by the narrow Wakhan Corridor. Strategically it is located in a position between the important regions of South Asia, Central Asia and the Middle East. The region forming modern Pakistan was the site of several ancient cultures including the neolithic Mehrgarh and the bronze era Indus Valley Civilisation. Subsequently it was the recipient of Vedic, Persian, Indo-Greek, Islamic, Turco-Mongol, and Sikh cultures through several invasions and/or settlements. As a result the area has remained a part of numerous empires and dynasties including the Persian empires, Islamic caliphates and the Mongol, Mughal, Sikh and British Empires. Pakistan gained independence from the Br ...

Khawaja Ameer Khusro R.A Early life and background Amīr Khusrow was born in Patiyali in Etah, Uttar Pradesh. His father, Amīr Saif-ud-Dīn Mahmūd, was a Turkic officer and a member of the Lachin tribe of Transoxania , themselves belonging to the Kara-Khitais . [5][6][7] At the invasion of Genghis Khan , Saif-ud-Din migrated from his hometown Kesh, near Samarkand, to Balkah. Saif-ud-Din was then the chieftain of the Hazara. Shams-ud-Din Altamish, the Sultan of Delhi welcomed them to Delhi. He provided shelter to the dislodged princes, artisans, scholars and rich nobles. In 1230, he was granted a fief in the district of Patiali (in Etah District of present Uttar Pradesh). Amir Saif-ud-Din married Bibi Daulat Naz, who was the daughter of Rawat Arz, the famous war minister of Balban , and belonged to the Rajput tribes of Uttar Pradesh. [7][8] They had four children, three sons and a daughter. Amir Khusro was one among them born in the year 1252-53 CE at Patiyali (Hazrat Amir Khusro Nagar). His father Saif- ...

Invitation to Replace Lodi: In 1521, a perfect opportunity for southern expansion presented itself to Babur. The sultan of the Delhi Sultanate, Ibrahim Lodi, was hated and reviled by his ordinary citizens and the nobility alike. He had shaken up the military and court ranks, installing his own followers in place of the old guard, and ruled the lower classes with an arbitrary and tyrannical style. After just four years of Lodi's rule, the Afghan nobility were so fed up with him that they invited the Timurid Babur to come to the Delhi Sultanate and depose Ibrahim Lodi. Naturally, Babur was quite happy to comply. He gathered an army, and launched a siege on Kandahar. The Kandahar Citadel, however, held out for much longer than Babur had anticipated. As the siege dragged on, however, important nobles and military men from the Delhi Sultanate such as Ibrahim Lodi's uncle, Alam Khan, and the governor of Punjab allied themselves with Babur. First Battle of Panipat: Five years after his initial invitation into th ...

Wonder why we do not read too much about these happenings in our past. The greatest Heist in Indian history..How Indian History was changed and we didn’t even notice. Part 1:The lost eon 4th Century AD to 1174 A.D The Gupta dynasty as a dynasty, ended in about 6th century AD. However, the last meaningful king that our History textbooks bother to mention is Chandragupta II, whose reign ended in 4th Century AD. And then, the scene is fast forwarded to the point where Mohammad Ghauri invaded India in 1191, to start the Delhi Sultanate which would then metamorphose into the Islamic Empire. What does the above line tell you? It tells you that an average tenth grader actually knows nothing about what happened in India in the intervening period between the Guptas and the Delhi Sultanate (A time period of about 800 years). At least they do not think it was worth remembering. To be fair they are not to blame, especially when you consider our academicians have dedicated ONE single Chapter in the Seventh standard ...

History of khangar rajput During Khangar rule, Bundelkhand was known as ‘Jujhauti’ implying the land of warriors.[citation needed] Khangars ruled Jujhauti from their capital at Garh Kundar till the middle of 14th century AD. It is said[who?] that the daughter of last Khangar king Maan Singh, whose name was Rajkumari Kesar Dei, was very beautiful. When Mohammad bin Tughlaq, the contemporary ruler of Delhi Sultanate, came to know about the beauty of Kesar Dei, he sent a marriage proposal to her father, with a warning of bad consequences in case of refusal. It was unacceptable to the Khangars, who vowed to fight the sultan. Mohammad Tughlaq got very annoyed at the adamancy of Khangars and sent a large army to attack and capture Garh Kundar.[citation needed] A battle ensued between the sultan’s army and the warriors of Jujhauti.[where?][when?] Many Khangars died, including the crown prince Bardai Singh and king Maan Singh.[citation needed] When it was known that Khangars would lose the war, in 1347 AD, ...

Does fate and destiny have to do something with the area around Kurukshetra? Kurukshetra is of course the battlefield where the great war of Mahabharat was fought. But this thread is not to discuss Mahabharat, for a change. :) I am talking about the three great wars that have been fought at Panipat, hardly a stone's throw away from Kurukshetra. There were three battles fought that changed the history of medieval and modern India - apart for the second battle of Tarain (Taraori), near Thanesar in present-day Haryana, approximately 150 kilometres north of Delhi, India, Fought in 1192, in this battle, Mohammed Ghori defeated Prithviraj Chauhan. Even this town is not too far from Kurukshetra. 1. The First Battle of Panipat in 1526 was fought between the forces of Ibrahim Lodi, the ruler of Delhi and Babur, the Mughal invador. Ibrahim Lodi was defeated and killed. With that ended the Delhi Sultanate and paved way for the establishment of the Mughal Empire in India. It was the second turning point in the histor ...

*History of Karlal* The Karlal (also known as Kard'al, Karaal, Karhral, or Kiraal) is a Hindko speaking tribe in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, Pakistan. This tribe is settled in Abbottabad and Haripur districts of Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa province of Pakistan. The tribe descent from Kallar Shah who was an Afghan and is believed to be a descendant of the Greek soldiers of Alexander the Great. In Haripur and Abbottabad, they are known as 'Sardars' (chiefs) because prior to the time of the Delhi Sultanate (1206–1296) they were among the original sardars (meaning leaders) of this area. Today, the majority of the people of the Karlal tribe are Sunni Muslims. Although the Sardari-System is now obsolete, the name prevails due to extensive usage by local people, including other tribes who prefer to refer Karlals as sardars. The origins of the Karlal are mentioned both in the census reports of Ibbetson and Rose as well as in the Hazara District Gazetteers of 1884, 1907 and others - compiled during British rule. They are extensiv ...

The project management was carried out under the superintendence of Khalilullah Khan, a noble of Shah Jahan's court. Jaunpur district is located to the northwest of Varanasi. Jaunpur's history dates from 1388 when the Sultan of Delhi, Feroz Shah Tughlaq, appointed Malik Sarwar, a eunuch, as governor of the region. The Delhi Sultanate was weakened by the 1398 sacking of Delhi by Timur and Malik Sarwar declared independence. Malik Sarwar and his son founded the Sharqi dynasty. During the Sharqi period the Jaunpur Sultanate was a strong military power in Northern India, and on several occasions threatened the Delhi Sultanate. Jaunpur was then a major center of Urdu and Sufi knowledge and culture. Slowly Jaunpur flourished as an important cultural center. Jaunpur's independence came to an end in 1480, when Sikander Lodi, the Sultan of Delhi, conquered the city. The Sharqi kings attempted for several years to retake the city, but ultimately failed. Though the Jaunpur Kingdom did not last long yet it left its mark, particularly, in realms of culture and music. The period saw the construction of many great and beautiful buildi ...

ISLAM AND THE WEST: - PART I If a student of history were to search for an analogy to illustrate the interactions between the West and the Islamic world in the twentieth century, that of the Ocean and the Volcano would be an appropriate one. While the convulsions within the Islamic world have largely been a function of its own internal dialectic, the interference from the West in this dialectic has played a major role in them. It is as if the Islamic world, which has been submerged in the ocean of Western dominance, is seeking to find its place in the sun, and from time to time, an island emerges here and there. But as soon as the first rock sticks its head out, the ocean strikes it with unrelenting fury until it is broken into pieces and is submerged again. The Western ocean has subsumed the creative energies of the Islamic world for more than a century. As a result, the sheer power of pent up frustrations in the Islamic world sputters like intermittent volcanoes, cleaving the sea apart. But each time it ...
Jaunpur Fort (Shahi fort) Shahi qila or Shahi fort or Karar Fort or Jaunpur fort is a 14th-century fort in Jaunpur, Uttar Pradesh, India. Close to the bridge, on the banks of Gomti, is the fort, built in 1360 by Sultan Firoz Shah Tughlaq with materials brought in from the palace and temples of the Rathore kings of Kannauj. It is one of the chief tourist attractions in Jaunpur. The mosque bears the evidences of the times in which it was built. The Atala Masjid is a useful specimen of mosques, not only in Uttar Pradesh but also in India. Construction The Jaunpur fort was built by Fir ...

The famous Dargah Kaliyar Sharif is now in existence for about 800 years. The arrival of Khwaja Makhdoom Alauddin Ahmed Sabir Pak popularly known as “Baba Sabir” at Kaliyar unfolds some interesting episodes of his life. It is said that after his father’s death, Sabir’s mother Hazrat-e-Hazra brought him to Pakpattan in 1204 A D where her brother Baba Farid lived. Eleven-year-old Sabir could make unusual predictions. One day, he predicted his grandfather’s death. Astonished by this revelation, his uncle asked: “Sabir, when you are here, how can you predict your grandfather’s death, who lives in Baghdad?” Sabir told his maternal uncle: “Right now when I was meditating, I saw my father’s face. He pointed his three fingers towards me which signals death.” Baba Farid believed him and said: “Child you are a saint by birth.” Thereafter, Baba Farid decided to teach Sabir lessons on worldly wisdom and declare him a scholar. After three years of stay in Pakpattan, Sabir’s mother decided t ...
BABAR FARID GUNJ SHAKAR,  PAKPATTAN Bābā Farīd was born in 1173 or 1188 AD (584 Hijri) at Kothewal village, 10 km from Multan in the Punjab region of the Chauhan dynasty in what is now Pakistan, to Jamāl-ud-dīn Suleimān and Maryam Bībī (Qarsum Bībī), daughter of Sheikh Wajīh-ud-dīn Khojendī.[3] Baba Farid’s ancestors were from a town called Aush, south of Fergana [Babur’s hometown] south east of Andijan. Farid’s grandfather [Qadi Shuaib] left Kabul and took refuge in Lahore under the Ghaznavid Sultan in 1125.[4] Farīd's genealogy is a source of dispute, as some trace his ancestors back to al-Husayn while others trace his lineage back to the second Caliph Umar ibn Khattab.[citation needed] Baba Farid's ancestors came from Kufa, while Abdullah ibn Umar died during the Hajj and was buried in Makkah. The family tree of Baba Fareed traces through Abu Ishaq Ibrahim bin Adham, whose ancestors came from Kufa.[dubious – discuss]Bābā Farīd received his early education at Multan, which had ...

Tourist Information about Mumbai (Bombay) Mumbai is the capital of Maharastra State and the gateway to this beguiling subcontinent. Of the four great cities in India, Mumbai is the most cosmopolitan, spear heading India's move into the 21st century. The word Mumbai is derived from Mumbadevi, the patron goddess of the Koli fisherfolk, the oldest inhabitants of Mumbai. The name Mumbai, in its final form, dates back to the 18 th century. For Portuguese, the name Bombay is Good Bay ("Bom" "Bay" Good Bay). Mumbai is a cluster of seven islands. These islands of no great value were ceded to Portuguese in 1534 by the Sultan of Gujarat. The Portuguese in turn given these islands to Englands's Chareless II as part of the wedding dowry of Catherine of Braganza when she married Englands's Charles II in 1661. In 1668, the British government leased the islands to the East India Company for 10 pounds per annum in the form of gold and Mumbai grew gradually to become centre of trade. Population (1991 census) : 12596000 (1 ...

Gangadhar or Ghiyazuddin Ghazi The fact on the scion of the dynasty, namely Ganga Dhar, had been kept a secret from the Indian public, primarily, the Hindus. It is now quite clear, as you will soon see, that Ganga Dhar was an assumed name. The man we now know as the paternal grandfather of Jawahar Lal (son of Moti Lal) was in reality a sunni Mohammedan; in fact he was a related to the Mogul Dynasty , a Mughal nobleman. The important question is why did he then adopt a Hindu kafir's name? In this case a Kashmiri Brahmin's name?Jawahar Lal had referred to when he wrote in his autobigraphy that he had seen a picture of his grandfather Ganga Dhar , which protrayed him as a Mogul nobleman. Krishna Hutheesing (Jawahar's second sister) had also mentioned in her memoirs, that their grandfather Ganga Dhar was the city Kotwal of Delhi (an important post) prior to 1857's uprising. Bahadur Shah Zafar was still the sultan of Delhi. It was extremely unlikely that he would hire a Hindu for that very important post. 5 ye ...

Hindustan,Today we understand it as India, the modern nation state. When the term was used in the thirteenth century by Minhaj-i-Siraj, a chronicler who wrote in Persian, he meant the areas of Punjab, Haryana and the lands between the Ganga and Yamuna. He used the term in a political sense for lands that were a part of the dominions of the Delhi Sultan. The areas included in this term shifted with the extent of the Sultanate but the term never included south India within it. By contrast, in the early sixteenth century Babur used Hindustan to describe the geography, the fauna and the culture of the inhabitants of the subcontinent. NCERT Books.
Accession at gunpoint By Waseem Altaf During British Raj Baluchistan did not enjoy the status of a province but comprised four princely states namely: Makran, Kharan, Lasbela and Kalat. The Khan of Kalat was the Head of the confederacy, also known as the Baluchistan States Union. The northern areas of Balochistan including Bolan Pass, Quetta, Nushki and Naseerabad were leased out to Britain, which were later, named as British Balochistan. In 1876 Sir Robert Sandeman Chief Commissioner of Balochistan concluded a treaty with the Khan of Kalat and brought his territories which included all four princely states under British suzerainty. The treaty between the Khan of Kalat and Robert Sandeman accepted the independence of Kalat as an allied state with British military outposts in the region. The British interest in the region was to use it as a land mass bulwark against Central Asian encroachments. Around 1830’s Balochi nationalist parties emerged to contest for freedom from British rule. The princely state ...

Pashtun people (Pashto: پښتانه Pax̌tānə; also spelled Pushtun, Pakhtun or Pukhtun), also known as ethnic Afghans or Pathans are an Iranic ethnic group belonging to Afghanistan and Pakistan. They are typically characterised by the usage of the Eastern Iranian Pashto language and practice of Pashtunwali, which is a traditional set of ethics guiding individual and communal conduct. Their origins are unclear but historians have come across references to various ancient peoples called Pakthas (Pactyans) between the 2nd and the 1st millennium BC, inhabiting the region between the Hindu Kush and Indus River, who may be the early ancestors of the Pashtun people. Since the 3rd century AD onward, they have been referred to by the ethnonym Often characterised as a warrior and martial race, their history is spread amongst various countries of South, Central and Western Asia, centred around their traditional seat of power in medieval Afghanistan. Firuz Shah Tughlaq Firuz Shah Tughlaq was the third ruler of the Tuqhlaq dynasty of Delhi Sultanate. The “Tarikh-i-Firuz Shah”, it records atrocities committed against Hindu Brahmin priests who refused to convert to Islam: An order was accordingly given to the Brahman and was brought before Sultan. The true faith was declared to the Brahman and the right course pointed out. but he refused to accept it. History - They have a history that The Tanoli consider themselves to descend from one Amir Khan, who (so says their tradition) arrived in the Tanawal valley with his sons around 1500, having crossed the Indus river to get there. The ancestors of the Tanoli eventually settled in Mahaban. Some time later, in search of land, they crossed the Indus river under the command of Maulvi Mohammad Ibrahim, and captured territory from the Turkic peoples settled there. Among the new settlers was Amir Khan Beerdewa and his six sons (Pall Khan, Hind Khan, Thakar Khan, Arjin Khan and Kul Khan) who settled the Tanawal region; the six clans or sub-tribes are allegedly named after the six sons of Beerdewa. Tanoli's have ruled the state of Amb of Hazara since the 13th century up until the wars with the Sikhs in the 19th century. They were frequently engaged in rebellions with successive rulers of the Delhi Sultanate as well as allying with Ahmed Shah Abdali in his conquest of India. APNI PURANI DELHI-The site of Shahjahanabad is north of earlier settlements of Delhi, its southern part overlaps some of the area settled during the Tughlaqs in 14th century, when it was the seat of Delhi Sultanate. The sultanates ruled from Delhi between 1206 and 1526, when the last was replaced by the Mughal Dynasty. The five dynasties were the Mamluk dynasty (1206–90); the Khalji dynasty (1290–1320); the Tughlaq dynasty (1320–1414); the Sayyid dynasty (1414–51); and the Lodi dynasty (1451–1526). Delhi remained an important place for the Mughals, they built palaces and forts here. Most importantly, it was Shah Jahan, who had the walled city built from 1638 to 1649, containing the Lal Qila and the Chandni Chowk. Daryaganj had the original cantonment of Delhi, after 1803, where a native regiment of Delhi garrison was stationed, which was later shifted to Ridge area. East of Daryaganj was Raj ghat Gate of the walled city, opening at Raj Ghat on Yamuna River.First wholesale market of Old Delhi ope ...
Vinay Lal The great grandson of Tamerlane, Babar, who on his mother's side was descended from the famous Genghiz Khan, came to India in 1526 at the request of an Indian governor who sought Babar's help in his fight against Ibrahim Lodi, the last head of the Delhi Sultanate. Babar defeated Lodi at Panipat, not far from Delhi, and so came to establish the Mughal Empire in India. Babar ruled until 1530, and was succeeded by his son Humayun, who gave the empire its first distinctive features. But it is Humayun's son, Akbar the Great, who is conventionally described as the glory of the empire. Akbar reigned from 1556 to 1605, and extended his empire as far to the west as Afghanistan, and as far south as the Godavari river. Akbar, though a Muslim, is remembered as a tolerant ruler, and he even started a new faith, Din-i-Ilahi, which was an attempt to blend Islam with Hinduism, Christianity, Jainism, and other faiths. He won over the Hindus by naming them to important military and civil positions, by conferring ...
SAMOSA The samosa has been a popular snack in the Subcontinent for centuries. It is believed to have originated in Central Asia (where it is known as samsa[4]) prior to the 10th century.Abolfazl Beyhaqi (995-1077), an Iranian historian has mentioned it in his history, Tarikh-e Beyhaghi. It was introduced to the subcontinent in the 13th or 14th century by traders from the region. In the early sixteenth century, descendants of the Mongol, Turkish, Iranian, and Afghan invaders of South Asia--the Mughals--invaded India under the leadership of Zahir-ud-Din Babur. Babur was the great-grandson of Timur Lenk (Timur the Lame, from which the Western name Tamerlane is derived), who had invaded India and plundered Delhi in 1398 and then led a short-lived empire based in Samarkand (in modern-day Uzbekistan) that united Persian-based Mongols (Babur's maternal ancestors) and other West Asian peoples. Babur was driven from Samarkand and initially established his rule in Kabul in 1504; he later became the first Mughal ruler (1526-30). His determination was to expand eastward into Punjab, where he had made a number of forays. Then an invitation from an opportunistic Afghan chief in Punjab brought him to the very heart of the Delhi Sultanate, ruled by Ibrahim Lodi (1517-26). Babur, a seasoned military commander, entered India in 1526 with his well-trained veteran army of 12,000 to meet the sultan's ...

WELCOME TO DELHI ON SATURDAY 26th of JANUARY: The Indian capital city of Delhi has a long history, including a history as the capital of several empires. The history of the city is as old as the epic Mahabharata. According to Indian folklore, Delhi was the site of the magnificent and opulent Indraprastha, capital of the Pandavas in the Indian epic Mahabharata, founded around 3500 BC. Eight more cities came alive adjacent to Indraprastha: Lal Kot, Siri, Dinpanah, Quila Rai Pithora, Ferozabad, Jahanpanah, Tughlakabad and Shahjahanabad. The dynasties which ruled in the Delhi Sultanate (1206-1526) are as following: The Delhi Sultanate is a term used to cover five short-lived dynasties. • The Mamluk Dynasty or Slave Dynasty, directed into India by Qutb-ud-din Aybak, a Turkish general of Central Asian birth, was the first of five unrelated dynasties to rule India's Delhi Sultanate from 1206 to 1290. • The Khilji Dynasty who ruled large parts of South Asia, they were the second Muslim dynasty to rule the Del ...

The incident took place when a state roadways conductor, Sultan Singh, was travelling in a bus when a group of people started harassing a woman passenger, as per an English news channel report. When Singh objected to the harassment, he was beaten and stabbed by them. Despite being assaulted, no other passenger travelling in the bus at that time came forward to help Singh. Ambala: The brutal gangrape of a 23-year-old para-medical student in Delhi in December 2012 was perhaps one of the worst examples of public apathy. In another unfortunate incident in Ambala, the passengers in a bus stood watching when the conductor was stabbed for taking on molesters. For days, the nation protested on roads after the gangrape on a bus in Delhi. But in Ambala, a hero, who might have averted a repeat of what happened in Delhi got no help when he needed it most. Sultan Singh, a state roadways conductor, who was not on duty, stopped a group of four youngsters when they harassed a woman on a bus. The molesters stabbed Singh, but no one in the crowded bus stepped forward when slumped bleeding. He got down at the next stop to get medical help, while the molesters continued their journey. "I tried to prevent the men from harassing the girl and they started beating me. No one in the bus came to my help, I had to save my life," Singh said. The police station was barely 150 metres away, but no one i ...

Weekly Takbeer, Srinagar, October 31 st 1990. “ Born in 1966, 24 year old Miss Loura Jane Lambie, a Canadian agricultural science student, was on a stroll on October 11th on the boulevard in Srinagar when it was just getting towards darkness. Near the CentaurHotel, she was having a chat with three local boys asking them about what was going on in Kashmir and was immediately waylaid by personnel of the Indian National Security Guards (MSG) traveling in a white Maruti van. They were armed with automatic weapons and carried radios. One of them, tall but slim, warned Loura not to get into conversation with local Muslim youth.“All of them are very, very dangerous terrorists and can molest you in this desolatespot”, he told her. When the guards asked her who she was, she replied “a Canadian”. “You shall have to accompany us to the police station” and thus Loura was asked to board the vehicle. Instead of any police station, Loura was taken to the Oberoi palace hotel where the guards had a drink, fr ...

Hindu Contribution to Karbala, Hussaini Brahmins: Karbala and how Lahore was involved – by Majid Sheikh IN our school and college days we all loved to assist friends set up `sabeels` alongside Lahore`s traditional `Ashura` procession, providing cold drinks to the thousands who mourned. Sects and beliefs never mattered then. But then neither did one`s religion. For well over 1,332 years, the tragedy of Karbala moves everyone who hears about it, be they Muslim, Christian, Hindu, Sikh or any other religion. This is one incident that brings out the need to support those with a moral position. As children we attended the `sham-ighareeban` with our Shia friends, and learnt the lesson of supporting those in the right. Everyone respected the beliefs of others. Yes, there were always a few silly chaps who wanted attention, but they were at best ignored. The ancient city of Lahore is connected to the tragedy in no uncertain terms. Historical accounts say seven brave warriors from Lahore died while fighting in the ...

HISTORY OF SIROHI The reigning family of Sirohi are Deora Kajputs, a branch of the Chauhan Rajputs, and are said to be immediately descended from one Deoraj, the son of Manji or Siirang, a descendant of Prithvi Raj the Chauhan king of Delhi. Very little is known of the early history of Sirohi State. From the records it appears that the original inhabitants were Bhils. Following the Bhils, the Gehlots were the first Rajputs to settle in Sirohi. They were shortly succeeded by the Pramars, who had their capital at Chandravati, on the banks of the Bands, a few miles to the south-east of Abu, and ruled south to the Narbada, and west to Umarkote and Sindh. The ruins of that once magnificent city are still to be found. The Pramars were succeeded by the Chauhans, who, about a.d. 1152, established themselves along the western border of Sirohi, where Sohi Rao, the Chauhan leader, took Bhinmal and Sanchore. Sohi Rao was the son of the famous Lakhamsi, Raja of Nadole in Marwar. The Chauhans appear to have gradually e ...
Prithvi Raj.jpg Statue of Prithviraj Chauhan at Ajmer Born 1149 Died 1192 (aged 43) Other names Prithvi Raj III Occupation 12th century king of Ajmer and Delhi Prithvi Raj III , commonly known as Prithviraj Chauhan (1149–1192 CE), was a king of the Hindu Chauhan (Chauhamana) dynasty, who ruled the kingdom of Ajmer and Delhi in northern India during the latter half of the 12th century. Prithviraj Chauhan belonged to the Rajput Chauhan clan, which according to a legend mentioned in later manuscripts of Prithviraj Raso was part of Agnivanshi Rajputs, derived its origin from a sacrificial fire-pit. Chauhan was the last independent Hindu king, before Hemu, to sit upon the throne of Delhi. He succeeded to the throne in 1169 CE at the age of 20, and ruled from the twin capitals of Ajmer and Delhi which he received from his maternal grandfather Arkpal or Anangpal III of the Tomara dynasty in Delhi . He controlled much of present-day Rajasthan and Haryana , and unified the Rajputs against Muslim invasions. His e ...

How was the nature of state formation different in Hyderabad and Mysore? The emergence of regional politics like Hyderabad and Mysore is due to weakness of Mughal emperor, but the nature of the state formation is quiet different because after the death of Nizam-ul-Mulk in 1798 marked the closing of the glorious first chapter in the history of Hyderabad. It had started with the foundation of state in 1724 by Nizam-ul-Mulk a prominent noble at the time the saiyids controlled the court of Delhi. He assisted Mohammad Shah in deposing the saiyids and return was given the office of subadar of Deccan. He recognised the administration and streamlined the revenue system. After brief tenure of Wazir at Delhi from 1722 to 1724, he returned to Deccan to set up state which was independent in practice, though he continued to declare allegiance to the Mughal emperor. The formation of regional elite gave stability to this independence as Karen Leonard has shown in her study of Hyderabad political system. Reforms of the r ...
Food Trivia of the Day: Kebab- One of the most loved food across the Globe. Like all other good things Kebabs too are attributed to Persian solders who used swords to grill meat over open field fires..!! Abu Abdullah Muhammad Ibn Battuta, a Moroccon traveler who visited all Muslim rulers of his time, a journey which he undertook in 1325 CE & traveled for the next 30 years, covering almost 75,000 Kms, mentions that Kebabs were cooked in the Royal Kitchen of Sultan Muhammad Tughlaq & even commoners enjoyed them for breakfast on the road with Naans in Delhi..!!

In 1294 the Sultan of Delhi, Alauddin Khilji and his General Malik Kafur crossed Vindhiya hills and Devagiri, waged battles with the Yadava King Ramchand. In the battle Yadava King was defeated and imprisoned. Alauddin Kiliji plundered all the properties of the people and left for Delhi. Due to this historical reason, Saurashtrians left Devagiri and migrated first to Marati Kingdom and then to Vijayanagar Empire. In that way many terms and words of Marati, Konkani and Kannada languages mingled with the Saurashtra language. Examples: Amti (curry), Limbu (Lemon), Angidi(Shop), etc. Vijayanagar was situated near a village called Hampi in the Bellary District then. The first kings of the region were Harisharar and Bukka. Bukka sent delegates to Madurai to save Hindu Dharma and Hindu Kingdom from the destructions of Muslim rulers and established Pandyan King Rule there. When the heirs to the throne of Pandyan Kingdom were not available in 1500 Madurai came under the direct rule of Vijayanagar Empire, which was ...

ECONOMIC SYSTEM OF ISLAM Islam, being a practical Religion has evolved a complete code of life which has successfully fulfilled the requirements of the changing times, Not only in the social but also in the economic field it has given an ideal lead to the people, Of all the beneficial principles propounded by Islam, none are more useful for humanity at large than those governing income and expenditure. The main sources of income to the Islamic Exchequer are Zakat, Ghanimhh, Jizyah (Tithe) and Kharaj. Zakat which literarlly means growth and purity is a tax on Muslim Capital owned beyond a certain minimum. Zakat occupies an important place amongst the(Fhrz) Fundamentals of Islam, the observance of which is binding on Muslims. It is an ordinance (Farz). According to the Holy Prophet of Islam (upon whom be peace), it was to be taken from the rich among them in order to be given to the poor. "This beneofficial tax is called Zakat", writes Aghnides, in Muliammadan theories of Finance "because of its giving lead ...

History of Karnataka: The Vijayanagara Empire The establishment of the famous Vijayanagara Empire in the fourteenth century A. D. constitutes an event of great significance in the history of India. It filled the political vacuum created due to the downfall of the powerful dynasties like the Hoysalas, the Seunas and the Kakatiyas. The Vijayanagara Empire has left a permanent impression of its existence in the fields of religion, literature and administration. The Origin: The credit of the foundation of the Vijayanagara kingdom goes to the initiative taken up by the five sons of Sangama, “a petty Chief of noble traditions, claiming descent in the Yadava lineage”. They were Harihara, Bukka, Kampanna, Marappa and Muddappa. Due to the decisive role played by the first two, only their names are associated with the event. But historians are not unanimous regarding the original home and early affiliations of these brothers. Scholars like Prof. K. A. Nilakanta Sastry, Dr. N. Venkataramanayya and B. Surya Naray ...
Indian Express R- day parade : Bhutan King steps in after Oman Sultan says No In a major diplomatic embarrassment, the Sultan of Oman has turned down New Delhi’s invitation to be the chief guest on Republic Day, forcing India to fall back on the always friendly King of Bhutan to fill in. While much of the blame is being laid at Oman’s door, sources said there was also a “goof-up” at the Indian end because the invitation was finalised after obtaining informal confirmation through diplomatic channels. Officially, Muscat’s position is that Sultan Qaboos bin Said Al Said has prior commitments around January 26 due to which he will not be able to honour the invitation. This came as a surprise to the Indian side, which was under the impression that all ends had been tied up in advance. Sources said the message South Block got from its mission in Muscat was that the Sultan had given his consent. This is routine practice as formal invitations are sent only after an assurance of acceptance is obtained. S ...
The Muslim conquests, down to the 16th century, were for the Hindus a pure struggle of life and death. Entire cities were burnt down and the populations massacred, with hundreds of thousands killed in every campaign, and similar numbers deported as slaves. Every new invader made (often literally) his hills of Hindus skulls. Thus, the conquest of Afghanistan in the year 1000 was followed by the annihilation of the Hindu population; the region is still called the Hindu Kush, i.e. Hindu slaughter. The Bahmani sultans (1347-1480) in central India made it a rule to kill 100,000 captives in a single day, and many more on other occasions. The conquest of the Vijayanagar empire in 1564 left the capital plus large areas of Karnataka depopulated. And so on. According to some calculations, the Indian (subcontinent) population decreased by 80 million between 1000 (conquest of Afghanistan) and 1525 (end of Delhi Sultanate). But the Indian Pagans were far too numerous and never fully surrendered. Against these rebellio ...
This is what this peaceloving mental disease called did to our temples and musslims claim they did nothing so hindu survived. An inscription at the Quwwat Al-Islam Mosque adjacent to Qutb Minar in Delhi states: "This Jamii Masjid built in the months of the year 587 (hijri) by the Amir, the great, the glorious commander of the Army, Qutb-ud-daula wad-din, the amir-ul-umara Aibeg, the slave of the Sultan, may God strengthen his helpers! The materials of 27 idol temples, on each of which 2,000,000 Deliwal coins had been spent were used in the (construction of) this mosque".[25] However as the inscription depicts, the mosque was built from the material remnants of Hindu temples which was destroyed by Muslims. During the reign of Aurangzeb, tens of thousands of temples were desecrated: their facades and interiors were defaced and their murtis (divine images) looted.[17] In many cases, temples were destroyed entirely; in numerous instances mosques were built on their foundations, sometimes using the same stones ...

In 1391 AD the Muslims of Gujarat complained to Nasiruddin Muhammad, the Tughlak Sultan of Delhi, that the local governor, Farhat-ul-Mulk, was practising tolerance towards the Hindus. The Sultan immediately appointed Muzaffar Khan as the new governor. He became independent after the death of the Delhi Sultan and assumed the title of Muzaffar Shah in 1392 AD. Next year he led an expedition to Somnath and sacked the temple which the Hindus had built once again. He killed many Hindus to chastise them for this impudence, and raised a mosque on the site of the ancient temple. The Hindus, however, restarted restoring the temple soon after. In 1401 AD Muzaffar came back with a huge army. He again killed many Hindus, demolished the temple once more, and erected another mosque. Muzaffar was succeeded by his grandson, Ahmad Shah, in 1411 AD. Three years later Ahmad appointed a special dãrogah to destroy all temples throughout Gujarat. In 1415 AD Ahmad invaded Sidhpur where he destroyed the images in Rudramah ...

The history of the area that now constitutes Himachal Pradesh dates back to the time when the Indus valley civilisation flourished between 2250 and 1750 BCE.[12] Tribes such as the Koilis, Halis, Dagis, Dhaugris, Dasa, Khasas, Kinnars and Kirats inhabited the region from pre-historic era. During the Vedic period, several small republics known as "Janapada" existed which were later conquered by the Gupta Empire.[13] After a brief period of supremacy by King Harshavardhana, the region was once again divided into several local powers headed by chieftains, including some Rajput principalities. These kingdoms that enjoyed a large degree of independence and were invaded by Delhi Sultanate a number of times.[12] Mahmud Ghaznavi conquered Kangra at the beginning of the 10th century. Timur and Sikander Lodi also marched through the lower hills of the state and captured a number of forts and fought many battles.[12] Several hill states acknowledged Mughal suzerainty and paid regular tribute to the Mughals.[14] Sans ...

Even after this kind of inhuman activity by *** Pakistanis, our coward (I feel coward would also reply but our so called brave Netas can not) government just wrote a letter and showed its protest. What a bravery! I feel, we are the most coward people in this world who can not even protect our sovereignty. And that *** Pakistanis who always betray us, we talk of peace with them and our peaceful media would run "Aman Ki Asha" and invite them to come and kill our people. There are no words to describe cowardliness of our government. And that US who has been storming Afghanistan and Pakistan since more than 10 years, when it comes to us, it talks of Peace and we follow what US tells us. Shame on us, kick out this Congress government that can not protect our soldiers and answer Pakistan. Pakistan ko "Int ka Jawaab, Patthar se hi dena chahiye". "Laato Ke bhoot baato se nahi Maanate"
Does beheading of Indian soldiers come as a surprise? It has happend numerous times in Indian history during medieval times.
History: The town of Kangra has a chequered past. It has been sacked a number of times because of the wealth accumulated within the Vajreshwari temple. The immense wealth of this temple attracted Mahmud of Ghazni, the famous plunderer from Central Asia. He looted an enormous treasure trove of gold and silver and jewelry from this temple in AD 1009. The Tughlaq rulers of the Delhi Sultanate again plundered it in 1360. However, the town made a good recovery, and during the reign of the Mughal emperor Jahangir in the early 17th century, this temple was paved with plates of pure silver. This area was ruled by local rulers and was later annexed by the British, who established a garrison in Kangra. Accessibility: Air: The nearest airport to reach Kangra is Gaggal airport, placed at distance of 13 kms from Kangra city. Other nearby airports accessible from Kangra are Chandigarh 255 kms, Amritsar 208 kms and Jammu 200 kms. Taxi cabs are available from all these airports to Kangra. The taxi fare varies depends on ...
History of Pune Down the centuries, Pune has been ruled by several dynasties. The earliest evidence found (copper plates of 758 A. D. and of 768 A. D.) reveals that the Rashtrakootas ruled this region then. At that time, Pune was referred to as Punaka Vishaya and Punya Vishaya. Copper plates of 960 A. D. and 963 A. D. refer to it as Punaka Wadi and Punaka Desha. Here Vishaya means region. Later on, the city has been mentioned as Kasabe Pune. The Pune Gazetteer explains the term Pune as Punya - a holy place. In Hindu tradition, a confluence (sangama) of two rivers is sacred. Hence, this city, where there is a confluence of two rivers, is Punyanagari. After the Rashtrakootas, Pune was ruled by the Yadava dynasty. After the fall of this dynasty, it came under Muslim dominance till the middle of the seventeenth century. With the emergence of Chhatrapati Shivaji, who founded the Maratha empire, Pune became known to the Delhi Sultanate. Shivaji, spent his early childhood in Pune at Lal Mahal, a palace built by ...

Lodi (Pashto: لودي sometimes written as Lodhi - لودهي) is a Batani Pashtun tribe mainly found in Afghanistan, Pakistan and India. They were part of a wave of Pashtuns who pushed east into what is today Pakistan & India. Often accompanying the Timurids who conquered South Asia, the Lodis established themselves during the Islamic period as a Muslim ruling class and were valued warriors. Legend has it that the tribe derives from a descendent of Qais Abdur Rashid (the legendary patriarch of all Pashtuns). The term Lodi is said to be a corruption of the Pashto word loy da (meaning big person) Members of this tribe established the Lodi dynasty, which ruled over the Delhi Sultanate and included the prominent ruler Ibrahim Lodi. The"Lodi family name is often linked with the title "Khan" in the form "Khan Lodi" or "Khan-Lodi". Sometimes only the "Khan" or "Lodi" is retained. "Khan" is a title denoting nobility, and does not necessarily mean its bearer is a Lodi or of Lodi extraction. Today, Lodi are mainl ...

Selam Eleykum! Mughals = Ottomans = Turks!!! Mughal is a Corrupted word for Mongols. The Ppl of Mongolia are called as Mongols. Since Genghiz Khan started his conquest from Mongolia, the descandants were called as Mongols. They were all PURE TURK BLOOD! Babur was the descandant of Chengiz Khan, whose grandsons embraced Islam. Thus the last stock of non-muslim Turks also became muslims. History of the Caliphate in the Indian Subcontinent : = Land of Hindi people "-istan" is the suffix in Turish which means " Land of" Clearly the name of current Hindustan (Litrelly means land of hindus) is misnomer as it makes no sense as here are 30% muslims present. Its a land of muslims as well. * Quotes on Islamic History of Al-Hind : : its existence the Delhi Sultanate (1205-1526), remained a legal part of the worldwide Muslim empire functioning under the de jure suzerainty of the Abbasid caliphs. Sultans considered themselves the deputies of the caliph and derived their validity of their administrative and legal autho ...
