I think the questions Paul Henry put to Dean Barker were appalling. What is gained by raking up a past event. Apology needed here, it would have been much nicer to have heard about the team now and future plans
Assisted by some tenacious questioning from TV3 (NZ) host Paul Henry, Dean Barker quite clearly lays much of the blame for ETNZ's America's Cup loss right at the feet of Grant Dalton, and not just as the guy with the reins. Barker blames Dalton for allowing Oracle to take the famous ...

Dean Barker is one of the classiest sportsmen I have ever seen. New Zealand should be incredibly proud of him.
AC34: Spithill and Oracle Team USA pull off the impossible! 25/09/2013 - San Francisco (USA,CA) - 34th America's Cup - Oracle Team USA vs Emirates Team New Zealand, Race Day 15 © ACEA / Photo Gilles Martin-Raget You simply can't script a better sports story: The protagonist (in this hemisphere at least) wrecks his boat less than a year ago, rebuilds both vessel and team only to find themselves in a DEEP scoreboard deficient (eight to one in a best-of-nine series, to be exact), only to rally with an unprecedented eight-bullet winning streak to successfully defend the oldest trophy in international sports. Yeah, right! But that's precisely what happened on San Francisco Bay yesterday as skipper Jimmy Spithill and his crewmates aboard Oracle Team USA scripted sailing's ultimate comeback play. But before we get all punch drunk with star-spangled joy, let's not forget the deep and self-created hole that the team faced. Day after losing day, Spithill faced the media, armed with only the gospel of believing in ...

We're so proud of you Dean Barker and the rest of the team New Zealand crew!
Thank you Dean Barker, James Spithill, all the AC crew, AC multihull designers, sports commentators and yes, Larry Ellison, the country of NZ, Australia and USA for making multihulls so super cool!
My final word on the America's Cup: Team New Zealand sailed it, they sailed there hearts out and we are proud of them for that and they will forever go down in the history books as being the best campaign of this century for our country. Peter Blake would be proud. I hope they come back and do it all again, but then again I wouldn't blame them if they didn't either. As for Oracle, who would really want to contest the cup now. For Oracle to come back with a massive 11 wins from minus 2 points on the board. And then to pull the postponement card because they couldn't win a race against team New Zealand. So what did they do, they put extra equipment into there boat and tuned it up to go faster. What really gets me and Team New Zealand too I bet, Spithill said that he was going to play the cards he was dealt. The bloody smart *** knew right there and then that he was going to kick Team New Zealands butt big time. The big thing here is that he knew he was cheating and he also knew that Team New Zealand couldn ...
prime example of never give in, team America. dean barker.FA MAN! lol
I feel for Dean Barker, but I hope he's back at the helm for the next America's Cup.
Proud to be kiwi - Dean Barker and Team NZ are champions!
Which baller talents did Dean Barker get?
Well, the America's Cup remains in the hands of the defenders, after a remarkable turnaround, and victory for Oracle in the final winner-take-all race. Whatever those guys did to the boat behind the scenes made some serious improvements to boat performance. Credit to the gutsy skipper Jimmy Spithill and his team who looked down and out halfway through. Perhaps the introduction of Ben Ainslie played a part too - the teamwork and strategic performance seemed to go up a notch after his introduction. Forget this choking business, or any claims of cheating prior to the finals, this was a seriously engaging competition, and illustration of sporting spirit and determination of the highest order. Both teams going out each day and putting everything on the line in the pursuit of victory - with no guarantees. It was a phenomenal spectacle, and a credit to both teams. Commiserations to Dean Barker and the Team New Zealand boys who came so close, but couldn't quite finish the job, and bring the cup back to the viaduc ...
Thank you to everyone who, over the last 24 hours, has shown that, like me, you want ETNZ to know just how much what they have done, has meant to you. It's been an emotional day; the enduring images for me will be Dean Barker's ravaged face as they bought Aotearoa home; the grace of his speech at the presentation and his strength in holding things together enough to get through it; Mandy Barker trying to comfort her husband and children; Grant Dalton in the press conference looking spent, wrung out and beaten (but I'm sure that's going to be a short-lived state of affairs) - and so much more. This page is not here to dis anybody else and doesn't pretend to be objective. I'm unashamedly representing one view ... PROUD TO BE KIWI, PROUD TO SUPPORT ETNZ.
Watching dean barker cry broke my heart. Proud of you bro, don't be cry!
No rush to the TV tomorrow morning and I’m still smarting, but my hat is off to Team USA. What an absolutely incredible comeback and an emphatic win, one that was justly earned by the sum of that team’s great many parts – Spithil and crew foremost. As the race series transpired; the other result could only have been the result of an Oracle misadventure. That said, I celebrate Dean Barker and the Team NZ for how they dealt with the irony of that merciless losing streak while all the time maintaining their professionalism, dignity and a commitment that lasted right to the bitter end - and all without unsportsmanlike jibes and absolutely no excuses. They did us all proud and I love that we share the same country. But still… …it is a bugger that we didn’t win the cup.
Wonderful tv journalism by on a sad day. We are all very proud of
Dean Barker - still the man! I am still very proud to support team NZ!
Dean Barker wasn't happy coming 4th w/me on his boat in an Extreme Sailing race in Oman 2 years ago. Now, without my help, he must be raging
Really classy interview with Dean Barker, Stephen Tindall etc by John Campbell tonight, much more effective than stunt questions in pressers
OK...so Dean Barker, so called skipper. I'd like to know what has he ever won as a yachtsman?. He's never won the Americas Cup. Has he won an Olympic medal, won the Sydney/Hobart, Fastnet or any other major yachting race or series?. He was skipper when he lost the America's cup, failed in Barcelona and fails again. I hope he's handing back all the money he's been paid.
Dean Barker we inNew Zealand respect you for being a gentleman and an honest sailor. You are the hero of the America's Cup Race.
Dean Barker is amazing. He should be knighted for his sportsmanship, humility and courage! Proud to be a Kiwi with a guy like that representing us on the world stage.
Dean Barker - top bloke... Just watched him on Campbell and have decided I want to be a Kiwi. Just downloading passport form!
Americas Cup NZ Parliament has paid tribute to Team New Zealand and skipper Dean Barker "on behalf of four and a half million Kiwis" in the House this afternoon. Deputy Prime Minister Bill English moved that the House congratulate Team New Zealand for its efforts in the America's Cup in San Francisco after it lost the finals series to Team USA this morning (NZ time). "To Emirates Team New Zealand, you have made us proud and we have loved every moment of watching your boat Aotearoa literally fly around San Francisco Bay." He said the team had conducted themselves with dignity and professionalism off the water.
We think Dean Barker should join us for some Yoga. proud of your efforts guys!
Dean Barker and the team are heroes in our eyes. Proud as punch of their dignity
We need to take a hard look at what kind of boats we would use going forward ?!!?!! The Best Sailors shouldn't have to loose to Fast boats Or billionaire Tactics!! May have lost the cup to but that's Champion Sailing Dean Barker ! Proud!

Would Love to See Dean as , Sir Dean Barker it has a great ring to it. We here in NZ are all behind you and are incredibly proud of you. Fantastic helmsman Dean Barker you did NZ proud today alongside your team. Larry Ellison with his money may have won because of technology but he did NOT win based on sailing ability. Sailing Home to New Zealand Sir Peter would be Proud. So So Proud of you all. You did win in our Hearts Come on NZ Lets make it Sir Dean Barker
Watching Dean Barker on Campbell Live tonight brought a lump to my throat. It made me remember how gut wrenching it was to lose in 3 local body elections. You feel so totally alone, devastated and wonder what more you could have done. My heart goes out to the Team NZ crew. You did us proud.
Have to just shed a tear watching Campbell Live and seeing him to talk dean barker. Dean barker was so distraught you could see it in his face and hear it in his voice how much he feels he's let everyone down. Yes it would have been nice to bring it home but when you see a man like that you know he put absolutely everything on the line and you can't ask for much more than that.
Dean Barker looks so broken in this piece. Dean. We are proud of you. via
A few weeks ago I started watching the Americas Cup as a somewhat impartial observer. Quickly I was drawn to the integrity and humility of the leaders of TeamNZ, particularly Dean Barker. Win, lose or postponement there was only honest reflection, modesty and respect for the opposition. Hats off to Oracle for their determination, hard work and results. In today's world of big budget corporate sports events they did what was required to get the cup. In an event so incredibly close the result could easily have gone either way. That is sport, and a massive part of what enthrals many of us so much. One thing that TeamNZ has shown is that class and integrity are still alive in professional sport, even if increasingly rare. For many that counts for little, as all that people remember years later is who's name on the cup. For some of us though, character in all circumstances is respected above all else.
I can't believe the generosity and courage of a numb Dean Barker, 2m30s into story.
Thanks, I think. I'd like to buy Dean Barker a beer.
Dean Barker is still a legend. Team United Nations just to classy in design. Good show NZ.
TeamNZ you made us proud. the footage of Dean barker after the race was gut wrenching mate keep your head up TNZ hard
Dean Barker was pure class still taking photos with the crowd after the loss today
Kinda want to give dean barker a hug! Looks like the definition of destroyed :-(
Dean Barker, john key and Grant Dalton. You guys can have a group hug in Mission Bay with the rest of NZ is struggling. …
...One last thing re the AC. I really wanted us to win and seeing Dean Barker crying at the finish was heart-breaking. He was really passionate about what he was doing. You can't begrudge anyone for being passionate. After all, isn't that what we're all trying to achieve in life? To believe and be passionate about something? I am. You're dead if you're not That's enough of my deep and meaningfuls...as you were.
Still my heroes. Dean and team NZ. John Campbell with 'broken' Dean Barker via
Team New Zealand, Grant Dalton, Dean Barker, and everyone involved with the Team, what a massive effort you guys have put in, and if only you knew how you had the country captivated. Team New Zealand are New Zealand Champions. Done us all Very Proud.

Just watched replay. Totally felt skipper Dean Barker's reaction to loss, chin-up!
I hope Dean Barker, Grant Dalton and Ray Davis get a knighthood. They deserve it for what they did
Campbell Live interview of Dean Barker has brought me to tears :(
The victorious crew of Oracle Team USA has been humiliated this morning at a post-match press conference after Emirates Team New Zealand skipper Dean Barker told them that he was unfazed by losing the America’s Cup and they “can have it” because “we didn’t want it anyway” and “yacht racing is dumb.”
Broken seems to be a pretty good description of Dean Barker. Sad:
Dean Barker take a bow, still feel incredibly proud with the teams effort
Dean Barker much respect for the NZ team and yourself. Bevan Wait I read him "your message," and was humbled by it. Someday I'll make it down there mate.
'We didn't want that stupid cup anyway,' says Dean Barker:
Sir Ben Ainslie was quoted after the finish of the AC that he'd love to put together a 'British Cup Team' - as many of this years competitors of the AC have also competed on the Tour in the past, including Dean Barker, Jimmy Spithill and Sir Ben - who would your 'Dream British Team' include...?

If it's still stinging like a wet tea towel to the thigh, take a look at this vid with Dean Barker and Grant...
Dean Barker. We feel your pain and know you will be hurting. But please know this. You have given New Zealand something far more valuable than the America's Cup. You had school children from all over New Zealand watching your every move. Your shining example of how to behave in sporting events whether winning or not and your total professional approach in all circumstances has left an impression on these young minds that will stay there for life. It is very easy to be a good winner. Far harder to be a good loser. Your graciousness in defeat was the greatest lesson you could have possibly given our next generation You are a Hero. So Proud of you and all of Emirates Team New Zealand.
NZ Skipper Dean Barker reportedly seeking asylum in the Ecuadorian embassy in London.
Great job Team NZ. I'm so proud to be a NZ'r. Proud of Dean Barker and team. Proud of NZ'rs in general.
Just watched Campbell Live ...gutted for Dean Barker and the team...
Saw Dean Barker walking the crowd after stage stuff , looking shattered , but still signing and taking photos with complete strangers. What a strong man, can't imagine Jimmy Spitnuts would have done that , good on ya dean and the Boys chins up.
Lets be clear didn't choke. Dean Barker: very few people take such responsibility for their actions, you are a true hero.
Just watching footage of Dean Barker and it's breaking my heart - he posed for photos despite how gutted he was. Outstanding
Dean barker u showed how much your country ment to you today.. No shame u an your crew left it all out there and gave it your best shot against a computer.. Future knighthood will be on it's way!
Dean Barker - my heart goes out to you and your crew! Awesome effort!

Just been to Team NZ base to interview Dean Barker. Quality individual. Uplifting.
Well done Dean Barker and the crew, you did your best guys. That's all we could ask for
To Emirates Team New Zealand this is for you. i know it may not be much but i hope this helps you guys through the tough time you're having. just to let you know you are never alone. there are 4 million other kiwi's that will stand beside you. Kia kaha Dean Barker and the ETNZ crew.
I'm confused, everyone I see is saying welldone we did well???!!! We lead 8- 1 and blue it. Dean barker is fast becoming the most losing skipper ever!!! Bring back Coutts that's our only chance
Made the mistake of listening to talkback after the race...I won't do that again. To all those people out there bagging Dean Barker and TNZ, shame on you, you make me sick. I guarantee no one is more heartbroken than Dean & the lads. They had a faster boat, deal with it and grow up. Well done Team NZ - it was a magnificent effort and most of us are incredibly proud of you :-) Congrats to Oracle and thanks for the thrill of watching one of sports greatest comebacks.
Well, the best that can be said for this day is at least we have all been put out of our collective, national agony! Anyone see Dean Barker on Campbell Live tonight? If we all feel rotten, imagine how he feels.
To dean barker and his boys you boys did your best we are very proud of you and all your hard wrk!! We still love you boys cup or no cup go team nz
After watching the way that Team New Zealand, Dean Barker and the New Zealand public have responded with pride and grace about the loss of the Americas Cup, I am starting to wonder whether losing says so much more about our character than winning.
Really, really proud of our son again. Not only has he had a massive rugby season this year but he's just been named in the Waikato u14 development squad. Your hard work has paid off and now you're being recognised for your efforts. Well done our boy! And in other news...very proud to be a New Zealander and always will be! Dean Barker and Team NZ should be holding their heads up high! Not farkn bad for a little country at the bottom of the world.
Dean barker wat an amazn guy, so humble, disapointn 4 him. & crew but we r so proud of our team nz, well done boyz, & both boats r nz anyway so very proud!!!
Dean Barker you are a true gentleman and today my heart broke for you. Kia Kaha Dean i hope to see you skipper on NZ's next challenge in 4 years
Just catching up on all the 7 sharp/Campbell Live interviews on the Americas Cup... Dean Barker so humbling and gracious - but also Steven Tindall... and Grant Dalton...and so the list goes on.proud to be a kiwi
Watching Campbell Live tonight and I'm in floods of tears for Dean Barker and Team. That's one broken man. I just hope as a nation we can raise him up. He so deserves that.
I don't know much about much and I don't really know what to say.im just feeling really sad for dean barker and all the people that have put so much into trying to win the Americas Cup.it is heartbreaking to come so close and come away with nothing...well not nothing.i think the pride we feel as a nation when we get behind our people taking on the world makes it all the more difficult when we don't do as well as we had hoped.so hold your heads high everyone.the fact that you are hurting only goes to show you have passion, loyalty and patriotism...and that's stuff money cant buy.
Im not an overly emotional guy.but seeing Dean Barker cry after team NZ lost today did get to me a little. He wanted to win badly for himself and our country and got so close. Every one fails at some stage of there life, but the champions pick themselves up every time they fall brush themselves off and go again! Kia kaha my friend! Don't listen to the haters...learn from it and go again, come back stronger than ever you are a Champion!
We LOVE YOU TEAM NZ , Dean Barker you and your team are the man , we cry your tears we hurt with you but we know you are the true WINNERS , blood and sweat you all worked hard, manual beats automatic when it comes to hard work, and you guys are the true sailors when it comes to racing on the sea , KIA KAHA TEAM NZ ox
Well I thought Dean Barker just was like every other sportsman but I take my hat off to him, on the worlds biggest stage he walked the crowd & took photos with anyone that wanted too, looked like a lost man doing it & I'm sure he didn't want too. Did you ever see the All blacks walk the crowd after their final losses in 95, 99,03,07 well you get my point. It shows the true character of the man. Makes me proud to be a Kiwi.
You guys are legends! You have captivated a nation for the last three weeks! Dean Barker please come home holding your head up high! In our eyes you guys are legends and did a nation proud to get us 8 points on the board. Sensational job lads we are all still very Loyal!
Yes I'd really love to welcome home Dean Barker and the ETNZ boys but I'd also really like to be at the airport to 'welcome' home the ten kiwi boat builders who were supposedly paid $250K each to jump on a plane and fly to the States to zoop up the Oracle boat, and another $250K each if Oracle won the cup. I guess in their world, they have 'won'.
This whole bloody country needs to give Dean Barker a big cuddle!!!.And to those un-loyal kiwis who helped a rich yank get his hands on our technology, our sailors, and our Cup, they should be spat out of our country like that other A-hole Russell Coutts!!!
Dean Barker is a true kiwi we can all be proud off. He's a true sportsman
Oh my god I just finished watching Campbell Live - I feel so sorry for Dean Barker, he was one gutted man. I had a tear in my eye, cos I felt so bad for the poor bugger.
Dean Barker and the team : I am so proud of your sportsmanship, your honesty, and your ability. You're winners in my book!!
After watching the news and Campbell Live, my heart is breaking even more for Dean Barker & the ETNZ crew. Chin ups boys you did the country proud
Just watched Campbell Live and dean barker, broken man ,he should hold his head up he did us proud. At he end of the day it's only sport!!!
The Dean Barker interview tonight on TV3 from after the race today - he didn't refuse a photo, a hug or a hand shake from any fan who asked him. You are a consummate professional and my respect for you is immense. Lets all donate $ to keep our team together.
Hey all you patriotic Kiwis. I dont want to upset anyone but i cant share your sympathy for Team NZ. THEY LOST!!! And they spent millions of our dollars to do so. TEAM NZ is a business. If any other business performed like this they would be prosecuted and struck off. So i hope they realize they shouldnt spend any more money. Then maybe NZ can spend the money on the Heath or Education system. Dean Barker needs to get a life and stop his crying. He blew it. This isnt a race where everyone gets a medal for competing and trying hard.
Let's get behind sir dean barker and bring that cup bak to new zealand. You deserve to be knighted as a loyal kiwi. Kia kaha sir dean barker and all the brevas. No complaints, no cheating. THATS KIWI HARD.
Oh golly, I have a huge lump in my throat after watching Campbell Live, and watching Dean Barker, as hes been followed post race by John and the camera!! He was stopped by crowds of people for photos and signatures, and didnt turn down one person who wanted a photo with him!! You could see the pain on his face tho, and he couldnt manage much of a smile for the photos!! He tried tho!! He was interviewed and he was honest, and dejected, and tried to be positive. He looks broken!! :( My heart breaks for him, he has taken this hard. His lovely wife Mandy was interviewed, and she said he and she are so overwhelmed and thankful for the support from back home, and she said Dean will thank them eventually!! Oh my, that lump in my throat is growing!
I have sat through Campbell Live and the interview with Dean Barker with the tears streaming down my face. Dean is a broken man and he needs a big thank you from us for the effort he put into this challenge. I liked the interview with Stephen Tindall who put in so much money, yet was so content with our challenge of the cup. Good on him!
So sad for dean barker! Chin up were all proud of you. Well done your the man!! Good work team nz and it was great to see the country group together and support them!! It certainly felt like we were all apart of something special! Love being a kiwi xxx
Watching Campbell Live, Heart goes out to Dean Barker, you did us proud Team NZ, for those haters just watch Campbell Live and just see how disappointed he is for not coming through!!
Dean Barker nil Russell Coutts a million can see why one of them has a knighthood
Well it's all over, the Auld Mugs stays put in the US. We were out gunned by the speed of their boat. And that's a tuff lump to swallow, especially for Dean Barker, Grant Dalton and the team. But I will congratulate Emirates' Team New Zealand on a darn good effort. Let's face it, our shoe string budget was no match. But hey, we're still the next best sailing Team in world. And I'm bloody proud of that. Well done Team NZ - still proud of you all!! Kia kaha tonu.
Dean Barker and Emirates Team New Zealand second in the America's Cup but first in so many other ways.
its been done to death i know but HUGE respect to dean barker, feeling like he did apparently he didnt turn any autograph or photo down. i wonder how many sportsman can say they have done that!!
How about the content of Dean Barker's character.you are incredible mate...
Heartbreaking watching Dean Barker on Campbell Live. Bloody Americans too much money!
Watching Dean Barker on Campbell Live and it's just gut wrenching. He is still so composed but you can see the deep, deep sadness. Emirates Team New Zealand has an enormous amount to be proud of and I hope they can stay together and continue to do us proud
Aww shot team NZ for your hardwork. I'll take back what I posted before about Dean Barker getting paid out. Lol, it was a moment of frustration. Hehe
Just watching Campbell Live. What an absolute champ Dean Barker is. Love or hate the America's cup, it is always nice to see a sportsman in any code acting with so much grace and compassion considering how devastated he must be.
Dean Barker you are a champion, your country is extremely proud. Hard watching the news tonight :(
while congratulations are in order to Oracle, out of the Americas Cup loss I feel very sorry for Dean Barker who gave it everything and was beaten by money and a better boat. He is probably carrying the weight of a country on his shoulders at the moment but as he has given it all and nearly got there so we should get behind him in his hour of need.
Dean Barker will likely have a holiday now the Cup is over, maybe even head off to Fiji for some R&R ... As long as the concierge doesn't ask him if he'd like to use one of the catamarans for the day ...
So gutted :-( booohoohooo!!! Spithill to kolu kagalu . You're still the best Dean Barker ;-)
Dean Barker and team nz may not be bringing home the cup but boy what entertainment they have given us kiwis. Have loved how it has had the whole country riveted. Well done.
What a gut wrenching day watching Team New Zealand fall just short against Oracle. Dean Barker is the most humbling competitor i've ever witnessed. Incredibly gracious in defeat and never once believed they couldn't win. Am so proud to live in this amazing country - Kia Kaha Aotearoa
I take my hat off to Dean Barker - he got beaten by a better boat and the mighty dollar.
Never been a Dean Barker fan but you and Team NZ did us proud lads. You went up against the mighty machine that is Team Oracle and almost did the impossible. We are all so gutted to have lost but im sure what we are all feeling is NOTHING compared to how you guys are feeling. Stand tall, kia kaha Team NZ! Just hope this isn't the end for Team NZ racing.Anyone know any Arab oil barons?
very vevy proud of you Dean Barker & your sailors you showed heaps of emotional tears 4 your lovely people of New Zealand Dean lift your head up high u still hold your MANA
Dean Barker's record - lost America's Cup in 2003. Unsuccessfully challenged for America's Cup in 2007, Unsuccessfully challenged for America's Cup in 2013...11 race wins and 21 race losses. If that was any other NZ team - It would have been good bye long ago...Can't believe they kept him this long!
team nz should go on the show THE BIGGEST LOSER. Grant Dalton Ray Davies and dean barker should walk around with a big L on there forehead for LOSER.
Proud to be a kiwi go team nz dean barker and crew champion in my eyes
Dean Barker is cool he fought well it is a shame our little country doesn't have the money to beat the cheats
Just wanna say we love you Dean Barker and the team nz . Classical case of pure male grit versus technology . And you guys are the best :)
It's certainly bin the ride of my life.the dust hasn't quite settled but in time I will find it in me to move forward.Dean Barker &Team NZ.You gave me a reason to climb out of bed each morning and fill my heart with pride!
Gotta be impressed by the comeback of OTUSA. Both, improving the boat on the fly with that result and at the same time having a gun in your forehead for a straight week. GRATS! I also empathize deeply with ETNZ, that put up a formidable campaign that in all ways looked unbeatable a week ago. The tears of Dean Barker said it all, while at the helm - all by himself... It's a big game, big emotions, big win and a big loss... Can't wait to the conclusions of how to proceed with the 35th... ___/)_/)_
Dean barker, Ray Davies and all the team Nz boys your legends in my eyes fellas, well done !!!
Dean Barker & Team NZ you are our heroes. To me you are the winning team.
Without the Kiwi inguinity, skills, technology and craftsmanship, Oracle couldn't have won its own cup. After all their boat was made in New Zealand. It's the billions they spent in the last minute that led their boat to the to the touch line first. We may be small fish at the bottom of the world but we made the winning boat not matter who won it. We are proud Kiwis and proud of Dean Barker and his team. In our hearts we have won.
Our hearts go out to the New Zealand team who sailed in the America's Cup and lost. It's all about money. Our team sailed fair and square whilst the Oracle team had all sorts of gadgets to help them. You are our pride, Dean Barker and team. Go Kiwis!

Oracle Beats New Zealand To Keep America's Cup by THE ASSOCIATED PRESS September 25, 2013 9:28 PM SAN FRANCISCO (AP) — The big black cat almost used up its last life at the start, burying its bows in a wave and falling behind a boatload of Kiwis. Of course, it was only fitting in this America's Cup that Oracle Team USA would need to survive near-defeat again. With one last spectacular push in a winner-take-all finale Wednesday, the United States managed to hang onto the Auld Mug in closing out the longest, fastest and, by far, wildest America's Cup ever with one of the greatest comebacks in sports. "I'm going to rank it No. 1. We never gave up," skipper Jimmy Spithill said. Spithill steered Oracle's space-age, 72-foot catamaran to its eighth straight victory, speeding past Dean Barker and Team New Zealand sailing upwind in Race 19 on a San Francisco Bay course bordered by the Golden Gate Bridge, Alcatraz and the Embarcadero. All but defeated a week ago, the 34-year-old Australian and his international c ...
Vicki Morris Just a little note from a Mum...Just watched the presentation of the Americas Cup; PROUD that Dean Barker got up their and congratulated Oracle on racing well - that's because he is a KIWI and has obviously been brought up with manners!.on the other hand Jimmy Spithall didn't mention Team NZ once and it was all about them -he is an AUSSI - a thanks for the great racing wouldn't have been too hard Jimmy! As a mother I know which son I would rather have! PROUD that today it was obvious that the Oracle boat had a pure speed advantage and it wasn't our errors that was losing races but the fact that they have a billionaire backing them who doesn't like to lose - for the amount of money he has spent on the cup he could have made a solid gold mug instead of winning a hollow tin one PROUD that there are so many kiwis involved in the Oracle team - It is designers, shore crew and hardworking kiwis behind the scenes that made them a winning team - and it is bizarre that it is called Team Oracle USA when ...
VIDEO: Dean Barker and Grant Dalton reflect on the -
Dean Barker and Team New Zealand: I believe in you today and in the future. You may of not suceeded today, but there is hope for tomorrow. You all did a dam good job in San Francisco. I am proud of you all. KIA KAHA - STAND TALL AND STAND PROUD. As for you other Kiwi's that were sailing on Oracle, shame on you, for not staying loyal to New Zealand.
Well we lost the race today so the Americas Cup stays in America.our boys did us proud, it was always going to be a hard race when you are up against the vast wealth of Larry Ellison. Well done Dean Barker, Grant Dalton & everybody associated with Emirates Team New Zealand.
Afternoon guys: Here’s a bullet point rundown of what came out of the Team NZ press conference: - Team NZ’s budget was $100million U.S. - Oracle’s budget: $260 million U.S. - Grant Dalton confirms... this is his last America’s Cup regatta. - He also says it’s too early to even think about NZ having another crack... - Tactician Ray Davies admits, the race when Team NZ charged back down wind and then gybed away into the abyss will always haunt him. - Dean Barker admitting Oracle nailed foiling up wind and that was the difference. - Dalton admitting, as the regatta went on Oracle simple “learnt how to sail the boat” - Dalton still adamant the AC72’s are too expensive and need to change for any future regatta. - Barker admits he knew they were in big trouble after being mowed down in race two yesterday. - Dalton reckon he starting feeling terrible a week ago when Oracle started showing major gains up wind... There you go... that’s what they are saying... and no one asked the ‘choking’ q ...
*** Bradley Cooper rumoured to play Dean Barker in Americas Cup movie?
Grant Dalton has said that's him done. He won't be back for another America's Cup. Dean Barker's speech was full of class & dignity - and you can see that he's hurting. These guys, their team mates and families have been thru an incredible few years and have done us proud. Safe travels home Team NZ and most of all ... THANK YOU!!

Congratulations to Oracle Team USA for winning the America's Cup! What a comeback! Along with coming back, I hope the next America's Cup races come back to the San Francisco Bay area! Please, please, please! Great job to Emirates Team New Zealand and Dean Barker. They put up a great fight and were exciting to watch!
Well done Oracle, as always the faster boat has won the Americas Cup. Team New Zealand can stand tall, you threw everything at it and have once again galvanised a nation...18 years ago sir peter blake and team new zealand took the cup away from the americans and we CAN do it again!!! I hope that Grant Dalton and Dean Barker do all they can to fight to keep Team New Zealand alive beyond the now. Well done oracle, what a vision, what an event... the red socks will be washed and put away for now. until next time.
Pinch me! I'm still afraid that I've fallen asleep and it's really still last week, when the Kiwi's were just one win away from taking the America's Cup home to New Zealand. The first team to reach 9 points would take the Cup, and with the American's 2-race penalty due to a weight infraction during the prelims, Oracle-Team USA needed to win 11 races to just garner the required 9 points to successfully defend. This afternoon, on San Francisco Bay, what has to be the greatest comeback in all of sport, came to fruition when Oracle-Team USA crossed the finish 44 seconds ahead of Emirates-Team NZ, winning their 8th race in a row. It's still hard to believe that the scoreboard once read NZ 8, US 1, and now, the final score shows NZ 8, US 9. Hats off to skipper Jimmy Spithill and the entire Oracle-Team USA effort. Plus, a salute to Kiwi skipper Dean Barker and his awesome crew that drove this regatta to 19 full races. Can't wait for the next one.
I'm so sorry Dean.. Not the best, but just the fastest team has won this one.. I cry with you and whole New Zealand.. Lots of love Team New Zealand.. Lots of love kiwis and Dean Barker..

I think the only sincere guy in Team New Zealand is Dean Barker. Thank you Dino.
I'm calling it. USA just too fast. Huge effort from Dean Barker, Grant Dalton and the whole team. Very proud boys.
Oracle USA has put a hex on Team New Zealand. Let's all hope and pray that Dean Barker and Team NZ can pull one out of the bag tomorrow and beat the USA. We know you can do it guys. But even if you don't win, we are so proud of you for socking it to them!
Americas Cup Kiwis would do well to sit back and look at the big picture and realize how well the Team has done to have such a competitive boat and to be running so close in this amazing nail biter. Ever member of the team, including: Grant Dalton, Grant Loretz, Derek Saward, Chris Ward, Rod Waddell, Richard Meacham, Chris McAsey, Winston Macfarlane, Jeremy Lomas, Ray Davies, James Dagg, Adam Beashel, Dean Barker, Tony Rae, Glen Ashby and anyone I may have missed, deserve a huge round of applause for what they have achieved to date and they need to be allowed to go out and absolutely enjoy the final race for the spectacle it is - I just cannot get over the beauty of the boats and their majesty as they glide along on their foils. What both teams have done is given us the maximum number of races possible for us to enjoy this spectacle - thank you to all involved.
Well Oracle changed tactician but I'm afraid its to late to change our skipper. Its every to the whole world that Dean Barker can not make decisions under pressure. Over the last few days he has display some real ametutre decisions that unfortunately has cost us the cup. Already sponsors are questioning any more funding which will spell the end to New Zealand participation in the Americas Cup, perhaps he can redeem him self yet. Even Grant Dalton looked very much under pressure and was struggling on the grinder.Well on the bright side it has been good for our tourism promotions which will help keep me in a job.
Stephen Donald aka Beaver, can you send Dean Barker a snapchat of your jersey that show's your bellybutton? He needs motivation
If Roman Abramovich was in charge of ETNZ then Dean Barker would be sacked.
I can already see it now. The hollywood blockbuster about the greatest comeback in sporting history. It'll be directed by Ron Howard or Clint Eastwood. Who are your picks to play the key roles of James Spithall, Sir Ben Ainslie, Dean Barker, Rod Davies, Russell Coutts and Larry Ellison?
Can we take Russell Coutts knighthood off him and give it to Dean Barker?
Would be a dreadful thing if Team New Zealand blew there lead and let team America retain the cup. Come on Dean Barker and ETNZ stick it to them.
also, Dean Barker has to defeat Darth Vader in a lightsaber duel after their 9th win. Spoiler: it's Russell Coutts.
Is it like liking both Russell Coutts and Dean Barker?
Does anyone remember how hammered Sir Peter Blake & Sir Russell Coutts got when they won in 95? Will Grant Dalton & Dean Barker match them?
No doubt this is the best America's Cup ever! Thanks Russell Coutts! Ben Ainslie Fan Page, Tom Slingsby, James Spithill, Dean Barker, Ray Davies... BIG THANKS for the show!
