SIMPLE BEGINNINGS Disada animation began many years ago in a simple manner. Back in the mid-to late 1950s there were no TV shows on the latest movies or how they were made. No Entertainment Tonight, no making of DVDs (no DVDs) and hardly any books. There was one exception. On many of his weekly TV shows Walt Disney would show how his films were made (a great way to do publicity for each new film) and he especially showed how animation was done. Given Davy Crockett shot a bear when he was only three, I find it very concerning that so many in my own area do not understand their heritage and are blaming gun control on the tradgic event of the young boy shooting his little sister this week.  Six years ago in 2007 a descendant of Davy Crockett killed another bear at age five and there was no national out cry even though he had started training at age 2.  Kids can make mistakes and even with intention to kill.  When my brother was barely 7 years old, a neighborhood boy along with a pack of other boys a little older than my brother cheering him on nearly strangled my brother to death just because he is a Christian.  They would have succeeded too if my mother had not looked out the window and saw it happening and rushed to his rescue and if she had not been a nurse.  Our family never pressed charges because we understood that the child was a child and not fully accountable for his actions until age twelve.  What happened to this two year old gi ...

So yesterday I was watching a documentary on Discovery online yesterday on Davy Crockett. Truth is, that genre of TV has been around a long time. Rod Serling's Twilight Zone comes to mind. Star Trek. Buffy. Even daytime TV got into the act decades ago with Dark Shadows. I read once that Davy Crockett when he was a Congressman made a speech in Congress that should be read everyday now. I don't have the speech but basically someone had proposed funding of a memorial giving tribute to a fallen hero, Crocket said that even though the cause was admirable, it wasn't Congress money to spend on anything that wasn't specifically intended by our Constitution. Day 1 Report log - Arriving at the airport at midday yesterday, my crew (my sister Aimee and her soul mate/my brother-from-another-mother Craig) came to the horrible discovery that our flight to Orlando from Detroit was delayed for 2 1/2 hours! DAVY CROCKET — One of the great things about growing up in the 1950's was all the wonderful role models we had — like Fess Parker, the 6'6" actor who played Davy Crockett on the Wonderful World of Disney every Sunday afternoon. The show was only on the air in 1955-56 but Fess Parker made Davy Crockett movies after that. Here is the famous theme song, which I still find myself singing. Our son David heard me singing it a lot while he was growing up, but I'd substitute "Davy Jenkins" for "Davy Crockett" in the song! I love the images described in the song, especially the reference to Davy Crockett's going to Washington and "patching up the cracks in the Liberty Bell" which probably inspired me a bit when I was in politics.
