Thrifty Chelsea? Mou better believe it at Stamford Bridge Mark Worral for Espn The international break has provided ample time for reflection on the many positives of Chelsea's season so far, and Blues boss Jose Mourinho has been sharing his views with the media on the perceived pros and cons of football's business side. During his first season back at Stamford Bridge, Mourinho started to tweak the squad he inherited, and following a season without silverware, he continued the process in the summer. Remarkably, and for the first time in the Roman Abramovich era, Chelsea's transfer business is making sound economic sense and means they meet UEFA's financial fair play rules. Cynics might argue the club were fortunate in securing large fees for Juan Mata, David Luiz and Romelu Lukaku, who fetched over 100 million pounds between them, but Mourinho indicated in a recent interview the Blues were simply playing ball and balancing the books. "We are making money to be able to spend money," he said. "In every tran ...
David Luiz believes Chelsea will miss him following his move to PSG. He believes the three years he spent at Stamford Bridge were successful with his help being important. Do you Chelsea fans agree?
Despite finishing third in the Premier League last season behind Liverpool and champions Manchester City, Chelsea have been installed as favourites by bookmakers and pundits alike for the forthcoming campaign. The reasoning is relatively easy to understand. Jose Mourinho spent much of his first year back at Stamford Bridge talking about the Blues being a team in transition and lamenting the profligacy of his strikers. So when the 2013-14 campaign concluded without any silverware to add to the collection already gleaming in owner Roman Abramovich's extensive cabinet, the Portuguese moved swiftly to address perceived deficiencies. - Toe Poke: Costa scores stunner, avoids horror injury - Lythell: Chelsea taking shape Club legends Ashley Cole and Frank Lampard were allowed to leave while David Luiz, Romelu Lukaku and Demba Ba were sold and Samuel Eto'o released. Arriving in SW6 came prolific striker Diego Costa, his former Atletico Madrid teammate Filipe Luis, ex-Arsenal and Barcelona midfield playmaker Cesc ...
Jose Mourinho is somehow able to extract huge sums for players he does not even want. Since he returned to Stamford Bridge, five players he thought unworthy of keeping have been offloaded for quite remarkable figures totalling £141m. This is astonishing for Chelsea. PSG are reportedly looking for David Luiz's receipt though. Will Chelsea win any title this upcoming season? Source: Daily Mail
Chelsea have made another enquiry about Atletico Madrid player Joao Miranda, according to the Daily Mail. Having already secured the services of Diego Costa and Filipe Luis, Chelsea have set their sights on the £20m-rated defender as they seek to replace David Luiz, who has moved to Paris Saint Germain. Thibaut Courtois, who has been on loan with the Madrid club, has also moved back to Stamford Bridge this summer.
Real Madrid wonderkid Raphael Varane is demanding a new contract or else he could be forced to leave with Chelsea currently monitoring his situation, Daily Mail reports. Jose Mourinho is believed to be eyeing the French centre-back who he has already worked with during his time with the Spanish giants. He will be looking to add another defender to his ranks after the £50million departure of David Luiz to Paris Saint-Germain just before the start of the World Cup. Varane is currently receiving £25,000-a-week wages and could be looking to triple that amount in order to match those of his Madrid team mates. The 21-year-old’s representatives will meet up with the club board in the near future in order to secure a new deal for the player who is regarded as one of the best young centre-backs in Europe. Should the La Liga giants fail to meet his demands, the defender could very well be on his way to reunite with Mourinho at Stamford Bridge. An official bid will not be happening soon but should the Blues make ...
Chelsea defender Kenneth Omeruo wants to return to Middlesbrough on loan next season. / gettyimages.com Speaking to the Gazette, the Nigeria international said, “My time at Middlesbrough was one of the best experiences I’ve had in football and I enjoyed every moment of my time at the club. “I would like to return to Boro on loan but it’s not in my hands.” The 20-year-old made 14 appearances for the Championship side last season, forming a strong partnership with Ben Gibson at the heart of the defence. article continues below Omeruo has recently praised Gibson in an interview with the FA’s official website, and it seems that despite being a World Cup regular for his country, he would rather remain at Boro than attempt to earn first-team recognition at Chelsea. With Tomas Kalas on loan next season and David Luiz swapping London for Paris, it could be argued that Omeruo will get chances if he remains at Stamford Bridge. Chelsea ready first team clear-out as Five Stars head for Stamford Bridge exit. Jose Mourinho is busy reshaping his squad having brought in Cesc Fabregas, sold David Luiz, and secured a deal for Atletico Madrid striker Diego Costa. And there are five other stars that look destined to leave Stamford Bridge this summer. The arrival of Costa will see Fernando Torres and Demba Ba leave the club, with the former Liverpool ace a target for Spanish side Valencia. Midfielder Marko Marin will also be shown the door, with his former club Wolfsburg readying a £7m bid. The Blues have also slapped a whopping £31m price-tag on Belgian striker Romelu Lukaku. According to reports in Spain and Italy, La Liga champions Atletico and Italian champions Juventus are interested in signing the former Anderlecht star. Hull boss Steve Bruce will pay £5.25m for Chelsea's England left-back Bertrand, having made him his top target after considering moves for Swansea's Neil Taylor, highly-rated young Doncaster left-back James Husba ...

Chelsea have formally opened talks with French club PSG as they look to finally land long-term target Ezequiel Lavezzi. Blues boss Jose Mourinho has been tracking the Argentine for the last two transfer windows and he is now making his move. Lavezzi, currently at the World Cup in Brazil, is open to the idea of leaving PSG and Chelsea will offer him a lucrative contract to switch to Stamford Bridge. According to Le Sport 10, formal negotiations opened with PSG on Friday and a £18million transfer is firmly in the pipeline. The two clubs have already done business this summer, with David Luiz swapping Chelsea for PSG in a £50million deal – and the duo have developed a good relationship. Lavezzi would be an ideal signing for Mourinho as he can play either on the wing or up front and is famed for his work-rate and tactical intelligence.
Mass Exodus: Five players who are set to leave Chelsea this summer MourinhoJose Mourinho’s Chelsea have already been one of the busiest sides this summer in terms of transfer activity, striking deals for Cesc Fabregas and Diego Costa whilst offloading David Luiz to PSG for a princely sum. Chairman Roman Abramovich is keen to avoid punishments imposed by breaking the new Financial Fair Play rules which Manchester City did last season and now face a £50million fine and reduced Champions League squad. Therefore Chelsea will be looking to sell more players before they can finance new signings, with Mourinho prepared to make wholesale changes in order to challenge for the Premier League title next season as reported by the Daily Star. Here at Touchline Talk we run through the five players likely to depart Stamford Bridge this summer for pastures new. Just click on the link below to view them. Chelsea are confident that Luis is keen to join them and line up alongside current team-mate Diego Costa at Stamford Bridge next season. Manager Jose Mourinho has already bolstered his squad by signing Cesc Fabregas from Barcelona for £28.4m and a deal worth up to £35m for Costa is expected to be completed imminently. Chelsea have money to spend following the combined £52m sales of Juan Mata and Kevin De Bruyne in January, and by off-loading David Luiz to Paris Saint-Germain for an initial £40m this summer. Brazil international Luis has been targeted by Mourinho to replace Ashley Cole, who will leave Stamford Bridge on a free transfer when his contract expires this month.
Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho is confident Diego Costa's transfer to Stamford Bridge from Atletico Madrid will be completed soon. The striker has already had a medical with the Premier League side and is expected to join from the Spanish champions for a fee of around £30million. Spain striker Costa, who is currently representing his adopted nation in his homeland of Brazil, scored 36 goals in all competitions last season to help Atletico win La Liga and reach the UEFA Champions League final. And Mourinho is confident Costa will be on the books of the west London club ahead of the new Premier League season. "Costa is a player who I want to have in my team,” he is quoted as saying by Spanish newspaper Marca. “I've asked my club for him and I have total confidence that we're going to achieve it and he will end up signing for Chelsea." Chelsea announced this week the signing of midfielder Cesc Fabregas from Barcelona and have already completed the sale of versatile defender David Luiz to Paris St-Germain. R ...
No Ramires raid! Jose Jose Mourinho is not interested in selling midfielder Ramires and will reject the advances of Real Madrid to keep the Brazil star at Chelsea. Madrid boss Carlo Ancelotti was preparing to raid his former club for the 27-year-old, who he signed in 2010 during his time in charge at Stamford Bridge. Following last month's Champions League triumph over city rivals Atletico, Ancelotti told Madrid president Florentino Perez that he wanted to bring Ramires to the Bernabeu this summer along with Liverpool striker Luis Suarez. But according to reports in Spain, Mourinho will not entertain the possibility of letting Ramires leave the club having decided not to renew the contract of veteran Frank Lampard and sanctioned the £50m sale of David Luiz to PSG. Ramires has been a mainstay in the Chelsea midfield since joining from Benfica for £17m, making 196 appearances for the Blues. The Brazil international, currently preparing for the World Cup, is contracted at Chelsea until 2017 having signed a ...
Chelsea or Juventus? Paul Pogba's future set to be decided after contract offer CHELSEA have suffered a setback in their pursuit of Juventus star Paul Pogba after the Italian outfit insisted they expect the Frenchman to commit to a new deal in the next few weeks. Chelsea are looking light in the middle of the park after losing Frank Lampard on a free transfer, while versatile defender David Luiz is on the brink of joining French champions Paris St-Germain for a whopping £50million. Jose Mourinho is keen to bring a world-class midfielder to Stamford Bridge this summer, and Express Sport revealed last weekend that the Special One wants one of Paul Pogba, Atletico Madrid's Koke or Tottenham's Paulinho to partner Serbian powerhouse Nemanja Matic next season. The former Real Madrid and Inter Milan boss had earmarked Pogba as his preferred choice, with some reports claiming a bid worth up to a staggering £68million was being prepared for the ex-Manchester United starlet. However Serie A toppers Juventus are a ...
Shaggy hair, Brazilian flair, Geezer, Those words in unison conjure up the image of just one man -- David Luiz. The 27yrs-old has become something of an icon because of his distinctive barnet, his silky touch,&the natural way in which he bonds with fans&teammates alike. The flamboyant Luiz is a hugely popular figure among supporters of Chelsea&Brazil, while his joie de vivre has been a sizable influence in the Stamford Bridge dressing room since his arrival from Benfica in 2011. His status is set to rise further next month when the World Cup takes place in his homeland,&should he replicate his performances from last summer’s Confederations Cup,then he will be assured of a permanent place in the hearts of his countrymen. And yet his imminent departure from Chelsea has been met,for the most part, with complete understanding by the club’s followers -- a complete contrast with the initial reaction to the sale of Juan Mata to Man United in January. Chelsea linked with SHOCK move to SACK Jose Mourinho and bring in Diego Simeone CHELSEA are ready to sack Jose Mourinho and replace him with Diego Simeone after the Champions League final. The improbable reports coming out of France suggest that Blues owner Roman Abramovich is unhappy with Mourinho's failure to win any silverware this summer and believes Simeone is the man to take Chelsea forward. Indeed, French publication Le10Sport sensationally suggest that Abramovich now doubts Mourinho's ability to take Chelsea back to the top and that the Russian could swing the axe before the end of the month. Simone was heavily linked with Manchester United job before Louis Van Gaal was appointed but Abramovich believes he has a better chance of convincing the Argentine to make the move to Stamford Bridge. It is suggested that Simeone has a release clause in his contract that has not yet expired which Chelsea will look to exploit. Barcelona are prepared to offer Former Arsenal midfielder Alex Song to Chelsea as part of a bid for David Luiz. The Spanish club are set to battle with Bayern Munich and Paris St-Germain over Luiz, who is expected to be allowed to leave Stamford Bridge. Bayern can use Chelsea's interest in striker Mario Mandzukic as a bargaining tool in their pursuit of Luiz, and Barca will check on whether the Blues want Song, who will leave the Nou Camp this summer and is interested in a return to the Premier League. Barcelona have already offered him to Manchester United and Liverpool, and attempted to generate interest from Tottenham. Like Luiz, Song can play in midfield or defence but it is unclear whether or not Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho would be interested in the 26-year-old. Mourinho has already made Tottenham midfielder Paulinho a target and is primarily ready to sell £30m-rated Luiz to help generate transfer funds, rather than to use him in swap deals. Name: David Luiz Age: 27 Position: Centre back Club: Chelsea Caps [goals]: 34 [0] David Luiz has spent the past seven years in Europe, moving to Benfica in 2007 from Vitoria and then transferring to English side Chelsea in 2011 for a fee in the region of €25 million. In his time at Stamford Bridge, he has helped the club to win the Champions League in 2012 as well as the Europa League the following season. Why has he been selected? Luiz is one of head coach Luiz Felipe Scolari's most trusted options at the back, as well as providing cover if necessary in a defensive midfield capacity, although it would appear that the boss has others in mind there. A bubbly character, he fits the profile of the rest of the squad perfectly. How has he played this season? Bayern Munich planning a massive £25 million swoop on Chelsea May 15, 2014 Pep Guardiola is reportedly attempting a coup against his former employers FC Barcelona. According to reports in the Daily Mail, Bayern Munich have made enquiries with Chelsea over their Brazilian centre back David Luiz. The wild haired defender was all set to leave Stamford Bridge to start a sojourn with the Catalan giants, but Guardiola who is learnt to be a long term admirer of Luiz, could weigh in at the last moment with an offer too good to resist. The one advantage that Barcelona have over the Bavarians however is their ability to offer Luiz a chance to team up with compatriots Dani Alves and Neymar. Luiz is believed to be valued by Chelsea at around £35 million, but Luiz Felipe Scolari has forbidden his players from indulging in any transfer babble, so as to get their undivided attention for his World Cup preparation. David Luiz has won 3 trophies in his 3 years at Chelsea and is a crowd favourite. He has been used spa ...
Bayern Munich are poised to launch a £25million bid for Chelsea defender David Luiz. The 27-year-old is ready to leave Stamford Bridge this summer. Barcelona are understood to be his preferred club but no deal has yet been agreed, with some technical staff at the Nou Camp unsure whether Luiz should be their priority for central defence. Bayern coach Pep Guardiola, however, is keen on the Brazilian. Talks may have to wait until after the World Cup, as Brazil coach Luiz Felipe Scolari does not want his players distracted by transfer negotiations. Barcelona enquired about Luiz last summer and were quoted £35m.
John Terry gets a one year contract extension at stamford bridge while the Brazillian defender David Luiz hopes to move from stamford to bacerona after the World Cup.
Stamford Bridge side look to bring in Sporting Lisbon youngster. Chelsea are looking to push on with efforts to land Sporting Lisbon youngster William Carvalho as Jose Mourinho ready to consider the sale of fan favourite David Luiz. CFC is ready to start talks with the Primeira Liga club after efforts to land AS Roma battler Mehdi Benatia failed to lead to a positive conclusion. Sporting Lisbon will demand a whopping £35m for 22 year old Portuguese international Carvalho, which is a massive fee for a player of relatively little top level experience and may be a price-tag the Blues demand is lowered before they take their interest any further
Match Report Sun 4 May 2014, Stamford Bridge and Norwich City's ambitions at opposite ends of the Barclays Premier League table hang by a thread after a 0-0 draw at Stamford Bridge. On the back of their midweek semi- final defeat by Atletico Madrid in the UEFA Champions League, Chelsea were unable to restore winning ways against their relegation-threatened opponents. Andre Schurrle and David Luiz struck a post and crossbar respectively for the hosts either side of half-time as nerves worked against an engaging spectacle. Jose Mourinho's title hopes will end if Liverpool win at Crystal Palace on Monday, while Manchester City, leaders having beaten Everton 3-2 on Saturday, will restrict them to third position if they win their match in hand against Aston Villa on Wednesday. Norwich ended a run of five straight league defeats but Sunderland's 1-0 triumph at Manchester United means that Neil Adams' side must beat Arsenal on the final weekend and hope that Sunderland, who hold a vastly superior goal difference ...
Barcelona reignite Luiz interest Barcelona have reignited their interest in Chelsea's David Luiz. The Brazilian is set to leave Stamford Bridge this summer.
Chelsea were held to a 0-0 draw by Norwich at Stamford Bridge, where Andre Schurrle and David Luiz hit the woodwork. Both teams needed all three points for very differing reasons, with Chelsea trying to keep the pressure on title rivals Manchester City and Liverpool, and Norwich looking to move...
HOW DO YOU KNOW CHAMPIONS? Champions beat all the top teams! Man U were beaten, so as Tottenham. Arsenal were disgraced 6-0. Man City were beaten home and away. The so-called impressive Liverpool walked ALONE both at Stamford Bridge and Anfield. With a Chelsea Team without Eden Hazard, Petr Čech, Oscar, John Terry, David Luiz, Ramires, Samuel Eto'o; Gary Cahill, Willian and Fernando 9 Torres all sub, yet Liverpool were destroyed at their so-called Anfield. Since last weekend, Liverpool players have been resting and planning for this game, but Chelsea traveled to Spain and played Atletico Madrid on Tuesday, came back and traveled again to Liverpool with Team B and thrashed these title pretenders 2-0 at their home. What more can I say? Liverpool lack all the qualities of champions. You can only find these qualities in Chelsea F.C.!
Jose Mourinho will sacrifice David Luiz to find the funds for a Chelsea summer overhaul. Luiz's insipid display at Selhurst Park on Saturday, when he was hooked at half-time, was the final straw for Mourinho, who will now hope to set up an auction for the Brazilian after the World Cup. Mourinho accepts he has to work within the provisions of Financial Fair Play, meaning a need to raise funds to pay for a what he has described as required "surgical movements in the transfer window". While Chelsea are confident of landing Atletico Madrid's £45million Spain striker Diego Costa, more cash will be needed to help pay for a planned revamp, with Luiz - along with mis-firing Fernando Torres - the two most valuable commodities Mourinho is happy to offload. But despite Luiz's lack of Stamford Bridge future, and awareness of Mourinho's limited faith, the Brazilian will still be entrusted to start against potential next employers Paris St Germain tomorrow. Mourinho's patience with Luiz finally snapped at Selhurst Par ...
CHELSEA UPDATE ETOO OUT FOR TWO WEEKS Jose Mourinho is optimistic that Samuel Eto'o will return to action within the fortnight to bolster Chelsea's Premier League challenge. The Cameroon striker suffered a hamstring injury during Chelsea's 6-0 victory over Arsenal at Stamford Bridge on Saturday. Eto'o scored his 11th goal of the season against Arsenal before being withdrawn, fearing he had a severe injury. He will likely miss next weekend's trip to relegation-threatened Crystal Palace but Mourinho is hopeful the striker will return soon. "Hopefully it's not so big," said Mourinho. "Hopefully it's not a one-month injury, it's 10 to 15 days." Mourinho was happy with Eto'o's replacement, Fernando Torres, and with David Luiz's display in midfield, a position the manager insisted earlier in the season the Brazil defender would not play. "Fernando, without scoring a goal, had a very good performance with great movement for the team," Mourinho said. "I like David in midfield. I like him a lot there."
Arsenal's Kieran Gibbs, centre, vies for the ball with Chelsea's Eden Hazard, left, and David Luiz during the English Premier League soccer match between Chelsea and Arsenal at Stamford Bridge stadium in London, Saturday, March 22, 2014
MOURINHO: FINE MARGINS Posted on: Fri 14 Mar 2014 The Blues will go in search of a third consecutive win at Villa Park tomorrow, but with the match preceding Tuesday's Champions League clash with Galatasaray, Jose Mourinho is keen for his side to take one game at a time. Having conducted his previous two press conferences at Stamford Bridge, today's was held in the familiar surroundings of Cobham, where the Portuguese was greeted by the assembled media. Mourinho reported tomorrow's game comes too soon for injured defenders David Luiz and Ashley Cole, but he may be able to call on the services of Fernando Torres, after the striker limped out of the warm-up ahead of last week's win against Tottenham. 'We will have no David and no Ashley,' he said when asked on the availability of the defensive pair. 'Fernando is much, much better. Maybe I'll take him tomorrow, maybe I won't take him and I'll try everything for Tuesday. It depends on today's training and conversations after the session, but yesterday he look ...

| credits: File copy Chelsea manager, Jose Mourinho, is hoping that Super Eagles midfielder Mikel Obi recovers in time for Wednesday’s UEFA Champions League game away at Turkish side, Galatasaray. Mikel did not feature in Chelsea’s hard earned 1-0 win over Everton on Saturday at Stamford Bridge and the Blues boss says his Nigerian import will face a late fitness test for the match in Istanbul. The Nigerian, if declared fit for the game, will play against former team mate Didier Drogba who now stars for the Turkish side. Mourinho said, “I don’t know if (John Obi) Mikel and David Luiz can recover in time either. “It’s important that at least one of them recovers as we won’t have Nemanja Matic as he is cup-tied. I don’t think we have other problems with players.” Nigeria coach Stephen Keshi is the other manager who is keeping a close watch on the status of the player as the country will take on Mexico in a friendly match on March 5. The match will be played in the United States of America. ...
In shocking developments at Stamford Bridge, the club are planning a raid on their London rivals Tottenham Hotspur for Brazil midfielder Paulinho and defender Vlad Chiriches in a bid believed to be around £35 million. The duo were among the eight players that former manager Andre Villas-Boas brought to White Hart Lane in the summer. However, after the recent sacking of the Portuguese manager, things at the North London club look rather uncertain. Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho will be desperate to sort out the many problems he has been facing this campaign in all areas of the field. The ‘Special One’ has identified box to box midfielder Paulinho to replace the likes of John Obi Mikel, Michael Essien and Frank Lampard who have been erratic this season. Defensively, the Blues have had their worst season yet, keeping only 4 clean sheets in the Premier League. As John Terry nears the end of his career, and David Luiz yet to impress the gaffer, Vlad Chiriches is touted to be the answer to their woes. Howev ...
JOSE MADE CHELSEA'S WIN AT CITY LOOK LIKE CHILD'S PLAY ... HE REALLY IS THE Special One At 2pm on Monday Jose Mourinho walked into a team meeting&told his players that he was planning for the double over Man City. 2 were out - star turn Oscar&John Obi Mikel - from the 0-0 draw with West Ham&2 - Nemanja Matic&David Luiz - were in. They had already beaten them 2-1 at Stamford Bridge on October 27,when Joe Hart's catastrophic mistake in the final minute cost Manuel Pellegrini's team a point. Even Chelsea's players, who had practised something completely different before travelling to Manchester, had been outfoxed. They had travelled north on Sunday believing Willian was the odd man out in a system designed to stop City's getting a grip on this stirring night. No-one in the Chelsea squad really believed that Oscar, their talisman with 9goals this season, could not start a game of this magnitude. They had been sold a dummy&yet the master Mourinho made this look like child's play at the Etihad. He really is the SPE ...
signing of 19-year-old 'Kurt Zouma' could spell the end of John Terry's Stamford Bridge career, according to the Guardian. The 33-year-old is yet to agree on a new contract with the Blues, who are supposedly not offering him as long a deal as he would like, and has been linked with a number of clubs ahead of next summer. This may also throw David Luiz's future into some doubt, with the Brazilian emerging as a long-standing target for Barcelona.
Possible Chelsea Starting Line-Up Against West Ham. Chelsea will take on West Ham on Wednesday Night at the Stamford Bridge, where the Blues will be looking to pick up full three points and keep the pressure on other title challengers. The Blues kept themselves busy in the winter transfer window, as they sold club hero Juan Mata to Manchester United and signed Mohamed Salah from Basel as replacement. However, the Egyptian is unlikely to make his debut against the Hammers.Chelsea are heading into this match on the back of a 1-0 win over Stoke City in the FA Cup, and Mourinho is expected to make few changes from the team that played on Sunday. In the defence, John Terry and Cesar Azpilicueta are expected to return, while David Luiz may retain his place. Nemanja Matic was solid against Stoke City and the Serbian could start tomorrow alongside Ramires, while Frank Lampard could be rested. Andre Schurrle started in the last match in place of Willian, but the German is likely to make way for the Brazilian. Fern ...
6 Jan 16, 2014 8:37:00 AM The Blues have 22 players out on loan with four more likely to follow this month, and the likes of Romelu Lukaku, Thibaut Courtois and Lucas Piazon are making a big impact When Nemanja Matic next runs onto a football pitch in a Chelsea shirt, almost three years, two transfers and about 50 million euros in spent cash after his last appearance, no one will argue it was all part of the plan. Had the Serb not been deemed expendable in the €25 million deal which brought David Luiz to Stamford Bridge from Benfica in January 2011 and inconsequential enough to make the insertion of a buy-back clause seem unnecessary, Roman Abramovich need not have reached so deep into his pockets to acquire the powerful, dominating midfielder Jose Mourinho craved. Yet Matic’s career path, leaving Chelsea to forge his reputation before returning to enjoy his peak years, is one the club fully expects – and indeed hopes – will soon become a road more taken. MATIC RETURNS PROFILE: 'Strong, tireless & ...
Nemanja Matic signs (AGAIN) for Chelsea. The Stamford Bridge club gave him away to Benfica in 2011, along with €25million, in exchange for David Luiz.
Rumored Man Utd target, Nemanja Matic is edging closer to moving back to Chelsea, according to reports in Portugal, in a deal thought to be worth around £21million. L The Benfica midfielderl left Stamford Bridge in 2011 as part of a swap deal that saw David Luiz join the Blues. But O Jogo reports that Matic, now 25, is on the verge of moving back to London and could complete a deal in the next 24 hours. ~Kays
Chelsea expect to complete the £21million signing of Benfica midfielder Nemanja Matic in time for him to make his second debut for the club on Sunday against Manchester United. As Standard Sport revealed last week, Chelsea had to wait until after Benfica’s match against Porto yesterday for negotiations to be finalised. Matic has already set his sights on a return to Stamford Bridge and is likely to travel to London tomorrow to complete the deal. Chelsea have made buying a defensive midfielder one of their priorities and decided to try to re-sign the Serbia international months ago. Matic originally joined the club from MSK Kosice for just £1.5m in 2009 and made only three substitute appearances before being sold to Benfica two years later as part of the £25m deal which saw David Luiz go the other way. His value then had risen to £4m but such has been Matic’s development at Benfica that Chelsea are prepared to hand the Portuguese giants a significant profit to get him back. The 25-year-old has a .. ...
Chelsea 1-0 Swansea City: Hazard strike enough for Mourinho’s Blues The west Londoners took the lead through the Belgian, though struggled to extend their scoreline against a stobborn Swans back-line who rarely threatened the home side Eden Hazard scored the only goal as Chelsea beat Swansea City 1-0 on Thursday to keep up the pressure on their Premier League title rivals. During a first half dominated by the hosts, the Belgium international darting infield before unleashing a powerful drive that deceived goalkeeper Gerhard Tremmel in the 29th minute. Chelsea failed to build on their superiority, though, and were made to work hard for victory after the break, though successfully held on to maintain their record of having dropped just two points at Stamford Bridge this season. Jose Mourinho made five changes to the side that drew 0-0 at Arsenal on Monday night, with David Luiz, Ashley Cole and Juan Mata among those coming into the starting XI and Frank Lampard dropping to the bench Swansea also made a ra ...

All the latest news and views from Stamford Bridge. Two key transfer stories this morning as Express move Chelsea's pursuit of goal- poacher Radamel Falcao on by claiming that AS Monaco want Demba Ba or Fernando Torres in return and Jose Mourinho is ready to raid Internazionale for a towering 25-year-old centre back; a potential replacement defender for David Luiz, perhaps, say The Mirror. SEE ALSO: Chelsea latest: Mou on key to pushing Arsenal, former AM drug appeal The highly-anticipated talks between Roman Abramovich and Monaco owner Dmitri Rybolovlev are yet to take place, but Express claim the meeting is 'set'. article continues below There were a number of lucrative transfers that occurred during the summer market and, even though Falcao has spent less than a half season on the yacht-strewn French Riviera, Rybolovlev believes his nine goal return in 14 Ligue 1 matches coupled with the Colombian's heightened fame and the alleged interest Real Madrid has in him, ensures his valuation is now anywhere b ...
PRE-MATCH BRIEFING: SUNDERLAND V CHELSEA TACTICAL BRIEF Jose Mourinho is wary of the scheduling this week&has already said several times that Sunderland are a better side than the points they have suggest. Under former Stamford Bridge icon Gustavo Poyet,Sunderland have won their last 3games at home in league&cup. With another testing visit to Mark Hughes's Stoke to come on Saturday before the Steaua game a week today,he is certain to mix the starting 11s considerably. Ashley Cole is training&may play in 1 of the league games this week. David Luiz is still not training but could return soon to break up Sunday's goalscoring central defensive partnership of Gary Cahill&John Terry. Fellow Brazilian Oscar will also miss out tonight after injuring his ankle at the weekend. CF Samuel Eto'o has returned from the groin problem suffered vs Basel&could figure this evening. Although Demba Ba earned a rave review as substitute on Sunday. Fernando Torres looked menacing throughout the match vs Southampton despite not s ...
TODAY'S EPL MATCH PREVIEW. SUNDERLAND VS CHELSEA.8:45PM Sunderland welcome Chelsea to the Stadium of Light tonight, hoping to extend their winning streak at home to four games. The Black Cats have had an upturn in form under Former Chelsea player Gus Poyet, though are still five points adrift of safety heading into the midweek round of games. Second-placed Chelsea may be strong favourites to pick up a win, but they've hardly been perfect on the road this season. Away from Stamford Bridge they've won just two of their six league matches, and will be hoping to go the way of Manchester City and fall victim to a Sunderland giantkilling. The hosts will be without defender Carlos Cuéllar, while Keiren Westwood and John O'Shea are both doubtful with injury problems. Chelsea have Marco van Ginkel and Samuel Eto'o sidelined, with David Luiz likely to miss out once again with a knee injury. Sunderland injuries and suspensions Out: Carlos Cuéllar (hip). In doubt: Keiren Westwood (shoulder), John O'Shea (groin) ...
Chelsea v Southampton, 16:10 Two points are all that separate these sides as they meet at Stamford Bridge, with the situation at Chelsea not quite up to scratch and that at Southampton very much above expectations. The wonderful form the away side have maintained has a lot to do with the solidity of their defence and the consistency of selection there, but recent weeks have seen them fail to score enough goals and today they might not be able to break down their hosts, with 19/20 at Coral on only one team scoring. Chelsea striker Samuel Eto'o is out, and although David Luiz is back in training after a knee injury this match has come too soon. Southampton will have Jack Cork and Gaston Ramirez available, which is good for their stuttering attack. Man City v Swansea, 16:10 After the emphatic and relatively effortless way in which they tonked Tottenham it is fair to say Manchester City are a very difficult to side to play against at home, and there is not a manager in the league who will look forward to a vi ...
Fernando Duarte interviews Felipe Scolari. Interesting read. "Brazil's Luiz Felipe Scolari fired by World Cup after Chelsea misery The manager who was shown the door at Stamford Bridge with unfinished business will lead his nation in 2014 on home soil aiming to replicate his 2002 triumph It is four and a half years since Luiz Felipe Scolari left Chelsea but he is keeping a closer eye on the club than ever. He has a World Cup on home soil to prepare for and four players from the London club – Oscar, David Luiz, Ramires and Willian – could well be in his final squad; and then there is the small matter of José Mourinho. Last month the Chelsea manager hit out at Neymar after the Barcelona forward had been involved in an incident that led to Celtic's Scott Brown being sent off. Mourinho called the Brazilian's actions "sad", adding: "I have told the players many times, I hate it [diving]. It is very bad. And the search of a red card for another player is a disgrace." Scolari, as we meet for an exclusive in ...
The five biggest Premier League wins - Manchester City games miss out After City's 7-0 and 6-0 thumpings of Norwich and Tottenham in their last two home games, a look at the highest margins of victory since the league began, also featuring Chelsea, Manchester United and Newcastle. Manuel Pellegrini's Manchester City may be struggling away from home but at the Etihad they are scoring for fun. 13 goals in their last two fixtures is impressive but their margins of victory are still not enough to put them in top five highest winning scorelines. So what makes the list? Chelsea 8-0 Aston Villa (23rd December 2012) – Rafael Benitez’s side saw Christmas come early when they thumped Villa at Stamford Bridge last season. Fernando Torres, David Luiz and Branislav Ivanovic put them three ahead by half-time. Frank Lampard made it four with a Ramires double, Oscar’s penalty and Eden Hazard completing the rout. Lucas Piazon also missed a penalty which would have put them at the top of the list. Chelsea 8-0 Wigan A ...
Chelsea midfielder Willian is eager to make the most of his chance after being recalled to Brazil’s national side. The 25-year-old, whose two previous caps came against Egypt and Gabon, was named in the Selecao’s squad for friendlies against Honduras and Chile in Miami and Toronto in mid-November. The former Anzhi Makhachkala player, who moved to Stamford Bridge in August, has a chance to impress former Blues coach Phil Scolari, now in charge of Brazil, as he assesses his options ahead of next year’s World Cup. “I was always with expectation, hopeful, waiting for an opportunity,” he told UOL. “Thank God it happened at this time and I was very happy.” Willian’s fellow Brazilians at Chelsea – David Luiz, Oscar and Ramires – were delighted to hear that their club team-mate had earned his national call-up papers. “They became very happy when I was called up, they came over, hugged me, told me that this was a happy moment and that I deserved it,” added the Samba star. “We had never re ...
Chelsea teammates turned on David Luiz in the aftermath of defeat at Newcastle United. The Daily Star says the Brazilian centre-back was heavily criticised by team-mates for his seemingly laid-back approach at Newcastle on Saturday. And as a result he will not face Schalke in the Champions League at Stamford Bridge tomorrow. At Newcastle, Luiz pulled out of a challenge on Shola Ameobi. Match of the Day pundit and former England skipper Alan Shearer called it a “cop-out of a tackle from a defender who doesn’t want to get hurt”. Luiz was also dragged out of position for the Magpies’ second goal, as he allowed Vurnon Anita to set up Loic Remy.

Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho admits that Gary Cahill faces a fight to dislodge John Terry and David Luiz in central defence at Stamford Bridge this season.
John Obi Mikel's first English Premier League goal helped end Chelsea's run of four winless games as they beat west London rivals Fulham 2-0 on Saturday. Mikel struck six minutes from fulltime against Fulham with a close-range half-volley after Oscar had opened the scoring early in the second half at Stamford Bridge. The three points took Jose Mourinho's team to the top of the table, after a testing period in which they lost to Bayern Munich in the Uefa Super Cup final and were beaten by Everton and Basle. Mourinho made a big statement with his team selection, with Juan Mata and David Luiz left out of the matchday squad altogether. Fulham, with three ex-Chelsea players in their midfield – Scott Parker, Damien Duff and Steve Sidwell – had the best of the early chances. Duff made ground on the right flank and when the ball broke to Alex Kacaniklic, he crossed for Sidwell to head just over the crossbar. Darren Bent had a clearer opportunity when Pajtim Kasami played him clean through on goal, but his tam ...
DAVID LUIZ: HARD HOME As we prepare for the first of two London derbies in a week, David Luiz says we must make Stamford Bridge a daunting place for away sides to visit if we are to be successful this season. We won our first two Barclays Premier League games against Hull City and Aston Villa last month, but were beaten in the Champions League by Basel on Wednesday, and the Brazilian wants to ensure we avoid a similar result against west London neighbours Fulham this evening. 'Of course, all the big clubs in the world try to show that,' said the 26-year-old. 'We are a big club and we need to show Stamford Bridge is a hard home, that people need to respect it and be afraid of coming here because they are playing against a fantastic team with fantastic players.' After four games without victory, the Brazilian is looking forward to our clash with Martin Jol's side as we look to return to winning ways. 'They're a team I seem to have good moments and memories against, but we know it is a hard derby which will ...

Demba Ba UNDER THREAT OF CHELSEA AXE.. Demba Ba is the latest Chelsea player under threat as Jose Mourinho continues his summer clear-out Ten players have gone so far as the new Stamford Bridge boss clears the decks for new signings. And it could be even more if PSG continue their pursuit of £30million-rated defender David Luiz, while fellow-Brazilian Ramires is also worried about Mourinho’s arrival. Ba’s old club West Ham, who are looking to replace Carlton Cole and want a partner for Andy Carroll, are monitoring his position. TheSenegal striker, 28, who signed for the club in January from Newcastle for £7m while interim boss Rafael Benitez was in charge, says he wants to fight for his place and win trophies at Stamford Bridge. Yet Chelsea have signed German forward Andre Schurrle for £18m from Bayer Leverkusen and are openly chasing Napoli’s Edinson Cavani, Fiorentina’s Stevan Jovetic andHulk at Zenit St Petersburg. Football - Premier League Paper Round: Chelsea quoted £38m for player they owned two years ago Jose Mourinho wants Former Chelsea youngster Nemanja Matic back at Stamford Bridge, but it’s going to cost the Blues. Matic was a youth player at Chelsea earlier in his career, but released as a makeweight for an estimated £4m to Benfica in the 2011 deal which brought defender David Luiz to the club. He had played just two league matches for Chelsea, but having flourished as a playmaker in Portugal, Mourinho now sees the Serbian as a potentially crucial part of his plans, the Daily Star reports. The paper also adds in their exclusive report that Benfica will sell – but only if Chelsea meet their £38m valuation, meaning the decision to release him could yet cost Chelsea £34m. Roman Abramovich, however, has been convinced of the merits of the deal, according to Mourinho, and is prepared to back his new manager to bring Matic home. The Daily Express warns, however, that Monaco are also keen on the midfielde ...

Chelsea Transfer News: Juan Mata, David Luiz and Fernando Torres could all leave Stamford Bridge
IF Mourinho decides to sell David Luiz, would you understand why he did it? He never lost a match at Stamford Bridge, even though he coached Chelsea for more than 3 seasons. He doesn't play beautiful football, but he wins! Chelsea often won with 1-0, 2-1 under Mourinho and we were famous for our amazing defence, but the media called it boring. Cech even broke a record for minutes without conseeding a goal! David Luiz is a great player, but not the best CB if you want stability and safe defending. If Mourinho decides he doesn't want him at CDM, he won't even think about having him at CB. Mourinho wants defenders like JT, Caravalho, Alex and Ivanovic. Defenders that clears the ball away instead of trying to make a nice dribble or long pass which is risky and can end up with a goal for the opposing team. Just my thought. I would totally understand Mou even if I like David Luiz and I can see him as a future Captain. But if we sell him, I won't be sooo suprised either.. -atr
The transfer window is officially open, and the rumours surrounding summer activity at Chelsea are causing quite a stir. Many of them concern signings that would make most fans very happy, such as The Sun's report of Jose Mourinho's long-awaited return and Gazzetta Dello Sport's report (h/t the Daily Mail) that the club is still pursuing Edinson Cavani. However, there is one that will cause a lot of squeaky bums until it is resolved. David Luiz has become a cult hero at Stamford Bridge since signing from Benfica in 2011. His positive attitude and dedication to the cause have seen his stock with the fans rise to stratospheric heights, and there are reports from the Daily Star that Roman Abramovich shares the supporters' sentiments. In normal circumstances, he would be wearing a blue shirt for many years to come. However, this Daily Mail report shows Barcelona have been chasing the defender since March 2012 and they are not yet ready to give up on a deal this summer. As of now, The Sun claims Luiz is "flatt ...

Chelsea Transfer Rumors: Blues Must Keep David Luiz for Long-TermSuccess By Dan Talintyre on May 22, 2013 Chris Brunskill/Getty Images Despite a brilliant season for Chelsea in both attack and defense, David Luiz has been rumored as a possible departure over the upcoming summer transfer window. Luiz , who spent time in both central defense and midfield this year, has been touted by The Daily Mail (h/t ESPN) as a genuine candidate to leave this summer under the potential new reign of Jose Mourinho , who has been constantly linked with the vacant managerial post at Stamford Bridge. According to the Daily Mail , Luiz could be the first casualty of Mourinho 's reign, with the Real Madrid boss not a fan of the 26-year-old's defensive abilities. The Mail reports Spanish giants Barcelona and Real Madrid would consider making a move for Luiz if he becomes available in the summer, with Chelsea looking to make a profit on the £21 million they paid for the Brazil international in 2011. Latest transfer rumours :) (Linzi) Rafael Benítez had better buy himself a new baseball cap sharpish. Forget Napoli, Rafa, because you're going to Stoke, who are eyeing up the Spaniard after parting company with Tony Pulis, everyone's favourite entertainer. Sure, Benítez has spent the past few months working with Eden Hazard and Juan Mata, but could he really turn down the chance to work with Ryan Shotton and Andy Wilkinson? If he does, though, the foolish man, Stoke will turn to Wigan's Roberto Martínez, who will hopefully spend his time trying to turn Robert Huth into a ball-playing centre-half, Glenn Whelan into a playmaker and Cameron Jerome into a False Nine. Although some might say Jerome has already mastered that art. Also on Stoke's radar are Gus Poyet and Mark Hughes. One man who's definitely not off to the Britannia Stadium is José Mourinho, who's close to sealing his move to Chelsea. His arrival at Stamford Bridge could be bad news for David Luiz, with Mourinho not convinced that the Brazil ...

DOUBLE DELIGHT FOR MATA AT AWARDS CEREMONY Juan Mata has been crowned Chelsea Player of the Year for the second successive season. It was a night to remember for the Spaniard as he also picked up the Players' Player of the Year award. The club's annual ceremony, which took place in the Great Hall at Stamford Bridge, was hosted by Ed Chamberlain and Vicky Gomersall from Sky Sports, with five separate prizes handed out. The main award was voted for by supporters on this website, with Frank Lampard, David Luiz and Eden Hazard making up the final four nominations. Mata became only the fourth player to retain the trophy, adding his name to a list containing John Hollins, Ray Wilkins and Frank Lampard, and the 25-year-old was understandably delighted. 'I feel so happy,' he said. 'It's my second season here and winning the trophy two years in a row is amazing for me. I just want to say thank you to all the supporters and all my team-mates.' He went on to pay tribute to our supporters for their backing in last ni ...
BIG MATCH REPORT: Manchester United 0-1 Chelsea What a Mata! And who deserves a big credit?..Man United 0 - Chelsea 1 Chelsea took a mighty stride towards a place in next season's Champions League as Juan Mata's deflected late winner earned victory over 10-man Manchester United. The drabbest of affairs seemed certain to end in a goalless stalemate until Mata's shot flicked off Phil Jones and crept in at the far post. United thought they should have had a free-kick earlier in the move and their frustrations boiled over as Rafael was sent off in the final minute for chopping down David Luiz. The result means victory for Chelsea against Tottenham at Stamford Bridge on Wednesday will seal a top-four spot thanks to their superior goal difference. It was just about a deserved success, although it was not a game that will live long in the memory. Although Unitd boss Sir Alex Ferguson insisted there would be no slackening off even though the title was won a fortnight ago, it was hard not to notice a slackening in ...

Brazil have named their squad for friendlies against Italy and Russia, with Real Madrid's Kaka recalled for both matches. Playmaker Ronaldinho has been left out after disappointing performance in the defeat to England at Wembley and failing to impress domestically in South America. Santos starlet Neymar, Paris Saint-Germain new boy Lucas Moura and Bayern Munich defender Dante are three other names that have made the cut ahead of the March matches. Brazil coach Luiz Felipe Scolari failed to select Kaka for his first squad as coach since his return to the post, but the midfielder could get the chance to prove his worth after impressing for Real in February. The World Cup 2014 hosts travel to Geneva to play Italy on March 21 before taking on Russia at Chelsea's Stamford Bridge four days later. Brazil: Goalkeepers: Julio Cesar (Queens Park Rangers), Diego Cavalieri (Fluminense). Defenders: Daniel Alves (Barcelona), Marcelo (Real Madrid), Filipe Luis (Atletico Madrid), David Luiz (Chelsea), Dede (Vasco da Gama ...
It was the boot of Demba Ba that determined the destination of the points on Saturday, but the striker was more interested in talking about the team around him when he reflected on the win over West Brom. The January signing swept home from close range midway through the first half to give Chelsea a warranted lead, and ultimately a deserved victory at Stamford Bridge. It was his fourth goal since his arrival from Newcastle and after a February without a goal, he was pleased to hit the back of the net with an important strike. The visitors only really put pressure on the Blues goal when time was running out for them to salvage anything, and it was the all-round level of the performance that impressed Ba the most, albeit one in which several other scoring chances were not taken. 'We had a very good game, all together, the whole team,' he said. 'The combinations that we made were very good and yes, we could probably have had more than one goal but on the day it was enough and at this time of year we take it. ...

Premier League ROUND UP Blues beat Baggies, United cruise Chelsea eased the pressure on interim manager Rafael Benitez with a victory at home to West Brom, while Manchester United secured a comfortable win over Norwich thanks to a Shinji Kagawa hat-trick. Rafael Benitez risked angering Chelsea fans midweek by telling them they are "wasting time" jeering him instead of backing the team, but he gave them little reason to moan with a 1-0 triumph over West Brom at Stamford Bridge. A solitary strike from Demba Ba lifted the Blues back above Tottenham in third, boosting their hopes of securing Champions League football. Benitez had been forced to dispute claims of a fall-out with John Terry during the week, but the Chelsea skipper again found himself on the bench alongside Fernando Torres, who made way for Ba. It was the former Newcastle forward who scored the winner from six yards, converting easily after David Luiz nodded Oscar's centre back across goal. It was comfortable thereafter for Chelsea, although mor ...
CAHILL: HEALTHY SITUATION Gary Cahill says there is a confidence in the camp ahead of Thursday night's Europa League 2nd leg with Sparta Prague at Stamford Bridge. We take a 1-goal advantage,&an away goal, into tomorrow night's game against the Czech side,&will be strong favourites to progress into the last 16,but Cahill is taking nothing for granted against a side that caused us a few problems last week. 'You've got to take teams seriously, they're a quality outfit&made it tough for us away from home,' Cahill said. 'We're playing at Stamford Bridge&are always confident but we won't take it lightly, they made it difficult for long periods of that game. In Europe, our home form,we're unbeaten in quite a few games&hopefully it can continue. 'When we play at Stamford Bridge we should always be confident,it's not a place many teams want to come&play.' The game comes just 3days before we visit champions Man City in the Barclays Premier League,&the defender is hopeful that a positive result will see us take moment ...
Russia to face Brazil at Chelsea’s home ground The Russian national football team and Brazil, the World Cup 2014 hosts, will face each other in a friendly game at London’s Stamford Bridge stadium on March 25. “My number one goal as the coach of Russia is to qualify for the World Cup and then to do well in Brazil in 2014,” Fabio Capello, Russia’s coach, told Chelsea’s official website. “There is no better test of how well the Russia team is progressing than to play the five times World Cup winners, Brazil coached by such a respected coach as [Luiz] Felipe Scolari.” “With the match taking place at Stamford Bridge, which is close to the center of London, I hope there will be a big atmosphere with plenty of Russia fans, Brazil fans and other people who like to watch good football,” he added. The fact that three Brazilian internationals – David Luiz, Ramires and Oscar – are currently playing for Chelsea may also help fill the stadium for the encounter. 'The game against Russia will be ...

Rafael Benitez will welcome back four players into his squad for Sunday's game against Brentford at Stamford Bridge, and promises a strong line-up as we pursue a place in the last 16 of the FA Cup. Suspension and ineligibility meant David Luiz and Demba Ba were left behind in London for our Europa League win in Prague on Thursday night, while African champions John Mikel Obi and Victor Moses are available once more after victory with Nigeria on Sunday.
Chelsea have been boosted with the return of Nigeria duo, "Victor Moses" and "John Obi Mikel" ahead of the return leg of the English FA cup tie against Brentford City at Stamford Bridge on sunday. While defender David Luiz and Striker Demba Ba also have shrug off their injury knocks ahead of the clash.

MATCH REPORT: CHELSEA 2 SOUTHAMPTON 2 Summary Chelsea failed to make the most of our game in hand by letting a two-goal half-time lead slip. On a freezing night at Stamford Bridge, it was a performance that never managed to catch fire but after Demba Ba hit his first goal in front of the home fans and Eden Hazard rifled in a second goal, the three points looked secure. But substitute Rickie Lambert was able to head the visitors back into the match soon after the interval, and a powerful finish by Jason Puncheon punctured Chelsea hopes with quarter of an hour left to play. Team news Gary Cahill returned from paternity leave with Branislav Ivanovic the player making way. David Luiz was again in defence and there was just one further change - Oscar coming in for Ryan Bertrand. Frank Lampard and Ramires continued as the two deeper central midfielders. Southampton, as they did in our FA Cup meeting, preferred Jay Rodriguez to Rickie Lambert in attack. Jos Hooiveld replaced injured captain Jose Fonte in defence ...
Benitez bored of Lampard soap opera The Chelsea manager is becoming exasperated by the constant speculation about the midfielder's future, with the 34-year-old set to leave Stamford Bridge at the end of the season. Chelsea manager Rafa Benitez is becoming increasingly frustrated with the speculation surrounding Frank Lampard, insisting his future at the club is "not an issue". The 34-year-old midfielder scored a penalty in the 4-0 win over Stoke to become the club's second-highest goalscorer of all-time, overtaking Kerry Dixon with a total of 194. He now stands just eight goals behind all-time leading scorer Bobby Tambling. However, Benitez preferred to focus on the performance of his team, rather than singling out Lampard for praise, stating that he must keep performing after talking "100 times" on the matter. "It’s not fair to talk about one player," Benitez told reporters. "Frank is doing well but the team is doing a great job. "If you analyzed what we had to do; David Luiz was playing as a midfielde ...
Source: (PA) Wednesday 9 January 2013   Swansea stunned European Champions Chelsea in their English League Cup semi-final at Stamford Bridge to take a two goal advantage back to Wales for the return leg.  Michu scored his 16th goal of the season, and Danny Graham added a late second to put the Swans within touching distance of their first ever major Wembley cup final.   Fernando Torres started lively enough, drifting out to the left flank where he delivered a clever cross to the front post, but Branislav Ivanovic headed over. The Spaniard soon exhibited signs of his recent dip in form, however. He picked the ball up 30 yards out and crept towards goal before firing a wayward shot that cleared the bar by many metres.   The Blues dominated the game, but lacked a killer touch up front. A brilliant flowing move that included touches from Oscar and David Luiz eventually ended up with Ramires in space in the Swansea box but he could only prod weakly at Gerhard Tremmel.  Efforts from Cesar Azpilicueta a ...
Chelsea vs. Queens Park Rangers: Lineups - Source: www.sbnation.com - Wednesday, January 02, 2013 Ross Turnbull , Ryan Bertrand , Victor Moses , Oscar and Marko Marin all start for Chelsea as Rafael Benitez rotates his squad to face Queens Park Rangers at Stamford Bridge. Chelsea hit Villa for eight, United held Chelsea, playing with a swagger missing for much of the season, routed Aston Villa 8-0 on Sunday as Premier League leaders Manchester United wasted the chance to move six points clear after a 1-1 draw at Swansea City. Chelsea striker Fernando Torres began the goal glut after three minutes at Stamford Bridge and David Luiz and Branislav Ivanovic made it 3-0 at the break. Frank Lampard marked his 500th Premier League game and first league start since October with a rasping fourth before Ramires (two), Oscar and Eden Hazard joined the fun as Chelsea, who also missed a penalty, secured a first home league win under interim manager Rafael Benitez to move up to third. United, who led at Swansea through Patrice Evra before being pegged back by league top scorer Michu's 13th goal this season, hold a four-point advantage over Manchester City, who beat Reading 1-0 on Saturday, heading into a busy holiday programme. They have 43 points from 18 games, followed by City on 39 an ...

Should David Luiz Remain In The Chelsea Midfield David Luiz was deployed in a defensive midfield role against Monterrey in Chelsea's 3-1 win over the Mexican side in the Club World Cup semi final. The Brazilian played with skill, style and even had a flamboyant aura around him. Follow My Writer Profile Here. Benitez deployed the Brazilian in such a position in advance for the Capital One Cup quarter-final against Leeds. Ramires and Jon Obi Mikel are both suspended ? whilst Oriol Romeu is out for the majority of the season with a nasty injury, Benitez needed to know if he had an option with David Luiz. Luiz played 60 minutes of the game before being brought off for Frank Lampard. He received a standing ovation from the Chelsea supporters in what was no doubt one of his finest performances for the London club. Free of responsibilities at the back ? the Brazilian was able to express him in a fashion he's been desperate to do so since his arrival at Stamford Bridge. Within five minutes, Luiz had gone past fel ...
Didier Drogba has presented his former team-mates from Chelsea’s Champions League winning side with commemorative rings. The Ivorian icon presented John Terry, David Luiz, Ryan Bertrand, Branislav Ivanovic, Paulo Ferreira, Daniel Sturridge and Ashley Cole with rings similar to those worn by Super Bowl winners, at an event at a London hotel last night. Every member of the victorious Blues squad had been invited, but not all managed to attend for various reasons. The mood at the hotel must have been bitter sweet, considering the fact that Chelsea had just become the first Champions League holders in history to be eliminated from the competition after the group stage. And the Blues have seemed a far less potent force without imposing African legend Drogba to name in their ranks. It is no surprise that the club had hoped to bring the Shanghai Shenhua striker back to Stamford Bridge on loan just for a few months, only for Fifa to pull the plug on their plans. The rings are said to have set Drogba back to the ...

MATCH REPORT: CHELSEA 6 FC NORDSJAELLAND 1 Summary A record Champions League victory, complete with some sparkling football, was not enough to see us through to this competition's knockout stages. The fact Juventus won at Shakhtar Donetsk means we finish third in Group E, and will now take part in the reformatted Europa League for the first time. It renders an impressive display at Stamford Bridge relatively meaningless, though we did for the first time score six in a Champions League fixture, with goals coming from a David Luiz penalty after both sides had already missed from the spot, two from Fernando Torres, who had not scored in a month, and one apiece from Gary Cahill (pictured below), Juan Mata and Oscar, following four goals in 20 second-half minutes after Nordsjaelland had pulled one back immediately from the kick-off. The result brings a first win for Rafael Benitez, but the night will be remembered as the one the previous season's Champions League winners bowed out for the first time at the gro ...
Just having a review of the three penalties awarded at Stamford Bridge in that first half. I'm going harsh on the first one against Gary Cahill, the second one is a clear penalty, and I think the third one which David Luiz actually netted was also very harsh.
And it’s largely been a tale of three penalties so far at Stamford Bridge. Nordsjaelland won the first, but Cech saved fantastically from Stokholm. The second went Chelsea’s way, but Eden Hazard failed to beat Jesper Hansen. Finally, a second spot kick was awarded to the hosts and David Luiz made no mistake, smashing it into the top corner. Fernando Torres then added a second with a smart run in behind the defence, but it remains 0-0 between Shakhtar and Juventus in Ukraine, which means that Chelsea will go out as it stands. 3 penalties in 10 minutes at Stamford Bridge! Stokholm's penalty for Nordsjaelland saved by Cech, Eden Hazard's penalty also saved by the Nordsjaelland keeper. But David Luiz stepped up for the third penalty and scored on 39 mins. Chelsea 1-0 Nordsjaelland!
Torres scores! Only his second in over 900 minutes of football. Hansen looking slightly injured too, recovering well but That wraps up a bizarre first half at Stamford Bridge, which included 3 seemingly dubious penalty decisions, only one of which was scored (David Luiz,38',Torres 45+1')
Premier League, Stamford Bridge - Chelsea 0 Manchester City 0. Rafa Benitez's Chelsea earned a point against champions Manchester City but he was subjected to remarkable abuse from his new supporters as his first game as manager ended in a 0-0 draw at Stamford Bridge. A significant number of disaffected Chelsea fans chanted "f*** off Benitez, you're not welcome here" in the opening minutes as they made their feelings about Roberto Di Matteo's dismissal, and the decision to replace him with the former Liverpool manager, explicitly clear to Roman Abramovich. Other Chelsea supporters held up 'Rafa Out' signs and chanted in support of his predecessor as the Spaniard endured one of the most hostile starts to a managerial reign in recent memory. It was only marginally better on the pitch as Chelsea struggled to create any noteworthy chances against City, with Fernando Torres a constant disappointment after his restoration to the starting XI in Benitez's first team selection. The draw means City sit one point be ...
Chelsea defender David Luiz has urged Colombia striker Radamel Falcao to join him at Stamford Bridge.
David Luiz thinks Atletico Madrid striker Radamel Falcao would be an excellent addition to the Chelsea squad.
Manchester United moved to within a point of leaders Chelsea after beating the Blues 3-2 in a thrilling match at Stamford Bridge. The match was just four minutes old when Wayne Rooney exchanged passes with Ashley Young, before teeing up Robin Van Persie, whose shot came back off a post and rebounded in off David Luiz. United made it 2-0 eight minutes later when Valencia had all time in the world to pick out an unmarked Van Persie who fired the ball past Cech.
Luiz: Chelsea will have gone backwards if they fail to retain Champions League Chelsea defender David Luiz believes it is imperative that the club retain the Champions League this season if they are to maintain their current rate of progress. Roberto Di Matteo's side needed a last-minute winner from Victor Moses to beat Ukrainian champions Shakhtar Donetsk at Stamford Bridge on Wednesday and Luiz believes that anything other than another European triumph will be considered a failure for the club. "If we win the Champions League again this season we will be better. Otherwise this Chelsea team are going to get worse," Luiz told reporters. "Results show that this is a different team now. We are playing differently but we are still going to show what we can do. "Last season our aim was the trophy and we did it. If we do it again, then we'll look at what we did differently." One of the club's summer recruits, Brazilian starlet Oscar, scored a wonderful goal from 45 yards against Shakhtar and the youngster feel ...
What We Learned From The Shakhtar Match : 7.11.2012 94' minute, corner to Chelsea, Juan Mata to take... "Mata's ball in towards MOSES and Chelsea have won it at the death, incredible scenes here at Stamford Bridge!". That was the final play of the night as Chelsea won 3-2 against Shakhtar. An incredible has shown us an array of things. Scorers : Fernando Torres (6') Willian (9', 47') Oscar (40') Moses (94') What We Learned : 1. David Luiz continues to be woeful. 2. Juan Mata continues sensational form. 3. That's what Champions are made of. 4. Mikel-Ramires is the best combination. 5. Torres still not at his best. 1. David Luiz continues to be woeful : Just as I say almost every match, Gary Cahill has to take over as the other centre-beck next to John Terry. Cahill is, to me, more composed and a more skilled player than Luiz. While Luiz charms us with his occasional goal and his character, we must look at Cahill as our main CB after Terry. David Luiz had another poor night and was careless in possession as ...
Chelsea Manager Talking Nonsense November 1, 2012 70 Comments An incorrect match-defining decision was witnessed at Stamford Bridge on Sunday which likely had a huge impact on the result. Manchester United only won the game 3-2 but if Fernando Torres has been sent off for kicking Tom Cleverley in the chest in the first half, when Chelsea were still losing 2-1, who knows how many goals United would have won by… Last night the two teams faced each other again. Whilst Chelsea resorted to playing the likes of Petr Cech, Juan Mata, David Luiz, John Obi Mikel, Oscar, Eden Hazard and Ramires, United played a team of second string players and youth. In fact, the only player to remain from Sunday’s first choice line up was Rafael Da Silva. “We wanted to show that Sunday’s game was really heavily influenced by the officials,” Roberto Di Matteo said after the game. How? By fielding almost your strongest team to scrape a 5-4 victory against United’s fringe players and kids? United took the lead three time ...
Chelsea sensationally avenged their bitter Premier League defeat to Manchester United as they won an nine-goal Capital One Cup thriller 5-4 after extra-time at Stamford Bridge. United looked set to pile on the misery for the European Champions with a 3-2 fourth-round victory three days after ending their 10-year wait for a league win in west London, in the most controversial manner imaginable. But Eden Hazard scored a penalty with the last kick of normal time before Daniel Sturridge and Ramires completed an amazing comeback just 24 hours after Arsenal's astonishing 7-5 win at Reading. Just as in that game, defending was nowhere to be seen as United led three times through Ryan Giggs, Javier Hernandez and Nani and Chelsea hit back with a David Luiz penalty and Gary Cahill header. Giggs also scored an extra-time consolation from the spot for United as the Mark Clattenburg saga was briefly forgotten. The 6,000 United fans, far more than on Sunday, mercilessly taunted their opponents throughout about both Cla ...
90′ + 5 - Penalty Goal - Eden Hazard (Chelsea FC) PENALTY FOR CHELSEA!!! My my... 90′ + 3 - IT'S 3-3!!! Wootton foolishly blundered into Ramires and it's another definite penalty. Just need to cast your mind back to two fixtures since 2009 where twice Martin Atkinson has basically handed the game to Chelsea at Stamford Bridge with dodgy calls, offside rulings against legitimate goals, penalty awards of dubious standing and funnily enough, one goal where there were three reasons it wasn't a goal - it wasn't a foul on Cole that a free-kick was awarded for, Drogba was in an offside position when the assist came his way via John Terry's head and finally, of course he fouled Wes Brown whilst converting the goal. Let us not forget that last year, David Luiz had endeavoured to get himself sent off three times but alas to no avail - he remained on the pitch.
Two goals down inside 12 minutes, the leaders fought their way off the ropes to level through Juan Mata (44) and Ramires (53) and were looking likelier winners until Branislav Ivanovic was sent off on the hour. But a second red card for Fernando Torres meant the end of any genuine attacking ambition, and substitute Javier Hernandez bundled a contentious winner (75) to haul United within a point of the leaders and give them a first league success at Stamford Bridge since 2002. Despite the result there was plenty in Chelsea's performance to reinforce their credentials as real title challengers, though they were handicapped by a haphazard start as United's £24m man Robin Van Persie made one goal and scored another. United's defence was under scrutiny before the game following another porous display against Braga in midweek, but it was a home back four missing John Terry which was exposed during the opening exchanges as Ashley Cole was repeatedly isolated and David Luiz too often in a different district to G ...
Chelsea 2-3 Manchester United: what did we learn from Sunday's eventful match at Stamford Bridge? Aside from the refereeing controversies, we again saw that Chelsea are an extremely able side – dogged by lapses that can cost games. While many will rightly cite the influence of refereeing decisions on the outcome, in truth Chelsea should never have gifted an especially average United side a two-goal cushion so early-on. Yet again, Chelsea fell asleep in the starting blocks: handing the initiative to United. Playing without the ball, Chelsea were always chasing the game in the first half hour. Both early goals were the result of poor cover on the left – and credit must be given to Ashley Cole for apologising for what was one of his worst performances in a blue shirt. As a result of Cole playing too high up-field, David Luiz was often dragged left into a position he cannot cover, and leaving two gaping holes. When the change came, however, it was like the flick of a switch. Chelsea suddenly seemed to pre ...
2 - David Luiz has scored in both of his appearances for Chelsea against United at Stamford Bridge. Frisson.
Brazilian shaggy haired David LUIZ has scored in both of his appearances for against at Stamford Bridge.
Chelsea career Gary Cahill signed for Chelsea in mid-January 2012. He became the fifth current England international in the squad and on moving to Stamford Bridge from Bolton Wanderers, and took the number 24 shirt. He didn't get his first Blues appearances for a couple of weeks as Andre Villas-Boas chose to give him time to acclimatise in west London, but did start the dramatic 3-3 draw with Manchester United and, despite the comeback from the visitors, looked to be showing the early signs of a promising partnership with David Luiz. From that point onwards, Cahill was regularly involved, as knocks to central defenders afforded him opportunities, and he also showed the goalscoring prowess previously on display at former club Bolton and with the England national team, netting two during March. Cahill enjoyed arguably his most impressive game in a Chelsea shirt during the 1-0 Champions League semi-final first leg victory over Barcelona, but having picked up an injury in the return, he missed the last month ...

"I am following from here in Brazil the news about Hulk's probable signing for Chelsea,” Ramires told reporters. “It seems he is coming. I played with him in the Brazilian team, we were on opposing side when I played for Benfica and he would definitely add a lot to the team. “If it was up to me it would already be settled. With the personality that he has, he will come, put on the shirt and start playing. "He will not have any problem adapting. Both me and David Luiz will make him feel at home quickly. I hope it all works out." The former Benfica man also went on to reveal that he has split loyalties ahead of Euro 2012 due to the number of nationalities in the Chelsea dressing room.
