Jose Mourinho TO AXE # EIGHT # CHELSEA It looks as though it will be all change at # Stamford_Bridge this summer as eight of Jose Mourinho’s Chelsea squad are set for the exit doors as the club look to revamp. The West London club has already sold # David Luiz for €50m whilst # Frank Lampard, # Samuel Eto’o and # Ashley Cole’s contracts will expire at the end of June and there are rumours circulating that five more players will be sold in order to generate funds. # Fernando Torres, # Romelu Lukaku, # Petr Cech, # John Obi Mikel and # Ryan Bertrand are all set for the axe and could generate over £70m in transfer funds which could be used to freshen up a squad that needs to change. Although he’s always given his all for the club many fans would be relieved to see Torres, who has been a monumental flop, leave the club and, similarly, the likes of # Mikel has never really been truly appreciated by the majority of the faithful. It’s also a # shame that # Mourinho may not # deem_Bertrand even good ...
I tuned into my copy of the 2012 Champions League Final. You know, the one in which we beat Bayern Munich, in their own backyard, to win the trophy for the first time in our history. But one thing struck me, namely just how much the squad has changed. Take a look for yourselves:- Starting XI v Bayern • Petr CechJose Bosingwa (gone) • Gary Cahill • David Luiz (gone) • Ashley Cole (going) • John Obi MikelFrank Lampard (going) • Juan Mata (gone) • Ryan Bertrand • Salomon Kalou (gone) • Didier Drogba (gone) Subs v Bayern • Ross Turnbull (gone) • Paulo Ferreira (retired) • Michael Essien (gone) • Oriol RomeuFlorent Malouda (gone) • Daniel Sturridge (gone) • Fernando Torres Gone - 9 Retired - 1 Going - 2 Futures in doubt - Bertrand, Romeu, Mikel, Now that is some turnover considering the game was a little over 2 years ago! source : www.chelsea.vitalfootball.co.uk
Team News Southampton Pablo Osvaldo, Victor Wanyama, and Artur Boruc remain sidelined with injury. Morgan Schneiderlin, meanwhile, returns from suspension. Chelsea Marco Van Ginkel and Ryan Bertrand are still out injured, while Frank Lampard and Branislav Ivanovic are doubtful after picking up injuries in the last game versus Liverpool. David Luiz is suspended after being booked in the aforementioned game, but Ramires returns after serving a one-game suspension. Predicted Line-Ups Southampton Mauricio Pochettino will no doubt field as strong a side as he can, and will be pleased that a key player like Morgan Schneiderlin is once again available for selection. Gaston Ramirez will hope to sneak into the lineup after his goal-scoring cameo against Everton. 4-2-3-1: Kelvin Davis; Nathaniel Clyne, Jose Fonte, Dejan Lovren, Luke Shaw; Jack Cork, Morgan Schneiderlin; Adam Lallana, Gaston Ramirez, Jay Rodriguez; Rickie Lambert. Predicted Southampton XI Chelsea David Luiz had to play in midfield in Ramires’ abse ...
What do we do going forward? Well we definitely need to spend and we need to bring in players who fit the Mourinho style of play to bring back the consistency and to re-create the old Chelsea which were world beaters. Then buy who? Sell who? Keep who? This is my take. Goalkeepers: Not really much of a problem. Schwarzer and Hilario are definitely gonna be in their last seasons and I think they will leave at the end of the season. Coutois will return and challenge Cech for the number 1 role while Blackman will continue to blossom under their guidance and the efforts of the coaching team. Out: Schwarzer (out of contract), Hilario (out of contract) In (from Loan): Thibaut Coutois Defenders: I am against renewing Ashley Cole's contract. In fact this may earn me some backlash but I would sell David Luiz to Barcelona if they are still interested. I would also offload Ivanovic if I can. If we can do the above, bring back Van Aanholt and in covering left back we will have Ryan Bertrand. In right back, I will defi ...
THE TEAM THAT DID THE DAMAGE As promised, Jose Mourinho made wholesale changes to the Chelsea team, with only Gary Cahill retaining his place from the side that beat Manchester City a little over 48 hours ago. That meant a second Chelsea start for Mark Schwarzer between the sticks, with Cahill joined by Azpilicueta, David Luiz and Ryan Bertrand at the back. John Mikel Obi and skipper Michael Essien gave an African flavour to the central midfield positions, while Eto'o was chosen to lead the line ahead of an attacking trio of Mata, Willian and Kevin De Bruyne. Arsene Wenger made eight changes from his side's win at Crystal Palace on Saturday, but it was still a strong-looking team with Laurent Koscielny, Jack Wilshere, Aaron Ramsey and Santi Cazorla all selected.
::Who do you want to see start tonight? 'The average age of the Chelsea outfield squad that won 2-0 at Swindon was 25. The Blues' likely goalie tonight, Mark Schwarzer, 41, bumps that up considerably. Since starting in that win Marco Van Ginkel has been ruled out till March. The highest appearance-maker in this competition from the current squad, Frank Lampard (33 appearances, 11 goals), will almost certainly be rested after his hectic recent schedule. There are several players who will hope to lay out their case for more minutes, not least John Mikel Obi, David Luiz, Juan Mata, Kevin De Bruyne, Demba Ba, Michael Essien, Cesar Azpilicueta and Ryan Bertrand.' PRE-MATCH BRIEFING: CHELSEA V Manchester City - TACTICAL BRIEF The second meanest defence in the Barclays Premier League, Chelsea's, faces top scorers Manchester City on Sunday. Both clubs are in their hottest form of the season so far. The Pensioners' attack may find opportunities against a shaky City rearguard but the defence will face a far sterner test than against Schalke. The visitors' attacking resources are among the best and most creative in Europe. There might be a case for the pace, drive and anticipation of David Luiz ahead of Gary Cahill, especially if the Brazilian has learned from his Cardiff error. He also knows how to score against Mancunians. In Germany midweek, Ryan Bertrand remained on the bench as Cesar Azpilicueta, a right-footer, was rewarded for his bright cameo against the Welsh with a start in place of injured Ashley Cole. With Cole now fit, the most senior of the full-backs is expected to return. Mourinho has the luxury of in-form strikers. With Demba Ba likely perhaps to start ...
PRE-MATCH BRIEFING: SWINDON TOWN V CHELSEA TACTICAL BRIEF Cesar Azpilicueta,Ryan Bertrand,&David Luiz have all been announced by Jose Mourinho as starters in tonight's match at the Country Ground, leaving 1 defensive slot up for grabs. The Portuguese also revealed Michael Essien&Juan Mata will play, while Mark Schwarzer is likely to step in to give Petr Cech a rest. Steve Holland has said that 1 youngster may have their chance to be involved too. This was the competition in 2004/05 the Chelsea boss used to turn his new team into winners. While silverware is a familiar friend to the majority of the present squad, the manager will want to progress tonight to provide playing time for most of the less-regular performers. As ever his staff will have conducted a 1st-rate appraisal of the opposition, though they lie 11th on football's 3rd tier,&he will select a side to exploit the weaknesses exposed by scouting. Swindon beat local rivals Bristol City 3-2 on Saturday, maintaining their unbeaten record at the County G ...
HOLLAND: PUSHING FOR CHANGE Assistant first team coach Steve Holland has been speaking about players adapting when a team's style of play undergoes a transition, and has highlighted examples showing this to be a regular requirement from top professionals. Chelsea head to Swindon for our first domestic cup game of the season on Tuesday evening, and Jose Mourinho announced after the Fulham game on Saturday that players who didn't feature then such as Juan Mata, David Luiz, Michael Essien, Ryan Bertrand and Cesar Azpilicueta will play in the Capital One Cup game, and said he hoped Mata's performance would tell him the Spaniard has to play every game. Holland, looking ahead to facing Swindon, confirmed the selection plan is unaltered with no injury concerns, and said there may be the opportunity for one player to be involved who isn't normally, however highlighting the problems Bradford City gave top-flight clubs in the competition last season, and the tough FA Cup match Chelsea had at Brentford before winnin ...
David Luiz, Juan Mata, Ryan Bertrand, Cesar Azpilicueta & Michael Essien will all start against Swindon in the Capital One Cup.
Defence: For the most part, we have seen Branislav Ivanovic and Ashley Cole start in the full back positions. Would you drop either one of those? What about Cesar Azpilicueta and Ryan Bertrand? Who do you feel as part of our strongest eleven, deserves a start? Holding Midfield: For me, this is a key area and if your own opinion is to stick with the 4-2-3-1 formation, what two players would you play there? Would they both have to be defensive minded or would you carry on with one defensive and one more attack minded? If you select a 4-3-3 formation, who would be your main defensive midfielder playing in the middle, deeper than any of the others protecting the back four? What about Michael Essien? For me, one of the outstanding performers in pre season, he hasn't had a single look in so far this season. Would you bring him in? What about Mikel? People moan and complain about him but he is the best defensive minded midfielder we have! What about David Luiz? Would you continue with Rafa's policy of playing hi ...
Check it out-so amazing Here is what each player at Chelsea is earning: Eden Hazard - £185,000 Fernando Torres - £175,000 John Terry - £175,000 Frank Lampard - £140,000 Ashley Cole - £120,000 Petr Cech - £100,000 Gary Cahill - £80,000 David Luiz - £75,000 John Obi Mikel - £75,000 Juan Mata - £67,000 Ramires - £55,000 Oscar - £40,000 Ryan Bertrand - £40,000 Marko Marin - £35,000 Cesar Azpilicueta - £30,000 Victor Moses - £30,000 Branislav Ivanovic - £28,500 Oriol Romeu - £15,000 This is an accurate payroll from an undisclosed source . What does everyone think about these figures then? Who is overpaid, who is underpaid, who is justifying their money and how much more ridiculous will wages get??? Whoa, the rumours were true, Hazard is on crazy money. I just wrote a blog on how I was happy with Hazard’s form, but I think a player at his age who is new to the club should never earn that amount of money. It’s easy to pull your hair out when you look at Torres’ wages too. A reason t ...
David Luiz, Ramirez, John Obi Mikel and Ryan Bertrand must be really very careful.
David Luiz, Ryan Bertrand, Ramires and John Obi Mikel are just one booking away from reaching the Europa League final.
FA CUP QUATERS::: VENUE: OLD TRAFFORD K.O: 4:30 pm GMT Probable line up for Chelsea: Peter Cech is the No.1 and in front of him in central-defense, any two of David Luiz, Gary Cahill, John Terry, or Branislav Ivanovic are possible. At right-back, the latter is in contention to start as is Cesar Azpilicueta. At left-back, Ashely Cole is expected to start. In Benitez's 4-2-3-1, two of Frank Lampard, John Obi Mikel, Ramires or Luiz are anticipated. In the attacking midfield line, playmakers Juan Mata, Oscar, and Eden Hazard are usually the first three considered but two of them could be complimented by the more defensively stable Ramires or Ryan Bertrand in the wide areas. Victor Moses is also a more direct option out wide. Up front, Demba Ba is expected to be chosen over Fernando Torres.

Rafa Benitez is likely to make sweeping changes to the starting XI he sent out for a midweek FA Cup fifth round victory over Middlesbrough when Chelsea return to Premier League action against West Brom. Paulo Ferreira, Ryan Bertrand, Nathan Ake, Victor Moses and Yossi Benayoun are likely to be among those to make way, with Ashley Cole, David Luiz, Frank Lampard, Eden Hazard and Demba Ba pushing for recalls.
Dear collectors, customers and fellow sellers... I am not sure who knows what with recent SoccerStarz developments over the past few days but this is what I believe to be the plan having been in conversation with them recently. CHELSEA BLUE BASES There will be 9 blue base Champions League blisters available. There will be no more than 750 blisters produced per figure. This means the 23-man pack is now limited to 4250 units. Paulo Ferreira, Frank Lampard, David Luiz, Fernando Torres, Gary Cahill, Obi Mikel, Oriol Romeu, Ross Turnbull, Ryan Bertrand. This may be the reason why Bosingwa has a blue base although I would imagine there are a lot more than 750 made! The other 13 players (14 inc. Bosingwa) will be detained by SoccerStarz and used in the future in some way to be decided. ARSENAL NEW SQUAD NUMBERS Wilshere will NOT be available in blister pack but will be released in blind sachets. Szcesny will be released within the next month (possibly in limited numbers). MORE INFO Hugh from SoccerStarz has told ...
Stats; Tony Mowbray will be without defenders Justin Hoyte and Stuart Parnaby, meaning Andre Bikey should start at right-back with Stephen McManus alongside Rhys Williams at centre-back. Josh McEachran, currently on-loan from Chelsea, is ineligible to play against his parent club. Up front Lukas Jutkiewicz (ankle) is a doubt for the game, and so Curtis Main is on standby to support Scott McDonald. Meanwhile, Rafa Benitez should continue with Petr Cech in goal ahead of second-choice keeper Ross Turnbull, despite his tendency to rotate goalkeepers in the cup. Ryan Bertrand is likely to replace Ashley Cole at left-back, though, with John Terry set to partner David Luiz at centre-back and Branislav Ivanovic to start at right-back after Benitez ruled out Gary Cahill (virus) and Cesar Azpilicueta (leg). Juan Mata is likely to be rested for the tie to give Oscar a chance whilst Fernando Torres should also return to Benitez's team. Source: Goal.com
John Terry has to make do with a place on the substitutes' bench despite being deemed fit after missing the 4-1 victory over Wigan with a knee injury. Rafael Benitez makes three changes to the team which beat the Latics, with Ryan Bertrand, Marko Marin and Juan Mata replacing Ashley Cole, David Luiz (suspended) and Oscar.
MATCH REPORT: CHELSEA 2 SOUTHAMPTON 2 Summary Chelsea failed to make the most of our game in hand by letting a two-goal half-time lead slip. On a freezing night at Stamford Bridge, it was a performance that never managed to catch fire but after Demba Ba hit his first goal in front of the home fans and Eden Hazard rifled in a second goal, the three points looked secure. But substitute Rickie Lambert was able to head the visitors back into the match soon after the interval, and a powerful finish by Jason Puncheon punctured Chelsea hopes with quarter of an hour left to play. Team news Gary Cahill returned from paternity leave with Branislav Ivanovic the player making way. David Luiz was again in defence and there was just one further change - Oscar coming in for Ryan Bertrand. Frank Lampard and Ramires continued as the two deeper central midfielders. Southampton, as they did in our FA Cup meeting, preferred Jay Rodriguez to Rickie Lambert in attack. Jos Hooiveld replaced injured captain Jose Fonte in defence ...
Chelsea vs. Queens Park Rangers: Lineups - Source: www.sbnation.com - Wednesday, January 02, 2013 Ross Turnbull , Ryan Bertrand , Victor Moses , Oscar and Marko Marin all start for Chelsea as Rafael Benitez rotates his squad to face Queens Park Rangers at Stamford Bridge. Cech is believed to be carrying an injury, but the other players are all brought in as normal squad rotation for the Blues. David Luiz also starts in his midfield role, while Frank Lampar...
Chelsea make three changes from the team that beat Leeds in the Capital One Cup with David Luiz pushed up into midfield at the expense of Oscar. Gary Cahill comes into central defence for Luiz as Ashley Cole and Eden Hazard replace Ryan Bertrand and Marko Marin respectively. Villa make only one change to the matchday squad of 18 that beat Liverpool last time out. Darren Bent is still absent as Stephen Ireland replaces Charles N'Zogbia on the bench. SSE
So it is Leeds today in our Capital One clash, and the biggest turmoil is that we are out of defensive midfielders, Mikel and Ramires both are suspended, while Oriol Romeu is out injured. It was understood that Benitez was going to play David Luiz in the midfield as a defensive midfielder, but we can rule that out now as Gary Cahill is suspended too for his red card in the Club World Cup final, while John Terry is injured, so Luiz naturally will be partnering Ivanovic. Any ideas as to who should play as out double pivot in midfield?
Didier Drogba has presented his former team-mates from Chelsea’s Champions League winning side with commemorative rings. The Ivorian icon presented John Terry, David Luiz, Ryan Bertrand, Branislav Ivanovic, Paulo Ferreira, Daniel Sturridge and Ashley Cole with rings similar to those worn by Super Bowl winners, at an event at a London hotel last night. Every member of the victorious Blues squad had been invited, but not all managed to attend for various reasons. The mood at the hotel must have been bitter sweet, considering the fact that Chelsea had just become the first Champions League holders in history to be eliminated from the competition after the group stage. And the Blues have seemed a far less potent force without imposing African legend Drogba to name in their ranks. It is no surprise that the club had hoped to bring the Shanghai Shenhua striker back to Stamford Bridge on loan just for a few months, only for Fifa to pull the plug on their plans. The rings are said to have set Drogba back to the ...
Up Chelsea, Chelsea go into the game with Branislav Ivanovic playing at centre-back, as John Terry still recovers from his injury alongside Frank Lampard and Daniel Sturridge who also miss out. Oriol Romeu drops to the bench with Ryan Bertrand and Oscar, whilst David Luiz misses out completely. They make way for Gary Cahill, Jon Obi Mikel, Juan Mata and Victor Moses. The champions of Europe go to Upton Park still looking for their first win under Rafa Benitez, though despite failing to score since the Spaniard took over from Roberto Di Matteo, Chelsea are also yet to concede.
When Chelsea have 65% of the game I expect them to win not lose. That said if you can't defend crosses and also can't finish when you're in front of goal you ain't going to win games , which means you can win titles. David Luiz is no Centre Half and we surely can't let Ashley Cole leave as Ryan Bertrand just ain't go enough at Left Back. Rant over, I'm off down the beach
What we learned from yesterday's match 1.David Luiz and Ryan Bertrand were woeful. 2.MAZARCAR continues their sensational form. 3.RAMIKEL is the best combination. 4.Torres stil not at his best. 5.Moses is the new rave of the moment.
With JT, David Luiz and Ashley Cole unavailable for selection. We'll get to see a changed back line. With the CB pairing of Ivanovic and Cahill. And the side backs being occupied by Ryan Bertrand and Cesar Azpilicueta. Both of them had a good game against United in midweek. welkam bak ivanovic & torres.
HEADLINE : Javier Hernandez was Manchester United's match-winner.*Chelsea 2:3 Manchester United Roberto Di Matteo and Sir Alex Ferguson had to be separated as Manchester United ended their 10-year wait for a Premier League win at Chelsea with a controversial 3-2 success. David Luiz will not be involved in the 2012 Olympics having not made the Brazil squad after it was reduced to 18 players. The 25-year-old was named in an initial list of 35 players at the end of last month but is not one of his nation's three over-age players involved in what is largely an Under-23 tournament. Daniel Sturridge and Ryan Bertrand are the two Chelsea players definitely part of an Olympic squad (TeamGB) with Juan Mata and Oriol Romeu in Spain's 22-man squad which is yet to be cut down to the final 18.
Oriol Romeu, Juan Mata, Ryan Bertrand make sure the places for 2012 GB Olympics, Daniel Sturridge doubtful, and David Luiz ruled out.
BBC to show Team GB v Brazil on Friday 20th July - Olympics warm-up featuring Ryan Bertrand and David Luiz (and maybe Danny Sturridge)
And Ryan Bertrand and Danny Sturridge for England! Never mind David Luiz might go for Brazil.
Petr Cech Top of the Match 207 3 7.0 Made a superb save to keep out Robben's penalty in extra-time. Slightly suspect for the Bayern goal but made some crucial stops throughout the game. Ashley Cole 112 11 7.0 So solid for much of the game - making one superb block - but got caught ball-watching for Bayern's first goal. Offered virtually nothing going forward. David Luiz 82 9 6.5 The Portuguese defender was generally strong in his reading of the game and timing of challenges, but slightly caught out for Muller's goal. José Bosingwa 58 34 5.0 Struggled when one-on-one up against Ribery but was not as exposed as he might have been. Gary Cahill 78 16 5.5 The England defender showed good anticipation but seemed to be a little flat-footed and off the pace, especially in the second half when he appeared to be carrying an injury. Ryan Bertrand 56 58 4.5 The youngster surprisingly started the game in a left-wing position but looked overwhelmed by the occasion and seemed uncomfortable on the ball. Frank Lampard 88 ...
50′ The Allianz Arena (or at least the parts of it that are on my screen) is now bathed in flare smoke. It adds to the atmosphere. Tense and moody. 49′ In the build-up to that Kroos effort, Arjen Robben had perhaps had an even better chance when the play was more stretched, but the Dutchman dallied too long. 48′ Some decent battling work from Ryan Bertrand keeps Chelsea in possession in the Bayern half as they pass it around the midfield, waiting and hoping for a chance. But it's gone soon enough and the Germans come streaming back - Toni Kroos takes a swipe and David Luiz heads it over the top! 46′ The hosts pick up where they left off, with Franck Ribery pelting down the left wing and angling inside, but he puts it out. No changes, by the way. 46′ Bayern kick the second half off - getting nervy at home?
Roberto Di Matteo is "very hopeful" Gary Cahill and David Luiz will be fit for tonight's Champions League final against Bayern Munich, live on Sky Sports HD1/3D. Luiz has not played since 15 April because of a damaged hamstring, while Cahill suffered a similar injury during the second leg of the Blues' semi-final against Barcelona. But both have trained this week and are expected to form a centre-back pairing in the absence of suspended John Terry and Branislav Ivanovic. But boss Roberto Di Matteo has called untried teenagers Tood Kane, 18, and Nathaniel Chalobah, 17, into his squad "just in case". Jose Bosingwa and Paulo Ferreira vie for the right-back role, while up front Didier Drogba is favourite to start ahead of Fernando Torres. Midfielders Ramires and Raul Meireles are Chelsea's other banned players and another potential starter, Florent Malouda, has a hamstring niggle and is a doubt. Frank Lampard and John Obi Mikel are certain to play, while Michael Essien, Oriol Romeu and even Ryan Bertrand are ...
