Chelsea’s David Luiz must do this to emulate John Terry, claims Martin Keown
The only two David's to score on St. David's Day in Premier League history - David Dunn (2003) and David Luiz (2011).
David Luiz has insisted that Paris Saint-Germain are not afraid of Real Madrid or anyone else who they might be drawn against in the last 16 of the Champions League. A 3-1 defeat to Barcelona on Wednesday ensured that Laurent Blanc's men finished second in Group F, meaning they are not seeded for the next stage of the competition. As a result, their potential opponents in the last 16 are holders Real Madrid, last season's runners-up Atletico Madrid, Bundesliga champions Bayern Munich, Premier League table-toppers Chelsea, Borussia Dortmund and Porto. David Luiz does not fear being drawn against one of the European heavyweights and insists that PSG must be prepared to go toe-to-toe with the best if they want to win their first-ever Champions League title in 2014-15. "We could play against Real Madrid or we could play against another team - either way, all that qualified are great teams with great squads of players and we are prepared to face them all," the centre-back, 27, told Goal after the clash at Camp ...
Chelsea To Announce 20 Million Pound Profit by DAVID on NOVEMBER 13, 2014 Chelsea are set to announce profits of almost £20m and a record turnover of around £325m when the Premier League leaders release their annual financial results. The current Premier League leaders will report a turnover of £325m for the year up to June 30, and will comfortably pass UEFA’s Financial Fair Play (FFP) test thanks to the funds brought in by the sale of Juan Mata and David Luiz, plus their share of the new £1bn television deal. Chelsea ran up losses of more than £600m during Roman Abramovich’s first 10 years of ownership, but this is a huge financial step forward for Chelsea, as it shows that they can compete with the big clubs in Europe both on and off the pitch. The key to meeting Uefa’s Financial Fair Play rules for Chelsea has been the club’s recent activity in the transfer market. In 2013-14, Chelsea made a profit of 47m euros, despite adding Willian, Nemanja Matic and André Schürrle to the squad, due t ...
5 REASONS WHY CHELSEA WILL WIN THE PREMIER LEAGUE THIS SEASON 1) A NEAR-PERFECT TRANSFER WINDOW: Most people would agree that among all the Premier League clubs, Chelsea probably had the best transfer window. They did their business early, and addressed every area that wasn’t good enough last season. A central midfielder and a centre-forward were needed, and in came Cesc Fabregas and Diego Costa. These deals were completed even before the World Cup started. Atletico Madrid left-back Filipe Luis also came in for the outgoing Ashley Cole. Despite spending over £85 million, Chelsea’s net spending was negligible, as David Luiz and Romelu Lukaku were sold for £50 million and £28 million respectively. 2) STUNNING STARTS BY THE NEWCOMERS: A big advantage of bringing in players so early on in the transfer window was that they had time to gel in with the rest of the squad. Fabregas and Costa participated extensively in pre-season and found their feet within the Chelsea side. Consequently, their start to co ...
Despite finishing third in the Premier League last season behind Liverpool and champions Manchester City, Chelsea have been installed as favourites by bookmakers and pundits alike for the forthcoming campaign. The reasoning is relatively easy to understand. Jose Mourinho spent much of his first year back at Stamford Bridge talking about the Blues being a team in transition and lamenting the profligacy of his strikers. So when the 2013-14 campaign concluded without any silverware to add to the collection already gleaming in owner Roman Abramovich's extensive cabinet, the Portuguese moved swiftly to address perceived deficiencies. - Toe Poke: Costa scores stunner, avoids horror injury - Lythell: Chelsea taking shape Club legends Ashley Cole and Frank Lampard were allowed to leave while David Luiz, Romelu Lukaku and Demba Ba were sold and Samuel Eto'o released. Arriving in SW6 came prolific striker Diego Costa, his former Atletico Madrid teammate Filipe Luis, ex-Arsenal and Barcelona midfield playmaker Cesc ...
FOR TRUE FANS,DONT MISS ON THIS ARTICLE,WE ARE THE STRONGEST TEAM... Chelsea are currently edging rivals Manchester City and Arsenal, while are good strides ahead of Liverpool and Manchester United. Some really sharp transfer business by boss Jose Mourinho saw Chelsea instantly fill all the voids in the team. The manager even claimed that he is done for the transfer window. Chelsea still have a lot of budget to spend after the marquee sale of maverick defender David Luiz, so we cannot solely rely on Mourinho’s words saying that there won’t be any more signings. Club legend Didier Drogba re-joined the club which now looks to have the quality on and off the pitch as well. Amazing Squad Depth Chelsea have a very deep squad. They have two first team players for each position on the pitch apart from a single Centre Back position. That is an absolutely strong position to be in, as they match Manchester City on the quality of the substitute players! If we establish a 5 man midfield consisting of Matic, Fabre ...
Mass Exodus: Five players who are set to leave Chelsea this summer MourinhoJose Mourinho’s Chelsea have already been one of the busiest sides this summer in terms of transfer activity, striking deals for Cesc Fabregas and Diego Costa whilst offloading David Luiz to PSG for a princely sum. Chairman Roman Abramovich is keen to avoid punishments imposed by breaking the new Financial Fair Play rules which Manchester City did last season and now face a £50million fine and reduced Champions League squad. Therefore Chelsea will be looking to sell more players before they can finance new signings, with Mourinho prepared to make wholesale changes in order to challenge for the Premier League title next season as reported by the Daily Star. Here at Touchline Talk we run through the five players likely to depart Stamford Bridge this summer for pastures new. Just click on the link below to view them. Jose Mourinho prepares to sell FIVE from Stamford Bridge Fernando Torres, Romelu Lukaku, Petr Cech, John Obi Mikel and Ryan Bertrand all face axe Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho is planning on selling five more players from the current squad in order to raise roughly £75million. The Blues boss was very clear throughout last season that he will make drastic changes this Summer so that he can build his own team and take them to Premier League glory once again, and after already selling David Luiz for around £40m, the sales are not stopping there. It's reported that there are a further five players in-line to be sold by Mourinho, and he is hopeful that they can raise around £75m so that he can reinvest that cash back into the club by making more big-name signings. The club have already spent around £59m on duo Diego Costa and Cesc Fabregas, who have both completed their moves from La Liga, and it's believed a £21m deal is close to being agreed with Atletico Madrid for Filipe Luis, which will take the spen ...
Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho is confident Diego Costa's transfer to Stamford Bridge from Atletico Madrid will be completed soon. The striker has already had a medical with the Premier League side and is expected to join from the Spanish champions for a fee of around £30million. Spain striker Costa, who is currently representing his adopted nation in his homeland of Brazil, scored 36 goals in all competitions last season to help Atletico win La Liga and reach the UEFA Champions League final. And Mourinho is confident Costa will be on the books of the West London club ahead of the new Premier League season. "Costa is a player who I want to have in my team,” he is quoted as saying by Spanish newspaper Marca. “I've asked my club for him and I have total confidence that we're going to achieve it and he will end up signing for Chelsea." Chelsea announced this week the signing of midfielder Cesc Fabregas from Barcelona and have already completed the sale of versatile defender David Luiz to Paris St-Germain. R ...

YOU DON'T BELIEVE THIS?THEN WAKE UP FROM YOUR DREAM!!! *Lampard out, Fabregas in: Is this Chelsea's line-up next season? Chelsea won nothing in Jose Mourinho's return to the club last season. They finished third in the Premier League and were knocked out of the FA and League Cups in the fifth round and crashed out of the Champions League against Atletico Madrid at the semi-final stage. Mourinho lambasted the lack of firepower at his disposal, which is likely to be remedied by the arrival of £32m Spain striker Diego Costa, with Atletico manager Diego Simeone confirming he would not stand in the player's way if he wanted to leave. In the middle, long-serving Frank Lampard has decided to leave the club after 13 years and as a result the Blues have been linked with a £30m transfer for ex- Arsenal man Cesc Fabregas , something Spain-based journalist Graham Hunter believes will happen. At the back, though Ashley Cole and David Luiz have left to seek pastures new, John Terry earned himself a new one-year contr ...

Following a mediocre season which resulted in missing out on both the Premier Leagueand the Champions League, Chelsea are planning on making big strides next season. It is all set up for a busy summer in West London, with the departures of Ashley Cole, Frank Lampard, Samuel Eto’o and David Luiz just being the beginning. Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho wants to build a new era at the club, and it appears Russian owner Roman Abramovich is on board and willing to back him heavily in the transfer market. According to the Spanish press AS, the Bluesare plotting a €100million raid on recent La Ligawinners Atletico Madrid. Here are the three names the Premier League club are reportedly preparing to break the bank for: Diego Costa: Brazilian-born Spanish international Diego Costa has been in lethal form for Atletico Madrid this season, scoring 36 goals in 52 appearances through ...

The first reaction is that PSG overpaid wildly. David Luiz is five months older than Thiago Silva was when he made the move to Paris two years ago. For David Luiz to cost anywhere from $10 to $23 million more than his Selecao colleague, he would have to be a whole lot better. (There is some inflation in fees, but not to that degree.) Simply put, he's not. He's not even the same ZIP code. We're talking about a guy who could not beat Gary Cahill and John Terry to a starting spot in Chelsea's lineup. It's not a knock on Chelsea’s centre-backs; it's just a reflection on how the most expensive central defender in the world really ought to find playing time at his preferred position. Instead, he made just 15 Premier League starts, nearly half of them in central midfield. David Luiz is on his way to a new challenge in Paris. Nor is it a case of Jose Mourinho simply failing to appreciate David Luiz's talents. Mourinho's predecessor Rafa Benitez also shunted David Luiz into the middle of the park often. In Benit ...
Why Diego Costa To Chelsea Is Disastrous For Arsenal. The powerful forward's proposed move to the Premier League could spark a transfer merry-go-round... It’s been a transfer wrangle which has rumbled on for months already – and, according to The Independent, there finally appears to be some movement in the Diego Costa to Chelsea saga. Following Atletico’s loss to Real Madrid in the Champions League final last night, rumours are hotting up that the Brazil-born Spanish striker might have played his last game for Los Rojiblancos, and could well pitch up in West London over the summer. His arrival in the capital is certainly long overdue for a Chelsea side which cannot score for toffee, yet, ironically, have sent their biggest threat, Romelu Lukaku, TO the Toffees – and his natural power and goalscoring ability would spark fear across the Premier League. He won’t come cheap – but his £35 million capture could be facilitated by the Blues’ imminent £50 million sale of David Luiz to PSG, and the ...

SPORTS UPDATE WITH EMMAH ATAI: Chelsea are in advanced talks with French champions Paris St-Germain over the sale of defender David Luiz for about £40m.The 27-year-old Brazil international joined the Blues from Benfica for £21.3m in January 2011. MEANTIME, striker ,Demba Ba claims he will still be a Chelsea player next season after revealing Jose Mourinho has told him he wants him to stay. Ba had said he wanted to leave in April because he felt he was not being given the opportunity to become a first-team regular at the club. Along with Chelsea's other strikers, he was also criticised by the manager for a lack of success in front of goal. Moussa Sissoko insists he is happy at Newcastle and is looking forward to returning to the club after playing at the World Cup with France. The player’s agent sparked speculation of a potential move for the midfielder when he was quoted as saying Sissoko was “open to proposals”, but the 24-year-old has moved to calm the fears of Magpies supporters. In a move that would raise eyebrows, Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho has been linked with a move for Manchester United utility player Phil Jones. The 22 year-old is currently preparing for the World Cup after Roy Hodgson named Jones in his 22-man squad and has emerged as a potential target for Premier League rivals Chelsea. Mourinho is looking at defensive options with David Luiz being touted as a target for Barcelona and John Terry coming towards the end of his career, despite signing a one-year extension. Jones would provide cover in a number of positions and like many others at Old Trafford, did not enjoy a good campaign under David Moyes. The club would be unlikely to welcome advances for one of their players, though it remains to be seen where Jones fits into incoming manager Louis Van Gaal’s plans. [Source: Independent]
Barcelona are prepared to offer former Arsenal midfielder Alex Song to Chelsea as part of a bid for David Luiz. The Spanish club are set to battle with Bayern Munich and Paris St-Germain over Luiz, who is expected to be allowed to leave Stamford Bridge. Bayern can use Chelsea's interest in striker Mario Mandzukic as a bargaining tool in their pursuit of Luiz, and Barca will check on whether the Blues want Song, who will leave the Nou Camp this summer and is interested in a return to the Premier League. Barcelona have already offered him to Manchester United and Liverpool, and attempted to generate interest from Tottenham. Like Luiz, Song can play in midfield or defence but it is unclear whether or not Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho would be interested in the 26-year-old. Mourinho has already made Tottenham midfielder Paulinho a target and is primarily ready to sell £30m-rated Luiz to help generate transfer funds, rather than to use him in swap deals. Winger Alexis Sanchez could be a more appealing player ...

Chelsea look set to make Roma's Mehdi Benatia their first choice to replace David Luiz in defence. The Blues are reportedly facing the likely departure of Brazil international Luiz to Barcelonathis summer, with the player often falling out of favour with Jose Mourinhothis season. With Barca keen to bring in defenders themselves, Luiz has often been linked as one of their main targets, alongside Liverpool's Daniel Agger, and now Chelsea are preparing to bring in replacements in that area. Benatiahas been one of the most impressive centre-backs in Europe this season, with his superb form for Roma attracting plenty of interest in the last few months, including from other Premier League sides Manchester City, Manchester United and Liverpool. Chelsea already have the highly promising Kurt Zouma arriving from Saint-Etienne this summer, with a deal having been sealed back in January, but it seems likely that Mourinho will also look to bring in a more experienced new signing along with the 19-year-old Frenchma .. ...
Brazil have named four Chelsea players in their provisional World Cup squad. Defender David Luiz and midfielders Oscar, Ramires and Willian are in a 23-man squad named by Luiz Felipe Scolari, along with Manchester City's Fernandinho and Tottenham's Paulinho. There was no place for Liverpool midfielders Philippe Coutinho and Lucas Leiva despite their important roles in the Reds' Premier League title bid. AC Milan duo Kaka and Robinho are also big-name absentees. Midfielder Kaka, 32, had been hopeful of playing in his fourth World Cup. Scolari was expected to select Chelsea's Brazilian contingent while Fernandinho is also in the squad after an impressive debut season in the Premier League with City. The 28-year-old has only featured only once for the national side since February 2012, scoring his first international goal in a friendly against South Africa in March. World Cup hosts Brazil have until 2 June to decide whether to make any changes before their final 23-man squad has to be named. The five-time wo ...
DAVID LUIZ TO BARCELONA FINALLY A DONE DEAL. (Courtois & Hazard still on the move) Stamford Bridge star set for Nou Camp switch. Barcelona have reportedly reached an agreement with David Luiz over a potential summer move to the Nou Camp. The Catalan club have been actively pursuing a long term replacement for Carles Puyol, who is set to leave Barcelona, and have identified the 26 year old Chelsea fan favourite as the man for the job. Barca sporting director Andoni Zubizarreta is said to have secured terms with Luiz that would see the former Benfica man sign a five year deal worth around £4.5m a year. Chelsea has agreed a £25m with Barcelona for the Brazilian international who has been something of a bit-part player this season. Luiz was a key member of the Chelsea sides that won the Champions League and Europa League titles but has started less than half of the West London club’s Premier League fixtures this term and has more frequently been used in a defensive midfield role. Chelsea signed Luiz in Ja ...
Barcelona defender Dani Alves has received support from Premier League players including Sergio Aguero, David Luiz, Oscar, Willian, Nacer Chadli and Moussa Dembele following his reaction to a banana being thrown in his direction by a Villarreal supporter during a La Liga game on Sunday. The Brazil international picked up the banana and took a bite before playing a key role as Barca fought back from 2-0 down to win 3-2 to keep their hopes of retaining the Primera Division alive.Following the game Alves was backed by team-mate Neymar who posted a picture of himself with a banana alongside the hashtag 'We are all monkeys', while his girlfriend Thaissa Carvalho also took a photo of herself among a group of friends eating bananas.
Liverpool outclassed by Chelsea Team B. Broken down for dummies. As we bask in the glow of yet another Mourinho masterclass, we should at least attempt to answer just how much of a B- team we did end up starting with against Liverpool. As I do not have individual minutes data broken down accordingly, we're just going to use Premier League starts to first determine the Chelsea depth chart. Here's what that looked like aheadof the trip to Anfield (number of PL starts in parenthesis). CHELSEA UPDATE ETOO OUT FOR TWO WEEKS Jose Mourinho is optimistic that Samuel Eto'o will return to action within the fortnight to bolster Chelsea's Premier League challenge. The Cameroon striker suffered a hamstring injury during Chelsea's 6-0 victory over Arsenal at Stamford Bridge on Saturday. Eto'o scored his 11th goal of the season against Arsenal before being withdrawn, fearing he had a severe injury. He will likely miss next weekend's trip to relegation-threatened Crystal Palace but Mourinho is hopeful the striker will return soon. "Hopefully it's not so big," said Mourinho. "Hopefully it's not a one-month injury, it's 10 to 15 days." Mourinho was happy with Eto'o's replacement, Fernando Torres, and with David Luiz's display in midfield, a position the manager insisted earlier in the season the Brazil defender would not play. "Fernando, without scoring a goal, had a very good performance with great movement for the team," Mourinho said. "I like David in midfield. I like him a lot there."

Our win and Norwich's success against Tottenham has produced a 10-point gap between top and fifth place with less than a third of the campaign to go. TACTICAL BRIEF David Luiz and John Mikel Obi, ruled out of the weekend victory over Everton, travelled to Istanbul with the squad. The availability of the pair will be important in this competition as former Benfica man Nemanja Matic (as well as ex-Basel winger Mohamed Salah) is ineligible. PAT NEVIN: BACKING THE BACKS Posted on: Mon 24 Feb 2014 With goals at a premium at the weekend, the quality of the rearguard stands Chelsea in good stead reckons columnist&club legend Pat Nevin... It only takes a 2nd to score a goal&it doesn't matter who scores it in the end. Trying to figure out who to give our last-gasp winner to live on the BBC commentary on Saturday wasn't an easy task. I eventually plumped for Frank Lampard, but as I say it doesn't really matter,JT or Lamps - it can't be an OG by Howard as the ball was on its way in before it was redirected by him. We were all just hugely relieved that justice had been done. For all the hard work in the 2nd half by the Toffees,Chelsea were the only team likely to score&the sympathy was only for the Everton defenders who had been magnificent throughout. It really is a toss-up in the Premier League to decide who has the best defensive unit, but it is only a toss-up between Everton&Chelsea. Most matches that are 0-0 after 90mins (if not 92!) can be an incr ...

EVERTON Lacina Traoré may be handed a first Premier League start having netted after just 4 minutes against Swansea on Sunday. With Steven Naismith a doubt, the Ivorian should lead the attack. Darron Gibson, Arouna Koné, Bryan Oviedo and Antolin Alcaraz will all miss the trip to Chelsea through injury, while Romelu Lukaku, who joins them on the sidelines, would've been unable to play against his parent club. Other than that, Roberto Martínez has no further injury worries. STATISTICS Chelsea have scored at least 2 goals in 16 of their last 18 home matches in the Premier League. Chelsea tackle Toffees, Gunners aim high (AFP) Friday 21 February 2014 Jose Mourinho will need another inspired display from in-form Eden Hazard as Chelsea try to cement their position on top of the Premier League against Everton on Saturday. Mourinho's side have reached the summit despite just 11 league goals this season from their three main strikers, Fernando Torres, Demba Ba and Samuel Eto'o, but fortunately for the Blues their Belgium midfielder Eden Hazard has been in sublime form. Hazard has netted 12 times in 26 league appearances, while also setting up countless chances for his team-mates, and boss Mourinho recently lauded the 23-year-old as Europe's most talented young player. Chelsea defender David Luiz has also been impressed by Hazard's rise since moving to the Bridge from French club Lille in 2012 and the Brazilian is confident his team-mate can one day surpass Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo as the best in the world. "He can be one day the best player in the world," Luiz said. "I'm so ha ...

MANCITY VS CHELSEA TACTICAL BRIEF The pattern in previous rounds of this competition has been that Jose Mourinho has rested a few of the players who have played the most. In the previous round's win against Stoke City he made five changes. In came Mark Schwarzer for Petr Cech , Ashley Cole for Cesar Azpilicueta , Frank Lampard and second-debutant Nemanja Matic for John Mikel Obi and John Terry (replaced at the back by David Luiz ), and Andre Schurrle for Ramires . This time around Terry, who has missed his first Premier League minutes of the season in the last week, is out. Gary Cahill limped away from the disappointing draw at the Hawthorns on Tuesday so his fitness is being assessed ahead of this game. Branislav Ivanovic is a possibility to play centre-back with Cole and Azpilicueta as full- backs. Manuel Pellegrini also has factors to contend with. The postponement of the home game against Sunderland meant a free week for his team, though the fixture will have to be crammed into their busy schedule at ...

In shocking developments at Stamford Bridge, the club are planning a raid on their London rivals Tottenham Hotspur for Brazil midfielder Paulinho and defender Vlad Chiriches in a bid believed to be around £35 million. The duo were among the eight players that former manager Andre Villas-Boas brought to White Hart Lane in the summer. However, after the recent sacking of the Portuguese manager, things at the North London club look rather uncertain. Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho will be desperate to sort out the many problems he has been facing this campaign in all areas of the field. The ‘special one’ has identified box to box midfielder Paulinho to replace the likes of John Obi Mikel, Michael Essien and Frank Lampard who have been erratic this season. Defensively, the Blues have had their worst season yet, keeping only 4 clean sheets in the Premier League. As John Terry nears the end of his career, and David Luiz yet to impress the gaffer, Vlad Chiriches is touted to be the answer to their woes. Howev ...
Manchester City showed a tactical naivety heading into their home clash against fellow Premier League challenging Chelsea on Monday, February 3 at the Etihad Stadium as they played 'right into Jose Mourinho's hands'. That is the view of Joey Barton, 31, a defensive shield currently employed by Queens Park Rangers and formerly of Newcastle United and City, who added that Mourinho's utilisation of a counter-attack policy, combined with the superb displays returned by Nemanja Matic, David Luiz and Eden Hazard, were the differences in what was a convincing win for Chelsea, who now have amassed the same points haul as the side they defeated last night. Defender Branislav Ivanovic struck the game's sole goal - a powerful first half shot struck from outside the box with his weaker foot and Chelsea even threatened throughout the second half to double their lead. There was an emerging opinion in the press that Mourinho may adopt precisely the same tactic he so abhorred West Ham United boss Sam Allardyce using ag . ...
MANCHESTER, England -- Branislav Ivanovic's first-half goal split the Premier League title race wide-open. Here are three things from Chelsea's 1-0 win over Man City. 1. Mourinho stages a coup The suspicion was that Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho might follow last week's gibes at West Ham by installing his own "19th century" tactics. Instead, he staged the type of tactical coup he has trademarked in a decade of snaffling trophies. Manchester City manager Manuel Pellegrini and Manchester City, regular targets of his, are just the latest victims. Samuel Eto'o's presence meant Chelsea that never quite "parked the plane," as Mourinho described his 2010 Internazionale triumph over Barcelona. Back then, Eto'o played as an auxiliary left-back. This time, he led the line expertly. The pace may be ailing, but his ability to follow instructions remains. Only from the 83rd minute on was a 4-6-0 employed. The presence of Nemanja Matic and David Luiz as a double ballast spelled Chelsea's intent: stop supply lines to Ya ...
What you need to know about Matic 18 August 2009, Matić signed for Chelsea from MFK Košice for a fee of around £1.5 million in a four-year contract.[2] He was given the number 24 shirt by Chelsea but wasn't able to make his debut immediately due to the injury he picked up at the 2009 under-21 championships. He was on the bench for Chelsea's League Cup match against Queens Park Rangers on 23 September 2009, but did not take any part in the 1–0 victory. Matić made his Premier League debut for Chelsea on 21 November, coming on as a substitute for Florent Malouda in the 69th minute in a 4–0 win over Wolverhampton Wanderers.[3] On 23 August 2010, Matić transferred to Dutch Eredivisie club Vitesse on a one-year loan, together with teammates Slobodan Rajković and Matej Delač.[4] Benfica On 31 January 2011, Matić was transferred to Portuguese club Benfica along with €25 million (£21M) in a swap deal for Brazilian centre back David Luiz.[5] On 13 January 2013, Matić scored Benfica's first goal in a ...

Read more Chelsea Transfer News. Indeed Jose Mourinho has already set his sights on Saint-Etienne youngster Kurt Zouma as a replacement for the 26 year old Blues fan favourite. Barcelona have been tracking Luiz for some months and are ready to renew their interest as Gerardo Martino looks to strengthen his Nou Camp defensive options, which currently only includes to senior central defenders in the form of Gerard Pique and veteran Carles Puyol, with Javier Mascherano being called upon to fill a makeshift role and Marc Bartra on hand to offer support. Chelsea 1-0 Swansea City: Hazard strike enough for Mourinho’s Blues The West Londoners took the lead through the Belgian, though struggled to extend their scoreline against a stobborn Swans back-line who rarely threatened the home side Eden Hazard scored the only goal as Chelsea beat Swansea City 1-0 on Thursday to keep up the pressure on their Premier League title rivals. During a first half dominated by the hosts, the Belgium international darting infield before unleashing a powerful drive that deceived goalkeeper Gerhard Tremmel in the 29th minute. Chelsea failed to build on their superiority, though, and were made to work hard for victory after the break, though successfully held on to maintain their record of having dropped just two points at Stamford Bridge this season. Jose Mourinho made five changes to the side that drew 0-0 at Arsenal on Monday night, with David Luiz, Ashley Cole and Juan Mata among those coming into the starting XI and Frank Lampard dropping to the bench Swansea also made a ra ...
MATCH REPORT: ARSENAL 0 CHELSEA 0 = Summary The Blues return from North London with a well-earned point following a 0-0 draw with Arsenal at the Emirates. In a game shorn of many clear-cut opportunities, Frank Lampard went closest to scoring the decisive goal midway through the first half when he raced on to an Eden Hazard chip and smashed his volley against the bar. The second half followed a similar pattern to the first, with the defensive players on both sides coming out on top, although Olivier Giroud went close twice late on for Arsenal. A first clean sheet in the league since the 3-0 win at West Ham is most welcome, while for Petr Cech it was his 150th Premier League shut out, and attention now turns to two successive home games, starting with the visit of Swansea City on Boxing Day. Team News Jose Mourinho made three changes from the 2-1 win over Crystal Palace just over a week ago. Gary Cahill returned to partner Captain John Terry in central defence, with David Luiz dropping down to the bench. Wi ...
Graham Hunter looks at the potential big movers in the Premier League and La Liga ahead of the January Transfer Window, including the futures of David Luiz, Juan Mata, Diego Costa and Sergio Ramos.
We're heading into the January transfer window, so here are 20 bad English Premier League signings. If you're a Premier League director of football (Joe Kinnear, I know you're reading this), these 20 failed Premier League signings will serve as cautionary examples of what not to do this January for EPL clubs. The list is ranked by how expensive the transfer fee was. 1. Fernando Torres (Liverpool to Chelsea for £50 Million; 2011) Fernando Torres was in decline in his last season for Liverpool, scoring nine goals in 26 games (his worst return in his Liverpool career). Chelsea logic: Pay Liverpool £50 million for Torres, whose best game during a struggling season came against Chelsea. Look at what Luis Suarez does for Liverpool and compare it to Torres at Chelsea. Suarez scored more Premier League goals in 35 minutes against Norwich City (three; would finish the game with four) than Torres has done so far (two). 2. David Luiz (Benfica to Chelsea for £21.3 Million and Nemanja Matic; 2011) In the League Cup ...

Adel Taarabt never fulfilled his potential at Tottenham but the midfielder wants to prove he is a "great" player under new Fulham manager Rene Meulensteen. Arsene Wenger has shrugged off claims by 'Match of the Day' pundits Alan Hansen and Alan Shearer that Arsenal will fail to win this season's Premier League title. Team News- Chelsea v Southampton (Sunday, 16:10 GMT) Chelsea striker Samuel Eto'o is to miss Sunday's Premier League clash with Southampton and is expected to be out for two weeks with a hamstring injury. The Cameroon forward sustained the grade one tear in Tuesday night's Champions League loss at Basle and was replaced by Fernando Torres, who made his return from an adductor injury and could start at Stamford Bridge as Jose Mourinho rotates his options for the first of nine December matches. The Saints clash could come too soon for defender David Luiz despite his return to training from a knee injury, while midfielder Marco Van Ginkel, who is out with a knee injury, is a long-term absentee.
The five biggest Premier League wins - Manchester City games miss out After City's 7-0 and 6-0 thumpings of Norwich and Tottenham in their last two home games, a look at the highest margins of victory since the league began, also featuring Chelsea, Manchester United and Newcastle. Manuel Pellegrini's Manchester City may be struggling away from home but at the Etihad they are scoring for fun. 13 goals in their last two fixtures is impressive but their margins of victory are still not enough to put them in top five highest winning scorelines. So what makes the list? Chelsea 8-0 Aston Villa (23rd December 2012) – Rafael Benitez’s side saw Christmas come early when they thumped Villa at Stamford Bridge last season. Fernando Torres, David Luiz and Branislav Ivanovic put them three ahead by half-time. Frank Lampard made it four with a Ramires double, Oscar’s penalty and Eden Hazard completing the rout. Lucas Piazon also missed a penalty which would have put them at the top of the list. Chelsea 8-0 Wigan A ...
Jose Mourinho will expect Chelsea to revive their Premier League title challenge away to London rivals West Ham United on Saturday after their recent dip in form. Mourinho's men narrowly escaped a second successive league defeat immediately before the international break when a controversial penalty deep into stoppage time secured a 2-2 draw with West Bromwich Albion. The debate surrounding Ramires's tumble that won the spot-kick has continued and diverted attention away from Chelsea's underwhelming display which followed an even more lacklustre effort in a defeat at Newcastle. Now Chelsea, currently four points behind leaders Arsenal, will attempt to rediscover their form at Upton Park against a West Ham side desperate for points following a disappointing start to the season that has left them on the fringes of the relegation zone. Blues defender David Luiz was one of the players who paid the price for the recent results, dropping out of the side for the last two matches. Gary Cahill stepped into the tea ...
2-0 and Loic earned a 2-0 win over Chelsea as Jose poor St. James' Park record continued. The Chelsea manager entered the match with just two points from his previous three visits to Newcastle, and watched on as his side passed up a chance to move to the top of the table on Saturday. Chelsea controlled a first half devoid of clear-cut chances – their best effort saw John Terry hit the crossbar with a header – but were left reeling when Gouffran headed in an inviting Yohan Cabaye free-kick in the 68th minute. Substitutes Willian and Samuel Eto'o went close for Chelsea in the latter stages, but Remy hammered home Vurnon Anita's cut-back with two minutes left to seal Newcastle's win. The loss was Chelsea's second of the Premier League campaign, meaning Arsenal could go five points clear if they beat Liverpool this evening. Mourinho made two changes from the side that beat Manchester City in their last Premier League fixture, with Juan Mata and David Luiz replacing Andre Schurrle and Gary Cahill respectiv ...

Mourinho will give his fringe players an opportunity in Chelsea's second match in three days. John Terry has been in superb form for Chelsea this season - but is he currently the best performing English centre-back in the Premier League? Terry boasts the joint second best defensive record in terms of Performance Score in the Premier League this season (319 points). At present he is keeping Gary Cahill out of the Chelsea team, a player who has become one of England's two starting defenders along with Phil Jagielka. The Chelsea skipper was in typically good form with his display against Cardiff at the weeken - a game that barring a David Luiz error, Chelsea would have kept a clean sheet in. Terry won three out of three headers and also made 11 out of 11 clearances, as we can see below. Not only was he good at clearing danger but he was also very effective on the ball, completing 98% of his passes (82 out of 84): It is in this aspect of his game that Terry probably doesn't get enough credit: he is a very good technical player, despite not really being regarded as a ball playing centre-back. What we learned ? – Chelsea vs Cardiff City via CFC360 The international break was finally over and it was Premier League as usual on the weekend. Chelsea were facing newly promoted Cardiff City, at home. Torres was fit but Jose decided to start with Eto’o upfront. Oscar was rested which meant that Hazard, Mata and Willian were the 3 behind the striker. Bertrand started as a LB for Chelsea in the absence of Ashley Cole. Chelsea had a shaky start as an error of judgement from David Luiz as he left the ball for Cech to gather but Mutch pounced on it and put Cardiff City one up in the tenth minute. After that it was all Chelsea as the blues piled on the pressure on the Cardiff goal and looked for opportunity to unlock their defense. Cardiff sat deep with almost all our outfield players in their half. Cardiff had a chance as Odemwingie flicked but it was brilliantly saved by Cech. Mr reliable. The breakthrough finally came in the 32nd minute in controversial fashion to say the least as Eto’o snatched th ...
David Luiz believes the unpredictable nature of the Barclays Premier League will help ensure we approach today's game against Norwich City in the right manner. The Blues, looking to secure a first away league win of the season, travel to Carrow Road to take on Chris Hughton's side at lunchtime, approaching the game in a positive frame of mind following the 4-0 midweek win against Steaua Bucharest. It's been an unusual start to the new season, with all of the teams expected to be challenging for the title experiencing defeat at least once already, something the Brazilian defender views as a positive. 'This match is so important for us,' he said. 'We know that it is always an intense game, they play long balls all the time in the air, like a Premier League team, but also we need to win because we want to be at the top of the table. 'It's not crazy, it's normal. I think that's why it's the best league in the world, because everyone can beat everyone, so that's why it's magic. 'Other teams can lose, I don't w ...
Torres hopes Mourinho gets the message after starring against Swindon Fernando Torres hopes his performance in the 2-0 win over Swindon in Tuesday night's Capital One Cup tie will convince boss Jose Mourinho to make him the first-choice striker. Torres scored the Blues' first goal and then set-up Ramires' second as the Barclays Premier League side coasted into the fourth round. The Spain international has been relegated behind summer signing Samuel Eto'o in Chelsea's past three matches, but showed enough to suggest he could be included from the start against Tottenham at the weekend. 'Hopefully I will have more opportunities to play in the Premier League,' He told Sky Sports 2. 'The season is long and we have time to play important games. 'We will all be involved. We are in the manager's plans. We have 25 players squad in the squad and it is difficult to play in this great team.' Torres was joined by the likes of Juan Mata, Michael Essien and David Luiz in the starting XI after being overlooked in recent ...

Marca splash with the claim today that Luis Suarez agreed personal terms “weeks ago” on a move to Real Madrid. However, Suarez is now exploring other offers (which could include Premier League rivals Manchester City) due to the delay in Real Madrid making an offer to Liverpool. Now Carlo Ancelotti is installed as Real Madrid coach, Los Blancos will decide whether to bid 47 million euros (his release clause, according to Marca) for Suarez. The decision rests with Ancelotti and Marca suggest Suarez now has other offers available, comparable in financial terms. Suarez has reportedly grown impatient whilst at the Confederations Cup and new Bayern Munich coach Pep Guardiola is also tracking developments. Much like many other players who could be on the move (e.g. Gonzalo Higuain, David Luiz), the transfer market now looks set to get busier after Carlo Ancelotti and Laurent Blanc were installed at Real Madrid and PSG, respectively on Tuesday. Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers has been very busy in the transfer ...
- Schurrle deal agreed after Son sale Having won the Premier League in two of his three full seasons during his previous stint at the club, expectations are high. Known to be rather authoritarian in his approach, it has been rumoured that Mourinho wants to make a *** of a stamp on the team, with David Luiz and Juan Mata amongst those who could be forced out. Meanwhile, the former Real Madrid manager is the big-name boss who many expect to be able to attract big-name signings. Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Radamel Falcao and Edinson Cavani are just a few names to have been mentioned of late. While Falcao has instead chosen the French Riviera, Ibra and Cavani could still come to London, and either would be wholly capable of improving a misfiring front line that has seen Fernando Torres or Demba Ba start in the lone striker role all season. With countless below par performances, and respective conversion rates of 11.8% and 11.1% in the Premier League this season, few would deny that that is the area which most needs . ...
Chelsea: Top 10 goals of the season David Luiz, Juan Mata & Frank Lampard have all scored sensational goals for the Europa League champions this season Chelsea won the Europa League and finished third in the Premier League, scoring some memorable goals along the way. But which were the best 10? 10. Frank Lampard v Newcastle A mad game at St James' Park, which Chelsea went on to lose in the last moments of the game. With Jonas Gutierrez putting the Magpies in front after there was a shout for Fabricio Coloccini to be sent off following an injury he caused to Demba Ba, it summed up Chelsea's first-half performance. Nevertheless they responded well in the second half and, when needed, the man for any Chelsea occasion popped up again. With Chelsea on the attack that seemed to be resulting in not very much, Lampard collected Ashley Cole's pass and by his standards controlled it poorly on his chest but making up for it by taking it past Yohan Cabaye with a superb touch and lashed a powerful effort into the top ...
Who is Chelsea's Duracell bunny? As Blues near end of tiring 69-game season, look at the stats... After a 69 game slog of a season which has taken Chelsea to Japan, Romania, Russia and plenty of other places, they take on Premier League rivals Manchester City twice in two days - in America. But who is Chelsea's Duracell bunny? Analyzing the statistics to find which players have pulled their weight. The obvious answers would be Juan Mata, Oscar and Fernando Torres - who have all appeared in 64 matches. This trio currently hold the record for appearances in one season. But in terms of minutes played, the player who takes the accolade is Chelsea's man of steel. Or as his team-mates know him, 'The Beast'. It's Serbian centre-back Branislav Ivanovic. It's important to say that Ivanovic is actually only 2nd in terms of minutes played (4992mins) - but the No 1, goalkeeper Petr Cech (5655), mainly spends his time standing still in his penalty area. Following Ivanovic are Juan Mata (4920) and David Luiz (4915), ev ...
Europa League: Benfica 1 Chelsea 2 Full Match Report: 15 May 2013 22:45 Chelsea won the UEFA Europa League thanks to Branislav Ivanovic's last- gasp header as they beat Benfica 2-1 in Amsterdam on Wednesday. Fernando Torres had given the Premier League side the lead and the Serbian defender sealed a memorable win in stoppage time after Oscar Cardozo's penalty had levelled the scores. The Portuguese side named their strongest possible XI with Cardozo flanked by Eduardo Salvio, Nico Gaitan and Rodrigo in attack. But Rafael Benitez had to make do without the services of injured duo John Terry and Eden Hazard, with David Luiz stepping into midfield to allow Ramires to play on the right wing. Benfica settled the quicker of the two teams and were soon on the front foot, Cardozo heading over from a Andre Almeida cross inside two minutes. Jorge Jesus' men dictated the play in the early going but proved wasteful in front of goal, Gaitan firing high at the end of another intricate move, which saw Salvio turn down a ...
Evening Standard journalist, Paddy Barclay, talks Hawksbee and Jacobs through the latest Premier League action at the weekend. Among other topics Barclay discusses David Luiz's wink, which saw Rafael sent off for Manchester United, during the Red Devils' 1-0 defeat to Chelsea at Old Trafford.
Rafa Benitez is likely to make sweeping changes to the starting XI he sent out for a midweek FA Cup fifth round victory over Middlesbrough when Chelsea return to Premier League action against West Brom. Paulo Ferreira, Ryan Bertrand, Nathan Ake, Victor Moses and Yossi Benayoun are likely to be among those to make way, with Ashley Cole, David Luiz, Frank Lampard, Eden Hazard and Demba Ba pushing for recalls.
Sparta Praha vs Chelsea 2 @ 1.80 Rafa Benitez wasn;t very popular among the fans of Chelsea and now it has the days counted as manager of Chalsea. Of course he made some good movements as manager here, remember what he got from David Luiz, he also brought Demba Ba and tried the best with Torres, sometimes he managed to get him right. Chelsea will take Europa League quite seriously and I think they are going to look for a win. I do not think Abramovic will tolerate something else here. Sparta played just friendlies and will have some problems due to that fact. Chelsea is at full speed in Premier League and the win over Wigan might have lifted their morale up!. David Luiz (suspended), Demba Ba (cup-tied), Victor Moses and John Obi Mikel (Africa Nations) will not play, but Gary Cahill and Petr Cech are fit and will be on the pitch. Also John Terry. Expect Chelsea to win!
John Terry is out of Chelsea's Premier League match against Wigan on Saturday after suffering inflammation of his knee. Goalkeeper Petr Cech (finger) and Demba Ba (broken nose) are expected to be fit, with the striker in line to play with a protective face mask, while Eden Hazard is available again after serving his three-match ban for his dismissal for kicking a ball boy against Swansea. MATA RESCUES CHELSEA Premier League, Carrow Road – Norwich 0 Chelsea 1 (Juan Mata 38) Juan Mata’s superb strike from distance proved the difference as Chelsea edged Norwich 1-0 at Carrow Road in the Premier League. The Blues were not in as fluent or as potent form as they had shown in an 8-0 drubbing of Aston Villa, but they controlled possession and held on. Sebastian Bassong had a late chance to salvage a point for the Canaries, who grew in confidence as the game wore on, but his close-range header went straight down into the ground and over the bar. With Manchester City sliding to defeat against Sunderland, Chelsea move to within four points of second place, with a game in hand over last season’s champions. Interim Chelsea manager Rafa Benitez made changes from the side that ran riot against Aston Villa on Sunday, with Frank Lampard, Eden Hazard and Ramires amongst the players rested – but David Luiz did retain his berth in central midfield, partnered by the returning John Obi Mikel. Chelsea turned on the style to completely destroy in-form Aston Villa and move back up to third place in the Premier League. Fernando Torres continued his resurgence under Blues manager Rafael Benitez with atowering third-minute header to set the Blues on their way. And a stunning David Luiz free-kick and Branislav Ivanovic header as good as wrapped up victory before the interval. Benitez compliments beaten Lambert Frank Lampard marked his 500th Premier League start bycrashing home a fourth on thehour and two strikes from substitute Ramires, an Oscar penalty and a fine individual effort from Eden Hazard rounded off the scoring. As well as providing more evidence of Chelsea's growingmomentum under Benitez, the thrashing revised the PremierLeague record books. The result marked the first time seven players from one team have scored in a match and matched Chelsea's record 8-0 win over Wigan from May 2010. An unchanged Villa actually went into the game buoyed bytheir fine recent form and stunning win over Liv ...
Chelsea are in full flow now... David Luiz made it 2-0, Branislav Ivanovic made it 3-0. Will the hunt for the Premier League be a three horse race this season?
After that Club World Cup win over Monterrey in Japan, Robbie Savage was adamant that David Luiz and Frank Lampard were the men to play together in midfield for Chelsea. Today, he gets that wish granted. Merry Christmas, Robbie. Merry Christmas Frank Lampard as well - today is his 500th Premier League start. (Adam)
Chelsea: Interesting statistics from 2012/13 Some assorted statistics: – With six goals each, Fernando Torres and Juan Mata are Chelsea’s joint top-scorers so far. Mata has, however, reached that mark after 4 fewer starts in the Premier League. – Mata also ties the assist category with Belgian Eden Hazard (6 each), with the two players occupying joint second on the overall list. Again though, Mata has started four fewer games. – Outside of the back-four, John Obi Mikel has the highest pass-success rate in the squad (89.9%). – Gary Cahill and Fernando Torres both win, on average, 2.6 aerial duels per game, the most amongst Rafa Benitez’s squad. – David Luiz averages more defensive clearances (5.3) per game than any of his teammates. – Luis also leads his side in intercepts per game (1.8). – Oscar is dribbled more than any Chelsea player (1.4/game). – Gary Cahill blocks more shots per game (1.7) than any player in the Premier League. – John Obi Mikel commits on average more fouls per g ...
Premier League - Luiz happy to replace Romeu in Chelsea's midfield David Luiz has declared he would happily play as a makeshift midfielder at Chelsea. The Blues were pondering how to fill the void left by Oriol Romeu's season-ending injury, with moving Luiz out of defence one option available to interim manager Rafael Benitez. The Spaniard experimented with the idea during last week's Champions League thrashing of Nordsjaelland and revealed he would be prepared to do so again. "If the manager wants me as a striker, a right- back, a winger... I'll do anything to help the team. This is my philosophy," Luiz said, "I play for the team and, if I'm needed to play in other positions, I'll try my best. I've played football for a long time. I know other positions. I know what wingers need to do because I see them doing it all the time in games and training, so if someone asks me what I need to do as a winger I'd know. "I was in a different position against Nordsjaelland on Wednesday, the manager pushing me upfield ...

Most strikingly, there is no Andy Carroll for the home side, with Carlton Cole starting up front.(carroll is injured) Chelsea are largely as expected, with Rafael Benitez continuing with the Mikel-Ramires double-pivot in midfield. The Spaniard i.e Benitez was unable to provide instant alchemy to the team, as Chelsea mustered only a single shot on target in a match dominated by defences. In front of the watching Roman Abramovich, perhaps Benitez’s only achievement was that new-look centre-back pair David Luiz and Branislav Ivanovic had managed to keep the Premier League champions so quiet. The draw leaves Chelsea five points adrift of leaders Manchester United, while City finish the weekend in second place after failing to make their domination of the play and scoring opportunities count.
Premier League, Stamford Bridge - Chelsea 0 Manchester City 0. Rafa Benitez's Chelsea earned a point against champions Manchester City but he was subjected to remarkable abuse from his new supporters as his first game as manager ended in a 0-0 draw at Stamford Bridge. A significant number of disaffected Chelsea fans chanted "f*** off Benitez, you're not welcome here" in the opening minutes as they made their feelings about Roberto Di Matteo's dismissal, and the decision to replace him with the former Liverpool manager, explicitly clear to Roman Abramovich. Other Chelsea supporters held up 'Rafa Out' signs and chanted in support of his predecessor as the Spaniard endured one of the most hostile starts to a managerial reign in recent memory. It was only marginally better on the pitch as Chelsea struggled to create any noteworthy chances against City, with Fernando Torres a constant disappointment after his restoration to the starting XI in Benitez's first team selection. The draw means City sit one point be ...

Chelsea defender David Luiz has confirmed that voices were raised in the Blues' dressing room after their 2-1 defeat against West Bromwich Albion at the Hawthorns made it four Premier League games without a victory.
Roberto Di Matteo has admitted Chelsea have been missing John Terry after their defensive problems deepened ahead of the Barclays Premier League game at Swansea. The European champions were all over the place at the back in Wednesday night's dramatic Capital One Cup win over Manchester United and were hardly any better in Sunday's first league defeat of the season against the same opponents. They have now conceded 11 goals in just four games since Terry began his domestic racism ban, although the Chelsea captain did play in one of them when he started their Champions League defeat at Shakhtar Donetsk. Terry serves the final instalment of his ban on Saturday, while manager Di Matteo revealed fellow defender David Luiz would almost certainly miss the Swansea game though injury. That would mean Branislav Ivanovic being pressed into centre-back service in a new-look defence that would almost certainly see right-back Cesar Azpilicueta handed his full league debut, with Ashley Cole returning from injury on the ...
Chelsea manager Roberto Di Matteo has confirmed that Juan Mata and David Luiz are major doubts for this weekend’s Premier League clash against Swansea City.
Chelsea sensationally avenged their bitter Premier League defeat to Manchester United as they won an nine-goal Capital One Cup thriller 5-4 after extra-time at Stamford Bridge. United looked set to pile on the misery for the European champions with a 3-2 fourth-round victory three days after ending their 10-year wait for a league win in West London, in the most controversial manner imaginable. But Eden Hazard scored a penalty with the last kick of normal time before Daniel Sturridge and Ramires completed an amazing comeback just 24 hours after Arsenal's astonishing 7-5 win at Reading. Just as in that game, defending was nowhere to be seen as United led three times through Ryan Giggs, Javier Hernandez and Nani and Chelsea hit back with a David Luiz penalty and Gary Cahill header. Giggs also scored an extra-time consolation from the spot for United as the Mark Clattenburg saga was briefly forgotten. The 6,000 United fans, far more than on Sunday, mercilessly taunted their opponents throughout about both Cla ...

Di Matteo will find it hard to snub a competition that has offered a number of other recent Chelsea bosses a chance of early silverware. Chelsea boss Roberto Di Matteo will this season have to take a decision no manager relishes: which trophies to give up on before the season has started. The Blues are up for an unprecedented seven trophies in the 2012/13 campaign: the Premier League, FA Cup, League Cup, FA Community Shield, Champions League, European Super Cup and World Club Cup. If conventional logic says it is folly to fight on seven fronts at once, a look at the fixture schedule shows that to attempt to do so could be suicidal for Chelsea’s season. From the very start, Blues suffer for the success they achieved last season. On 12 August they are pitched into an FA Community Shield game at Villa Park, not their happiest of hunting grounds, against Manchester City. They are likely to be without Olympic stars including Juan Mata, Oriol Romeu, David Luiz, Ryan Bertrand and Daniel Sturridge for this matc ...

Gary Cahill and David Luiz have given Chelsea a boost by returning to training ahead of Saturday's Champions League final. The two defenders have been missing with hamstring injuries, but both are in contention to face Bayern Munich. John Terry, Branislav Ivanovic, Ramires and Raul Meireles are all suspended, while Florent Malouda (hamstring) is doubtful. "I've been trying different options in training," said manager Di Matteo. "We will put some reserve team players on the bench, into the squad, and just figure out what to do." Luiz has not featured since 15 April, while England international Cahill has missed the last five games with a similar problem. After the session, Cahill said: "There's some work to be done in two or three days now leading up to the game for me to get back into it. "If I need to do a little bit of other training, I'll do that. "But, touch wood, there's no reaction from today. I felt fine out there." Luiz declared himself fit enough for Munich and said: "I'm so happy to return to tr ...
