David Koresh & Jim Jones
David Koresh (August 17, 1959 – April 19, 1993), born Vernon Wayne Howell, was the leader of a Branch Davidian religious sect, believing himself to be its final prophet. Reverend James Warren Jim Jones (May 13, 1931 – November 18, 1978) was the founder and leader of the Peoples Temple, which is best known for the November 18, 1978 mass suicide of 909 Temple members in Jonestown, Guyana along with the killings of five other people at a nearby airstrip. /5

Dear PM Harper, other people who led people and got paranoid: David Koresh, Jim Jones, some German dude...
David Koresh, Jim Jones, & all raised as "Seventh Day Adventists" -- who believe the Catholic Church is "The *** of Babylon".
David Koresh & Jim Jones were "Seven Day Adventists". brought up in home of mother who was also "Seven Day Adventist" . Strange Cult.
reality.gif (3817 bytes) "Why is it that reality, when set down untransposed in a book, sounds false?" Simone Weil (1909–43), French philosopher, mystic Sometimes people will follow their "leaders" blindly down paths of hate and animosity, without thinking on their own. Over 900 followers of the 'Reverend' Jim Jones committed mass suicide in Guyana in 1978, the disciples of David Koresh are willingly (perhaps) accepted death following their 'prophet', or people continue to donate to religious 'missions' despite their having been totally discredited as to motive, so it certainly is understandable that some people will blindly accept the charges that Masons and Masonry are all part of some huge evil empire or anti-religious cabal - or at least wonder if there's some merit to the accusations, particularly since they're so widely spread around today in the media and on the internet. But let's try to look at this using common sense: bullet Does it seem reasonable to think that some 3-5 million Masons of toda ...
I don't look at follower counts, Jim Jones, David Koresh & Charles Manson, had followers too...:/
I have 59 followers!! Less than Jim Jones, but, almost as many as David Koresh.
Islam is a sick cult, no different than the Jim Jones or David Koresh.

Your opinions are useless if you didn't even know who Jim Jones or David Koresh were. Do you read newspapers or watch tv?
WHAT? Jim Jones & David Koresh knew what they were talking about? Are you aware both contributed to mass human slaughters?
That's something Jim Jones and David Koresh were good at saying.
Start with John Frum and Jim Jones, check out Papa Legba and move on to L Ron Hubbard and David Koresh.
Yes they sure do. Jim Jones, David Koresh just to name a few.
So Ted Cruz is yet another prophet of bastardized Christianity, akin to David Koresh, or Jim Jones? Comforting.
Ted Cruz is no different from Warren Jeffs, Marshall Applewhite, David Koresh & Jim Jones - a cult leader.
"Jim Jones, David Koresh and Meir Kahane do not typify Christianity and Judaism in the eyes of the 'civilized' West, but those same eyes are prone to see Osama Bin Laden and Mullah Muhammad Omar as typifying Islam." [Richard Bulliet]
Jim Jones did. David Koresh did. People do all the time
Mormon doctrine is being exposed for what it is, of purely human origin nd their is mountain of evidence for that. Mormonism is cult. A "cult" is characterized, first and foremost, by two identifying items. First, there is a person or persons who are supposedly inspired directly from God, just like the Apostles in the first century. Their words is law. Some cult exists on the basis of this point alone, such as Jim Jones or David Koresh nd the branch of Davidians. But, larger and lasting cults hv another factor - a body of literature produced by the inspired person or persons that contain the Doctrines that must be believed and rules that must be followed (Barnett - mormonism against itself, 2010).
If Martin Bashir can compare to David Koresh, why can't I compare to Manson or Jim Jones?
Just saw a video with 1000 Badasses chanting "BLOG BEAST!!" ... after a brief intermission they started chanting "Jim Jones!" and "David Koresh!" :)
islam is the only religion that does this to people because they won’t join the club. The Buddists don’t, the Hindus don’t, the Jews don’t and the Christians haven’t since the middle ages. *** even the satanic people don’t do this. In the case of Jim Jones and David Koresh it was other Christians who stormed the Koresh compound to put an end to it. There is a billion or so muslims, if only a small fraction believe in and commit these atrocities then why don’t the rest of the muslims rise up and say hey this isn’t what we are about and put an end to it? Why aren’t they leading the charge? This form of religious insanity would end overnight if the islamic majority wanted it to, if they truly were a religion of peace then they would be first in line to end this blight on their religion. Instead all you get are complaints that people of the world are pointing out the insanity.
CHURCH ALERT! I never tell people "to go to church," because the choice we make could be a matter of Life or Death! Remember, David Koresh in Waco, TX & Rev. Jim Jones, The Peoples Church, tragedy in Guyana! Go to a Church that teaches how to live CHRIST-LIKENESS, who Jesus is & what He did for you
Walking in front of a crowd or standing before the masses assuming a leadership position does not make one a leader... A 'Leader' is not known or acknowledged for his/her geographical, situational or chronological 'position' but rather his/her innate 'possession' of leadership skill set...The 'Pied Piper' lead yet his followers heeded his beckoning to their doom, as did the followers of 'Jim Jones' 'David Koresh' and others like them! I looked up the dictionary meaning of impostors such as the 'Pied Piper' and it says, "(1) One that offers strong but delusive enticement. (2) A leader who makes irresponsible promises. (3) A charismatic person who attract followers. And even from a biblical perspective these so called leaders were characterize as 'Hirelings'...And so it is therefore then incumbent upon every person to not follow blindly but listen keenly and watch attentively to the one positioned in front to see to it that he/she doesn't just assume a 'position' but rather has the necessary innate 'possess ...
It amazes me how hatred can rip through the very foundation of a society and cause chaos, anarchy and despair. When we unmask all of the political propaganda and pull back all the layers of "I'm a Democrat/I'm a Republican", we end up where we started zealots shouting "HE's NOT AMERICAN." It makes me sick to my stomach to listen to people who call themselves patriots of this great nation, who've never served by the way, hold up, tort and twist the meaning/intention of the Constitution, like Jim Jones and David Koresh interpreting the bible. We want so hard to believe in our democracy! Let's start by demanding equality! Let's stop demonizing Government workers who are themselves most likely Veterans. Let's demand the 27th Amendment to the Constitution, that says by law Congress's pay can not be stopped or amended regardless of whom else's is, be called for the peoples vote. No more being Sheeple! WE THE PEOPLE!
I have studied a lot on religion,, I read the scripters of the bible,, I watch television evangelist because I compare what they say to what the bible say's and that helps me learn what's right,,, I know two preachers that could quote the bible word for word,, their names were David Koresh and Jim Jones,, and they led over a 1000 people to their deaths,,, and a lot of them were babies ,
AND THE END OF THE AGE In Matthew24:3 Jesus was asked, "Tell us, when will these things be, and what will be the sign of your coming, and of the end of the age?" Jesus told his apostles to look for the following signs prior to his second coming and the end of the age. 1. FALSE PROPHETS AND CHRISTS Matthew 24:5 "For many will come in my name, saying, I am Christ, and will mislead many." Matthew 24:11 "And many false prophets will arise, and will mislead many." In the last several years many have claimed to be the Messiah. Jim Jones and David Koresh are examples of these false christs as well as countless others who are not as newsworthy. These false prophets are a prelude to the ultimate false christ, the antichrist. Many New Age groups, some even NGO's working for the United Nations, are anxiously awaiting the antichrist, preparing the way for his acceptance as the head of the hierarchy of gods and the one who will usher in world peace. 2. WARS Matthew 24:6 "And you will be hearing of wars and rumo ...
Adolph Hitler, Jim Jones, David Koresh, and Christopher Doerner come to mind as true believers/epic failures
If Al Sharpton is a Reverend, so was David Koresh, Jim Jones and Charles Manson.
& the Jamestown Cannibalism, Salem Witch trials, Jim Jones, David Koresh, Albert DeSalvo-all black men with hoodies
What'd i say??! I've lost more followers than Jim Jones and David Koresh combined today
wow, really...just like David Koresh or Jim Jones...
Julian Assange is the David Koresh and Jim Jones of self-proclaimed, self-obsessed "whistleblowers." Associating with him is bad news.
This looks like something from a Jim Jones or David Koresh gathering. This is effing creepy
Many people tend to think that God is not God, or that there are many gods, or no gods at all. To all those people who think that they were god and to all those who made statues and people into gods, I submit to you the following: Zeus, Buddha, Krishna, Mohammad, Thor, Xenu, Wayne Bent, Marshall Applewhite, Inri Cristo, Matayoshi Jesus, José Luis de Jesús Miranda, Jim Jones, David Koresh, Ariffin Mohamed, Laszlo Toth, Thomas Harrison Provenzano, Sergei Torop, Sun Myung Moon, David Koresh, Jim Jones and many more. Here is a song that describes exactly how I feel. I won't apologize for it. This is my belief and this is My God: as sung by John W. Schlitt on THE GRAFTING Words and Music by Dan Needham How could a face in history Put a flame inside of me? A carpenter, the writer of eternity Some prophets claimed to do the same They offered hope another way They died, we buried them But did they rise again? Ooh, from age to age You never change Ooh, You’re the Name above all names (chorus) A hundred thousan ...
My sister-in-law Lolita Nunn needs an exorcism and lots and lots of prayer because she is the DEVIL. I have had to forgive her over and over for the past 20 years. It is obvious she will not change. Lolita continues to alienate my Brother Sean from his family and friends with lie after lie after lie. Lolita pretends to be a christian and uses the Bible to manipulate, control, and mislead her husband just the way Jim Jones and David Koresh did their followers. She refuses to sit down with everybody to discuss and resolve problems she has created because liars like to keep everyone separate so they can continue with their deceptions. My brother is a hard working christian who works two jobs one of them is serving and protecting our country. When he's gone serving this country Lolita is serving brother Michael in the bed and home Sean pays the bills for, she makes her children lie and keep secrets so she can continue to be an adulterer. Her non christian behavior does not stop with adultery. She wi ...
When it comes to religion I think most people keep two sets of books. On one hand they like being faithful and look forward to the second coming. On the other hand, if the second coming actually happened there would be no more faith - it would be a certainty. Jesus or God or Muhammad would surely lay down the ONE AND ONLY TRUTH and all those people who believed differently would have to change. It's funny that in our society everybody thinks they are going to heaven. They have all created God in their own image so that their lifestyle conveniently fits in perfectly with God's wishes. Rich people actually think God made them that way because they were doing good. Criminals in prison think that they are God's chosen. The Mormons, Scientologists, Jerry Falwell, the Pope, Tammy Faye Baker, Jim Jones, David Koresh, and even Glenn Beck think they know what God wants. Wouldn't it be absolutely hilarious to watch all those TV preachers if Jesus said give up all your possessions, your TV studio, your mansions, and ...
MODERN CULTS AND THE LORD'S CHURCH With the recent carnage of over 50 people in three diverse places on two continents, the power of cult leaders has once again reared its ugly head. Jim Jones and David Koresh are gone, but their spiritual clones are alive and active today in all too many religious organizations. What our society generally labels as "cults" will define the use of the word cult in this article. Even a casual understanding of the bible shows that, by this definition, cults are as far from the pattern of the New Testament church as any organization can get. To review these differences, consider the following: 1. Cults depend upon a following developed by a single human charismatic leader. Other than Jesus, there was no single predominant leader in the first century. Jesus had ascended into heaven before the church was established (Acts 1, 2). The apostles and prophets each "knew in part" (1 Cor. 13: 9), and none of them had preeminence. 2. Cults use deception in not revealing to their recrui ...
Learning about cult madmen Paul Shaefer, David Koresh, Jim Jones, Charles Manson and others. And how are your mister Smith?
hello fb friends , what does it mean when u have followers?? Am I like a "Jim Jones" or a "David Koresh???" LOL really???
Adolph Hitler, Charles Manson, David Koresh & Jim Jones are proof positive that 'changing lives' is not always a good thing!
What do you think about David Koresh and Jim Jones ?
I have often wondered how people can blindly follow someone like Charles Manson, and even commit brutal crimes for them. Or how a large group of people can follow Jim Jones all the way to Gianna and commit suicide with him. And no matter wrong wrong they do, they still view them as a saint. Like David Koresh who had sex with the women and children, yet he remained their leader. Or Warren Jeffs cult were his followers offered up their young daughters for marriage. It baffles the mind trying to understand this. Then I realized that half of the population of America do this.
(50 50 Wainamoinen, Sampo says 'Right-Chess-Ness', you WISH I was some Cult Leader like Jim Jones or David Koresh
The Christian Post shared the following link and had this to say about it: Despite such warnings, dozens of figures over time claiming to be Christ have attracted a following, with detrimental consequences, such as with Jim Jones and the Peoples Temple and David Koresh and the Branch Davidians. Below is a list of five men, still living, who have managed to attract followers with their claims to be the reincarnati...
Watching a show on H2 about Jim Jones, David Koresh, and a few others while furiously jotting down notes.
When people are tuned into " myths " ( 2 Timothy 4: 4 ) by these teachers. It is because they have no fear of God ( Jer 2: 9 ). These are not true Christian's, but a cult. That is why they worship their leader. He is their god. The spirit of Jim Jones and David Koresh is corporate now and accepted, because we in a nutshell are to BUSY in spiritual bondage ourselves to care.
Do you think that the majority of those who were taken in by leaders like Jim Jones, David Koresh and Charles Manson knew they were being LIED to and LEAD to their death...NO...they were SHEEP being lead to SLAUGHTER.Do you think that the above leaders; (even thought they were PERVERTED, PSYCHOPATHIC and DERANGED, they were STILL leaders) knew that their TEACHINGS were DISTORTED PERVERSIONS of A truth; or did they actually BELIEVE what they were teaching.I don't know about the above leaders BUT I DO know that Christian leaders possess a TEACHING MANUAL a RESOURCE that has PROVEN to be ALL TRUTH and its called the BIBLE! If you call yourself a LEADER in GODS UNIVERSAL CHURCH and you are teaching DOCTRINE outside of the WORD OF GOD but calling IT the GOSPEL TRUTH and it is CAUSING the people of GOD to TURN from God and GO ASTRAY...There is BLOOD on your hands...REPENT while there is still yet time...Watch and pray...judgement and exposure are on the way...woe to the shepherds that lead GODS sheep astray. .. ...
I really feel it for these Muslims who are respectful law abiding citizens. Each time a nut-job goes berserk and does some psychotic crap in their religion's name, they have to come out and do damage control. The Christians never did any press conferences--damage control-- to denounce the deeds of nut-jobs like Timothy Mcveigh, David Koresh and Jim Jones. My sympathy goes out to the family of that British soldier--no human being deserves such callous end. RIP fellow human. Hate is a sick disposition.
Jim Jones and David Koresh comes to mind.
Ha! He's just angry cause he's got a teenie weenie and desperately wants to be David Koresh or Jim Jones.
How does one sign up to being a "Belieber"? I've been meaning to join up to a David Koresh or Jim Jones style cult.
Do all Christians apologize for David Koresh and Jim Jones? Then why do they expect me to apologize for 9/11 and Boston because I'm Muslim?
Islam > Sicker than David Koresh and Jim Jones put together..
I think I'll tie all Christians to David Koresh, Jim Jones, Warren Jeffs, Eric Rudolph... and those are just past few decades.
I want 2 start a new religion or cult. OH YES, I CAN!! You want to bet? Your special/chosen:Jim Jones, David Koresh, Charles Manson. NO!!!
Yeah its pretty twisted, kind of reminds me a little of Jim Jones or David Koresh (not sure if (
Many cults become suicidal once the Leader can't deliver the goods (Jim Jones, David Koresh, etc.), so North Korea is not too surprising.
David Koresh did. Jim Jones. In fact, this kind of thing is rather common.
I received the book 'Going Clear' in the mail today. Its a thorough history on Scientology, and more specifically its founder L. Ron Hubbard. It's difficult to find an unbiased history of both. Most books come from a Pro or Anti-Scientology standpoint. A description of Hubbard as a saint or an amazing Con-Man. These sorts of topics intrigue me and they have for as long as I remember. Theology of any sort, but what we consider cults have sparked my curiosity the most. Not so much what they teach but more so those that teach it and those that choose to believe it. I'll be the first to admit I'm still somewhat baffled by why someone would choose to wholeheartedly believe, not just follow but believe, the fundamentals of a mainstream religion. Even more so why they would decide to blindly follow a David Koresh or Jim Jones down a predictable path of insanity. Hubbard is a different figure for me than a Koresh or a Jones. I can see those figures as nothing more than psychopaths. With Hubbard I see a man with a ...
Fake religions pay very well but oft have messy ends. So David Koresh and Jim Jones tell me at least.
All cults are founded & lead by nuts for example see L. Ron Hubbard, Joseph Smith, Brigham Young, Jim Jones & David Koresh.
So I was at the gas pump getting some much needed expensive gasoline. I was underdressed for the occasion when a gentleman approached me and stated that he was in the ministry. He handed me a brochure and invited me to a special event. I glanced at the paper and saw the words Watch Tower and realized that he was from the Kindom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses. Now I am mostly a tolerant person and at least he didn't knock on my door. But the brochure says that Jesus died on March 26, 1980 years ago 'after sundown'. Correct me if I am wrong, but I don't think we used a Julian Calender back then. I hate to bash anybody for religious or societal beliefs, but these people are just freaking nuts. They actually believe that only 144,000 people will go to Heaven. Most of them are already there, but if you join us now, you have a snowball's chance in *** to get to Heaven. I compare this philosophy to the Moonies, Jim Jones or David Koresh crowd or anybody that thinks that having 72 virgins upon arrival is beyond my . ...
Ok I have never been a conspiracy theorist however there are things that I can no longer ignore and just chalk it up to me being paranoid. First of all we have seen in movies and I even saw an episode of American Dad where they kinda made fun of implanting a thought or suggestion and at the appropriate time giving the word or words to said subject and it turning them into a killing machine against their will. Yes this sounds very science fiction however chew on this. If a person such as Charles Manson, Jim Jones, David Koresh can convince people to do the things they did then why can’t this be a very real possibility? With that said how do we know that Adam Lanza wasn’t one of those? Here are some facts. The whole thing drove the Government into over drive about taking our guns. Through it all I have had slight whispers of keeping our schools safe, but the reality is they are not interested in that if they were other easier things would have been implemented and would have been done right away. The .. ...
Now may I let folks know my feelings… one we have a supposed Leader that was raised Muslim and they have no problem lying in order to support the cause.. which is to establish a Worldwide Caliphate.. if you don’t believe me.. look it up… so “what if” we have a person in the Executive Branch that is a “Closet Muslim” pushing beliefs that seem to further those of Our Great Country… but in the background are actually pressing forward the concepts of Islam… As most of you may have noticed… I referred to this particular “religion” as a cult… and my reasons for this is simply because that if you go back and look at Jim Jones and David Koresh… the same policies were instituted… so… how can I come up with any other conclusion about it being a “Cult”… The following is copied from an Islamic Q&A site…. Is it permissible for him to lie to his parents in order to go out and seek (Islamic) knowledge? Allah has favoured me by islam. And I love to seek knowledge, but my parents st ...
Via Dave Hunt: There have been many false Christs in our day, from Jim Jones to David Koresh. Numerous gurus in India claim to be “Christ.” The false “Christs” presented by novels, videos, and movies have multiplied since Jesus Christ Superstar . The “Jesus” of The DaVinci Code is a fraud. The “Jesus” of ABC-TV’s Judas confessed that he “blew it” in chasing the moneychangers out of the Temple. The media bombards us with false Christs! That evangelical leaders called Mel Gibson’s The Passion of the Christ “biblically accurate” is distressing. It was almost entirely unbiblical: A sinful man pretending to be the One who declared, “He that hath seen me hath seen the Father” and whom Paul described as “God manifest in the flesh”; this Hollywood “Christ” stomping on a huge serpent slithering into Gethsemane, and Satan tempting Him there; the two Marys wiping up “Christ’s” blood with linens supplied by Pilate’s wife; “Christ,” knocked off a bridge on the way to ...
Jim Jones had followers. Charles Manson had followers. David Koresh had followers. All of them spread dangerous messages.
Reduce violence. BAN LIBERALS! Fact! 93% of all felonies including, but not limited to violent crime and murder are committed by people who self-identify as DEMOCRATS, such as global warming activist and mass murderer Charles Manson, Bill Ayers, David Koresh, and mass murderer Jim Jones. Dishonorable mentions include lifelong democrat and fruitloops: Fred Phelps, Bernie Madoff, Anthony "I show underage girls my" Weiner, Tony Rezko and Rod Blagojevich. The Baltimore Sun: "Democrats have a good reason to want ex-convicts to vote: Felons overwhelmingly vote for Democrats. In recent academic work, Jeff Manza and Marcus Britton of Northwestern University and Christopher Uggen of the University of Minnesota estimated that Bill Clinton pulled 86 percent of the felon vote in 1992 and a whopping 93 percent in 1996."
Funny when you tell your family your man is a Muslim and they start talking about Farrakhan, the Nation of Islam and The Final Call Newspaper...Kinda like him telling his family I'm a Christian and they go on about David Koresh in Waco, Texas and Jim Jones with the poisoned Flavor Aid in Guyana. But they mean well. (Just a random thought.)...lol.
I studied a book on cults a few years ago,, in the book it said cult leaders Jim Jones and David Koresh both could quote the bible verse by verse without looking at it,,, both of these men both led over a thousand people to their deaths, why do you think people get so fascinated in thinking these people were as mighty as God himself,, in the book it explained how they could make a person feel special,, but in the end both of the cult members turned on their people,
Beck is building his community - Will he be able to get Jim Jones to work as a greater Jim Baker to be his fundraiser or David Koresh to be
If I were to rank the overall aesthetic appeal/fun quotient of cult leaders throughout recent history, handsome and adventuresome Joseph Smith would win handily over scheming and vindictive L. Ron Hubbard, who nevertheless would finish well ahead of slimy, smelly and creepy David Koresh, who in turn would edge out vomitous and feculent Jim Jones.
Charles Manson did Bang with Followers first, followed by Jim Jones, David Koresh and prolly a few others I'm forgetting
Matthew 24:23-26 ...'Then if any man shall say unto you, Lo, here is Christ, or there; believe it not. For there shall arise false Christs, and false prophets, and shall shew great signs and wonders; insomuch that, if it were possible, they shall deceive the very elect. Behold, I have told you before. Wherefore if they shall say unto you, Behold, he is in the desert; go not forth: behold, he is in the secret chambers; believe it not.' Jesus is warning us here that there will be many people who say they are the Christ. This has happened many times over the years with people like David Koresh, Jim Jones etc. But, at the very end, satan will use all of his power to deceive the world with his angels impersonating loved ones and showing great signs and wonders. This is why we need to be devoted to Bible study each and every day, including bible prophecy, so we can know the truth of God and be prepared for any deceptions that satan uses. It is widely believed that satan will himself impersonate Christ, as it su ...
The Bible was written by men. Those men were inspired by God. So were Jim Jones and David Koresh. Back to square one.
David Koresh, Jim Jones, Charles Manson, there still those types out there lurking around our country.
I know. I almost felt like Jim Jones or David Koresh!
What if Jim Jones or David Koresh really was the son of God?
I have more followers than David Koresh, Jim Jones and Charles Manson combined, AND mine are weirder! *beams with pride*
In history we talked about Jim Jones and David Koresh. Later on, these two were on a Walking Dead quiz.
Charlie Manson had sheep. Jim Jones had sheep. David Koresh had sheep but who has the largest flock? Whom would like to be king?
Spent the evening watching a documentary on Jim Jones of the Jonestown Guyana tragedy where people drank the Kool Aide and died. It bothers me when a man uses the name and word of God to justify his own fleshly desires. Then, when you do learn about men like Jim Jones, you find out that he couldn't make it as a normal human being so he uses what he thinks the power of God to have people worship him. I spent many years, following the cults that always end up in some kind of mass death. From Jim Jones in guyana, to David Koresh in Waco, TX. To Heavens Gate in San Diego. In each case you find a crazy egomaniacal male (I won't call them men) that wanted to be worshipped, like they were God. They wanted to be "Father" and abused their followers to their limits. The Pursuit of a religious experience should not involved following one man, or one group to the premature end of you life. Jesus said follow to follow him and your burden will be easy and you yolk would be light. Well. . . my soap box is getting kind o ...
But it is only SOME Muslims.. They are majority a peace loving religion who follow the Quaran which decries violence as much if not more than does the Bible! Both groups worship the God of Abraham! If we judge the whole of Islam by the very low % of *** why not judge the whole of Christianity by David Koresh, Jim Jones, or the "Christians" who drove the Mormon people out of their homes in the middle of a freezing MO night, pillaging, burning and raping Mormon women? Lets put this "Wicked, Godless, MuslimS" idea to rest! Am I the only one who hates and sees the danger in generalities?
SPEAKING FOR GOD A lot of people say they speak for God. But are they really speaking for God, or are they speaking for themselves? Sometimes listening to the wrong people can lead to trouble, even death. In the 1970s Jim Jones led people to believe the voice of God told them to commit suicide. And many people died believing him. In the 1990s David Koresh became the voice of God to a select group of people in Waco, Texas. And bodies of his followers went up in flames, tragically displaying the potential danger of listening to someone who says he or she speaks for God. Others really do speak God’s truth; Billy Graham has led thousand of people to Christ by preaching God’s word. He has been a voice we can trust. Mother Teresa has also spoken for God. By helping starving people and showing them the love of Christ, she demonstrates how a person can speak for God with his or her life. How can we tell when a person truly speaks for God? Most of us can tell the difference between a David Koresh and a Billy G ...
Im watching the events that happened in Jonestown in 1978 on CNN. and I am the first to admit that because of the "Rev." Jim Jones, and even of David Koresh of Branch Dividians ( remember Waco?), I follow religion but, I more cautiously listen to those who lead in religion. "One may be blinded by faith but, closing your eyes permanently is dangerous." - EMW
Closed-mindedness is how you end up with whacked-out so-called "Christians" like Jim Jones, David Koresh, or Fred Phelps.
I am Devastated! how can people in this country vote for someone who practices Kensyian Economics and Is a Muslim.Just like sheep led to the slaughter Obama makes Charles Manson, Jim Jones, David Koresh and many other masterminds look like Saints.I just got off the phone with my mother who lives in Tennessee when the 270th Electorate Vote came across the TV screen and I literally started to Cry.And said mom I love you I have to go.See you at Thanksgiving .
Most American would say that it is not my fault, that America has fallen to this point of a deep seeded separation of governing. The truth is we are all to blame. I will start with all religion not just the leading religions. The truth is it is not the righteous that make people hate people of faith, but the hypocrites of the faith they profess they believe. For example in Christianity, Jim Baker, Reverend Wright and the worst of them, Jim Jones, or David Koresh. They twist the word of God for their needs. This is happening in the American Muslim religion like Farrakhan in a way we can not comprehend. Many of the Ayatollahs support jihod on America. With that said let us not forget the Atheist they belong on this list of religious groups for the simple fact they believe in no God so deeply they have a leading group the AAA (Atheist Alliance of America). Remember If you have a belief you can be a hypocrite. Nobody is incapable of hypocrisy yet we all find ourselves there (as a group), but never looking ...
How do Christians justify calling Mormonism a cult for nearly two hundred years, then clamber to vote for Romney? Would you vote L. Ron Hubbard for president? How about David Koresh, Charles Manson, Jim Jones or Marshall Applewhite? It defies logic
This explanation is scary because it just might be true!! cherykie • I used to wonder how people could be so brain dead as to follow the likes of Adolph Hitler, Jim Jones, David Koresh or Charles Manson, but after four years of the reign of Barack Hussein Obama, it's obvious that these people aren't interested in the truth- they just want to belong to something- ANYTHING- that will make them feel they are a part of a bigger whole; in peer pressure vernacular - they need to fit in,no matter what philosophies motivate their so called leaders .
I believe in religious freedom, just like Jim Jones, David Koresh, Reverend, Sung Young Moon, Pat Robertson, and Jimmy Swaggart.
Holly Miller this is for your friend that thinks Obama is so great. Examples of Narcissist, Stalin, Hitler, Mao, Saddam Huessin, Kim Jong Ill, Joseph Koni, David Koresh, Jim Jones, Charles Manson all of the above promised Hope and Change to their followers, promised them the moon and brought them all to their doom. Narcissists project a grandiose but false image of themselves. Narcissists create a cult of personality, his admirers become his co-dependents. They have no intrest in things that do not help them to reach their personal objective. They are focused on one thing alone and that is power and that is Barak Obama and his own record proves it. The facts do not lie.
What Barack Obama has shown since 2008 is called brainwashing and no one since Adolph Hitler has had the charisma and ability to bring weak people to believe their diatribe except maybe Jim Jones in the Jonestown massacre or David Koresh and the Branch Dividians in Waco Texas if you are not familiar with these look them up and you will see what I have seen. Barack Obama needs to be removed or deposed as seen fit and replaced with an american for if he is not we will be seeing the end of the american dream and the beginning of the next civil war and it will not be pretty
Election Reflection 3: I resolve NEVER to vote FOR or AGAINST a candidate because of the candidate’s CHARISMA, appearance, or ability to make a great speech. Why? Do the names Adolph Hitler, Joseph Stalin, Mao Zedong, Fidel Castro, “Che” Guevara, Jim Jones, David Koresh (I could go on) ring a bell? These men were beloved by their devoted followers, who were convinced their great leader had the answers to society’s ills as well as the confidence and ability to create a new and better world if given the power. Each of these men was also responsible for the deaths of tens, hundreds, thousands, or millions of innocent people. (BTW, I’m not comparing Obama or Romney to Hitler or any of the aforementioned others, so don’t even go there.) The truth is ANYTIME YOU SUSPEND REASON AND CRITICAL THINKING TO BLINDLY FOLLOW SOMEONE, IT'S NOT GOING TO END WELL. History is full of tragic examples. Have you fallen under the spell of someone’s charisma? Are you truly being objective? Want more? Rea ...
better at this cult thing than David Koresh or Jim Jones ever were.
Why do Christians dress up for church, bring their children and grab their wallets but forget their brains at home? I have nothing against church but it bothers me when I see no progress of the people only emotional ignorance. Going to church to alleviate the conscience is not salvation. Brainlessly absorbing everything "passah nem" say without holding him accountable of whether its scriptural or not is a feeding ground for the Jim Jones, David Koresh, Marilyn Manson
Have a wedding, encourage your guests to give money to the Obama campaign, have a garage sale, likewise. Now write on your had and pledge allegiance to Obama. Jim Jones, David Koresh, Barack Obama. Too creepy
think they're gods. More like those who see themselves as divinely favored like Hitler, Jim Jones, David Koresh, etc.
There is nothing more dangerous than a religious fanatic. You cannot reason with somone that is doing the "will of God".Examples of this are David Koresh in Waco and the Rev. Jim Jones in Guyana. As horrible as the deaths in Waco and Guyana were, they still do not compare to a religion that supported its followers flying planes into the World Trade Center. No matter what we do to appease the Muslims they will always want the U.S. and Israel destroyed. We should support Israel in the destruction of Iran's nuclear program by any means necessary. If you think making friends with these fanatics is the answer then you are just an *** and deserve what ever allah has in store for you.
Alright, Children. Now listen to Tabitha =) Not all Muslims are terrorist. Just because you see it on TV doesn't mean it is real or that is what someone believes. If that is going to be the case then I would have to say that all Christians are like David Koresh or Jim Jones. A Zionist...well...if you understand what they are, this speaks for itself. If you support that, well, I cannot support innocent killings of people.
I like many are frustrated over the violence overseas. I am also saddened that once again an entire religion is under interrogation. Over 2 billion people believe and practice the Muslim faith. All should not be blamed for the actions of some. Look at it this way. Would you want Charles Manson, David Koresh, Jim Jones or the KKK to represent all of Christianity? I didn't think so.
On the subject of 9/11, Nina asked me who the most evil guys ever were. Her vote was Bin Laden. I then educated her on others she had never heard of, starting with Hitler, then Stalin, then Pinochet, Charles Manson, David Koresh and Jim Jones. I tried to balance the examples of "evilness." Did I miss anyone? Or, more appropriately, huh? Why was I having this discussion with my Fourth grade daughter?
Wow, just saw Jennifer Granholm's speech on youtube. Can you say Jim Jones or David Koresh. Was she hammered or what.
Jim Jones, Charles Manson, David Koresh, Mitt Romney & Paul Ryan. Cults of lies and deception that lead the ignorant & blind to destruction
Don't drink the kool-aid or eat the yellow show. Don't eat where you poo or trust a politician, lawyer, or banker. Don't subscribe to NYT, Dianetics, Jim Jones, Branch Davidians, David Koresh, or Congressional Budget Office.
This kind of crime is committed every day right under our noses; we keep quiet (not our business) and sometimes even give a nod of approval e.g. David Koresh, Rabbi Washington (House of Israel) and Jim Jones (Jones town) to name just a few noted ones. Right now they are 'unearthing' in Russia hundreds who lived without daylight - yes many never saw the light of day! Some live eight floors underground under the iron fist of one man... This hooligan in Quebec is nothing but a CRIMINAL !! Would Jews do something? NO! Would Rabbis do ANYTHING! Definitely Not! Putting this house in order must begin at the shul with every single Rabbi (no exception) showing righteous leadership and "rightly divining right from wrong"! Every day we invoke the coming of the Mashiach but really how serious are we? This so called ultra orthodox nonsense is now taken so much to the extreme that if allowed by the Jewish community would come back to bite every Jew and perhaps sooner than we think...
I don't blame Jesus for David Koresh or Jim Jones.
I'm just thinking about the David Koresh's, Jim Jones, Jeffrey Dahmers', etc. They were executed for killing everyday folks. My question is+
Religious Fanaticism & Those Who Lead Spiritual Groups (Part 1) It is interesting to try and understand why people like Jim Jones and David Koresh achieved the type and amount of following they did. In Criminal Justice, especially criminology, we ask the questions why and how did such groups ever come into existence and what makes people follow fanatical leaders? Research indicates that almost 90% of the people on this planet believe in a higher being or power. More ask the question (even privately) how we got here. The essential point is that people inwardly desire a connection with whatever being or power to which they attribute their existence. Hence, when a spiritual leader or leaders surface even highly intelligent people can buy in to what is being sold if it is pitched in the right way to assist others in achieving that connection or perceived connection.
Tony Robbins is another David Koresh and Jim Jones in the works...
David Koresh and Jim Jones studied the Bible for months and years. What an idio (
yes, it's a double edged sword. We all know about the kool-aid drinkers, Jim Jones, David Koresh, etc.I feel for Suri
To label this as a religion is to give legitimacy to Jim Jones and David Koresh
Or thirdly: some religion leaders want to elevate themselves to the "Status of Christ" (Matthew 24:4-14; Matthew 7:15; Mark 13:6; Luke 21:8; and 1 Timothy 4:1-5). Two such religious leaders were David Koresh from Waco, Texas, and Jim Jones from Guyana, South America. Religious leaders who want to take on the "Status of Christ" are a big problem in many of our local Denominational Religions today (Matthew 20:25-28; 2 Corinthians 10:1-18; 2 Timothy 2:24-26; and 1 Peter 5:2-4). Beware of such leaders (Counterfeit Christianity – Galatians 6:7; 1 Peter 4:17; and 2 Peter 3:16).
Well I'm upset... I had planned on going to a dinner picnic in Murfreesboro to support the new Islamic Community Center (The ICM )... I dont get to go though. My prayers and heart go out to them as they gather support against the persecution they are fighting. Sadly, ignorance and fear are trying to prevent this new community center. I'm not angry, I'm sad. Very sad. For the lost opportunities for acceptance and brotherhood, for the lost education I am sad. What has happened to Freedom of Religion? Have people forgotten that once upon a time Christianity was feared and reviled? People seemed to be forgetting that "Love thy neighbor as thyself" part... I'm not Muslim, I'm quite happy as a Christian, but Islam is a beautiful and interesting religion. It's gotten a bad wrap through religious fanatics but then again, so has Christianity through people like David Koresh and Jim Jones. *puts soapbox away*
Listen to As apocalyptic as David Koresh; irreproachable as Jim Jones.
Exempli gratia - Just like David Koresh & Jim Jones preys on the gullible & weak-minded. He knows he can easily fool them.
Manson, Jim Jones, David Koresh: ALL utilized SCRIPTURES to deceive the masses meaning that the DEVIL is MANIPULATION or a HUMAN 'attribute'
Jim Jones and David Koresh on my mind at this point.
Every so often we need someone to be called the anti-christ, it keeps the excitement going! :-) After all, Hitler, Saddam, Jim Jones, Charles Manson, David Koresh, the list goes on and on about who the next and only anti-christ is everytime something horrible happens. Not trying to seem anti-christian because I am far from it. I just don't think you can call everybody that doesn't believe the same as you or does something you don't like as the anti-christ. Christ wouldn't, according to the Bible.
Jim Jones and David Koresh were not Christians and Timothy Mcveigh is a 100% atheist. Thanks for trying . .
Everyone agrees, in including the FBI, that the churches led by Jim Jones and David Koresh were cults. The religion? Christianity.
Jim Jones, David Koresh,Timothy Mcveigh are all Christian terrorists, but you'll nvr see "terroist" written next to their names.
Well it worked well for Steve Jobs... not so much for Jim Jones or David Koresh. I'd say 50/50.
I watched an hour long movie about DESTRUCTIVE Cults throughout History(Jim Jones, Mansen, Paul Schafer, David Koresh, etc.). I realize that so many people can avoid the catastrophies if they just read their Bibles, applied it, and TRULY understand what being a DISCIPLE OF JESUS CHRIST entails...
I believe that if Jim Jones (google him if you don't know, Guyana Mass Murder), David Koresh (Branch Dividian leader at Waco Texas) and the leader of the Heaven's Gate cult (I don't know the leader's name right off the bat and this list is FAR from being complete) and all of these famous people like Oprah, Horseface Sarah Jessica Parker and George Clooney can round up all of these STUPID SHEEPLE, have them all bend to to their will so easily... I should be able to start my own cult and become rich and power and take over the world! Oh wait a minute.. I can't do that.. I have something in me called "Moral Decency"! Hm I wonder how these people live with themselves (not the ones that wound up killing themselves of course).
so, is moon more legitimate as the second coming than David Koresh or Jim Jones? There's nothing rhetorical about it!
tell me one thing: why is the rev moon any more the messiah than, say, Jim Jones or David Koresh?
Can I be an acolyte instead? Disciple smacks of Jim Jones or David Koresh.
Jim Jones and his People's Temple committing mass suicide in the jungles of Guyana; David Koresh, who believed himself the Christ...
Jim Jones, David Koresh & Bill Ayres were all "community organizers" aka activists. Does this make them Presidential material?
the reason prayers are not answered is because your Jesus was a fraud and no different than Jim Jones or David Koresh
well, the best known cult leaders are Jim Jones, David Koresh and the comet guy, Marshall "Herff" Applewhite
Yep. Also David Koresh, Jim Jones, Applewhite. Ppl dying for something is important but not good 'proof'.
Mormons are Christian. Catholics are Christian. Protestants are Christian. Baptists are Christian. Jim Jones, David Koresh were Christians.
If anyone is allowed to interpret the Bible as they please, you get religious terrorist like David Koresh in Waco & Jim Jones
commencement speaker line up for 2013- David Koresh, 2014- Jim Jones, 2015- Brigham Young (no blacks allowed)
The answer is you tell them that they are wrong. Then avoid them like the plague. And you start going to another churh thats preaches Gods word, There has been mutitudes of people led astray by individials claiming to be Jesus or the Messiah. to name a few , David Koresh Charles Manson, Jim Jones from the Guiana suicide massacre. Hope I didnt embarass anyone, Lord knows this is not my intention. all this is about is the importance of studying your bible and not take just anybodys word for it God will reveal Himself to you if you seeking Him with all your heart, and not with your religious beliefs, He rewards those who diligently seek Him. through His Son Christ Jesus when you pray , Dont forget to use the name of Jesus . like this "Father God,I comes to you in jesus name You can call Him heavenly Father, or Everlasting Father ,or Lord God which ever you want to call him but dont forget to use thry name of Jesus because if you dont your would be better off praying to spiderman, batman ,bugs bunny , toot ...
Beware of following the advice of a pastor...Remember the names Jim Jones of Guyana...and David Koresh of Waco..and Adolph Hitler.
"Should we associate premil theology with, say, Jim Jones or David Koresh?" Love it
Ok, I watched something on H2 last night about Jim Jones and Jonestown maybe it's the fact I don't really have much faith in either my fellow man or place too much belief in "religion", but how retarded do you have to be to believe in someone like Jim Jones or for that matter some one like David Koresh. Koresh was a dead give away. He claimed to be the son of God yet he needed to wear glasses. The Jonestown incident happened when I was 8. When I saw it on the news even then my reaction was how stupid can people be. I can never imagine anytime in my life where I give every decision about my life to a very obvious con-man.
"Zach was like Jim Jones & David Koresh when it came to wooing me" - describing how she met and fell for
Not sure about that. Some are pure crazy themselves: Jim Jones, the guy who ran the Heaven's Gate cult, David Koresh, etc
The best thing about having a fight with Charles Manson, David Koresh and Jim Jones is that afterwards, the make-up sects is incredible.
A friend told me about a young man (the son of a friend of ours) who was considering entering the ministry and was asked if he had ever drunk wine. He said yes and was rejected. That's a sorry state of affairs, incorrigibly ignorant and unproductive. Too often a willingness to respond to a call from Christ/Holy Spirit to serve is disconnected from the ability by those with more emphasis on personal dangerously distorted agendas than a Christ centered understanding of life and the Great Commission. Plus it's just STUPID. Not ignorant. Not dumb. Not ill informed. Just STUPID. Lucky for him they didn't let him slide as the next step would have made him and those he touched non-Kosher or Christian Abrahamic sinners. STUPID. Did I say that? Who in the world outside of a Jim Jones, David Koresh or other nut case would want to be a part of that ministry to begin with?
Seduction – Covert-aggressive personalities are adept at charming, praising, flattering or overtly supporting others in order to get them to lower their defenses and surrender their trust and loyalty. Covert-aggressives are also particularly aware that people who are to some extent emotionally needy and dependent (and that includes most people who aren't character-disordered) want approval, reassurance, and a sense of being valued and needed more than anything. Appearing to be attentive to these needs can be a manipulator's ticket to incredible power over others. Shady "gurus" like Jim Jones and David Koresh seemed to have refined this tactic to an art. In the story of Al and Don, Al is the consummate seducer. He melts any resistance you might have to giving him your loyalty and confidence. He does this by giving you what he knows you need most. He knows you want to feel valued and important. So, he often tells you that you are. You don't find out how unimportant you really are to him until you turn out ...
HOW TO IDENTIFY A CULT BY WAYNE JACKSON In November of 1978, nine hundred people in Guyana, South America drank a deadly grape drink at the behest of cult figure Jim Jones. Our nation was mortified. In 1993, David Koresh led seventy-six souls to their deaths in the Waco, Texas compound of the Branch Davidians. Again, a cultist mentality was evident. Our own brotherhood of the churches of Christ has observed the rise of the so-called International Church of Christ (formerly known as the Boston Movement), led by mind-control artist, Kip McKean. Members of this movement are slavishly dominated by the powers that be—ultimately by McKean himself. Though the Bible does not use the word “cult,” the idea is there—at least in seed form. It is represented by the Greek term hairesis, rendered “sect,” which derives from a root meaning “to choose.” W. E. Vine suggests that it hints of a self-willed opinion that rejects the authority of truth, leads to division, and the causes the formation of a sect (1 ...
iPhone users overall are a little psycho tho. We're almost like followers of David Koresh or Warrens Jeffs. Maybe even a little Jim Jones...
John Kennedy, Adolph Hitler, Barak Obama, Jim Jones, Bill Clinton, David Koresh. What do all those people have in common? Charisma. Each and every one attracted a following of dedicated supporters. However, many of those supporters tend to be more involved with a personality cult than with critical thinking. To often they don't look at where their leader is taking them. Charisma is a very powerful personality trait and as such can be dangerous in the extreme. Jim Jones convinced his followers that they should drink poison Kool-Aid. Hitler created one of the worst regimes in the history of the world. David Koresh led his followers into a fiery disaster. In each of these cases, people followed a charismatic leader. This unthinking followership leads to groupthink, a more important that what is right or true. One of the best documented examples of this comes from the Bay of Pigs fiasco early in the Kennedy presidency. Irving Janis describes this in his books, "Victims of Groupthink" and "Groupthink, Psycholo ...
The entire GOP trembles in Limbaugh & Norquist’s presence. They are the Jim Jones & David Koresh of the Republican Party.
According to Santorum, Obama is not bible based. Hitler was though, as was/were KKK, Jim Jones, David Koresh & all rapist catholic priests
"Dear Mr. Camping: When you're finished with amateur hour, we're available for consults. Sincerely, Jim Jones & David Koresh."
