The first music video made in space: Canadian Astronaut Chris Hadfield sings David Bowie's 'Space Oddity'
On this day in music history: May 18, 1979 - "Lodger", the thirteenth studio album by David Bowie is released. Produced by David Bowie and Tony Visconti, it is recorded at Mountain Studios in Montreaux, Switzerland and The Record Plant in New York City in September 1978 and March 1979 . The album is the third and final Bowie's "Berlin Trilogy", his collaborative efforts with producer/musician Brian Eno, named as such since the songs are composed while the two are living in East Germany (though recorded elsewhere). More pop oriented than its predecessors "Low" and "Heroes", but still maintaining an experimental edge. The albums two sides will feature songs that follow specific themes. The first side include songs representing travel, while the second side feature songs commenting on Western society. The album's cover art (designed by Bowie and British pop artist Derek Boshier) features a photo (taken with a Polaroid SX-70 camera) of the singer posed as an accident victim with a broken nose sprawled out on ...

Good afternoon fb friends, I would like to introduce Alek. He is our West Valley City Animal Shelter Featured Kitty of the Day. Alek is an 8 year old neutered male white Angora who has been at the shelter since 4/15/13. Hi, I’m Alek and I know you’ll fall in love with me once you get to know me. I absolutely love to be petted but am very gentle about asking for attention. I really like to be scratched under my chin too. You’ll probably hear me purring up a storm to show you how happy I am! I’m a laid back, quiet, very nice boy who also loves to play. I was very sad to lose my former home through no fault of my own, but now I’m looking forward to something better: a “forever” home where I will always be safe (100 percent indoors) and never again worry about being alone. Check out my eyes—one is blue and the other is green—friends of mine have even nicknamed me David Bowie. I know that’s kind of silly, but I promise to learn any new name very quickly in exchange for one thing: a loving h ...

David Bowie - Stay (live on German TV 1978) Featuring the young Kentuckian Adrian Belew
Need anymore proof why New York is the greatest city on earth? Last night I attended an event organized by the Red Bull music academy called classic album sundays: a David Bowie special. THE CONCEPT: 3 Bowie albums explained by the the men who produced them: Ken Scott for "The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust & the Spiders from Mars", Tony Visconti for "Heroes" and Nile Rodgers for "Let's dance". 2 hours per album over a 6+ hour all day event. I could only attend the last event which happened to be the one closest to my heart and my generation and presented by one of my all time favorite music producers, Nile Rodgers. THE SETTING: an intimate event with 100 or so lucky attendants on the top floor of the New Museum on Bowery, sunset time with spectacular views of the city. THE EVENT: 3 parts: 1. Nile going freestyle, treating us to intimate stories of how he met Bowie in an afterhours club in New York with Billy Idol, delivering secrets on how he came up with the riff for "China Girl" from listening to a Ru ...
