United’s squad suddenly looks remarkably strong Nine players injured was the count, yet among the seven men the manager could name as replacements were Luke Shaw – the world’s highest paid teenager on £100,000 a-week – Adnan Januzaj, who now wears Ryan Giggs’s vaunted No11 – Darren Fletcher, the vice-captain, the time-served Antonio Valencia and Falcao. To be able to throw on a bona fide goal-scoring superstar midway through the second half to finish with a galáctico frontline of Van Persie, Falcao, Rooney and Di María illustrates United’s new and frightening strength in depth.
Darren Fletcher was made Vice Captain ahead of Van Persie you say.

Manchester United manager Louis Van Gaal has settled an extended summer storyline by naming Wayne Rooney captain. The announcement, revealed on Man United's official website on Tuesday, came shortly after the Red Devils beat Valencia in their final preseason friendly at Old Trafford. Rooney got the nod over Robin Van Persie and Darren Fletcher to replace Nemanja Vidic, who departed for Inter Milan this summer. Fletcher, who Van Gaal called "a natural leader" was named vice-captain. He will serve as captain when Rooney is unavailable.
Robin Van Persie has become the latest Old Trafford star to send his young son to Manchester City’s academy. Van Persie sees his boy, Shaqueel, join the sons of United midfielder Darren Fletcher and coach Phil Neville at the Blues academy.
We are glorified Manchester United. We stopped Newcastle United in their tracks on Christmas Day in 1995, and stopped Arsenal's unbeaten run at 49 games in 2004.In 2005, Jose Mourinho and Chelsea's unbeaten runs where smashed by United through a header from Darren Fletcher, and once again d little dream of Arsenal was dashed last nite in Oldtrafford by their own former striker,Van Persie. No team passes through our theater of dreams with clean runs cos we butcher them down.GLORY, GLORY ManUNITED!!!
Three Things: Manchester United-Arsenal By John Brewin | November 10, 2013 11:38:33 AM PST MANCHESTER, England -- Three thoughts from Manchester United's 1-0 win over Arsenal at Old Trafford. 1. Developing partnership spells danger "Eight points clear, Robin," sang the Arsenal fans, their triumphalism premature. They have been in understandably good cheer of late, but the appearance of a former idol turned their disposition sour. And especially when Robin Van Persie climbed above Olivier Giroud, his Arsenal replacement, to head home a Wayne Rooney corner in the 27th minute. There was to be no obeying of the modern practice of not celebrating against your old club. Van Persie stretched his arms to their full span in a vindication further revealed by a primal roar. Respect cuts both ways. On Friday, Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger had mischievously described his former captain as an Arsenal man. Here was his riposte. Like his teammates, determination was writ large on the Dutchman's features. The modern Manch ...

The Scot admitted he was surprised to see Nani take the spot-kick in his side's 1-0 Champions League win at Old Trafford but was pleased to see Darren Fletcher return
Darren Fletcher was all smiles in training on Tuesday as he moves closer to a Manchester United first team return following 10 months on the sidelines. The midfielder, who suffers from Crohn's disease, an inflammatory bowel condition, played a full 90 minutes for the reserves last week and is poised to make his first senior appearance since November last year. The Scot laughed and joked with teammates at United's Carrington training ground as United ran through preparations for Wednesday night's opening Champions League fixture with Galatasaray. Fletcher, 28, was included in the squad for United's European campaign, suggesting that a first team return is imminent. Fletcher was named in the United squad for Saturday's 4-0 win over Wigan at Old Trafford, but didn't make the bench. And manager Sir Alex Ferguson hasn't yet set a date for Fletcher's comeback. After Galatasaray, United travel to Liverpool in the Premier League on Sunday and then host Newcastle United in the League Cup next Wednesday. Ferguson h ...

Robin Van Persie has been declared fit for Manchester United's clash with Wigan at Old Trafford today. The striker was substituted during Holland's World Cup qualifier against Hungary in midweek after taking a knee to his thigh but has recovered in time to face the Latics. Shinji Kagawa sat out Japan's clash with Iraq due to a back problem but he is also included in the squad along with Darren Fletcher, who has not played since last November due to a career-threatening chronic bowel condition. Latics boss Roberto Martinez may have to make some enforced changes to his starting line-up against the Red Devils. Jean Beausejour is a doubt with the hamstring injury he sustained against Stoke which forced him to miss out on international duty with Chile while Paraguay defender Antolin Alcaraz has returned to the club with an abductor problem. On-loan Arsenal striker Ryo Miyaichi is now match-fit and could make his first start while midfielder James McArthur has made a full recovery from a niggling back problem.
