Louis Van Gaal must sell Manchester United stars in 2015. Javier Hernandez has dropped a big hint this week that he plans to leave Manchester United at the end of the season in order to sign a permanent deal with Real Madrid. But he’s not the only star name likely to leave Old Trafford in 2015. The coach still has some serious deadwood to shift from his squad. 1. Chris Smalling has failed to develop in the manner most at Manchester United expected he would after signing him from Fulham in 2010. The England international is a superb athlete, but his footballing intelligence is seriously suspect. 2. Ashley Young’s impressive performances in pre-season lulled many Manchester United supporters and Louis Van Gaal into a false sense of security. Young has flattered to deceive since completing his £17 million move from Aston Villa in 2011 and no longer has any business being near Manchester United’s first team. 3. Darren Fletcher, The Red Devils’ vice-captain is a model professional who conducts himself ...
Louis Van Gaal unhappy after Manchester United win Manchester United maintained their unbeaten pre-season record with victory over Valencia on Tuesday evening, but Louis Van Gaal described the performance of his team as the ‘worst’ since he has taken charge. Van Gaal wants improvement Van Gaal presided over Manchester United at Old Trafford for the first time as they faced La Liga opposition once again, having previously overcome Real Madrid in pre-season, but the former Netherlands manager was not impressed. Darren Fletcher opened the scoring with an effort that deflected horribly before Rodrigo Moreno found an equaliser for the visitors. It was not until the final minute that Marouane Fellaini found a winner, and Van Gaal claims there must be much improvement before facing Swansea on the same ground this weekend. "We have won in spite of that we have played our worst game," Van Gaal told MUTV. "We made a lot of wrong choices, wrong passes and we didn't press too much." Reason for optimism Regardless ...

Darren Fletcher is excited at the prospect of a challenging pre-season tour of United States. Following a clash with LA Galaxy, they will take part in the International Champions Cup, in which they will come up against Roma, Inter and Real Madrid. Should they reach the final, Louis Van Gaal's side will take on Manchester City, Liverpool, AC Milan or Olympiakos and Fletcher is looking forward to a tough build-up ahead of the 2014-15 season. "You want to challenge yourself against the best and, although it's pre-season, if you're playing against someone like Real Madrid you are going to be against top-quality opposition, "It's like in training here: when we play in two teams it becomes quite competitive and you'll see the same in these tour matches. "Once you get on that pitch it's competitive and you always want to win every game and every tournament you're involved in. "I'm sure the sports science lads will be saying that it's all about minutes and not getting injured but sometimes these games can get fei ...

Ma frds check on dis. Having spent last summer being linked with a host of talent, who will Manchester United's midfield gain this Summer? Last summer they were linked with the likes of Cesc Fabregas and Ander Herrera but eventually could only seal the arrival of Marouane Fellaini. This season the side as a hole have struggled for form, but a lot of attention has been on that midfield that many feel was not adequately strengthened last year. Tom Cleverley has received criticism throughout his United career, while Michael Carrick isn't getting any younger and Darren Fletcher continues his comeback. With that in mind, here are three possible signings that Manchester United would benefit from: 1: İlkay Gündoğan İlkay Gündoğan has remained a common name when discussing potential summer moves for the upcoming transfer window. Rooney (2010)... The former United boss has revealed that Wayne Rooney cited a 'lack of ambition' for his wanting to leave Manchester United in 2010. "At that meeting, he [Rooney] was hugely sheepish. I felt he’d been programmed in what he was trying to say. The basis of his complaint was that we were not sufficiently ambitious," he wrote in his autobiography. "My response was to ask Wayne: ‘When have we not challenged for the league in the last 20 years? How many European finals have we been to in the last three or four years? "I told him to say we weren’t ambitious was a nonsense. Wayne said that we should have pursued Mesut Ozil, who had joined Real Madrid from Werder Bremen. "My reply was that it was none of his business who we should have gone for. I told him it was his job to play and perform. My job was to pick the correct teams. And so far I had been getting it right." On How Ronaldo Was Sold... The Scot writes: "Madrid paid £80 million in cash for him, and do you know why? It was a way for ...
Those expecting an explosive account of Sir Alex Ferguson's final 14 years at Manchester United may be a tad disappointed with his autobiography. For while it is indeed laced with barbs at former players and opposition managers, most are also tempered with gushing praise. Wayne Rooney and David Beckham are among those lauded and lamented almost in equal measure. But there is space for some revelations in 'My Autobiography'. Here, I pick out four of the most noteworthy in Sir Alex's memoir. Ronaldo forced to stay an extra year to spite Roman Calderon Background: After a momentous 2007-08 season in which he had established himself as the best player on the planet, Ronaldo was publicly courted by Real Madrid. Los Blancos president Roman Calderon was happy to declare to the media that he was making moves to bring Ronaldo to the Bernabeu, while it became apparent that the player himself had a long-standing ambition to move to the Spanish giants. Ferguson, however, was not amused by the public pursuit, famously ...

Barcelona ace may follow Everton star to Manchester United. As David Moyes prepares to embark upon the daunting task of succeeding Sir Alex Ferguson at Manchester United, he seems willing to prioritise the strengthening of his Red Devils midfield. And as such, in addition to a rumoured move for combative Everton star Marouane Fellaini, Moyes is also lining up a shock £25m bid for Barcelona midfielder Cesc Fabregas. The retirement of Paul Scholes and uncertain future of Darren Fletcher have forced Moyes’ hand, and he appears ready to part with substantial cash in order to bolster his midfield ranks this summer. A battle with Chelsea for Real Madrid playmaker Luka Modric could ensue if Barca aren’t tempted to do business, but the Scotsman is believed to be most keen on securing former Arsenal captain Fabregas. Manchester United produce more first- team players for clubs in Europe's top 5 leagues than any other team in England, according to research by Sporting Intelligence. Sir Alex Ferguson's side are ranked fifth in the world behind the likes of Real Madrid and Barcelona, and French clubs Lyon and Rennes. Twenty players who have graduated from the Old Trafford academy have gone on to play in the Premier League, La Liga, Bundesliga, Ligue 1 or Serie 'A', one less than French side Rennes who sit fourth with 21 'primary' academy products. The research deemed a primary youth academy prospect to "belong" to a certain club if they had spent three or more years at the facility between the ages of 15 and 21. For Manchester United, that meant the likes of Ryan Giggs, Paul Scholes, Darren Fletcher, Jonny Evans, Tom Cleverley and Danny Welbeck all count as home-grown players, and the majority are now first-team regulars. Other players to have come through the ranks at Old Trafford, only then to have moved on, include St ...
