Darren Fletcher has taken the Ice Bucket challenge, as he was nominated by Paul Scholes to take the challenge which is in aid of the James McCarthy Foundation. Let's see which player did he nominate.
Paul Scholes insists he is ready to tell it how it is in his new role as a TV pundit. But it seems Class of '92 team-mate Gary Neville is already looking to cool him down, after throwing an Ice Bucket over him. Scholes, who upset Wayne Rooney earlier this summer with his scathing views, joined Neville, Ryan Giggs, Nicky Butt, Phil Neville and a host of other Old Trafford favourites for a charity game against non-league Salford City on Thursday night. Neville threw the Ice Bucket over Scholes as part of a charity cause for the James McCarthy Foundation - not the Everton midfielder, but a young man who suffered a brain tumour in a car accident and wants to complete his 'bucket list' - and the former United midfielder apparently requested that Darren Fletcher be next in line to be soaked. The Former England midfielder will embark on his latest career turn next week as a pundit for BT Sport in their Premier League curtain-raiser between United and Swansea. Speaking to Sam Wallace ahead of the launch of his ne ...

Paul Scholes, Michael Carrick, Darren Fletcher, even Tom Cleverley don't fall over on title deciders. Captain fantastic.
Man United ERRORS: 1. Rooney was unfit, tired and wasteful, therefore shouldn't have played this game at all. 2. Evra can't stop his opponents outside the box at all times, he rather dances around until his opponents maximizes the ball inside his 18 yard box. So I think buttner deserve his place considering his first leg performance. 3. Darren Fletcher is aging and is no longer quick at getting the ball from his opponents, so Cleverly would have done better. 4. Moyes would have immediately told his players to fall back without wasting 10seconds after Evra's goal, because you don't celebrate and forget yourself. 5. They couldn't try the Paul Scholes way by shooting from 25-30 yards but relied more on crosses that no one cared taking. Timikio Enewari Jnr.

Sir Alex Ferguson: "You can't replace players like Paul Scholes. You hope you can get something approaching it, but you’ll never replace Scholes. We're all searching for that. Everybody is searching for the special player who makes the difference to his team. He was an absolute one-off." Manchester United are believed to be in pole position to sign Borussia Dortmund's Ilkay Gundogan now that Barcelona have been placed under a transfer embargo. Manchester United have won 7 & Drawn 1 of last 8 games in which Darren Fletcher appeared. Guardiola willing to sell Toni Kroos to Manchester United only if Adnan Januzaj arrives as part of swap deal. Giggs gives United a glimpse of what life could be like with a top midfielder.. Following the Welshman’s 140th appearance in the European competition, Goal’s Rahul Bali suggests that his performance has sparked hope for United fans... Manchester United needs a creative midfielder. Probably every football fan on earth is aware of that fact. However, after their failure to lure a top name last summer, they ended up with Marouane Fellaini for a whopping £27.5m on deadline day. “He can play higher up, if we need it, behind the striker or as a defensive or holding midfielder. In any position in the middle of the field he's comfortable. “Because of that I think it's definitely a position where people have said we've been short of numbers, with the likes of Paul Scholes [retiring] and Darren Fletcher not ready to come back just now. I felt we needed to strengthen there and I'm glad we got him,” said David Moyes of his former Everton player. To even state that with Scholes retiring, United bought the B ...
Former England midfielder Darren Anderton says United are paying the price for not replacing Paul Scholes last summer. "The first half of the season has been a real struggle for them," said Anderton. "They're not playing well and the players they brought in last summer, such as Marouane Fellaini, haven't worked. "They really need a playmaker, someone like Juan Mata. They haven't replaced Paul Scholes and are really struggling." Sky Sports pundit Tony Gale echoed Anderton's comments and called on Moyes to find a suitable midfield partner for Michael Carrick. "They needed a central midfielder at the start of the season, someone who could play alongside Carrick," he said. "Darren Fletcher has just returned after a long illness but you cannot bank on him being the man that'll take United forward. "They need to bring someone in but it's got to be a quality player, such as Luka Modric, someone who can hold onto the ball in midfield."
Claudio Marchisio "would be very proud" if Manchester United tried to buy him from Juventus Juventus schemer Claudio Marchisio has opened the door to a potential move to Manchester United by admitted he'd be proud to be wanted by the Old Trafford giants. David Moyes, who takes over from the retiring Alex Ferguson as manager next month, is seeking midfield reinforcements this summer following the retirement of Paul Scholes and with severe doubts over the future of illness-hit Darren Fletcher. Italy international Marchisio, currently on Confederations Cup duty in Brazil, is prepared to leave the Serie A champions - his hometown club - after being told he might be allowed to go for around £24million. Marchisio, 27, said: "I've heard that I might not be so valuable to Juve any more. "I've not been told anything by the club or received any offers and I need to speak to Juve to see if I am still an important player for them. "If that's not the case, it will be normal to look at other teams. It is not only down ...

Man United TO COMPLETE Kevin Strootman DEAL Dutch international midfielder Kevin Strootman looks set to become David Moyes' first signing since becoming Manchester United manager. The PSV Eindhoven midfielder will complete a 9 million Euro move to Old Trafford. Strootman is being brought to the club as a possible replacement for Paul Scholes who retired last season, whilst Darren Fletcher continues to suffer with a serious stomach condition and is unlikely to be a regular first team player until mid-season. The 23-year-old former Sparta Rotterdam and Utrecht player has featured regularly for the Dutch side last season, scoring 6 goals in 25 games. Strootman is able to play as a central midfield playmaker or as a defensive midfielder.
Barcelona ace may follow Everton star to Manchester United. As David Moyes prepares to embark upon the daunting task of succeeding Sir Alex Ferguson at Manchester United, he seems willing to prioritise the strengthening of his Red Devils midfield. And as such, in addition to a rumoured move for combative Everton star Marouane Fellaini, Moyes is also lining up a shock £25m bid for Barcelona midfielder Cesc Fabregas. The retirement of Paul Scholes and uncertain future of Darren Fletcher have forced Moyes’ hand, and he appears ready to part with substantial cash in order to bolster his midfield ranks this summer. A battle with Chelsea for Real Madrid playmaker Luka Modric could ensue if Barca aren’t tempted to do business, but the Scotsman is believed to be most keen on securing former Arsenal captain Fabregas. The 26-year-old ex-Gunner would consider a move to the Red Devils, particularly if regular first-team action is guaranteed, but the fact that his former employers have the first option on the tal ...

Manchester United hoping FA Cup drought comes to an end Sir Alex Ferguson has been drilling it home to his Manchester United players that it is time their nine-year FA Cup drought came to an end. After winning the competition four times in 10 years after Ferguson finally ended his United trophy drought by beating Crystal Palace in 1990, the Red Devils have secured it just once since. The 2004 win over Millwall has been followed by disappointing final defeats to Arsenal and Chelsea and two semi-final losses, the most recent against Manchester City in 2011. Of the current squad, only Ryan Giggs, Paul Scholes and Darren Fletcher have winners’ medals, and Ferguson has told his players that statistic needs to change. “The manager has made the point to us that we have not done too well in the last few years,” defender Chris Smalling said ahead of Saturday’s game against West Ham. “We need to make sure we get back on track in the competition. “The league is going well and we’re into the Champions L ...

SIR Alex Ferguson PLEASED WITH THE Manchester United MIDFIELD SIR Alex Ferguson has defended the strength of his midfield department. Manchester United have been eyeing midfielders for two seasons since Paul Scholes announced he was retiring. But the Former England star made a U-turn last season and is still part of what Fergie sees as a six-strong section of the squad. The United boss said: “People say we are short in midfield but I have Michael Carrick, Tom Cleverley, Scholes, Ryan Giggs, Darren Fletcher and Anderson. “So we are not so bad. Carrick and Cleverley were the two against Sunderland last weekend and they did well together.” Fergie can also add the emerging Nick Powell, 18, to that list. But United continue to be linked with midfielders and with Scholes now 38 and Giggs 39, that is hardly surprising. Inter Milan’s Wesley Sneijder was the original target and the Dutch master is currently in dispute with the Italian club. United have also been eyeing German midfielder Mesut Ozil’s situ ...
Sir Alex fears Carrick blow. Sir Alex Ferguson hopes the curse of the hamstring will not rob him of Michael Carrick for the busy Christmas fixture list. The England midfielder left Manchester United’s weekend win over Sunderland at half-time, complaining of a hamstring injury. Fellow midfielders Nani and Anderson are already on the sidelines with the same problem. And centre-half Jonny Evans is the fourth United star to be out currently with an identical injury. It is understood that the United boss took Carrick out of the firing line as a precautionary move, mindful of the busy schedule to come. Carrick has an extra day to recover this week, with United not in action until Sunday’s visit to Swansea. But it is believed to be touch-and-go over whether or not he will be available for the trip to South Wales. Carrick’s potential absence would be less than ideal. Fergie has only three other recognised central midfielders at his disposal – Tom Cleverley, Paul Scholes and Darren Fletcher. Y❼
Manchester United produce more first- team players for clubs in Europe's top 5 leagues than any other team in England, according to research by Sporting Intelligence. Sir Alex Ferguson's side are ranked fifth in the world behind the likes of Real Madrid and Barcelona, and French clubs Lyon and Rennes. Twenty players who have graduated from the Old Trafford academy have gone on to play in the Premier League, La Liga, Bundesliga, Ligue 1 or Serie 'A', one less than French side Rennes who sit fourth with 21 'primary' academy products. The research deemed a primary youth academy prospect to "belong" to a certain club if they had spent three or more years at the facility between the ages of 15 and 21. For Manchester United, that meant the likes of Ryan Giggs, Paul Scholes, Darren Fletcher, Jonny Evans, Tom Cleverley and Danny Welbeck all count as home-grown players, and the majority are now first-team regulars. Other players to have come through the ranks at Old Trafford, only then to have moved on, include St ...
“Cleverley did very well in the derby and deserved his position. We have a lot of options in midfield with Anderson, who is injured at the moment, Darren Fletcher, Paul Scholes and Ryan Giggs. People says we’re weak in midfield but these are very good players. “Sometimes it gives me a problem with selecting the correct two but today (Saturday) was very simple though because Carrick and Cleverley deserved to play after last week.” - SAF on the midfield. Don't forget even Kagawa is in the mix. Who would you like seeing starting week in week out?
SAF: “We’re not really short in midfield. We’ve got Darren Fletcher, Michael Carrick, Ryan Giggs and Paul Scholes. It’s not too bad. I can play Wayne Rooney in there. But I am looking at how I can fill the wide positions as it's a bit of a problem. Welbeck can play wide and is a definite option for me.”
"Alex Ferguson will be without Anderson, Antonio Valencia and Nani through injury. Tom Cleverley is almost certainly out with the calf injury he sustained during the Champions League defeat to Cluj. With Shinji Kagawa also still unfit, Ferg uson has Phil Jones, Ryan Giggs or Paul Scholes to start alongside Michael Carrick and Darren Fletcher. It is a far-from-ideal preparation for United as they seek to avenge the misery inflicted upon them in the league by City last season."

Fletcher the father figure Darren Fletcher is preparing to help Manchester United’s youngsters through what’s bound to be a memorable experience in Istanbul on Tuesday night. At 28, the Scotland captain is far and away the Reds' most experienced player in the 21-man squad Sir Alex Ferguson selected for Tuesday’s Champions League Group H tie against Galatasaray. With United already assured of knockout phase football, the manager left the likes of Wayne Rooney, Ryan Giggs, Paul Scholes, Rio Ferdinand, Patrice Evra and Robin Van Persie in Manchester, opting instead to travel to Turkey with a squad laced with youth. Indeed, of the 21 Reds in Istanbul, only Fletcher, Michael Carrick and Anderson have started more than 20 European games for United. And Fletcher, who made his Reds debut in a Champions League match aged just 19, says he’ll gladly play father figure to the younger lads. “I’m 28 and one of the most senior players in the squad,” he told MUTV. “But it’s a role I’m used to with Sco ...

My area of worry for a long time now has been the back four.Words of Sir Alex.

Ryan Giggs, Paul Scholes, Darren Fletcher and Robin Van Persie are the only current United players who have won the FA Cup.
Tom Cleverley scored his first Manchester United goal as the Red Devils edged out Newcastle to secure a place in the Capital One Cup fourth round. With Wayne Rooney making a successful comeback from his gashed thigh and Darren Fletcher completing the full 90 minutes on his first start since it was revealed he was suffering from a chronic bowel complaint 10 months ago, it was a satisfactory evening for Sir Alex Ferguson's men. - Blog: Rooney's return leads to League Cup win Papiss Cisse did give the hosts a scare when he followed up his first goal of the season by crashing a late overhead kick against the bar. Anderson had put Ferguson's side in front just before the break, and United's youthful defence held on to seal a last-16 berth. Despite recording five successive victories since that disappointing defeat at Everton in their opening game, there still seems to be an obvious deficiency in the red ranks. It is instructive to note that from the United team that lost to Arsenal in the 2005 FA cup final, what is still Arsenal’s last silverware to date, Paul Scholes, Rio Ferdinand, Wayne Rooney, Ryan Giggs and Darren Fletcher are still with the club. How many from Arsenal are left?
Would've taken any two of Beckham, Darren Fletcher, Rio Ferdinand, Ashley Cole or Paul Scholes over Micah Richards and Bellamy though.
Maybe he believes Paul Scholes, Michael Carrick & the return of Darren Fletcher will win us the title.
Darren Fletcher “We won’t ever see another one like Paul Scholes. He is a legend and a real benchmark. He is not interested in the modern-day footballer’s life off the pitch, but he is a world-class player on it”
Q: With seven [six now] games to play, is the squad in good shape for the final title push? Giggs : Definitely. We’ve got plenty of players in good form and we’ve got a good-sized squad now, so the manager can rotate players and keep everybody fresh. We’ve not had the best luck this season – we’ve had injuries to key players such as Nemanja Vidic and Darren Fletcher – and we didn’t have Paul Scholes for the first half of the campaign, so a lot of credit has to go to the lads who have stepped in and done a great job to get us into this position.
