GBAM!!! Rooney named as new Man Utd captain Manchester United have named Wayne Rooney as their new captain. The England international, 28, replaces Nemanja Vidic, who has left the club for Inter Milan, while Darren Fletcher has been named as vice-captain. Rooney will skipper United in the Premier League opener with Swansea at Old Trafford on 16 August. "It is a huge honour and a role I will perform with great pride," said Rooney. "I am very grateful to the manager for the faith he has shown in me." Rooney - confirmed as captain after the 2-1 friendly win over Valencia on Tuesday night - was one of the favourites for the job once Patrice Evra also asked to leave. Wayne Rooney's career at Manchester United August 2004: 18-year-old Rooney signs for Manchester United from Everton in a £27m deal September 2004: Scores his first senior hat-trick on his United debut in a 6-2 victory over Fenerbahce in the Champions League November 2006: Signs a two-year extension to his United contract until 2012 August 2009: S ...
It was always suggested that succeeding Alex Ferguson as Manchester United manager would be the hardest job in football and it proved to be the case for David Moyes at Old Trafford last season. But with the Scot being sacked after guiding United to seventh place, their lowest-ever Premier League finish, Louis Van Gaal has arguably landed the manager's job at the perfect time, with Moyes's failure making it almost impossible for the Dutchman to do any worse. Van Gaal has inherited a rebuilding job at United, but the early signs from the club's pre-season tour of the United States point to a much-improved atmosphere and sense of belief and the former Ajax, Barcelona and Bayern Munich coach appears already to have made the team competitive again. The intensity of the Premier League will quickly test United's progress under Van Gaal and tell the manager whether his new 3-4-1-2 formation will work in England. But players who appeared to have no future at United, such as Ashley Young, Darren Fletcher and Tom Cl ...
Manchester United manager Louis Van Gaal has settled an extended summer storyline by naming Wayne Rooney captain. The announcement, revealed on Man United's official website on Tuesday, came shortly after the Red Devils beat Valencia in their final preseason friendly at Old Trafford. Rooney got the nod over Robin Van Persie and Darren Fletcher to replace Nemanja Vidic, who departed for Inter Milan this summer. Fletcher, who Van Gaal called "a natural leader" was named vice-captain. He will serve as captain when Rooney is unavailable.
Who will be the next Manchester United's captain to replace Nemanja Vidic and Patrice Evra who have left Manchester United? 1. Michael Carrick, 2. Darren Fletcher, 3. Wayne Rooney, 4. Robin Van Persie, 5. or mention by your self. :)
13 Set for Old Trafford Exit In Man United Clear-Out. .Veterans Rio Ferdinand, Patrice Evra, Nemanja Vidic and interim boss Ryan Giggs are set to end their Man United playing careers as incoming boss Louis Van Gaal looks to bring in fresh blood. .Wingers Nani and Ashley Young have steadfastly failed to deliver the goods over the past couple of campaigns and will be looking for new clubs. .Darren Fletcher has looked a shadow of his former self since returning from illness and fellow midfielder Tom Cleverley has, rightly or wrongly, become something of a scapegoat for the shocking campaign David Moyes presided over and both are apparently likely to be offloaded. .Japanese international Shinji Kagawa hasn't come close to the form that made him a much sought after talent at Borussia Dortmund and a move back to the Bundesliga is likely. .Back-up striker Danny Welbeck and Javier Hernandez are seemingly surplus to requirements as is Dutch left-back Alexander Buttner. .Man United are also looking to sell Marouane ...
Ryan Giggs marked his first match in charge of Manchester United by leaving out David Moyes' two major signings for Saturday's clash against Norwich. Giggs was appointed as interim manager on Tuesday following Moyes' sacking just 10 months after the Scot arrived at Old Trafford. And the 40-year-old immediately dropped Spanish midfielder Juan Mata, who cost a club record £37.1 million from Chelsea in January, as one of six changes to the team beaten 2-0 at Everton in Moyes' final game last weekend. Mata was named on the bench at Old Trafford, but there was no place in the matchday squad for Belgian midfielder Fellaini, who has endured a miserable season following his £25 million move from Everton. Fellaini had been on the bench at Goodison Park, but he was missing as Giggs recalled Nemanja Vidic, Rio Ferdinand, Patrice Evra, Antonio Valencia, Tom Cleverley and Danny Welbeck. Mata, Chris Smalling, Alexander Buttner, Jonny Evans, Nani and Darren Fletcher were the players who made way. Vidic, Ferdinand, Cle ...

I think he was still excited that his marking on Mandzukic was so loose during the reply goal 22 seconds later. Vidic also scored his ultimate goal with his trademark heading goal from corner kick in the first leg. They will be missed. thank you Rio Ferdinand, Nemanja Vidic, Patrice Evra and maybe Darren Fletcher, Robin Van Persie and Michael Carrick for awesome campaign in UEFA Champions League. Maybe we can play Europa League next season. I still think Ryan Giggs will play for another 10 years.
MOYES ADDS CLEVERLEY, ZAHA TO Man Utd SALES LIST Tom Cleverley is up for sale at Manchester United. The Daily Mail says United manager David Moyes plans a massive clearout of senior players. He has a list of players he wishes to move out of the club. These include midfielders Anderson, Nani and Wilfried Zaha and defender Alexander Buttner. Moyes will also listen to good offers for Darren Fletcher, Tom Cleverley, Shinji Kagawa and Javier Hernandez. Meanwhile, Nemanja Vidic is leaving for Inter Milan and Moyes expects to lose Patrice Evra to Serie A and Rio Ferdinand and Ryan Giggs to retirement.
David Moyes and Manchester United remain bullish for Olympiakos tie • Manager believes United can win Champions League • Wayne Rooney says strikeforce is working hard in training From David Moyes and his Manchester United players the message is clear: no one is giving up on the Champions League. Wayne Rooney, Darren Fletcher and Nemanja Vidic all echo the manager's bullishness that a fourth European Cup is not beyond United despite the side standing sixth in the Premier League, 11 points from qualifying for next season's contest. To tout themselves as able to win a tournament that includes the holders, Bayern Munich, who are more formidable this year, and the gilded Barcelona team of Lionel Messi, Xavi and Neymar, sounds fantastical. Yet this is a cup competition and Moyes spoke at the weekend of "doing a Liverpool", who triumphed nine years ago as underdogs, while Chelsea in 2012 also somehow pulled off the trick of lifting the trophy when deeply unfancied. United's quest continues in the last 16 at ...
Manchester United have released the list of nominees for the next captaincy role, now that it's confirmed current skipper Nemanja Vidic is to quit the club at the end of the season. It's a common that more senior players like Rio Ferdinand, Patrice Evra and Ryan Giggs are to follow Vidic out of the club come season end. It might seem strange to others that Robin Van Persie is not on that list of nominees. The nominees are Wayne Rooney, Phil Jones, Darren Fletcher, Jonny Evans and David De Gea.. In your own view, who deserves the famous Red Devil arm-band at Old Trafford once Vidic le
Who shall be the next captain of Manchester United? With the news of our captain Nemanja Vidic leaving us in the summers and well as Rio Ferdinand, who do you think should be our next captain? The options picked by the official Man Utd site are: David De Gea, Phil Jones, Jonny Evans, Darren Fletcher & Wayne Rooney. And of course, Wayne Rooney is the favourite as of now. What is your choice?
Manchester United manager David Moyes admits the job of captain is up for grabs when Nemanja Vidic leaves in the summer. The Serbian's exit has already sparked a great deal of discussion regarding his replacement as skipper but the manager has an open mind over the situation. Left-back Patrice Evra remains vice-captain but others will have an opportunity to stake their claim. "Vida will remain as captain until the end of the season," stated Moyes. "When he isn't, it will be Patrice Evra who takes over. When it's not him, it will be Rio Ferdinand or Wayne Rooney or Darren Fletcher. "We need to make sure the person who takes over knows what it means to the club, the responsibilitie s it carries and what is required of you. But I think we have a lot of leaders in the dressing room and they will all stake their claim. "I would say it's up for grabs. We have had two or three different captains due to injuries. I do think what we want is to show leadership qualities, not just on the pitch but off it. I think th ...

Nemanja Vidic has been left fuming over his Manchester United contract snub. United team-mate Darren Fletcher admits he 'lied' to hide his chronic illness.
Manchester United 2 Swansea City 0 Saturday 11 January 2014 Old Trafford | Attendance: 75,035 Manchester United returned to winning ways and avenged last weekend’s FA Cup third round defeat to Swansea City after goals from Antonio Valencia and Danny Welbeck sealed an important 2-0 victory. The Reds started brightly and could have taken an early lead through Nemanja Vidic, who volleyed over from six yards, before the impressive Adnan Januzaj struck the crossbar with a delicious free-kick moments later. With just over half an hour on the clock, a lovely passing move on the edge of Swansea's area led to Darren Fletcher slicing high and wide, before Welbeck dragged another effort wide of goal, missing the first half’s best chance following some neat approach play from Valencia and Rafael. David Moyes didn’t make any changes at the break, though his side returned for the second half with renewed urgency and immediately scored via Valencia, who slotted in at the far post after Shinji Kagawa’s header was ...
THE BIG QUESTIONS FOR David Moyes Are the players responding to Moyes? If the gameplan and instructions from Moyes in the first half were to back off and let Swansea pass them to death, then yes — as a 66 per cent possession statistic for the visitors demonstrated. There was much more urgency — and a couple of goals — after the break so the manager’s half-time team talk clearly worked. Are his senior players past it? Generally, yes. The number of early attacks Swansea launched down United’s left suggests Patrice Evra is viewed as a defensive weakness and this is not the dominant Nemanja Vidic of a couple of years ago. Darren Fletcher and Michael Carrick add stability to United’s midfield but are not the answer to the lack of creativity. Are the fans behind Moyes? ‘The Chosen One’ banner still hangs behind one of the goals at Old Trafford — and there is no sign of it being ironic! The beleaguered manager was also applauded enthusiastically as he walked down the touchline to take his posit ...

Manchester United VS West Ham Team News Manchester United Wayne Rooney should be fit to return from a slight groin problem, while Nemanja Vidic could also be back in contention. Michael Carrick and Robin Van Persie are still out but Darren Fletcher has made two substitute appearances in a week as he builds his fitness following long term illness. A goal and assist from Ashley Young in midweek could see the winger come into contention for a place with Adnan Januzaj. West Ham James Tomkins missed the midweek win over Spurs with an ongoing groin problem but could be back in contention this weekend. West Ham followed up a disappointing display against bottom club Sunderland with a second win of the season at Spurs, leaving Allardyce with some decisions to make. has worried Nemanja Vidic by selling star player Darren Fletcher.
Manchester United manager David Moyes has doubts over defenders Nemanja Vidic and Rio Ferdinand for the meeting with Real Sociedad. Midfielder Tom Cleverley has been struggling with a calf injury and missed training on Tuesday. Striker Danny Welbeck was also absent from United's final training session ahead of the Group A tie. United are boosted by the availability of Belgium-born midfielder Adnan Januzaj, who has been added to the Champions League squad as a home-grown player and could make his debut in the competition against the Spaniards. Moyes said: "He is now available for the Champions League by the way his date of birth works. He's an exciting young player making good progress all the time and he is someone who is going to play a big part in the future of Manchester United. He's an exceptional talent." Centre-back Jonny Evans is likely to start if Ferdinand or Vidic are not available. Midfielder Darren Fletcher, who has been hampered by a chronic bowel condition over the past two seasons, joined t ...
What a player, if, as expected, Ryan Giggs succeeds in making his 1,000th senior appearance this season, he will become only the third outfield player in English football to do so. Tony Ford and Graham Alexander, albeit at a considerably lower level, got there earlier while in Peter Shilton, Ray Clemence, Pat Jennings and David Seaman, the other four are goalkeepers. For Manchester United, Darren Fletcher has been ruled out for the season following surgery on his ongoing bowel condition. Nemanja Vidic is expected to return after suffering a concussion in the club's 2-1 win over Liverpool, while Jonny Evans could return to the squad after suffering a hamstring injury. Despite beating Manchester United 3-2 at Old Trafford in September, Tottenham has not tasted victory over Sir Alex Ferguson's men in 11 Premier League home games - a run stretching back to 2001. The hosts have collected just three points during that barren run. Jermain Defoe (pictured right) is in something of a goal drought, finding the net just once in his last seven ...

Sir Alex Ferguson is confident Man United have the strength in depth to cope with their current injury setbacks ahead of the Manchester derby. Anderson, Nani and Antonio Valencia will all miss Sunday's Etihad Stadium clash through injury while Shinji Kagawa and skipper Nemanja Vidic remain on the sidelines. However, Ferguson is unconcerned by the absentees and is confident in the quality of the players available to him. "I have plenty of experience to bring in. I rested Darren Fletcher against Cluj on Wednesday and just brought him on for the last 10 minutes. "Michael Carrick will be back in. I also have Ashley Young, Wayne Rooney, Robin Van Persie, Danny Welbeck and Javier Hernandez. "That is what big squads allow you to do. You don't have every player every week. Our supporters must recognise that."

Manchester United Team News Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson will be in a state of ambivalence regarding squad selection. Wayne Rooney and Darren Fletcher have both made successful returns to first-team action, completing 77 and 90 minutes respectively in the 2-1 home win over Newcastle United in the League Cup on Wednesday. Rooney had been out for a month with a deep cut to his thigh following a nasty but accidental challenge from Hugo Rodallega in the win over Fulham, while Fletcher had not started for United in 10 months before the Newcastle game due to ulcerative colitis, a chronic bowel condition. Both should be available for the Spurs game, and considering their impact against Newcastle on Wednesday, the duo could be important players for the Red Devils on Saturday. However, it's not all good news for Manchester United, with both Nemanja Vidic and Antonio Valencia ruled out for the foreseeable future (h/t Daily Mail). Vidic has been ruled out for two months having been plagued by complica ...
Darren Fletcher makes his long awaited appearance in a United jersey as the Red Devils edge Galatasaray 1-0 thanks to Michael Carrick’s early goal. Nani with a missed penalty for United, who also escaped early in the fixture when Nemanja Vidic was not penalised for his foul on Umut Bulut.
New signings: Powell.Kagawa.Van Persie.and Nemanja Vidic. And if we're really lucky Darren Fletcher. Game on Manchester City.
The Times runs a transfer window special, spotlighting each Barclays Premier League club. On the Reds, it claims: "In his bid to wrest back the title, Sir Alex Ferguson wants to inject more pace and dynamism into his team. The manager will also hope Nemanja Vidic and Darren Fletcher make full recoveries from injury and illness respectively to bolster his options. Despite the arrival of Shinji Kagawa, who is comfortable in a wide or central attacking position, United require at least one central midfielder. Ferguson is also in the market for a left back and a striker. There is money to spend but it is hard to envisage the club spending more than £25million on a single player, and the wages demanded by the best remain an obstacle. Dimitar Berbatov and Federico Macheda [will be surplus to requirements]. Paul Pogba [is rumoured to be signing] for Juventus, Fabio Da Silva will join QPR on loan and Michael Owen has been released. United would listen to offers for Anderson and JI-sung Park. Elsewhere, plenty of ...
Nemanja Vidic and Darren Fletcher coming back will be like new signings, injecting new life into the team along with actual signings.
Manchester United left-back Patrice Evra has pinpohted the absence of captain and centre-back Nemanja Vidic as the massive reason which cost United the Premier League title. Evra says he was sometimes forced to play centre-back with Michael Carrick in some games. He noted that another notable absentee from the spine of United was Darren Fletcher.
“Because we play for Manchester United, people will say we've had the worst season everBut this is not the truth. This is not the reality. The season we've just finished has been a miracle. “I don't want to try and find excuses, but I think it's a miracle we're still there at the top when you consider the problems we've had. Take Vincent Kompany out of Manchester City for most of the season and I want to see if they are still top of the league. That's what we've had to deal with in Nemanja Vidic. "We've also lost a player like Darren Fletcher and Anderson as well. I had to play at centre-back against Wigan Athletic with Michael Carrick. Those are all facts. Still, after all that, we're nine points better than last season, so we've done well. You have to give credit to City for doing even better.” - Evra , do you agree ?
Considering the injuries to Nemanja Vidic and Darren Fletcher, 89 points and running City step-for-step is a notable achievement.
Congrats Manchester City...Bad luck Manchester United...Preparations for next season are already on..Cant wait for next season.. Man u even after losing Nemanja Vidic, Darren Fletcher and Tom Cleverley for more than half of season, still it was a last day title deciding situation... Hats off to "Red Devils".Once again congo to "NOISY NEIGHBORS"
"What you've got to remember as well is that United will have Nemanja Vidic, Tom Cleverley and, please God, Darren Fletcher back fit for next season." - Roy Keane
Foundations for United's future Every day’s a school day, says the old adage, and this season has been riddled with lessons for every player in Sir Alex Ferguson’s squad. The Reds have been tested throughout the campaign and subjected to unforgiving examinations of resolve, mentality and ability - yet have come through the other side with a wealth of knowledge to tap into. The disappointing concession of an eight-point lead has left United's title defence astride a knife-edge but, however the final round of fixtures pans out, Sir Alex Ferguson's squad has rarely looked so well set for the challenges ahead. Here’s why… Character references Since emerging from the wreckage of Munich, Manchester United has been a club built on its spirit and obstinate refusal to bow to adversity. This season has tested our mettle to its breaking point; heaping injuries galore on top of the usual burden of learning on the job. Nemanja Vidic and Darren Fletcher, first-team fixtures in recent seasons, have made just 10 ...
Come on people i know we blew our 8 point lead but still , this season has been our worst season ever, like going into Europa League after going third in the group stages of CL . Also Losing the Carling and FA Cups to very weak teams . Our leader Nemanja Vidic injured and our midfielder Darren Fletcher 24 so i suggest that we forget this season quickly and sign a few players and get on to the next season...!!
Summer transfet figured it out. CB Nemanja Vidic CM Darren Fletcher
Considering the absence of captain Nemanja Vidic and Darren Fletcher (two of the first names on the team sheet), we've not had a bad season.
2 players I wish we're playing tonight. Nemanja Vidic and Darren Fletcher
United have reported no new injury concerns, so long-term absentees Nemanja Vidic, Darren Fletcher and Anderson are the only players missing
There's speculation that Jonny Evans is a doubt but the only confirmed absentees are Darren Fletcher, Paul Pogba, Anderson and Nemanja Vidic
ManUtd player news: Nemanja Vidic, Anders Lindegaard, Anderson, Darren Fletcher - Injured (will not play Againts MC) Michael Owen - Doubtful
Q: With seven [six now] games to play, is the squad in good shape for the final title push? Giggs : Definitely. We’ve got plenty of players in good form and we’ve got a good-sized squad now, so the manager can rotate players and keep everybody fresh. We’ve not had the best luck this season – we’ve had injuries to key players such as Nemanja Vidic and Darren Fletcher – and we didn’t have Paul Scholes for the first half of the campaign, so a lot of credit has to go to the lads who have stepped in and done a great job to get us into this position.
