Manchester United manager Louis Van Gaal has made midfielder Michael Carrick his new vice-captain Darren Fletcher was given the role as deputy at the start of the season, but the Scot has been restricted to just 49 minutes since the end of August. Carrick, 33, has returned from an ankle injury to start all six games in United's current winning run. "I have three captains," said Van Gaal. "You have a sequence: Wayne Rooney is one, Carrick is two, Fletcher three." Ahead of Saturday's Premier League trip to Aston Villa, Van Gaal highlighted the sense of calm Carrick has brought to the United camp. "He brings a lot of experience but also a lot of composure," said the Dutchman. "He can transfer my philosophy on to the pitch." Carrick operated in the middle of a three-man central defence in the 3-0 win over Liverpool at Old Trafford last weekend. It is a role he is suited to, although Van Gaal does not view Carrick's switch from his preferred central midfield role as permanent. "Now we don't have Daley Blind, w ...

UNDERSTANDING Van Gaal'S 3–5–2 FORMATION. Van Gaal's philosophy to start play from back to front (goalkeeper to attack) is rigid and extremely defined, consisting of four primary layers: 1) The first phase is construction of the attack from defence. Playing out from the back, starting with the goalkeeper. 2) Ball circulation throughout midfield is the secondary layer, enticing defenders out of position and causing disorganisation. 3) Creating chances in the final third having patiently maintained possession of the ball in midfield. 4) Finishing off attacking moves efficiently, with focus on proficient placement of shots. The ball is passed to either of the three central defenders, Chris Smalling, Phil Jones and Jonny Evans, who are ordered to fan out across the full width of the pitch. Ander Herrera (or Tom Cleverley) roams close to the defence in the initial build-up, making himself available for a pass should a centre-back be closed down, while Darren Fletcher (or Michael Carrick/ Fellaine/ Nick Pow ...

Read great Manchester United stories in Indonesian Bahasa! Manchester United berita. Man United could well do with freshening up their midfield and the likes of Darren Fletcher, Michael Carrick, Tom Cleverley and Shinji Kagawa may all be fighting for their futures at the club and as such a move for reinforcements in the area make a great deal of sense. sikpa2. biar David Moyes starts from the bottom. ok lah sik kenak belasah seperti yang dijangka nak? evra's goal was awesome. might be his ultimate goal for Manchester United in UEFA Champions League. I think he was still excited that his marking on Mandzukic was so loose during the reply goal 22 seconds later. Vidic also scored his ultimate goal with his trademark heading goal from corner kick in the first leg. They will be missed. thank you Rio Ferdinand, Nemanja Vidic, Patrice Evra and maybe Darren Fletcher, Robin Van Persie and Michael Carrick for awesome campaign in UEFA Champions League. Maybe we can play europa league next season. I still think Ryan Giggs will play for another 10 years.
Darren Fletcher – 7/10 The Scotsman now seems to have fully recovered from his health issues and return to top form, breaking up developing passages of Bayern play shimmering with danger. How he was overlooked for the oblivious Maraoune Fellaini in the first-leg remains bewildering. Michael Carrick – 5/10 Carrick was once again disappointing on the big European stage, out-played substantially by Toni Kroos and Mario Gotze. Lacks the quick feet to flourish at this high level.
On a day that you are making a little tactical sense all of a sudden you started making nonsense decisions. Why would you change your best players in a match you needed to score before you qualify.First, you substituted Darren Fletcher who by any account performed better than Michael Carrick (tactically unacceptable).Second, you brought Adnan in and substituted Danny Welbeck who was arguably United's best player of the match. He outplayed the Bayern central defence and performed relatively better than Wayne Rooney (Tactical diarrhea). When you know for a fact Rooney was playing with a toe injury, having played for 70mins just substitute him and bring in Chicharito instead of Welbeck. All is gone now although we lost but we bowed out in dignity contrary to the belief that Manchester United is dead. Manchester United will never die and David Moyes will come out clean and lead Manchester United to the promise land.
Manchester United's team for the game against Bayern Munich appears to have leaked, according to the Daily Mirror, with Rio Ferdinand dropped from the side. Chris Smalling takes the place of the veteran defender at centre-back, while Phil Jones is at right-back, and Shinji Kagawa starts in the hole, with Antonio Valencia and Danny Welbeck out wide. There is also a place for Darren Fletcher, who partners Michael Carrick in midfield. The reported team in full: De Gea; Jones, Smalling, Vidic, Evra; Carrick, Fletcher; Valencia, Kagawa, Welbeck; Rooney.
Bayern Munich vs Manchester United: Team News and Injury Updates Manchester United travel to Germany on Wednesday night with the knowledge they need to score at least once to advance to the next stage of the Champions League. United showed they were no pushovers in the 1-1 draw between themselves and Bayern Munich last week, but they will need an even bigger performance to topple the European Champions on their own patch. They will, however, be boosted by the news that Wayne Rooney trained on Tuesday after bruising his toe, with the forward expected to start the game. Marouane Fellaini and Rafael missed the session and both remain doubts for the match, with Robin Van Persie definitely out after picking up an injury against Olympiakos in the last round. In Fellaini's absence, manager David Moyes could opt for Phil Jones in midfield to offer the necessary energy to close Bayern's creative players down, though Darren Fletcher could be in contention to partner Michael Carrick instead. Juan Mata is ineligible ...

That Fletcher story from the Times. What a man! Darren Fletcher just didn’t like the stat. A doctor’s leaftlet outlined the risk of spinal damage if he had an epidural. “It was one in 500,000 or something,” he says. “Massively against. But I recognised the number. It was similar to the ratio of people who suffer ulcerative colitis.” So, he decided to have major bowel surgery without pain relief. Three times. Only when Fletcher takes you through his story does the extreme mental toughness become clear. Only when you hear the gory, life-or-death details of tackling extreme colitis do you appreciate what sufferers go through, what families go through. And how useful that Fletcher takes Scottish matter-of-factness to the nth degree. “Get on with it,” is a stock phrase. “I don’t want any sympathy from anyone,” he asserts. Now he is back on the pitch and in health, at last, after three and a half years of debilitating struggle, the pressure is coming from his twin boys Jack and Tyler, sev ...
More life story revealed by Darren Fletcher... "Sir Alex was honestly more than a manager. He was a different level. I was conscious of contracts. I went to him and said, ‘I’m ill and not playing . . .’ He looked at me like I was mental. He said forget about football. Just get well for your kids and your family. I was listening and he was saying it ... but there’s a football pitch behind him, through his window. And I can see all his trophies and his pictures. I’m thinking, ‘Forget about football?!’” Fletcher revealed. Sir Alex Ferguson and Fletcher agreed, for a while, to hide the condition from teammates. “To avoid, ‘Why’s he playing? He’s ill’. We’d see if the medication worked.” He is blown away by the generosity of colleagues. Michael Carrick’s brother-in-law, a singer, is providing entertainment on Thursday. Carrick, Wayne Rooney and Jonny Evans are auctioning the chance to play golf with them. Other players are auctioning use of Old Trafford boxes. “I didn’t expe ...
Juan Mata earned the praise of his fellow United midfielder Darren Fletcher following an impressive performance against West Ham. Read what Fletch had to say on Mata - and about Michael Carrick playing as a centre-back:
Ma frds check on dis. Having spent last summer being linked with a host of talent, who will Manchester United's midfield gain this Summer? Last summer they were linked with the likes of Cesc Fabregas and Ander Herrera but eventually could only seal the arrival of Marouane Fellaini. This season the side as a hole have struggled for form, but a lot of attention has been on that midfield that many feel was not adequately strengthened last year. Tom Cleverley has received criticism throughout his United career, while Michael Carrick isn't getting any younger and Darren Fletcher continues his comeback. With that in mind, here are three possible signings that Manchester United would benefit from: 1: İlkay Gündoğan İlkay Gündoğan has remained a common name when discussing potential summer moves for the upcoming transfer window. Reds' national service Manchester United’s Darren Fletcher could make his return to the Scotland national side next week after the Reds midfielder earned his first call-up since 2012. Fletcher is in line to play a part in his nation’s match against Poland in Warsaw on Wednesday as he joins as a host of United players involved in international friendlies. With World Cup qualifiers boxed off in November, Scotland’s neighbours England will take on Denmark at Wembley as manager Roy Hodgson aims to give his men valuable playing time ahead of the 2014 showpiece tournament in Brazil. Wayne Rooney, Chris Smalling, Danny Welbeck, Michael Carrick and Tom Cleverley have all been selected to represent the Three Lions, but Phil Jones misses out through injury. Robin Van Persie and Patrice Evra could come up against one another when France take on the Netherlands in what could be an entertaining affair between two former World Cup finalists. Elsewhere, having recovered from wrist and groin injuries, Marouane Fell ...

Huge Selection of Jackets at Low Prices
In their league appearances this season, Tom Cleverley, Michael Carrick, Shinji Kagawa, Marouane Fellaini and Darren Fletcher have not offered a single goal assist between them. Only Carrick and Cleverley have scored a goal. Cesc Fabregas has created 12 goals in 27 appearances at Barcelona, scoring eight times.
Manchester United have a collection of stars on the verge of the final year of their contracts. Despite clear interest of late from Chelsea, Wayne Rooney looks likely to sign a new deal at Old Trafford worth around £300,000 a week, but David Moyes' potential cull of playing staff mean others face uncertain futures. Antonio Valencia may be handed a short-term extension, Darren Fletcher's status depends on his continued comeback from illness, while Michael Carrick may well be overlooked for a deal due to a downturn in form - with one prospect being early retirement. Tom Cleverley has until November to prove he is worthy of a prolonged stay. Despite the fact he'll be 31 by next summer, Per Mertesacker is likely to be offered a new deal by Arsenal if his current form holds. Mathieu Flamini is in the same boat. Mikel Arteta could be moved on, while Thomas Vermaelen and Abou Diaby are almost certain not to be retained, with the Belgian set to be sold this summer. Napoli are interested. Over at Liverpool, club ...
David Moyes needs to rethink Manchester United's simplistic tactics The lack of goals from midfield and the reliance on crosses has left out of campions league spot Steve Sidwell may like to offer Manchester United's midfield finishing classes. The Fulham captain's first-half goal in the 2-2 draw at Old Trafford was Sidwell's sixth in the league to double the total returned by United's starting quartet of Michael Carrick, Darren Fletcher, Ashley Young and Juan Mata. For a journeyman midfielder to single- handedly outscore the champions' engine room two-to-one is the latest damning statistic in this season of ever-deepening woe for United and their manager, David Moyes. Until Carrick gave United a 2-1 lead on Sunday, the 32-year-old had yet to register in the campaign. Mata, who managed 20 goals in all competitions last season, has zero in three league games since joining and did not score for Chelsea in the league either, the same number as Fletcher (who has missed most of the season through illness), whi ...
Moyes made a schoolboy error today! Michael Carrick had to drop to Centre Half for Phil Jones common sense tells me to bring on Darren Fletcher a like for like midfielder but Moysie brings on the Fresh Prince of belair Danny Welbeck and drops Wayne Rooney into a deep defensive midfield role!! Now can someone please explain to me why that was the case??
Juventus star Paul Pogba has revealed he "loved Manchester United" and felt himself "Mancunian" before his bust-up with Sir Alex Ferguson. The Frenchman admits the experience has scarred him. The 20-year-old, who made just seven substitute appearances in two years at United, reveals in a documentary screened in France: “It was a very very difficult moment for me because I was in love with Manchester and I was a Mancunian. “And when I arrived I couldn’t believe my eyes. There was Ferguson - I was loving it. “It was the match against Blackburn on December 2011 at Old Trafford. Paul Scholes had retired, Michael Carrick was injured, Darren Fletcher was injured. “There was no one left to play in midfield. And I was training and I was beginning to get better bit by bit and the coach never stopped telling me ‘you’re this far, you’re this far’. “And I didn’t understand. This far away from what? Playing? From having some playing time? From getting on the field. Or what? “And there was Rafae ...
THE BIG QUESTIONS FOR David Moyes Are the players responding to Moyes? If the gameplan and instructions from Moyes in the first half were to back off and let Swansea pass them to death, then yes — as a 66 per cent possession statistic for the visitors demonstrated. There was much more urgency — and a couple of goals — after the break so the manager’s half-time team talk clearly worked. Are his senior players past it? Generally, yes. The number of early attacks Swansea launched down United’s left suggests Patrice Evra is viewed as a defensive weakness and this is not the dominant Nemanja Vidic of a couple of years ago. Darren Fletcher and Michael Carrick add stability to United’s midfield but are not the answer to the lack of creativity. Are the fans behind Moyes? ‘The Chosen One’ banner still hangs behind one of the goals at Old Trafford — and there is no sign of it being ironic! The beleaguered manager was also applauded enthusiastically as he walked down the touchline to take his posit ...
Former England midfielder Darren Anderton says United are paying the price for not replacing Paul Scholes last summer. "The first half of the season has been a real struggle for them," said Anderton. "They're not playing well and the players they brought in last summer, such as Marouane Fellaini, haven't worked. "They really need a playmaker, someone like Juan Mata. They haven't replaced Paul Scholes and are really struggling." Sky Sports pundit Tony Gale echoed Anderton's comments and called on Moyes to find a suitable midfield partner for Michael Carrick. "They needed a central midfielder at the start of the season, someone who could play alongside Carrick," he said. "Darren Fletcher has just returned after a long illness but you cannot bank on him being the man that'll take United forward. "They need to bring someone in but it's got to be a quality player, such as Luka Modric, someone who can hold onto the ball in midfield."

West Ham James Tomkins missed the midweek win over Spurs with an ongoing groin problem but could be back in contention this weekend. What a player, if, as expected, Ryan Giggs succeeds in making his 1,000th senior appearance this season, he will become only the third outfield player in English football to do so. Chelsea 1-3 Manchester United (Premier Division) Man Utd had their midfield to thank on a hard and bouncy surface at Stamford Bridge as they showed their strikers how to finish. Things did not get off to a good start for Chelsea as experienced midfielder Michael Carrick seized on an error by Ashley Cole to score a well timed close range finish. Chelsea's equaliser came through Hatem Ben Arfa as he seized on Darren Fletcher's mistake to score a deftly executed finish from close range. An error from Chelsea's John Obi Mikel allowed wonderkid Phil Jones to score a real poacher's effort from 10 metres. Winger Wayne Rooney finally rounded off their victory on 77 minutes with a deftly executed finish. Player of the Match: Michael Carrick (Man Utd) Attendance: 41,798

SIR Alex Ferguson PLEASED WITH THE Manchester United MIDFIELD SIR Alex Ferguson has defended the strength of his midfield department. Manchester United have been eyeing midfielders for two seasons since Paul Scholes announced he was retiring. But the Former England star made a U-turn last season and is still part of what Fergie sees as a six-strong section of the squad. The United boss said: “People say we are short in midfield but I have Michael Carrick, Tom Cleverley, Scholes, Ryan Giggs, Darren Fletcher and Anderson. “So we are not so bad. Carrick and Cleverley were the two against Sunderland last weekend and they did well together.” Fergie can also add the emerging Nick Powell, 18, to that list. But United continue to be linked with midfielders and with Scholes now 38 and Giggs 39, that is hardly surprising. Inter Milan’s Wesley Sneijder was the original target and the Dutch master is currently in dispute with the Italian club. United have also been eyeing German midfielder Mesut Ozil’s situ ...
Sir Alex fears Carrick blow. Sir Alex Ferguson hopes the curse of the hamstring will not rob him of Michael Carrick for the busy Christmas fixture list. The England midfielder left Manchester United’s weekend win over Sunderland at half-time, complaining of a hamstring injury. Fellow midfielders Nani and Anderson are already on the sidelines with the same problem. And centre-half Jonny Evans is the fourth United star to be out currently with an identical injury. It is understood that the United boss took Carrick out of the firing line as a precautionary move, mindful of the busy schedule to come. Carrick has an extra day to recover this week, with United not in action until Sunday’s visit to Swansea. But it is believed to be touch-and-go over whether or not he will be available for the trip to South Wales. Carrick’s potential absence would be less than ideal. Fergie has only three other recognised central midfielders at his disposal – Tom Cleverley, Paul Scholes and Darren Fletcher. Y❼
SAF: “We’re not really short in midfield. We’ve got Darren Fletcher, Michael Carrick, Ryan Giggs and Paul Scholes. It’s not too bad. I can play Wayne Rooney in there. But I am looking at how I can fill the wide positions as it's a bit of a problem. Welbeck can play wide and is a definite option for me.”
Sir Alex Ferguson is confident Man United have the strength in depth to cope with their current injury setbacks ahead of the Manchester derby. Anderson, Nani and Antonio Valencia will all miss Sunday's Etihad Stadium clash through injury while Shinji Kagawa and skipper Nemanja Vidic remain on the sidelines. However, Ferguson is unconcerned by the absentees and is confident in the quality of the players available to him. "I have plenty of experience to bring in. I rested Darren Fletcher against Cluj on Wednesday and just brought him on for the last 10 minutes. "Michael Carrick will be back in. I also have Ashley Young, Wayne Rooney, Robin Van Persie, Danny Welbeck and Javier Hernandez. "That is what big squads allow you to do. You don't have every player every week. Our supporters must recognise that."
"Alex Ferguson will be without Anderson, Antonio Valencia and Nani through injury. Tom Cleverley is almost certainly out with the calf injury he sustained during the Champions League defeat to Cluj. With Shinji Kagawa also still unfit, Ferg uson has Phil Jones, Ryan Giggs or Paul Scholes to start alongside Michael Carrick and Darren Fletcher. It is a far-from-ideal preparation for United as they seek to avenge the misery inflicted upon them in the league by City last season."
Tributes to Sir Alex Ferguson: David Beckham: "It's an amazing day for you and Manchester United. I want to say thank you for everything you have done for me. My time at Manchester United was without doubt the best in my career." Eric Cantona: "I think in five years' and ten years' time he will be stronger than today." Michael Carrick: "His record is incredible. To be at this great club for such a length of time is fantastic. Only he has ever done that and I don't think it will ever be done again. He is probably the best manager of all time." Andy Cole: "He represents Manchester United. It is a great honour to have played for him. To be at any club as long as he has has to be classed as phenomenal." Patrice Evra: "They should have done it a long time ago for what he has done for the club and what he has achieved. It is just a privilege to me playing for him and Manchester United." Darren Fletcher: "A statue is thoroughly deserved. He has been a massive influence on the club as it is today." Ryan Giggs: "H ...
Fletcher the father figure Darren Fletcher is preparing to help Manchester United’s youngsters through what’s bound to be a memorable experience in Istanbul on Tuesday night. At 28, the Scotland captain is far and away the Reds' most experienced player in the 21-man squad Sir Alex Ferguson selected for Tuesday’s Champions League Group H tie against Galatasaray. With United already assured of knockout phase football, the manager left the likes of Wayne Rooney, Ryan Giggs, Paul Scholes, Rio Ferdinand, Patrice Evra and Robin Van Persie in Manchester, opting instead to travel to Turkey with a squad laced with youth. Indeed, of the 21 Reds in Istanbul, only Fletcher, Michael Carrick and Anderson have started more than 20 European games for United. And Fletcher, who made his Reds debut in a Champions League match aged just 19, says he’ll gladly play father figure to the younger lads. “I’m 28 and one of the most senior players in the squad,” he told MUTV. “But it’s a role I’m used to with Sco ...
I Think, for example, about the midfield options I’ve got. This is an area where some people say we’re weak but I’ve got Darren Fletcher coming back from illness, Tom Cleverley developing as a player, young Nick Powell improving, Anderson back fit and looking terrific, plus Paul Scholes, Michael Carrick and Ryan Giggs. I’ve got heaps of midfield options now."In the wide positions I’ve got Ashley Young fit again, Nani and Antonio Valencia. Then I’ve got the strikers. My area of worry for a long time now has been the back four.Words of Sir Alex.

Optimus Prime gives United the lead at the break. Sentinel Prime doing fine today with his execution. I can't wait for the comeback of Darren Fletcher. What an influence he'd be alongside Michael Carrick.

Maybe he believes Paul Scholes, Michael Carrick & the return of Darren Fletcher will win us the title.
Manchester United left-back Patrice Evra has pinpohted the absence of captain and centre-back Nemanja Vidic as the massive reason which cost United the Premier League title. Evra says he was sometimes forced to play centre-back with Michael Carrick in some games. He noted that another notable absentee from the spine of United was Darren Fletcher.
“Because we play for Manchester United, people will say we've had the worst season everBut this is not the truth. This is not the reality. The season we've just finished has been a miracle. “I don't want to try and find excuses, but I think it's a miracle we're still there at the top when you consider the problems we've had. Take Vincent Kompany out of Manchester City for most of the season and I want to see if they are still top of the league. That's what we've had to deal with in Nemanja Vidic. "We've also lost a player like Darren Fletcher and Anderson as well. I had to play at centre-back against Wigan Athletic with Michael Carrick. Those are all facts. Still, after all that, we're nine points better than last season, so we've done well. You have to give credit to City for doing even better.” - Evra , do you agree ?
seriously, MOTD pundits actually said Michael Carrick is better than Xabi Alonso, and Darren Fletcher is better than Javier Mascherano
