Ashley Young often sits in the stands when injured. So did Darren Fletcher in his time at MUFC.
FT: Aston Villa 1-1 Man Utd My Verdict So our 6 game winning steak has come to an end but were still unbeaten which is good, Benteke's goal was class but dreadful defending from Evans and I agree Darren Fletcher didn't play great today, Mata didn't have a brilliant game but he played better in the second half, The red card in a way looked unfair but it's the referees decision and that's final, we didn't really create brilliant chances after that, Ashley Young played shocking crosses in the box in the final 10 minutes but one did ball off when Falcao headed in which was a great goal, in which you have to give Ashley Young credit for, apart from that it was a fair draw even though we had 70% of possession most of the game which we didn't take advantage of, Jones had a great game looking solid and all the other lads played alright today, we just have to move to our next game against Newcastle at home on Boxing Day and motivate ourselves for that game and hope for a win and obviously Believe! Ashley Young who was on as a sub for Luke Shaw is off and Darren Fletcher comes on.
The sub being subbed. Ashley Young came on for Luke Shaw and is now being replaced by Darren Fletcher...
Judged by club vice-captain Darren Fletcher, nine of his Red Devils team-mates - including Angel Di Maria, Ander Herrera and Michael Carrick - took part in a three-minute painting challenge where they had to replicate the look of a toy model Russian Aeroflot plane. The 'artistic' trio competed against the efforts of David De Gea, Ashley Young, Anderson, Ben Amos, James Wilson and Jesse Lingard with the nine players all producing mixed results on the canvas. Ander Herrera won the competition ahead of Michael Carrick and Angel Di Maria who came second and third respectively

I dont kno what Ed Woodward and his board are waiting for when its just 6 days to the end of the transfer window. The likes of Chris Smalling,Tom Cleverley,Darren Fletcher,Ashley Young,Fellaini,Jones,,can not take Man Utd near the top four. They really need to strengthen the defence nd midfield with worldclass players.
Ashley Young, Darren Fletcher, Tom Cleverly and Antonio Valencia in midfield for Man United. Just let that sink in.
It was always suggested that succeeding Alex Ferguson as Manchester United manager would be the hardest job in football and it proved to be the case for David Moyes at Old Trafford last season. But with the Scot being sacked after guiding United to seventh place, their lowest-ever Premier League finish, Louis Van Gaal has arguably landed the manager's job at the perfect time, with Moyes's failure making it almost impossible for the Dutchman to do any worse. Van Gaal has inherited a rebuilding job at United, but the early signs from the club's pre-season tour of the United States point to a much-improved atmosphere and sense of belief and the former Ajax, Barcelona and Bayern Munich coach appears already to have made the team competitive again. The intensity of the Premier League will quickly test United's progress under Van Gaal and tell the manager whether his new 3-4-1-2 formation will work in England. But players who appeared to have no future at United, such as Ashley Young, Darren Fletcher and Tom Cl ...
Marouane Fellaini grabbed a last-minute winner as Manchester United warmed up for the Premier League with a 2-1 victory over Valencia. The Belgian, who has had a tough time at Old Trafford since he was signed by David Moyes nearly a year ago, pounced on a defensive mistake in injury time to ensure the Reds finished their pre-season programme unbeaten. Darren Fletcher had put United ahead early in the second half, after Wayne Rooney had missed a penalty before the break. Rodrigo equalised in Valencia’s best spell, but just as the friendly looked to be drifting to a draw, substitute Fellaini pounced for the deciding goal. Louis Van Gaal's first game in charge at Old Trafford saw the Dutchman unveil the 3-5-2 system that served him well so far in pre-season, but although United looked comfortable the game only came to life as a contest when Rooney struck his spot kick against the base of the post having been clipped going for an Ashley Young cross. Fletcher put United ahead with a deflected shot from the ' ...
Substitute Marouane Fellaini scored in second-half stoppage time as Manchester United beat Valencia 2-1 in Manager Louis Van Gaal's first home game in charge of the English Premier League club. Wayne Rooney had a first-half penalty saved in the 32nd minute having earlier been felled by defender Antonio Barragan. United broke the deadlock early in the second half when Darren Fletcher slotted home from the edge of the area after Ashley Young's 49th minute corner. The visitors pressed for an equalizer and were rewarded in the 71st when Rodrigo blazed a first-time volley into the roof of the net following a free-kick. Substitute Pablo Piatti poked a shot wide from close range moments later and the La Liga side were left to rue that miss when Fellaini struck late on.
Manchester United make four substitutions; Tom Cleverley, Michael Keane, Jesse Lingard and Shinji Kagawa come on for Darren Fletcher, Chris Smalling, Ashley Young and Juan Mata.

Manchester United beat Inter 5-3 on penalties after their International Champions Cup clash finished goalless. The Red Devils scored each of their penalties, with captain Darren Fletcher converting the decisive kick after Marco Andreolli rattled his effort off the crossbar. Manager Louis Van Gaal made four changes to the starting XI that played Roma on Saturday, with Anders Lindegaard, Chris Smalling, Fletcher and Ashley Young returning to the line-up. United came close to breaking the deadlock in the 10th minute with defender Phil Jones, he stooped low to direct his header towards the bottom corner of the net but Inter goalkeeper Samir Handanovic got his hand to the ball and denied Jonny Evans on the rebound in a goal-mouth scramble. There were few clear-cut chances throughout the first half, though Wayne Rooney, Juan Mata and Danny Welbeck cut the Italians apart with a thrilling passing move, only for Mata’s low cross to be cut out before it reached Rooney. Wilfried Zaha was the only player in United ...
Player Ratings: Manchester United 0-0 Inter Milan Anders Lindegaard - Didn’t really have any saves to make, but his distribution and first touch was poor in comparison to De Gea’s. 5/10 Phil Jones - Won headers, passed the ball forward well and looked solid. 7/10 Chris Smalling - Tried as the middle centre-back and looked much more comfortable. 7/10 Jonny Evans - Didn’t give the Inter Milan forward line a sniff. Forming an excellent partnership alongside Smalling & Jones. 7/10 Antonio Valencia - Played well as the right-wingback. Ran up and down all day, and put in some decent crosses. 6/10 Darren Fletcher - Bossed the middle of the park which is what you expect from your captain. Scored the winning penalty, too. Man of the Match. 9/10 Ander Herrera - His one touch football was wonderful to watch, and you appreciate just how much ground he covers over ninetey minutes. 8/10 Ashley Young - Did well as the left-wingback. His crossing was on point and he looked threatening. 7/10 Juan Mata - Picked some ...

Louis Van Gaal maintained his unbeaten record as Manchester United boss following a penalty shootout win over Inter Milan in Washington DC. All five United penalty takers found the net in a 5-3 showdown that followed a 0-0 draw after 90 minutes. United only registered one shot on target in the first half, but they upped their game after the break. Substitute Wilfried Zaha, making his first appearance of the tour, was particularly impressive playing as a striker, as was Luke Shaw. Zaha, and Tom Cleverley were unlucky not to be awarded penalties in normal time at the FedEx Field. David De Gea only had one save to make during the match and he watched Marco Andreoli hit the bar from 12 yards, which allowed Darren Fletcher to fire home the winner. Fletcher, Ashley Young, Javier Hernandez, Cleverley and Shinji Kagawa all scored fine penalties. It was a far better performance from 12 yards than the dismal 2-1 shootout defeat to Sunderland in the Capital One Cup semi-final under David Moyes last year. After beati ...
Louis Van Gaal been given 150 million pounds to change around united. Ashley Young, Patrice Evra, Tom Cleverley, Darren Fletcher, Alexander Büttner need to go with nani and anderson gone already. Hopefully being the dutch coach Kevin Strootman might come, hummels, kroo's and Luke Shaw. I think arjen robben is to old. we need to get young players. wouldnt mind seeing cavani and benzema aswell. but all the players dont make a team unless the morale is high and everyone is on the same page with the coach. Having Giggs as a second in charge will be a good thing cause he is very well respected. so hopefully things can turn around. I know it wont be straight away but ill stay by them through thick and thin.
13 Set for Old Trafford Exit In Man United Clear-Out. .Veterans Rio Ferdinand, Patrice Evra, Nemanja Vidic and interim boss Ryan Giggs are set to end their Man United playing careers as incoming boss Louis Van Gaal looks to bring in fresh blood. .Wingers Nani and Ashley Young have steadfastly failed to deliver the goods over the past couple of campaigns and will be looking for new clubs. .Darren Fletcher has looked a shadow of his former self since returning from illness and fellow midfielder Tom Cleverley has, rightly or wrongly, become something of a scapegoat for the shocking campaign David Moyes presided over and both are apparently likely to be offloaded. .Japanese international Shinji Kagawa hasn't come close to the form that made him a much sought after talent at Borussia Dortmund and a move back to the Bundesliga is likely. .Back-up striker Danny Welbeck and Javier Hernandez are seemingly surplus to requirements as is Dutch left-back Alexander Buttner. .Man United are also looking to sell Marouane ...
From GiveMeSport.com: "Shinji Kagawa, Javier Hernandez, Rio Ferdinand, Tom Cleverley, Darren Fletcher and Ashley Young were all linked with moves away from the club during Moyes' time at Old Trafford after falling out of favour during periods of the season. "However all six players may now be given a second chance to show their wealth at Manchester United following Moyes' exit from the club." Spot the quality typo... BUT...good to hear Hernandez, Kagawa and Fletch could/should stay now.

David Moyes needs to rethink Manchester United's simplistic tactics The lack of goals from midfield and the reliance on crosses has left out of campions league spot Steve Sidwell may like to offer Manchester United's midfield finishing classes. The Fulham captain's first-half goal in the 2-2 draw at Old Trafford was Sidwell's sixth in the league to double the total returned by United's starting quartet of Michael Carrick, Darren Fletcher, Ashley Young and Juan Mata. For a journeyman midfielder to single- handedly outscore the champions' engine room two-to-one is the latest damning statistic in this season of ever-deepening woe for United and their manager, David Moyes. Until Carrick gave United a 2-1 lead on Sunday, the 32-year-old had yet to register in the campaign. Mata, who managed 20 goals in all competitions last season, has zero in three league games since joining and did not score for Chelsea in the league either, the same number as Fletcher (who has missed most of the season through illness), whi ...
Manchester United VS West Ham Team News Manchester United Wayne Rooney should be fit to return from a slight groin problem, while Nemanja Vidic could also be back in contention. Michael Carrick and Robin van Persie are still out but Darren Fletcher has made two substitute appearances in a week as he builds his fitness following long term illness. A goal and assist from Ashley Young in midweek could see the winger come into contention for a place with Adnan Januzaj. West Ham James Tomkins missed the midweek win over Spurs with an ongoing groin problem but could be back in contention this weekend. West Ham followed up a disappointing display against bottom club Sunderland with a second win of the season at Spurs, leaving Allardyce with some decisions to make. Modibo Maiga will lead the line once again having made a real impact from the bench to score the winner in midweek. Man Utd @ Fulham. [Fulham - Manchester United Preview: Visitors looking to add to six-game unbeaten run against the Cottagers] Fulham manager Martin Jol will be without Simon Davies (knee), Kerim Frei (groin) and Mahamadou Diarra (knee) for the clash with the league leaders at Craven Cottage. Kieran Richardson also remains a doubt with a calf injury and star man Dimitar Berbatov will miss the game against his former club after picking up a slight hamstring tear during the win against West Ham. The club's two January transfer window loan signings, Urby Emanuelson and Emmanuel Frimpong, could also be involved at some stage from the substitutes bench. Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson will be missing Darren Fletcher, who is out until the end of the season with illness, while Ashley Young (knee) and Jonny Evans (hamstring) are also both doubtful to make the trip to Craven Cottage. Fulham's 3-1 win against West Ham was their first in eight league outings. The hosts have picked up eight points from their ...
Sir Alex Ferguson is confident Man United have the strength in depth to cope with their current injury setbacks ahead of the Manchester derby. Anderson, Nani and Antonio Valencia will all miss Sunday's Etihad Stadium clash through injury while Shinji Kagawa and skipper Nemanja Vidic remain on the sidelines. However, Ferguson is unconcerned by the absentees and is confident in the quality of the players available to him. "I have plenty of experience to bring in. I rested Darren Fletcher against Cluj on Wednesday and just brought him on for the last 10 minutes. "Michael Carrick will be back in. I also have Ashley Young, Wayne Rooney, Robin van Persie, Danny Welbeck and Javier Hernandez. "That is what big squads allow you to do. You don't have every player every week. Our supporters must recognise that."

Goals from Jonny Evans (64') Darren Fletcher (68') and Chicharito (72') After a tough first half and conceding the opening goal from QPR's Jamie Mackie (52') United subbed out Paul Scholes for Chicharito and Ashley Young for Anderson. These substitutions really helped United step up their game and they took to the QPR defense, getting into space and having the chances that led to the two goals off of corners, and finally the great goal from Super Sub: Chicharito that put this game to bed! Glory Glory Man United!
Ashley Young and Darren Fletcher watchin United away againts city last season
I Think, for example, about the midfield options I’ve got. This is an area where some people say we’re weak but I’ve got Darren Fletcher coming back from illness, Tom Cleverley developing as a player, young Nick Powell improving, Anderson back fit and looking terrific, plus Paul Scholes, Michael Carrick and Ryan Giggs. I’ve got heaps of midfield options now."In the wide positions I’ve got Ashley Young fit again, Nani and Antonio Valencia. Then I’ve got the strikers. My area of worry for a long time now has been the back four.Words of Sir Alex.

Manchester United Team News Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson will be in a state of ambivalence regarding squad selection. Wayne Rooney and Darren Fletcher have both made successful returns to first-team action, completing 77 and 90 minutes respectively in the 2-1 home win over Newcastle United in the League Cup on Wednesday. Rooney had been out for a month with a deep cut to his thigh following a nasty but accidental challenge from Hugo Rodallega in the win over Fulham, while Fletcher had not started for United in 10 months before the Newcastle game due to ulcerative colitis, a chronic bowel condition. Both should be available for the Spurs game, and considering their impact against Newcastle on Wednesday, the duo could be important players for the Red Devils on Saturday. However, it's not all good news for Manchester United, with both Nemanja Vidic and Antonio Valencia ruled out for the foreseeable future (h/t Daily Mail). Vidic has been ruled out for two months having been plagued by complica ...
