Define irony??? 2014 was a banner year for "faith based" films. The highest grossing of them all. "Noah", directed by a known atheist, Academy Award-nominee Darren Aronofsky, brought in over $320,000,000 worldwide at the box office. This was more than "Son of God", "Heaven is Real" and "God is Not Dead" combined. TIMES TWO! And the irony continues that "Noah" was the least favored of all faith-based films, amongst Christians, for two main reasons... 1.) It's atheist director and 2.) Because the atheist director made a fictional film based on a fictional story from a fictional book and it was tweaked and "taken out of historical context". Another almost-forgotten fact about Noah is that 1 month prior to the film's release, to appease the offended Christians, Paramount Pictures had planned to reshoot, reedit, and do more post-production to make the film align with the story from the bible. Then they did an about-face on May 7th, one week before the film's release, and decided to just put a disclaimer on the ...

Godzilla vs Noah and for me Godzilla wins without a doubt! I had great hopes for Noah as Darren Aronofsky's previous films, Black Swan and The Wrestler were terrific outings. Unfortunately Noah was ponderous at times with unnecessary elements added to the story to make it more "exciting".Small bits of Noah were almost mystical a la Terence Malick but they weren't well integrated with the rest of the film.Perhaps the big budget made Aronofsky compromise?? Godzilla on the other hand was seamless and flowed perfectly with no overload of the monsters presence or fight scenes.Gareth Edwards' previous film "Monsters" was a breath of fresh air for the genre. In Godzilla some times the monster activity is in the background with relevant human character activity to the fore. Godzilla is at times a guest in his own movie and that strategy works[ I am thinking of last years Superman where the battle scene was interminable and numbing and finally boring.] Even Godzilla's opening scenes with titles were awesome. Oh wh ...
New from visionary Director Darren Aronofsky comes "Noah," starring Russell Crowe. The film is inspired by the epic story of courage, sacrifice, and hope, and is an exercise in humane filmmaking, as no live animals were used during production. For the making of this film, Aronofsky -- a recipient of The HSUS's Humane Filmmaker Award -- opted to use all computer-generated imagery to create the animals on Noah's Ark, instead of using captive exotics. As public concern for captive animals grows, The HSUS applauds the filmmakers behind "Noah" for using new technology to tell this legendary story.

Here is the final mix down of my final project for Audio Production for Visual Media I last quarter. It is a scene from Darren Aronofsky's first full feature film, PI. I recorded and synthesized all of the sounds myself in addition to Cohen's ADR. Jennilee Easter Park was gracious enough to lend me her voice in the beginning. Thank you to Dik Shopteau, Michael Brown, Joe Sadowski, Austin Sprynczynatyk and everyone else for the help and input. Enjoy!
Woody Allen, Noah Screenwriter Explain Omitting Black Actors "Race was not a consideration" for both filmmakers, whose new projects feature all-white casts. Last year was a historic one for diversity in Hollywood, but not every filmmaker believes in adding color to their casts. Two high profile projects — the Biblical epic Noah and Woody Allen's Broadway adapation of his cinema hit Bullets Over Broadway — garnered some unwanted attention lately when it was pointed out that neither cast contains a single actor of color. Noah, a fantastical reimagining of the story of Noah's ark, fails to include any non-white humans despite the diversity of its animal kingdom. Screenwriter Ari Handel, who wrote the script with Director Darren Aronofsky, responded to the criticism on TheHighCalling.org by saying, “From the beginning, we were concerned about casting, the issue of race. What we realized is that this story is functioning at the level of myth, and as a mythical story, the race of the individuals doesn’t ...
"In its third weekend, Noah once again took a dive at the domestic box office. Darren Aronofsky's Biblical epic plummeted 56 percent to $7.45 million, which brings its 17-day total to $84.9 million. If it continues on this trajectory, it could fall short of $100 million." - Box Office Mojo

Alex von Tunzelmann: Russell Crowe tries to add depth to Darren Aronofsky's flood blockbuster, but it's sunk by preposterous embellishment
Jon Stewart defends Darren Aronofsky's midrashic interpretation of 'Noah' with Haters of the Lost Ark
Darren Aronofsky's Noah premiered to a flood of negative nellies, naysaying about the gritty manner in which their favorite Biblical character was handled. "There wasn't enough God! Why was Noah drunk?" some complained. Thank goodness for Jon Stewart and The Daily Show, who actually picked up a Bibl...
Conservatives have long been angry that today's godless liberals in Hollywood couldn't be bothered with making movies from the Bible, noted Jon Stewart in Tuesday night's Daily Show. Well, Hollywood is now coming out with some big-budget Biblical epics — notably Darren Aronofsky's successful n...
HAPPILY EVER AFTER: Conservative critics say the Darren Aronofsky film [Noah] took too many liberties with the biblical tale, and one Fox News guest complained the movie “is not a documentary.” “So you’re telling me that a man who lives to 950 and loads two of every animal onto a 300-cubit-long boat – and by the way, a cubit is from (elbow to fingertips) – 300 of these bad boys, yeah, that’s really going to keep the lions away from the delicious zebras,” [Jon] Stewart said. “Listen, you’re telling me that film won’t qualify to submit in the documentary category? That’s outrageous.” He said critics who complained the movie did not refer once to God apparently had not have seen it. “That is weird, because if there’s no God in the movie, who’s telling him to build the boat, to go all ‘Waterworld’/’We Bought A Zoo’ on everyone? His dog?” he said. A pundit pointed out that the film uses the word, “creator,” while the Bible uses the word, “God.” “Creator? That ...
"Noah" – The Bible Meets The Lorax April 7, 2014 By Don Feder In "Noah," the environmentalist fable, we learn that bad people (descendants of Cain) build cities, eat meat and make weapons. (They probably belong to an Antediluvian NRA.) They also engage in strip mining, in the process turning the earth into a barren wasteland that looks like Afghanistan without the amenities. The good people are vegans who live in tents, don't make much of anything, and are few in number, probably because they practice family planning. One of many unanswered questions of "Noah" the movie: If the good people (descendants of Seth) don't eat meat, where did they get the animal skins they wear? Presumably, these are the pelts of critters who committed suicide after contemplating mankind's speciesism. Darren Aronofsky's $130-million anti-biblical epic has almost nothing to do with the Bible's account of the flood. There is an ark, animals marching in two by two, a deluge of Biblical proportions, and a man called Noah. That's ...
