okay. so for the last few days iv been trying to put into words how I feel as we remember Dan Wheldon who lost his life in the final race of the Indycar season on this date last year in Las Vegas. But to fully understand We must look at what happened on May 29th 2011. Myself, John Newton, and Anthony Halloran sitting in between turns 3 and 4 watching the 100th anniversary of the Indy 500 watching as teams split strategy and with 10 to go nobody had a clue who was going to win. Dan's late pitstop came on the screen infront of us and John looks and us and says "that might be the move that wins the race." To my race-fan family on FB - remembering a year ago today: Jim and I took the boys to Indy to watch Nascar practice. I had special passes to a hospitality area where we met one of the nicest ambassadors of the sport - that year's Indy 500 winner, Dan Wheldon. Nicholas shook his hand and told him "I'm a race driver too." Dan asked him about his racing and told him to please wait awhile before driving professional. He said he had two little boys to support and didn't need Nicholas winning all the races, to which Nicholas responded with his great smile! Remembering Dan today and how happy he made one little boy. Gone too soon.

Well, IDK if any of you have heard, but there is a BIG race weekend coming up in Indianapolis this weekend. 4 races, lots of practices, tons of concerts.And do you know what has been in the Indianapolis Star newspaper. NOTHING!!! For a month before the Indpls 500 (IndyCar) there were "special" sections talking about the owners, the drivers, the cars, the tires, the trophy, and unfortunately, too many wonderful articles about the late Dan Wheldon. Am I the only person in Indy that would have appreciated all that information about NASCAR?? Exactly why am I paying to have 20 pages of nothing delivered to my doorstep every morning?? So Carter will have a crossword puzzle to do??? A major, 1 million person city, and our daily "newspaper" is 20 pages big and NOTHING on what's happening this weekend?!? FRUSTRATED.

I got news that Dan Wheldon was invoveld in a bad crash. I thought the internet was joking until I began to get message after message after message. I never knew about him until 2008. After watching him go to work, do his thing, and drive the wheels off of his cars. He became my hero. I never felt as though I had someone I could really look up to. Someone of such class, such calm, such respect. I wanted to be where he is, that is where my goal in life was. My hero, the one I've looked up to for the final 4 years of my openwheel career, he's gone. I was in awe and extremely proud when he won the Indy 500 knowing he was the man to do it, to lay back and take it at the last opportunity...and just earlier today, I was proud to say he was my hero and should race atleast 1 cup race, and now he's gone. Fly high fly high, I'll miss that smile on camera, but atleast I'll know you'll be smiling and watching down on every one of those drivers. We'll miss you Dan Wheldon.
