Are Damien Hirst’s dot paintings (not done by his own hands) art or very expensive wallpaper? I often think the art world mirrors the Pop Music world, where the mediocre sits alongside true talent, put on a pedestal by the money sharks behind both worlds (no pun intended) knowing very well that the majority will buy into it (pun intended) I don’t think artists like Damien Hirst, Tracey Emin etc should be confused with amazingly, genuinely talented artists like Grayson Perry, David Hockney etc. I think the film ‘Exit through the gift shop’ is some kind of statement by Banksy, its almost like a modern remake of the ‘The Rebel’ starring Tony Hancock 1961, for those who have not seen it I am not referring to Banksy as the successful chancer, I would put Banksy in the genuinely talented category, he has a lot of mimics but he was the real deal. Those who have seen it will know who I am referring to. Andy Warhol once said “art is anything you can get away with” He should know. For the record, an ...
Every cloud has a silver lining: if folk with more money than sense didn't exist, people like Damien Hirst & Tracey Emin would be unemployed

With its Damien Hirst vitrines, Tracey Emin camping vignettes, and Sarah Lucas found-object tableaux, this landmark show was like one giant Barneys window. This realization brought me no satisfaction: “If art is morphing into display, then what the *** are we window dressers supposed to plonk into our constantly changing vignettes?” I asked myself as I gazed at Jake and Dinos Chapman’s defiled window mannequins. I felt like a professional hooker who is no longer sure what to wear because all the regular respectable ladies are now dressing like *** ― Simon Doonan
Just been working, with BBC1 Pointless on in the background. My ear was caught by the final category, "Contemporary artists", which was then refined into Young British Artists of 1997 (are you listening Sharyn?). The contestants - who had themselves chosen this category - came up with David Hockney, Damien Hirst and Banksy. Now, the point of Pointless is to find an answer that the majority of the audience don't know or don't guess. However, every single artist was "pointless", apart from Hirst who scored only five points, and Tracey Emin who scored a little more, apparently. The others were: Chris Ofili, Gavin Turk, Gillian Wearing, Marc Quinn, Mark Wallinger, Michael Landy, Rachel Whiteread, Sarah Lucas, Sam Taylor-Wood. All totally pointless, because nobody in the audience had heard of them. How about a visit to Tate Modern, folks?
David Hockney new exhibition - great stuff, great artist, unlike Tracey Emin, Damien Hirst via
Controversial Artists I am looking for writers to write a short 150 word article on the art of Tracey Emin and Damien Hirst as to why their art is either good or awful or if it should even be expressed as works of art. Tracey Emin and Damien Hirst both gain a lot of critics attention for the ‘art’ they create and many people have strong opinions about how amazing or how awful their work is and I want to hear your opinions. Deadline for these articles will be Monday 28th at 8pm. Please email me if you would like to write an article they would be much appreciated ☺ Happy writing!

Jonathan Jones: Watch out Tracey Emin and Damien Hirst: Jasper Johns, Robert Rauschenberg and Roy Lichtenstein are coming to galleries in the UK and their ideas are bold and breathtakingly original
I read that the "Femme a la fenetre (Marie-Therese)," a portrait of Picasso’s lover, had recently sold for $41.5 million. Looking at this painting, you would never guess that it is supposed to be a representation of Picasso’s 17 year-old lover. The thing that he painted looks like it could be an ancestor of Edward Scissorhands except that the entire distorted figure, not just the hands, looks like something a woman who had been exposed to depleted uranium might give birth to. Yet we are made to feel stupid if we don’t see the “genius” of this and other works of Picasso. Who is kidding whom? For well over one hundred years, the art world has been making fools out of us with the promotion of bizarre art, like Vincent Van Gogh’s nightmarish drawings, the drip paintings of Jackson *** the quirky “ready-mades” of Marcel Duchamp, and Pablo Picasso’s cross-eyed cartoons. Not to mention the strange and meaningless contributions of Damien Hirst or the perverse works of Tracey Emin. Years ago ...
they're not worse in style but Tracey Emin and Damien Hirst are way more interesting
It used to be that artists were always trying to cover up their optical effects and techniques that they used to create works of art that looked life like. After a while, artists realized that they had bamboozled the collectors, and now the collectors had formed a barometer which was unrealistically high. The art world recouped and spent several decades roasting and making a spoof of the right wing. Whether it be buying off types like Damien Hirst, the English tourist, or Jeff Koons, the bar fly from Lancaster, they paid off as many blabbermouths as they could. Tracey Emin even got a royal seal of approval by Queen Elizabeth who obviously was afraid she’d taunt her, and allowed Lucien Freud to paint a non-traditional/ugly portrait of her like a good sport. Now, we are entering into what in the 20th century was Cubism, but today we are looking more closely at the veil of illusion itself. Physics has evolved from atoms to leptons, quarks and wave theory. Today, illusion is a part of wave theory and ...

I see The Guardian have given Damien Hirst 1 star for his latest work, finally waking up to this superficial artist. Tracey Emin next I hope
"I had dared to say what many of my colleagues secretly think: Con Art, the so-called Conceptual Art movement, is little more than a money-spinning con, rather like the emperor’s new clothes. That goes for the ‘artist’ Carl Andre who sold a stack of bricks for £2,297. It goes for Marcel Duchamp, whose old ‘urinal’ was bought by the Tate for $500,000 (about £300,000). It goes for Tracey Emin’s grubby old bed. And, of course, it goes for Damien Hirst." -Famed art critic Julian Spalding
attacks: From pissing in Duchamp's 'Fountain' to defacing a Rothko Matilda Battersby Monday 08 October 2012 The person who wandered into Tate Modern and brazenly scrawled on a Rothko at the weekend committed a totally unoriginal form of art protest. More creative defacements of valuable artworks (not that I'm recommending that anyone do this) range from peeing in Marcel Duchamp's "Fountain" (which is a urinal) to vigorously kissing a Cy Twombly canvas while wearing red lipstick. But whether you're jumping on Tracey Emin's unmade bed or graffiti-ing "Occupy" on a Damien Hirst sculpture, the causes of such "protest" will remain in the public consciousness for about as long as it takes to make the bed again or wipe the marker pen off. Natural human clumsiness has claimed several far more dramatic (and eye-wateringly expensive) victims. Take a minute to think of the man who vomited on a Mondrian and another who put his elbow through a Picasso. Here we round-up some of the most dramatic acts of art vandalism, ...
